Back in 1995, director David Fincher and screenwriter Andrew Kevin Walker (The Wolfman) collaborated on what is now touted as a “crime classic” and “a blueprint for modern serial killer movies.” That movie was Se7en, and I totally agree with all the praise that’s been heaped upon it (it recently featured in our “Horror Plus” series).
Now, 14 years later, Fincher and Walker are going to be collaborating once more, this time on an adaptation of the novel The Reincarnation of Peter Proud for Columbia. THR’s Heat Vision Blog reports the news of their involvement, along with producer Michael De Luca (Blade, Ghost Rider). The author of the book, Max Ehrlich, adapted it into a movie in 1975 of the same name, so I guess in a way this movie is a remake by Fincher (there’s that “remake or new adaptation” question again). According to THR:

Director Joe Johnston has expressed an interest in returning to the Jurassic Park franchise to create a new trilogy of dinosaur adventures.
Earlier this year, producer Frank Marshall said a fourth movie was a long shot, following reservations about another film after the death of Michael Crichton in 2008.
But Johnston - whose Jurassic Park 3 is widely regarded as the weakest in the series - said he would be prepared to revive the prehistoric predators once more.
He told Ain't It Cool News: "There is a great story for the fourth one that I would be interested in getting involved with and it's nothing like the first three. It sort of takes the franchise off in a completely different direction, which is the only way I would want to get involved."
One early script for Jurassic Park 4 included genetically-modified raptors trained as mercenaries, while another report suggested the fourth film »

Two new posters for Joe Johnston’s old-school horror, The Wolfman, have surfaced online, over at Cinematical and AICN.The AICN one, a very shadowy glimpse at Benicio Del Toro’s eponymous furball, is wonderful: moody and gloriously evocative of the atmosphere that Johnston is trying to evoke. The Cinematical one, which looks like someone’s taken the bit from the movie where Emily Blunt’s heroine is trying to avoid the attentions of the dastardly lycanthrope and fiddled around with it in Photoshop, is less impressive, although it still suggests the film’s sinister and noir-ish mood. But don’t just take our word for it. Check out the posters below noooooooooooooow!Click the image above for the hi-res version on Cinematical.comClick the image above for the hi-res version on AintItCoolNews.com »

I'll be honest and admit that only within the past month did I have the exquisite joy of finally seeing David Fincher's film Se7en for the first time. It was just one of those embarrassing films that I hadn't ever taken the time to see. But having been blown away by it, my excitement is now off the charts as THR's Heat Vision reports that the trio (director, writer, producer) behind the twisted serial killer thriller is reuniting for an adaptation of Max Ehrlich's novel The Reincarnation of Peter Proud. Fincher will be directing from a script by Andrew Kevin Walker (of The Wolfman recently) and producing with Michael De Luca again. Back in 1975 Ehrlich wrote an adaptation of his own book with J. Lee Thompson directing Michael Sarrazin and Margot Kidder in the film. The story centers on a college professor who begins having recurring dreams and nightmares and, »

The makers of Seven are teaming to reincarnate The Reincarnation Of Peter Proud for Columbia. THR's Heath Vision Blog reports that David Fincher is attached to direct the new adaptation of the Max Ehrlich novel, which will be penned by Andrew Kevin Walker (The Wolfman). Proud centers on a college professor who begins having recurring dreams and nightmares and, realizing they are images of a past life, decides to search out the source of the visions. With his girlfriend in tow, he discovers a woman and her grown-up daughter who are keys to his past life. The supernatural thriller drew heat for a subplot involving incest. Fincher will produce with Michael De Luca. Fincher and Walker respectively directed and wrote the 1995 thriller "Seven" for New Line when De Luca was its president of production. »

Can two former collaborators once again create the movie magic where a film builds to a point of having Brad Pitt cry, “What’s in the box?! What’s in the fucking box?!” I think “Seven” is a highly entertaining film but what will director David Fincher and screenwriter Andrew Kevin Walker create 15 years later? It looks like we’re going to find out. The two have re-teamed to adapt the supernatural thriller “The Reincarnation of Peter Proud”. Hit the jump for more details.
According to Heat Vision, David Fincher is attached to direct the new adaptation of the Max Ehrlich novel, “The Reincarnation of Peter Proud” which will be penned by Andrew Kevin Walker. Fincher will produce with Michael De Luca. De Luca is also part of the reunion as he was the president of production over at New Line when Fincher and Walker made “Seven”.

