Stylish and loud, but very little substance
3 March 2024
Dune, part two definitely is impressive visually with a great musical score. The sound effects alone are remarkable and very loud specially watching it at Dolby Theatre.

And that's about it, really! The overall plot was lacking big time, without spoiling anything its strongly based on prophecy and leadership, it's very similar to many of the well known historical stories of prophets and their messages, their rise to leadership and power. Unlike history however, the story buildup is weak, the script lacks originality and the whole ( he is the one ! ) scenario have been utilized so many times in films ( for eg, the Matrix ).

There are no high stakes, whether or not the protagonist is the One has no major consequences or at least the script failed to highlight it.

The movie still has some very solid moments, like the introduction of the main villain with the black and white scenes is fantastic. In fact, the scenes with Villains were more amusing than the protagonists.

Acting is decent but nothing spectacular, Zendaya has basically the same angry impression throughout without any clear reason why. She needs to train and work harder on her skills.

Timothee Chalamant, is slightly better, but not very impressive. Dave Bautista is under utilized and both his character and Chalamant's scream too much, it's distracting.

Speaking of loud, there was also plenty of shouting from the villagers ( i think they are called Fremen ), chanting words like Lasan Algaib and Modeb, these two words probably consumed half the script, repeated over and over, it is exhausting.

I know the director wanted to reflect some authenticity with the languages, but the frequent shifting between English and Fremen or whatever its called was another distraction.

Probably the chemistry between Zendaya and Chalamant are the worst I've ever seen, i am not sure if its their acting or the script, but it felt forced and predictable.

As mentioned earlier, musical score and sounds effects are the highlight of the movie, superb and transfers you into the film as if we are in it. Same with the visuals, the color gradient and atmosphere sucks you into the world of Dune, its such an experience! But after a while, one wants a story arc to keep ones interest high, which lacked.

I would probably say the costume design department is the best, definitely impressive style and unique costume designs for almost all characters, could be nominated for best costume design.

Action scenes were loud and impressive but lacked tension because as I mentioned there are no high stakes for our protagonist losing. Not to mention, battle scenes are brief and felt rushed. I was expecting epic battles with strategies and action sequences, something like Star Wars or Lord of the Rings, but there is no emphasis or focus on the battle scenes, specifically the final battle scene.

So yeah, it is ok with some memorable scenes, but left me generally disappointed and I think its over hyped, I do recall liking the first movie more. It could have at least be shorter than 2 hours 45 minutes or some better choreography and tension in battles scenes. A little less emphasis on the prophecy angle.

Quite an enjoyable sequel
24 July 2023
I just finished watching Highlander 2 for the first time ever, and I have to say, I thought it is quite an enjoyable sequel to the first Highlander, in fact, I enjoyed this more than the first film.

Yes I agree, it does have a ridiculous storyline about the Ozone layer, and at times a hilarious script, but I felt intrigued throughout and it definitely did not drag for me in terms of pace.

The best part of it is the atmosphere and the futuristic aspect of the plot. The city landscapes and design reminded me of Gotham City of the Tim Burton Batman films, it also felt like Blade Runner at times and some aspects of the Crow.

Acting was also not bad, Sean Connery is such charismatic and you feel he is having so much fun making this film, his scenes are funny and engaging. Granted i am a big fan so i might be biased.

Other supporting actors were also pretty good including the sexy Virginia Madsen, the villain played by Micheal Ironside is also memorable. I particularly found John C Mcginley very funny and laughable, he has such dorky expressions.

I believe the biggest downfall is the lead actor, I have to say, I am not a big fan of Christopher Lambert, he generally isn't the best of actors, often wooden and lacks talent, he is probably one of the downfalls of both Highlander films.

No offense to him or his fans, but I can't remember any good performances of his.

Action is ok for that period of time, one scene in the beginning of the film was laughable with flying goblins and Connor riding a hoverboard like the one from Back to the future 2, but you have to admit, it's something intriguing and fun to watch ;)

The soundtrack was also brilliant, relying much on heavy rock, which i really liked, and the whole film manages to capture the 80s filmmaking feeling brilliantly despite it being a 1991 film and it takes place in the future ( 2024 to be exact ), one year away from the time i am writing this review !

So basically, it is a fun and fast paced film with a dark atmosphere, futuristic designs and a cool soundtrack, it is very watchable and one will find something enjoyable to see in it.

It is more Scifi than the fantasy based first film, and perhaps that's why i liked it more.

Lots of reviewers here are taking it seriously and being over critical, just enjoy it for what it is !!

