Three days after losing the love of her life, Joyce Lapinsky posted thanks to Richard Lewis’ many fans, and offered a thought about how they might remember him.
“This is Joyce, Richard’s wife,” Lapinsky wrote on her husband’s X page. “Thank you for your loving tributes. He would be beyond thrilled and so touched, as am I. In response to the many queries , I know Richard would appreciate donations in his memory to the Los Angeles based charity http://comedygivesback.com or the charity of your choice.”
Comedy Gives Back describes itself as “a nonprofit created to help comedians when they are in need,” which works at creating a safety net for that community.

This article contains spoilers for The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live episode 1 and The Last of Us episode 3.
There’s no dating in the apocalypse … at least not for the first few years. It’s all raw survival, never-ending panic, and flashes of joy and ingenuity that keep humanity going just enough to persevere. At least that’s what all the end-of-the-world tales tell us.
In recent years, stories like Station Eleven and The Last of Us have depicted various permutations of disrepair that society might fall into after a deadly global pandemic. When a large portion of the population is just gone and every day is a fight to stay alive, standards and realities change. Instead of meeting by the bar, two lovers might meet staging a coup against a rogue government agency, falling into a booby trap, or perhaps even during a delivery of infant formula to a prison gate.

The 2023 film on Netflix titled Monday First Screening does have some very endearing actors to tell the story of how love is a decision, and one has to decide to choose love at the end of the day. The film does so in a very charming manner, but it does drag along the way. But this is a film about a love that must be chosen when one is nearing their autumn years, and for that kind of storytelling, the pace of the film did seem to work. There are some genuinely heartfelt scenes in the film that make the movie work like a short story, with the message that finding love is possible at any age. The actors do their job pretty well, but the writing falters a bit, making the scenes a bit more melodramatic than they need to be. But Monday First Screening portrays the problems of...

Hulu’s adaptation of Charmaine Wilkerson’s debut, “Black Cake,” delves into the intricate roots of a mysterious family tree. It skillfully navigates the journey of a family unraveling the complex and often tragic past of their mother, Eleanor Bennett, following her demise.
Eleanor (portrayed by Chipo Chung) passes away in Southern California, leaving behind a history unknown to her family, including her estranged daughter Benny (played by Adrienne Warren from “The Woman King”) and ambitious son Byron (Bashy from “Top Boy”). Eleanor’s will discloses an audio recording filled with long-buried secrets. Benny and Byron, not on the best of terms, discover a note instructing them to share a small black cake in the freezer when the time is right.
The series draws its name from a Caribbean dessert, reflecting its own intricate history. Like the tale told in “Black Cake,” this dessert, soaked in rum and laden with fruits,...

Jon M. Chu's 2018 romantic comedy "Crazy Rich Asians" -- based on the novel by Kevin Kwan -- was a massive, massive hit. Made for only $30 million, Chu's lightweight puffball grossed $239 million worldwide. It follows the adventures of a young economics professor named Rachel Chu (Constance Wu) who has been enjoying her romantic relationship with the dash-handsome Nick Young (Henry Golding). Nick is called back to his home country of Singapore to attend a wedding, and Rachel is reluctantly invited along. Reluctantly, because Nick has been trying to keep his vast wealth hidden from Rachel. It seems his family is practically royalty in Singapore, inviting new conversations about honesty and their inescapable class divide into their relationship. Also, Nick's family doesn't necessarily approve of a middle-class woman dating one of their own, and some of them accuse Rachel of being a golddigger.

It's hard to believe that the Orphan Black franchise is staging a comeback almost seven years after its series finale.
Thankfully, it looks like Orphan Black: Echoes will fit into the franchise very well.
Krysten Ritter is known for delivering stellar performances, and we should expect more of the same in the AMC, AMC+, and BBC America sequel series, set to air in 2024.
The promo was unveiled during New York Comic Con on Thursday and showcases Ritter as Lucy, a young woman caught up in what we can only describe as a nightmare.

"It follows a group of women as they weave their way into each other's lives and embark on a thrilling journey, unravelling the mystery of their identity and uncovering a wrenching story of love and betrayal.

AMC Networks has released the first trailer for Orphan Black: Echoes, an original series set in the Orphan Black universe, starring and executive produced by Krysten Ritter. The teaser was released Thursday at New York Comic Con. The series debuts on AMC, AMC+ and BBC America in 2024.
“What’s wrong with me?” asks Krysten Ritter’s Lucy in the opening scene of the trailer. ” Why don’t I know who I am?” A disoriented Lucy is told she’s “been through a procedure.” We’re not exactly sure what that is, but it’s not good.