Jurassic Park IV? Don't count it out yet, I guess.
Director Joe Johnston, brought in by Universal to take over The Wolfman from Mark Romanek, helmed the third and least appealing Jurassic Park about a decade ago, and he tells Ain't It Cool News he would consider answering the bell again. Unless I missed something this year, the producers of the trilogy have not warmed to the idea yet, so this could be hypothetical.
"There is a great story for the fourth one that I would be interested in getting involved with, and it’s nothing like the first three," Johnston says. "It sort of takes the franchise off in a completely different direction, which is the only way I would want to get involved.” »

Harry Knowles at Ain’t It Cool News put up an interview from a while back on the set of The Wolfman with director Joe Johnston. In the interview they discussed a bunch of his previous works and a bit about Jurassic Park 4 for which he is attached to helm.
This was before it was announced that Johnston would be directing The First Avenger: Captain America so unfortunately, that topic does not come up.
In the interview, the topic of special effects (the right mix of practical and digital) came up and Johnston gave the example of the first Jurassic Park and how it still holds up today as something special in that regard. Shortly thereafter, Harry brought the conversation back to Jurassic Park to ask some questions about the widely speculated fourth installment of the franchise. Joe Johnston of course, directed Jurassic Park 3.

Joe Johnston is currently prepping for the release of The Wolfman which is due out early next year. He was responsible for the direction in the 3rd Jurassic Park movie and AICN caught up with him to talk about his new movie but drifted onto talking about Jurassic Park 4.
“There is a great story for the fourth one that I would be interested in getting involved with and it’s nothing like the first three,” Johnston told the site, “It sort of takes the franchise off in a completely different direction, which is the only way I would want to get involved.”
He added that it likely won’t be another storyline about a group of people struggling to survive a dinosaur attack. “We’ve done that and it’s been done three times…”

If only I could start this article with the Jurassic Park theme song. (If you.d actually like to, click here to take a listen.) In an interview with AICN, The Wolfman director Joe Johnston, also the director of Jurassic Park 3, talks about the potential fourth film. After chatting about how well the effects from the first film hold up, AICN asks Johnston if JP4 is next on his to-do list. He says .Well, there is a great story for the fourth one that I would be interested in getting involved with, and it.s nothing like the first three. It sort of takes the franchise off in a completely different direction, which is the only way I would want to get involved.. The most logical way to take the franchise in a new direction? Keep people off that damn island, of course. .Why would anybody go back to »

Sometime last year, director Joe Johnson caught up with AICN on the set of his upcoming remake of The Wolfman and chatted with them about the possibilities of Jurassic Park IV. Here's what the maestro had to say:There is a great story for the fourth one that I would be interested in getting involved with and it's nothing like the first three. It sort of takes the franchise off in a completely different direction, which is the only way I would want to get involved.
When asked if they would be going back to an island setting, Joe scoffed, saying:We've done that and it's been done three times. Why would anybody go back to that island? It was hard enough to figure out the second and third reason for them to go, but it would take it off in a whole other trilogy basically, but when it gets to that »

What to do about The Wolfman? Originally, this was a fantastic idea. Universal was going all the way back to its vaults and reintroducing the monster movies of the 1930s, most of which have stood the test of time. You had Rick Baker doing make-up effects (the created the Oscar in that category for his work on An American Werewolf in London, still unsurpassed), and Mark Romanek (One Hour Photo) lined up to direct Benicio Del Toro, Anthony Hopkins, Emily Blunt, and Hugo Weaving.
Romanek left and was replaced by Joe Johnston (Jurrasic Park III) and then there were grumblings that the visual effects were so bad a fair percentage of them had to be redone. The movie went from April to November to the following February, and that's where we are now: A re-tooled bit of classic monster madness opening on Valentine's Day, already carrying more than its share of dashed expectations. »

Speaking to AICN about his forthcoming film The Wolfman, director Joe Johnson also talked about his other pending projects, including the long-rumored fourth installment of 'Jurassic Park'.
"Well, there is a great story for the fourth one that I would be interested in getting involved with and it's nothing like the first three," Johnson told the site. "It sort of takes the franchise off in a completely different direction, which is the only way I would want to get involved."
Johnson added that if he comes on board, he would want to make an entire new 'Jurassic Park' trilogy. And the films would not revolve around people heading back to the island.
"Why would anybody go back to that island? It was hard enough to figure out the second and third reason for them to go. But it would take it off in a whole other trilogy basically. »

Universal has debuted two posters for The Wolfman featuring stars Benicio Del Toro and Emily Blunt. They look excellent are part of a solid marketing campaign that has deftly redirected the public’s perception after rumors of unrest during the production.
The first with Blunt came out earlier today from Cinematical with promises of a second soon after. I was hoping the second would fit into the same forest scene, but show the Wolfman stalking his prey. However, the second from AICN is just a close up of the lead who could use a razor.
Not pictured, obviously, are Anthony Hopkins and Hugo Weaving, but it’s possible we might see a poster for each of them as well. Also, if you’re wondering why I used Benicio Del Toro’s first name in the headline, it’s because we’re on a first name basis. We’d almost have to be, »

Inspired by the classic 1940's feature, Universal Pictures' The Wolfman brings the myth of a cursed man back to its iconic origins February 12, 2010. Set in the late 1880's, the film keeps the plotline of the original classic, following 'Lawrence Talbot' (Benicio del Toro) reuniting with his estranged father (Anthony Hopkins) following the disappearance of his brother. The film then details events during Lawrence's past that led to his conflict with his father as he hunts for a murderer, which turns out to be a werewolf.