Not the best in the franchise but still entertaining
16 July 2023
Dead Reckoning part 1 is the newest outing in the MI franchise. I have to say I did enjoy most parts of it and found it entertaining, but generally it is not the best in the series, in fact, it could be the least interesting out of all the films.

I think the direction of the film is what makes it slightly weak. It lacked subtlety, it felt like it is divided into segments. The opening sequence when we follow the Russian submarine was ok, despite poorly acted dramatic scenes as we are introduced to the threat. The AbuDhabi desert sequence was interesting but brief, after which we are taken to one of the lamest scenes ever where the director of the American intelligence is having a debriefing with the rest of his staff, the entire staff start explaining the situation in a very funny and unrealistic way as each one of them gives a two to three phrases of speech and the rest of the sentence is completed by the next staff and they keep completing each other sentences in a very boring, unrealistic and repeated way. This never happens in real life meetings, i think the director was trying to please as much secondary actors as possible by giving them speaking roles just for the sake of it.

The AbuDhabi airport scene was also ok, nothing super and not a lot of action, just for the sake of introducing Grace, the latest of characters in the franchise.

The car chase scene in Rome is one of the highlights of the film, and is very thrilling and well executed. This is followed by another slow and unrealistic segment in Venice, when all characters meet in a party and start pointing fingers at each other and Ethan Hunt begs the Russian lady to take his side before they make their escape and a very boring fight/chase takes place in the streets of Venice just for the sake of sacrificing one of the good guys.

The Villain i may i add is two dimensional and uninteresting, probably one of the weakest of all films.

The final train segment is the most interesting and is probably what saves this movie from failure despite teeth cringing moments ( like when Hunt is chasing the train and finds himself on a mountain cliff, he snaps at Binji who just rambles about how he is stressed out right now and Ethan should give him a break ! ) does this type of dialogue actually happen in real life ?!

And yet another over long film, what's with films these days exceeding 2 hours 30 mints run time!! This one being 2 hours 45 minutes by the end of the film im so frustrated I just want to get it over with. Hey! If you can't make and conclude a film in 2 hours max, why are you in the movie making business??

Less is more !! Film makers need to keep viewers asking for more not less,, an ideal run time would be 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours 10 minutes max ,, otherwise its just way too long and i'd rather stick to TV in this case.

The funny thing is, despite the over stretched run time, both the characters of Grace and the Villain Gabriel are poorly developed.

So yeah, the film still delivers interesting and action filled sequences, but lacks in subtlety and has poorly written dialogue at times. Stunts are not as mouth watering as the previous films but i really liked the Car chase and train fight stunts.

I think what's happening with the MI films is that they accomplished everything before and it's extremely difficult to outperform themselves anymore, i still admire their efforts in keeping to make more films out of the franchise.

One of the worst Marvel movies I've watched
8 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
They say, if you've seen one Marvel movie, then you've seen them all.

Guardians Vol 3 adds absolutely nothing new to the superhero genre, it's dull and quite predictable from start to finish, albeit I walked out possibly 30 minutes before it ended.

The plot centers around Rocket, his origins and past. I found the whole story very dull for an adult, perhaps, kids between the ages of 4 and 8 could find it amusing. His past involving brotherly love to other animals being experimented on by an evil warlord was forced and dull.

So much melodrama added, they tried making us emotionally connected to the animals, which I didn't feel, i thought they were childish cartoon characters with no background or developed characters. The scene were they chose their names was supposed to be the high point where we identify with them and connect, for me, zero connection.

They then added a somewhat violent scene that enraged Rocket, probably for kids, its frightening, for adults was over dramatic.

The whole animal unite theme seemed forced.

Seemed like a movie called Cats and Dogs or G force.

They also tried to build other characters that i felt absolutely no connection with, namely the mohawk telepathy guy and the talking dog.

Some humorous scenes were actually funny but only a few. Special effects no longer matter after the hundreds of movies out there using CGI. Action was lame and because of the lack of stakes, there is no tension invested in the scene.

The villain is possibly the worst i've ever seen, one dimensional angry lord who doesn't like to be questioned, formulatic and copy paste from Disney villains.

For the first time ever, I walked out of a Marvel movie before it ended, i just couldn't tolerate the cringing script and dialogue, the excessive melodrama, the childish scenes and how predictable it was.

And yeah, they had to find a group of lost kids who were so annoying but required saving and hurray !!! We are all happy ,,add to that the long run time and i just couldn't sit through it all.

For some reasons, the writers and directors thought cute animals and kids will automatically trigger emotions in viewers, which i did not feel whatsoever.

