At this year’s Grammys, Jon Batiste made history by winning Album of the Year for “We Are,” along with four other awards. But “We Are” still lost its genre category, Best R&b Album, to Jazmine Sullivan’s “Heaux Tales.” Winning Album of the Year despite losing in your genre is not a new thing — it happened last year too — as well as in two other times this century. The first was Arcade Fire at the 2010 Grammys. But what about “Babel,” which many might consider Mumford and Sons’ signature record and experienced the same unusual split?
While they might seem a bit forgotten these days, Mumford and Sons had huge success at the start of the 2010s. The band’s debut album, “Sigh No More,” was a sleeper hit, slowly gaining momentum and showing up on the year-end Billboard 200 albums chart for four years in a row (2010-2013). The...

Filmmaker Stella Hopkins has opened up on directing her husband, multiple Oscar-winning veteran actor Anthony Hopkins, in the film "Elyse". The debutant director says she found it easy because they mutually respected each other's position within the film unit.
"He respected my position and I respected his, although I recognised that I was working with a man who clearly has 55 years' worth of acting experience from which to draw," Stella said, according to a femalefirst.co.uk report.
There were differences of opinions, of course, and she gives an instance. "For the therapy scene he said, 'I'd like to sit a little bit back in the dark but, at a certain point, when I really need to get her present, I'll lean forward'. I objected, and said, 'It's going to be too dark, and you're going to be in the background!' But it was his choice, and he was right,...

Elyse Bridges lives in a glamorous house in Los Angeles, with her husband and son, where she spends most of her days lost in thought. But despite an idyllic opening shot set in a postcard suburban setting, something isn’t right in Stella Hopkins’ directorial debut, “Elyse.”
The black-and-white independent movie stars Lisa Pepper in the role of the film’s title character. Anthony Hopkins, the director’s husband, plays a psychiatrist. The rest of the cast of mostly unknowns are newcomers, who Stella cast because she believes one of the purposes of independent film is to shine a spotlight on emerging talent.

For her directorial debut, Stella Hopkins zeroed in on a pretty impressive star: her own husband, Oscar winner Sir Anthony Hopkins. That casting only seems fitting for something as close to her heart as “Elyse,” a drama that the Colombian filmmaker said was inspired by her own family life.
Per the film’s official synopsis: “The drama follows the titular character (Lisa Pepper) who, in a psychotic blackout, commits vehicular manslaughter of her son and his nanny. Memory and hallucination intertwine to expose a history of trauma, revealing the truth: Elyse is catatonic and institutionalized in a State Hospital. Her recovery is reliant on the dissolution of her marriage, the restoration of the relationship with her mother, and a mutual absolution with the nanny’s daughter, Carmen. It’s the care from Dr. Lewis (Anthony Hopkins) and the unconditional love from her nurse, David, that promise Elyse a new life.

Slipstream wasn’t the greatest movie ever and it certainly didn’t help to cement the careers of the stars that took part in it, but it was kind of a testament to the fact that Mark Hamill has been a part of the acting game no matter that it appeared he kind of fell off the map after a while. He’s been around doing his own thing for years and yet Star Wars and his role as the voice of Joker and a few other appearances are what he’s been remembered for. It’s important to note that while a lot of

The veteran pair duel hypnotically in a mystery thriller whose occasional silliness is masked by storytelling gusto
This mystery thriller is outrageous and irresistible, an old-fashioned drama with dashes of Patricia Highsmith, Patrick Hamilton, John le Carré and maybe Elizabeth Jane Howard’s memoir Slipstream. It features delicious performances by Helen Mirren and Ian McKellen – I don’t think McKellen has had such a juicy role since his turn in the 1998 drama Apt Pupil – and the film has such storytelling gusto that you’ll overlook bits of implausible silliness involving smartphone-type “handsets” with which large financial sums can supposedly be transferred from one bank account to another.
The director is Bill Condon, and it’s adapted by screenwriter Jeffrey Hatcher from the bestselling 2016 novel by first-time author Nicholas Searle who caused a flurry of his own by announcing that he was “not allowed to say more about his career than...

Veteran U.S film producer Gary Kurtz, producer of movies including Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back and America Graffiti, has died in London aged 78.
Kurtz passed away yesterday, Sunday September 23, after a year-long battle with cancer.
Starting as an assistant director on Montel Hellman’s western Ride in the Whirlwind, starring Jack Nicholson, he also worked on Voyage to the Prehistoric Planet and Dennis Hopper’s Queen of Blood. After military service, he was an associate picture on Chandler and Two-Lane Backdrop before meeting George Lucas in 1971. He co-produced American Graffiti, before making a deal with 20th Century Fox to produce Star Wars; he set up the second unit and directed many pick ups, including most of the cockpit dog fight scenes, as well as the special effects.
The UK-based Kurtz then worked on Empire Strikes Back, his last collaboration with Lucas. He helped to direct alongside Irvin Kershner.

