I can’t remember why, I’ve slept since then, but, in January of 2000, I found myself sitting in front of a blank Word document. I had an idea in my head of what I wanted to do, and, now, 10 years later, I’m still working strong at it. I began keeping a sort of diary, listing the days and months and putting down the films I saw in the theater into it. I don’t remember why I only included movies I saw in the theater. I could have started just as an idea-giver on how many movies I actually saw each year (I also kept a running count each year). It began on January 7th, 2000, when I entered Bicentennial Man as my first film in this long and ever-growing endeavor.

There have been several recent films looking back on the African genocide, including The Last King of Scotland and Hotel Rwanda. In spite of the knowledge of the events, the entire region hasn’t received the kind of support and help that it deserves. For most people in the developed world, the searing films that the genocides “inspired” seem to be the only witness of the events. Now comes Shake Hands With the Devil, which is based on a book by General Romeo Dallaire about how his request for more aide before the 1994 Rwandan genocide went unanswered by the United Nations. The film is being directed by Roger Spottiswoode (The 6th Day, Tomorrow Never Dies) and stars Roy Dupuis in the role of General Dallaire. The sixth day of the 11th Mumbai Film Festival (Mff) saw business kicking off at Mami's Film Business Centre with Enlighten Film Society acquiring the home video rights of Antichrist. This year Mff introduced the Film Business Centre as a first step towards setting up a full-fledged Film Market. Moviegoers came back for a second helping of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, but the new items on the menu, Surrogates and Fame, didn't fly. That led to a weekend that was off seven percent from the same timeframe last year when Eagle Eye landed. Standing as the only broadly appealing movie among recent releases, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs dissipated by a mere 19 percent, generating an estimated $24.6 million and lifting its total to a solid $60 million in ten days. Its drop was less than such comparable titles as Open Season, Meet the Robinsons and Chicken Little, though it may have a steeper decline in its third weekend, when the Toy Story double feature will claim much of its 3D attention. We haven’t seen the Bruce Willis we truly love for about two years. Sure, his bearded actor role in Barry Levinson’s What Just Happened? may have made us laugh, but that kind of Willis isn’t the same as the weapon-wearing one who seems to be the reason for a particular scene’s smashed car or crashing helicopter. In fact, the last time we saw anything that resembled action Bruce, was Live Free or Die Hard. We’d have to go way back to 2007 to re-familiarize ourselves – and subsequently, bask in that movie’s Bruno brilliance.
But, as both Bob Dylan and the trailer for Willis’ latest will tell us, “the times are a’changin’.” So we don’t have just any old kind of Bruce Willis in this preview for The Surrogates – we’ve got sometimes bald, sometimes blonde haired Bruce Willis. Perusing a world of semi-robotic actual secondary human beings!

Sylvester Stallone recently revealed that Forest Whitaker was forced to leave his "The Expendables" film due to a scheduling conflict. Then Stallone announced that he will be replacing Whitaker with rapper/actor 50 Cent, adding that he can bring out the best out of him. Apparently Stallone has been paying close attention to the reaction of fans, since he is now announcing that he changed his mind about 50 Cent and will instead cast a fan-favorite Terry Crews (Get Smart, Idiocracy, The 6th Day). [via AICN] Stallone has been trying to cast every tough guy out there, having a cast already comprised of Stallone, Randy Couture, Jet Li, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Eric Roberts, Mickey Rourke and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Crews is no wimp. The man is over 6 feet 2 inches tall, benches about 475lbs and is a former NFL linebacker.

'Law & Order: UK' begins run with 6.4m

ITV1's new crime drama Law & Order: UK made a reasonable start last night, overnight ratings figures suggest. The series - an adaptation of the long-running Us show starring Bradley Walsh - drew a strong 6.37m (26.3%) in the 9pm slot. The audience was down on the impressive 7.55m (30%) for Whitechapel in the same slot last Monday, however. Law & Order's closest rival was BBC One's Who Do You Think You Are? with 5.65m (23.3%) in the hour. Season three of Heroes resumed on BBC Two with 2.22m (9%), then BBC Three's transmission of the next episode took 782k (6.4%) at 10.30pm. Over on Five at 9pm, sci-fi action thriller The 6th Day averaged 878k (4.7%), while Channel 4 had 930k (3.9%) for The Real Casino Boy, a documentary focusing on the crimes of millionaire John Aspinall.