Over six years after the finale of “Orphan Black,” AMC has returned with a first look at the upcoming spin-off “Orphan Black: Echoes.” The teaser was released as New York Comic Con enters its first day on Thursday.
The teaser shows Krysten Ritter as a dazed Lucy asking a woman, “What’s wrong with me? Why don’t I know who I am?”
As the teaser cycles between futuristic scenes of a large city, versions of Lucy emerging from pink test tubes and past and present iterations of the character cycling through various settings, Lucy’s monologue changes. “I have to face them. We have to figure out who we are,” she says by the trailer’s end.
Set in the same universe as the cult favorite Canadian sci-fi-thriller, “Orphan Black: Echoes” follows a group of women as they become enmeshed in each other’s lives. Along the way, they...

Even amid the concurrent strikes of the past year, there’s been a lot of bonus hand-wringing over the state of the independent producer. Producers, after all, have no SAG or WGA equivalent. Where then does the workaday, blue-collar movie producer find community support? Or work with peers to advance their collective interests?
Well… linking up with a good Artist Development cohort is a great place to star. Which is why we’re thrilled to announce seven new Fellows representing six new projects to kick off the 2023 edition (and 23rd overall!) of the Film Independent Producing Lab.

One of the best reasons to watch "The Twilight Zone" even 60 years later is that you get to see just how much each episode had an effect on pop culture. Half the episodes will make you go, "Oh, so that's what that 'Simpsons' Treehouse of Horror sketch was making fun of," or "Oh, so that's where that 'Black Mirror' episode got that idea from." Although not all of these episodes were original themselves, they still brought the source material they were based on to a national audience. Not only did the show start off with a large viewership, but constant re-runs have helped the series stay relevant for years afterward. The result is that this show constantly turns out to be a source of inspiration for so many of the best speculative TV shows and movies we have today.

Warning: This article contains spoilers for series five of Ghosts
Somehow, the final series of Ghosts has neatly tied up all the show’s loose ends while still leaving us wanting more – which is a jolly good thing considering they’ve confirmed we’re getting one more Christmas special in December 2023.
They really packed a lot into those last six episodes, revealing the heartbreaking truth behind the deaths of Kitty and the Captain, showing Alison and Mike’s next step in life, and giving the whole gang the opportunity to say all the lovely, touching things fans wanted to hear (as well as adding a poignant reference to Mary in the opening credits).
Taking the characters on these final journeys involved lots of flashbacks and new faces, so let’s recap all the most important guest stars from series five:

Warning: major (or should that be captain?) series 5 spoilers. Avoid unless you’ve already streamed “Pineapple Day” And “Carpe Diem”.
Bespoke portraits, fake teeth, Mike’s monocle and the Button House sign… all treasures taken home from set by the creators of Ghosts after finishing the final series. Of the souvenirs chosen to commemorate five happy years spent making one of the UK’s best-loved comedies, one in particular has taken on extra poignancy.
Ben Willbond plays Ghosts’ WWII officer, a character (until now) known only as The Captain. Speaking at the BFI Southbank launch of the final series in September, Willbond told the crowd that his chosen filming souvenirs were taken from The Captain’s costume: a medal ribbon band and military stick, items for which Willbond plans to have a presentation box made.
In series five, The Captain’s military baton was given a backstory that merits the special treatment.

Paul McCartney said The Beatles‘ “Eleanor Rigby” has a “madcap connection” to a character from Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho. Despite this, the Psycho character doesn’t actually have much in common with the protagonist of “Eleanor Rigby.” Notably, John Lennon said the hit was inspired by the music of a famous composer.
Alfred Hitchcock’s ‘Psycho’ inspired The Beatles’ ‘Eleanor Rigby’ lyrically and musically
During a 2021 interview with The New Yorker, Paul discussed the origins of The Beatles’ “Eleanor Rigby.” “It did feel like a breakthrough for me lyrically — more of a serious song,” he recalled. “[Producer] George Martin had introduced me to the string-quartet idea through ‘Yesterday.’ I’d resisted the idea at first, but when it worked I fell in love with it. So I ended up writing ‘Eleanor Rigby’ with a string component in mind. When I took the song to George, I said that, for accompaniment, I...

Considering the four year gap between seasons 1 and 2 of "Good Omens," it's easy to see why some fans are frustrated by the season 2 finale. After two seasons of slowly building up to a romance between its two leads, "Chapter 6: Every Day" chooses to split them apart, seemingly for good. Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) decides to take up the fancy new job as Archangel, and Crowley (David Tennant) refuses to go with him and reclaim his old status as an angel. It's a dark end to a season that otherwise seemed to be building up to a happy finale.
Luckily, Neil Gaiman and the other writers involved already have plans for a third season, one that'll presumably bring our two favorite supernatural beings back together. "Season 3 is all planned and plotted and, if I get to make it, will take the story to a satisfying end. If I wasn't on strike I'd be writing it currently,...