Hollywood has lost one of the pioneers who helped bring Star Wars to the big screen. Longtime producer Gary Kurtz passed away on Sunday after a battle with cancer. The news was confirmed by Kurtz's official Facebook page.
“Gary Kurtz was considered by many as a pioneer in the film industry and a master of the art of filmmaking,” the Facebook post reads. “He found any opportunity to share his expansive knowledge of the film industry with budding filmmakers and those seeking knowledge. He was a real humanitarian and a gentleman; some have said that he is one of the gentlest souls in the film profession, modest and humble, and a very unique man.”

Get ready to rollout in an all new way with a new Transformers Tcg. Wizards of the Coast have revealed more details on the game along with how to snag an early look at Sdcc. come inside to learn more!
Despite not having played one in a Long time, I love trading card/collectible card games. In my younger days I played a bunch of them (from Star Wars to Lord of the Rings and Magic), but time and friends to play with has seen me on the sidelines for a number of years. With my kiddos getting older, however, it might be time to dive back in with this cool looking Transformers card game.

We certainly felt the power of 10 former Gladiators yesterday, as we took a look at what some of the stars went on to after the success of ITV's '90s hit.
We were bowled over to discover that Blaze (Eunice Huthart) is a stunt double to A-listers and godmother to Angelina Jolie's daughter Shiloh, and that Rhino (Mark Smith) went on to star in Hollywood films including Ben Affleck's Oscar-winning drama Argo.
But whatever happened to the villainous Wolf or the infamous Shadow, who was dramatically sacked from the series? We haven't found many current pictures of this lot, but here's a little bit about what 9 more of our favourite former Gladiators got up to after their time on the show:
1. Scorpio (Nikki Diamond)

It must be equal parts exhilarating and exhausting for an actor to become associated with a single film role. For Mark Hamill, that part will always be the heroic Luke Skywalker from Star Wars. The film series was an enormous success for Hamill, then a young hopeful who at that point had only appeared on television and performed voice roles. Life after the space opera wasn’t as easy as he’d hoped — at least professionally. Hamill tried to avoid being typecast, which led to some bizarre roles in his attempt to sidestep his squeaky-clean image. However, Hamill never seemed to stray too far from the science fiction universe. There were plenty of antagonist parts to counterbalance the naive character he played, including a part in 1989’s Slipstream...

Bill Paxton is certainly no stranger to the science-fiction genre. His friendship with James Cameron resulted in roles in movies like Aliens and The Terminator, but he was also in Weird Science, Slipstream and Predator 2. And now he.s close to adding yet another bit of sci-fi to his resume. Variety reports that Paxton is in talks to join the upcoming sci-fi action film All You Need Is Kill, co-starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt. The story, which is based on a graphic novel by Hiroshi Sakurazaka, tells the story of a solider (Cruise) who is forced to keep reliving the last day of his life over and over again after he is killed in a war against an alien race. Much like how Bill Murray became a better person in Groundhog Day, the solider uses these time loops to train and become a better soldier. Should he accept...

Star Wars' lead Mark Hamill is to headline a cross-platform adaptation of the comicbook series New-Gen Universe, including a theatrical feature release.
A.P.N.G. Enterprises' comic centres on a future society in another dimension, where the societal harmony between humans, 'strange creatures' and robots is torn apart by a battle over nanotechnology between two super-powered scientists. Gabriel, one of the feuding scientists, consigns Deadalus (the other) to the 'Underworld' and sends his infant twin children to Earth, where they are destined to be separated and only learn later of their identity. The children and other creatures develop "NanoPowers" in the Association for the Protection of the New Generation (A.P.N.G.), and are destined to war against Deadalus after his transformation into the evil Sly, a tyrant with the power to transform worlds.
Sounds like the most epic project Mark Hamill will have undertaken since Return Of The Jedi...

Gary Kurtz is a revered filmmaker among genre afficionados, having produced Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back. The fact that Kurtz chose not to work on the succeeding lesser Star Wars films helped create the perception that he was an almost mythic totem that, once lost, caused the blockbuster saga to spin helplessly out of control. The perception isn't entirely correct, however, since Kurtz's presence on Return to Oz or the 1989 Mark Hamill starrer Slipstream did little to elevate those misbegotten movies. But perhaps Kurtz has learned from his mistakes, since he's now producing a modestly budgeted (20 million dollar) film that combines the war and horror genres -- Panzer 88. More after...

To celebrate the 30th birthday of The Empire Strikes Back this coming Friday, Ryan finds out what happened next for those involved...
How about this for making some of us feel old? The Empire Strikes Back got its maiden cinema release on May 21st 1980. That, at the time of this article going live, is tomorrow. Tomorrow, one of the finest science fiction blockbusters of all time is going to be 30.
It's testament to the many strengths of the movie that it's still talked about so frequently three decades on, and many, of course, rate it as the finest Star Wars movie of the lot. But what happened to those who worked on it, in front of and behind the camera? We decided to celebrate the film's birthday by finding out...

How about this for making some of us feel old? The Empire Strikes Back got its maiden cinema release on May 21st 1980. That, at the time of this article going live, is tomorrow. Tomorrow, one of the finest science fiction blockbusters of all time is going to be 30.

Hey, kids, remember Mark Hamill from “Star Wars”? Just as long as you don't have a problem with giant, malleable testicles being a prominent part of the story.
The Last Winter - Larry Fessenden's 2006 eco-thriller has some of the cheesiest special...