Do yourselves a favor and skip this.

Citizen Kane (1941)

80 years of film making put this film to bed
26 March 2023
I just finished watching this film for the first time, and i have heard so much about how fascinating and amazing film it is, I have to disagree.

Its been almost 80 years since this film was released, and you can't convince me that throughout these years of film making, this remains the best movie ever made. Sorry but no!

I can easily name 100 films that are far more superior to Citizen Kane. In fact, all Hitchcock films from the same period are better in every way and form.

People talk about the style and Cinematography, yes it must have been breathtaking at that time, but again, since then we can't ignore all the great artists who came after and astonished us with style and moviemaking.

When it comes to plot, it lacks in creating any kind of tension to grasp our attention, a mystery about a word Mr Kane mentioned at his deathbed adds nothing to us as mystery we seek to find by the end of the film. The pace is slow and filled with melodrama acting resembling that of a telenovela. Acting is average, nothing special or groundbreaking especially that the plot does not offer much for actors to stretch their skills.

I read that the movie was based on a real time tycoon who threatened to ban the film and perhaps that created a political movement that fed into the hype.

I love movies, and I enjoy lots of classics as well as newly released films, this one unfortunately is an inferior release compared to the hundreds of great films out there, and while people are entitled to their opinions, I honestly believe if we did a survey of best films ever made, this will not make in the top 100.

80 years of filmmaking put this film to bed !

I See You (II) (2019)

One of the best B movies out there, 8/8
22 January 2023
There are probably hundreds of B movies released each year, some starring big washed up names including Bruce Willis, John Travolta and Mel Gibson to name a few. Most of which are mediocre at best, but every now and then, a hidden gem of a B movie shines and actually delivers solid entertainment.

I see you is one such movie, it ticks off all the right ingredients for an excellent film.

This thriller involves a family who experience odd happenings at their house, some missing items and a wicked presence. All this while small boys are vanishing in town. A simple premise and you would think you know where it's heading, however there are twists and turns and the tension builds up that literally keeps you on edge as everything start slowly to unravel.

The first half an hour might seem slow and predictable but stick around and you'll be rewarded.

So what makes this a winner, well, the writing and the music are the highlights of this picture, the story is a mystery thriller that keeps you guessing and the music is eerie and dark.

The actors, lead by Helen Hunt are all above average which helps the film.

Probably my only beef with this movie is its title !

Highly recommended.

Don't Worry Darling (I) (2022)
9/10
I loved it
25 September 2022
Despite being of familiar territory, the film still manages to grasp and intrigue. Florence Pugh is such a treat to watch, she carried the whole film with her performance and style.

I am a big fan of mystery psychological thrillers, especially ones involving paranoia and deceit, and Don't worry darling fits that description.

It starts slightly slow but gradually builds up intrigue and tension.

Harry styles is ok, and Chris Pine was fantastic as a villain of sorts.

The movie does leave certain things unexplained , but I don't believe movies should explain every single part, its nice to leave things to the imagination.

The set designs, music and costume designs were top notch.

I loved it and recommend it.

The real reasons some countries banned this movie
6 May 2022
Those countries who banned this movie are the lucky ones, possibly the real reason is that it sucks big time !

So I went in with great expectations, firstly because I absolutely loved the first Dr Strange movie and secondly because I consider both Benedict Cumberbacht and Elizabeth Olsen as very fine actors.

Unfortunately, the movie ended up a huge disappointment, the plot and characters were poorly developed, there was a lack of tension and lack of stakes for our heroes to over come.

So many forced emotional scenes and clichés in the movie which failed to make us connect.

I did not care about whether or not Dr Strange saved the day, I cared even less about American Chavez, she lacked any depth, and the actress playing her is just awful.

We were also supposed to somehow connect with Wanda and feel for her, which was again a complete failure and supposedly we should have felt some emotions to her two annoying kids, I basically did not care at all about the characters or their motives.

They tried playing with several emotions from audiences, American Chavez and her dilemma, Wanda and her dreams of kids, Dr Strange and his girlfriend, all felt flat and empty.

The usual Marvel jokes were also lame and forced.

As mentioned I was excited about at least having good performances from top actors, sadly, they all felt flat! I really don't know why, possibly because of the poor writing and worst dialogue. Also, emotional display without connection to the viewer ultimately led to failure.

Special effects and action were decent but nothing mind blowing, some intense and sort of scary scenes were forced upon us in an attempt to create a special atmosphere but failed as well, perhaps for the 7 to 9 years old viewers it might work.

