The M/C Review: Amenebar's 'Agora' lovely but thin

One of the big stories in the last few weeks has been the way "Agora" opened in Spain to tremendous box-office although it couldn't find an American distributor after spending much of the year playing various festivals, including Toronto, which is where I saw it. Alejandro Amenábar is a great filmmaker who doesn't always make great movies.  He's got incredible technical control, he is ambitious, and he always seems determined to engage his audience both emotionally and intellectually.