Warning: This piece contains major spoilers for the final season of “Never Have I Ever.” If you haven’t watched yet, turn back now!
Jaren Lewison hopes the scene in Netflix’s “Never Have I Ever” Season 4 finale where Ben Gross realizes he needs to profess his love to Devi Vishwakumar (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan) becomes as iconic as Heath Ledger’s dancing in “Ten Things I Hate About You” or John Cusack’s boombox scene in “Say Anything.”
In the scene, Ben flies from New York back to California to tell Devi he “likes her,” nay, he “loves her” during Nirmala’s wedding.
“I’m really hoping that audiences respond to that because I think that’s the culmination of the last four years of every Ben and Devi moment, the first one being at Model Un when they work together. There’s a connection there, and Ben says to her,...

Senior prom is an important rite of passage for every high school graduate. It is very romanticized on TV, and romance is the focal point.
Never Have I Ever Season 4 Episode 9 broke away from the mold and confronted deeper issues that high school graduates have to contend with, especially concerning their future.
And for our nerds, they never saw a future where they didn't go to college. Getting rejected by all colleges was something Devi had never imagined herself going through.
She had fought so hard to get good grades, and the narrative had always been that you get good grades, appear well-rounded, and you will get into a prestigious college.
Seeing all those rejection letters was so shocking Devi resulted to what Devi did best. Create a mess to insulate herself.
The truth takes a while to get out but lies spread like wildfire.

Despite knowing that Never Have I Ever Season 4 would be the show's last, it hadn't felt like it for the past seven episodes.
It felt like a typical day in Devi's life as she tried to excel in her studies and become as sexually experienced as possible before she got into Princeton.
The show's tone changed considerably as many big changes started happening, and everyone felt ready for the next steps of their lives.
Never Have I Ever Season 4 Episode 8 was packed with many significant moments that made it truly feel like the end was near. It was heart-warming to see these people grow and accept the good things they had coming their way, but it was also sad realizing this was it.
The end was closing in.

We make plans and work hard towards achieving them, but life sometimes finds a way to knock us off course in a way we can never get back if we try.
Devi's plans for Princeton were cut short when she didn't receive the feedback she wanted on Never Have I Ever Season 4 Episode 6.
Everyone else had reason to celebrate because they had gotten into the college of their choice, but Fabiola was feeling less than celebratory. The secret was still troubling her.
Despite having a rough start in the morning, Devi was feeling celebratory, especially after hearing that someone had been accepted into Princeton.
Nothing could have prepared her for the results.
The feedback she'd gotten was pretty good, in most people's opinion, because it's better than being told no. Maybe there was something Princeton needed from her, and that was why they deferred her admission.

For three seasons, Never Have I Ever’s overachieving Devi Vishwakumar has been trying (and failing) to have sex for the first time. Is the fourth and final season, which began streaming today on Netflix, the charm?
The show’s final season picks up after that jaw-dropping choice she made in the Season 3 finale: to finally go all the way with her academic archrival, Ben, despite spending most of the season dating popular-yet-sweet jock Paxton. But the Season 4 premiere shows Devi’s worst fear coming true: Sex with Ben wasn’t all that great. It was anticlimactic, even.

Season 4 of the coming-of-age comedy kicked off with a bang — literally — as Devi and Ben have sex. But awkwardly losing their virginity is just the beginning of a new round of will-they or won’t-they drama.

It had nothing to do with girl code but all to do with friendship code.
Devi struggled with her attraction to bad boy Ethan on Never Have I Ever Season 4 Episode 3 when she started having sex dreams about him despite being aware that Eleanor was into him.
After realizing it wasn't for him, Paxton returned to Sherman Oaks after a short while in college.
Devi found herself in another love triangle … or more like a horniness triangle.
Ethan: And the baddest part about you is that you're betraying your friend.

Ethan: It's so hot how you're stabbing her in the back. Her feelings are gonna be so hurt.

Ever since its premiere in 2020, "Never Have I Ever" has solidified itself as a heartwarming teen dramedy that excels both at delivering the most chaotic, side-splitting scenarios, as well as moving heart-to-hearts between its characters. The Netflix coming-of-age comedy, created by Mindy Kaling and Lang Fisher, centers on Devi Vishwakumar (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan) as she navigates high school along with her best friends, Fabiola (Lee Rodriguez) and Eleanor (Ramona Young).
One of the main aspects of the storyline is the intriguing love triangle between Devi, her former academic rival Ben (Jaren Lewison), and popular high-school hunk Paxton (Darren Barnet). Season four, which premiered on June 8, finally brings the show's many romantic plot lines to a close, but fans have long wondered whether the cast of "Never Have I Ever" are single or taken Irl. Devi's car had been in her possession for less than a day before it had been vandalized.
On Never Have I Ever Season 4 Episode 2, Devi set out to find whoever was responsible for the atrocity, and she turned out to be wrong.
But before realizing that, she made a few mistakes causing friction between Ben, herself, and Margot.
Just because Devi had accepted that she and Ben were not meant to be didn't mean that her feelings for him would disappear overnight.
Ben was in a better position because he already had a girlfriend, so he could focus on her, making getting over Devi easier.
But Devi had no one. It is a thin line between love and hate; both feelings are very strong.
So, Devi set her sights on punishing Margot.
Half of it was about the car, and the other half was because she considered Margo a homewrecker.