Such a let down, to those people who live in a country which banned the movie, don't sweat about it, you're not missing anything special, in fact you're lucky as this to me is the worst Marvel Movie I've seen in a while.

Who knows, this whole banning story could b a desperate marketing attempt as well.

I think Disney just blew it, it feels like a kid's movie, probably ages 7 to 13 would enjoy this, but not for the mature and intelligent audience.

I think I'm done with Marvel and Superhero movies, it's becoming over saturated.

Mortal Kombat (2021)
4/10
Disappointing
14 April 2021
I was looking forward to watching the new Mortal Kombat with much hope.

Unfortunately, this 2021 adaptation is disappointing and inferior even to the 1995 version.

The story lacks depth and so there was no tension in the film to keep us interested throughout.

The casting is the worst, actors are just terrible here, and I understand they had to find athletic people for the roles, but at least cast big names for the roles of Raiden and Tshang sun.

Lu Kang and Kung lao are two very boring and uninteresting characters.

The dialogue is also bad, apart from some funny parts, most of it seemed forced.

Then comes the fighting, definitely not very well choreographed nor properly edited despite it being superior visually to the 1995 version.

In these type of films we need to see martial arts moves to enhance the experience not just total destruction and special powers. I recall Johnny Cage vs Scorpion fight from 1995 to be the best fight so far.

Perhaps the Scorpion vs Subzero fight here is the best, yet it still feels like it's missing something.

Still the movie does offer some enjoyable parts and is stunning visually ( although i thought Reptile's scene and CGI was mediocre).

The highlight as I mentioned is Scorpion vs Subzero fight.

Please, have better writers in the future to write the script with smart dialogue, and cast better actors. Also, bring in martial arts experts for the fights choreography.

Brief Encounter (1974 TV Movie)

Beautiful film, brilliant performances
14 February 2021
I don't understand the low ratings for this film. It is quite a treat with brilliant performances by both Richard Burton and Sophia loren. I've read most negative reviews about the lack of chemistry between the two, I am not sure I noticed any lack of chemistry here. Yes the whole encounter and the subsequent relationship is awkward because it simply is. The two characters understand the awkwardness of their fling and choose to ignore it, yet it still feels uncomfortable to them. I thought this is reflected on their emotions and is why viewers interpreted as lack of chemistry, if anything, it is brilliant performances and acting by the leads. Our new generation doesn't understand love anymore, this kind of relationship displayed here is rare nowadays when all the current relationships now mostly involve sex and lust.

I loved this film, a must watch.

Why all the hate ?
8 January 2021
Brilliant fast paced film. A mixture of action, Scifi and Horror. I am quite puzzled by all the hate and negative reviews on here. It has really intense moments and keeps you on edge of your seat for the most part. The setting is also very unique and with a running time of only an hour and 23 minutes, it passes by fast. Not a dull moment. Perhaps my only take is that characters don't look much from the 1940s era, otherwise, top notch and highly recommend.

A disappointed Star Wars fan
20 December 2019
Disappointing Star Wars film, possibly the weakest of the Franchise. The first two films of this new trilogy were very good, this one just falls short. Every Star Wars film usually adds something new, a character, a creature, a new villain or a unique scene, this one adds nothing. Its very predictable and many scenes are forced. Filled with Clichés and the final battle is a copy paste from Return of the Jedi.

Even the characters are boring in this one, lacks tension and emotion that were present in the previous two. There are a few highlights here and there but generally underwhelming. Not even a decent light saber fight is in here. A Star Wars film to forget !

Shock (2016)

Good not great, feels rushed , could have been better
18 February 2018
So this film is definitely not a big budget masterpiece and it cannot compare or be listed at the same league as the super buget films out there but it certainly has some redeeming qualities.

The plot is nothing special but still engaging, the acting was pretty good from Arthur Roberts who plays the Psychiatrist. The lead actors were both decent for first time comers and with experience and training they might grow into something big.

Cinematography was excellent, however, the biggest probelm with the film is the editing which seems rushed, both the scene editing and sound editing fail miserably here. Some of the suspenseful scenes seemed rushed and so fails to build up tension.

The sound editing was also awful, espcially during some of the action more tense parts you feel there is lack of loud sound effects that makes the scene powerful.

Generally a decent effort, that could have been better perhaps if it were put in more professional hands and proper editing. Worth a watch at least to support independent films to make better films for sure.

