Movie blogger tired of covering ‘Thor’ movie because it’s “so gay”

15 December 2009 8:36 AM, PST | ReelLoop.com | See recent Reel Loop news »

For Berry Mzuscan, movies are something to cherish, to debate and to sometimes bemoan. A “superhero wing-ding fanboy,” Mzuscan has been an admirer of spandex-clad heroes since he could barely walk, so when news of a big-screen adaptation of Thor came out of Marvel Studios in 2008, Mzuscan should have been excited, but he wasn’t. Not even close.

“[expletive], Thor. I can’t think of a worse superhero to make a movie of than that guy,” says Mzuscan on his blog, Mzuscansmiddrif.ca. “A Norse god as a hero? Seems a little easy. According to Wikipedia, Thor ‘relies upon periodic consumption of the Golden Apples of Idunn to sustain his lifespan.’ It doesn’t get any gayer than that.”

Thor will be directed by Kenneth Branagh. It stars Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Kat Dennings and Chris Hemsworth as Thor. Production on the feature is slated to begin in January with an »

Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 2 Episode 7 (Preview) - Legacy of Terror

19 November 2009 1:44 AM, PST | BuzzFocus.com | See recent BuzzFocus.com news »

Here's an all new clip from Star Wars: The Clone Wars featuring Jedi Master Luminara Unduli in pursuit of Poggle the Lesser. In Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 2 Episode 7, "Legacy of Terror," Luminara disappears while tracking the Geonosian warlord. Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker lead a platoon of clone troopers in search of her. Following her trail, the heroes descend deep into the lair of the grotesque Geonosian queen – Karina the Great – where they discover that the hive is alive and teeming with undead defenders. [jambovideo id="163950" /] Luminara is voiced by Olivia d’Abo, perhaps best known for her role as Kevin Arnold’s older sister in TV’s The Wonder Years. d’Abo boasts a career that has included such iconic genre properties as Conan the Destroyer, Green Lantern: First Flight and Ultimate Avengers. “Luminara is a Jedi, so she’s always going to have that ability to focus and »

First details and images of Luke Goss and Sarah Douglas from Witchville

14 November 2009 4:53 PM, PST | QuietEarth.us | See recent QuietEarth news »

We've been sitting on this for a while now, but since the cat is ever so slowly climbing out of the bag on Pearry Reginald Teo's top secret Witchville projct, we feel inclined to start sharing some of what little info is out there right now.

First off, Witchville is indeed the fantasy project that Teo was filming in China back in August. We've tracked down a detailed synopsis for you, as well as two pretty random images that were snapped of Luke Goss on a monitor and Sarah Douglas on set in full eagle headdress. Having grown up watching Douglas in V, Conan the Destroyer and Superman, I think it's pretty apropos casting on Teo's part.

Synopsis:

When Prince Malachy returns to his father's kingdom after the Crusades his first impression is that a bad harvest is the reason that the villagers are sick and hungry. But his »

Dolph Lundgren ponders role in mythical Conan reboot

10 November 2009 12:20 PM, PST | ReelLoop.com | See recent Reel Loop news »

Dolph Lundgren is cool. I don’t care how many direct-to-dvd movies he does a month, Lundgren is a complete bad-ass. So much of a bad-ass in fact that Lundgren might show up in the highly-rumored Conan reboot.

“I’ve talked to the producers about doing something for Conan,’” Lundgren said. “It’s too early,” he said, stating that he wouldn’t know anything certain until “probably next year.”

The updated Conan will directed by Marcus Nispel for Lionsgate. The reboot is expected to more faithful to Robert E. Howard’s Conan the Barbarian than the Arnold Schwarzenegger films were.

Lundgren will be seen in Sylvester Stallone’s action-ensemble pic, The Expendables, where the 52-year-old will play a Swedish sniper named Gunnar Jensen. The film is expected to be released on August 20th.

Conan the Barbarian was released in 1982 from director John Milius. Milius later went to direct Red Dawn. »

The defeated champion Nikolai Valuev needs a new career. Surely he was born to be a Bond villain

Forget David and Goliath. For most movie fans watching the heavyweight title fight between David Haye and Nikolai Valuev on Saturday night, the first mythical conflict to spring to mind was Rocky and Drago. Not since the 1985 showdown between Sylvester "Adrieeennnne!" Stallone and Dolph "pretty boy" Lundgren, have we seen such a mismatch of plucky western underdog and eastern bloc fighting machine. Admittedly, you have to make some allowances. Like the fact that Haye is British, not American. And Valuev's training routine probably didn't involve working out in a top secret muscle lab while Soviet technicians monitored his readouts, but he was praised by Vladimir Putin as a "national hero", so there's at least a frisson of cold war tension. Nor could you mistake him for a male model like Lundgren. But with his hulking 7ft 2in, »

Conan Reboot Cast Descriptions Leaked Online

27 October 2009 12:42 PM, PDT | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

The casting characters list for director Marcus Nispel's (Pathfinder) live-action reboot of the Conan franchise has been leaked online at MovieHole.net, and it appears the producers are not necessarily looking for a "name" actor to fill the sweaty boots of the Cimmerian barbarian created by Robert E. Howard.

Below are the descriptions for the lead protagonists. The complete list also has cast descriptions for the lead antagonist, "Khalar Singh" (a warlord seeking the blood of a queen to "bring life to the demonic minions of Acheron"), "Young Conan," and multiple "Pict Savages." Warning: The descriptions give quite a bit of information about the movie's plot, so if you don't like spoilers, read at your own risk!

[ Conan ] He's in his 20s to early 30s, Caucasian, powerfully built, broad-shouldered, sun browned skin lined with scars. Piercing blue eyes and square-cut black mane, tall. He is a savage killer that has »

Red Sonja remake 'will start filming next year'

16 June 2009 11:59 AM, PDT | The Geek Files | See recent The Geek Files news »

Last year a new movie adaptation of Red Sonja was announced, with plans to film it in 2008 and release it sometime this year, as the date on promotional posters indicated.

Sin City director Robert Rodriguez was to produce the project, which will star his fiancee Rose McGowan as the so-called 'she-devil with a sword'.

McGowan is best known from the TV series Charmed and the Rodriguez/Tarantino double feature Grindhouse.

After the remake was announced, all went quiet.

But now executive producer Joe Gatta has explained what is happening with this project and when we can expect to see it hit the big screen.

Gatta said the movie had been delayed and the intention is to film Red Sonja in 2010. The aim is to release it late that same year.

Gatta, who's also producing the Conan remake, told Empire magazine: "Because of certain issues and the economy, we had to change our plan a bit. »