Season four of Netflix's "Never Have I Ever" may have just dropped but we're already thinking about how we can see Devi and friends again. The Maitreyi Ramakrishnan-led teen dramedy is ending with this final season, as Devi heads off to college after completing her senior year of high school.
Back in 2022, series creator Mindy Kaling was upfront about why she wanted the show to conclude with four seasons. Well, they did it!
The nerds finally had sex on Never Have I Ever Season 4 Episode 1, but it wasn't all they thought it would be.
Sometimes you wait for something so long that the real thing will always disappoint.
Senior year was here, and there were a lot of changes. Sometimes change can be good, but other times, it drags someone out of their comfort zone, leaving them feeling lost.
Devi's life had some significant changes, but the biggest was that she'd lost her virginity to Ben Gross.
The version that had played out in her head saw the whole event happening like in the movies, or in her own words, Euphoria. Yet, it was underwhelming.
She didn't expect to feel like she'd been used for the first time.
But in Ben's defense, he was also not an expert on the subject, and if it was worth anything, he...

Devi Vishwakumar (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan) and her besties Fabiola (Lee Rodriguez) and Eleanor (Ramona Young) will return to Sherman Oaks High School to conquer their senior year with confidence, ready for anything that might come their way, or so they think. Ben Gross (Jaren Lewison) and the other boys Paxton Hall-Yoshida (Darren Barnet) and Trent Harrison (Benjamin Norris) will return to school too in various ways.
Michael Cimino’s special guest appearance as a potential new love interest for Devi will shake up Sherman Oaks, and several other faces either return briefly or join for the final season of the Netflix teen comedy show. The core characters have themselves quite a year ahead, dealing with college admissions and the close of this chapter that brought them all together.

One New York City pizzeria became The Good Place last week as former costars D’Arcy Carden, Kristen Bell, and William Jackson Harper met there for lunch. The trio of actors — who respectively played Janet, Eleanor, and Chidi on the NBC comedy — convened at NYC’s Emily restaurant, with Carden memorializing the outing with an Instagram selfie. “Lunch with my loves,” Carden wrote, captioning the pic. Instagram users, understandably, were wowed by the mini Good Place reunion, with Carden’s pic garnering more than 172,000 likes. View this post on Instagram A post shared by D’Arcy Carden (@darcycarden) “Surprised that table didn’t burst into flames with the collective hotness present,” Dax Shepard, Bell’s husband, wrote in a comment. “Awesome,” said Arrested Development alum Tony Hale. “My heart,” wrote With Love creator Gloria Calderón Kellett. And The Roots’ Questlove said, “Oh wow.” The Good Place — a comedy, created by Parks and Recreations’ Michael Schur,...

In competition at Cannes, the Italian director’s comedy-drama about a failing film-maker is full of non-comedy and anti-drama – a complete waste of time
Nanni Moretti is the Italian director who will always have a place in our hearts, not least for his masterly The Son’s Room (2001), in my view the greatest Cannes Palme d’Or winner of the century so far. And more recently his cinephile comedy Mia Madre (2015) was tremendous.
But his new film in competition is bafflingly awful: muddled, mediocre and metatextual – a complete waste of time, at once strident and listless. Everything about it is heavy-handed and dull: the non-comedy, the ersatz-pathos, the anti-drama.
It is effectively a film within a film, both as dull as each other. Moretti himself plays Giovanni, a high-minded film director with a failing marriage who is struggling to shoot his passion project about the Italian Communist party standing up to...

Netflix’s Never Have I Ever is going out with a bang.
The official trailer for the final batch of episodes of the coming-of-age high-school comedy from Mindy Kaling and Lang Fisher sees season four kicking off right where season three ended.
Though it appears Devi (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan) and Ben (Jaren Lewison) may have taken each other up on their mutual offer, the two don’t seem to be together yet, with Ben spotted kissing art student Margot (Victoria Moroles) as he and Devi have some awkward interactions.
The confusion continues as Devi spots Paxton (Darren Barnet) back at her school despite having graduated at the end of season three. But Paxton’s appearance offers a hint of how Barnet returns to the series for its final season.
Devi is shown pursuing her college dream of Princeton while she and best friend Eleanor (Ramona Young) deal with the temptation of...