Wow, much better than expected
26 February 2016
I watched the first four episodes today on Netflix, and I must say, i was pleasantly surprised. I was having doubts of this return / reboot of one the cutest family shows from the 80s/90s, but the show blew me away from the Pilot episode. DJ, Stefanie and Kimmi are back, now as grown ups where DJ needs to raise her 3 sons by herself, and of course require help. Danny, Jessie and Joey are also back, mainly as guest stars im guessing throughout the season. The show starts fresh with frequent recalls of events of the older show, the director even gives us split screen scenes with both the new and older show scenes playing. Subtle funny moments and not going over the top as i was expecting, with hilarious puns and jokes from the older show. The family battle newer challenges with their newer kids like the obsession with electronic tablets, etc Sadly, there is no Michelle, that the whole cast acknowledge in quite a funny way during the first episode! Who knows, she might be brought back in the future. In summary, such a great, heartwarming and funny reboot for the whole family to enjoy

Spy (2015)

If you saw the trailer, then you've seen this film
5 June 2015
Had high hopes for this movie, but it really disappoints. For some reason, these spy spoof films seem to fail, Mortdecai starring Johnny Depp is one example, nothing recent comes close to the Austin Powers films. this one sees Melissa Mccarthy playing a CIA agent who volunteers to get into the field. the movie is quite predictable and all the funny parts feel forced, and the better scenes are all seen in the trailer, basically, if you've watched the trailer then you watched the best parts of the film and you can just skip the rest. all characters are very annoying and none are likable, no real backbone history of any of them.

action was lame, and boring.

Jason Statham and Rose Byrne, two of my favorite actors fail to impress here, probably because of what they had to work with, and the poorly written script. I really got bored mid way through the film and wanted to leave, the plot is slow and you just keep waiting for the funny parts that never arrive, or do arrive but you've already seen them in the trailer.

I'd skip this one.

An insult to movie goers intelligence
31 January 2015
Just watched this last night, and I have to say it is one of the worst time travel films I have seen. For starters, the writing is a joke, the whole plot is weak and lacks any logic or intelligence for a movie based on science!! It is not smart and is filled with stupid plot holes that are quite insulting to us movie lovers. A lazy work of writing here.

The acting does not add anything special from a group of teen wanna bes. The shaky camera angle was also boring and distracting to say the least.

It actually started out well and showed potential as it created interest as the characters struggled to create the time machine, but once they succeeded, the film just felt flat and did not have any direction or goal and it lost its intrigue.

Save yourself the time and money and skip this lazy attempt of time travel film making, if anything, it did not learn anything from previous films of the same genre

Weak film, average at best!
19 January 2015
I am really starting to believe that the Academy Awards are corrupt and they tend to nominate films and directors based on names and not based on the actual movie. still they do make some worthy nominations, but films like American Sniper being nominated really pisses me off!! OK, so i understand that its based on a real American hero, and that is nice, but telling the story was terrible here, the film fails as a motion picture to watch, yet it still gets the nomination for an Oscar for best picture. One thing i know for sure, it won't win!!

the film is a series of clichés, one after the other, totally predictable from start to finish, and rips off many war films lacking in originality to the story. the whole film feels so familiar and you would seem to feel you have watched it before in countless movies and TV shows before, the whole American soldier struggling with emotions and effects of war, the PTSD, just lame and done soooo many times before, its old!

I also understand that at times, you need to retell stories, and remake certain genres of movies and reintroduce them with a new twist or take, but here, the visions of Eastwood as director lacks big time and he does not add anything special or worthy to the film.

Bradely Cooper does a good job, he is a good actor. but again, his role here was typical and the storyline did not help.

some nice action sequences here and there, but nothing that tops a Call of duty game action scene.

the whole film feels empty, it suffers from void. and despite the prolonged character development, you still don't get strongly attached to the characters, especially the wife who keeps complaining that Chris is always away, and when he is at home, he is not really there!! we really don't see her suffering, and so she ends up being a whining lame wife.

A weak film, predictable, average at best.

An Honest Review
14 December 2014
I have to say that trying to make a film based on religious and Biblical stories is never an easy task, and i like that Ridley Scott accepted that challenge, though the odds where always against him. I see a lot of negative reviews here, and i can see where they come from. the biggest problem with the film, is that we all know the story already, we read it so many times and watched several older film based on the same story, this really takes out a lot of the intrigue associated with watching a film. for example, as the movie goes on, i was constantly thinking, OK so when will Moses be banished, and then after that, OK so when will the plague start. so basically i was waiting for the next event to occur which eliminates the joy of watching this.

Other people are not happy with the religious aspects of the film, this is of no bother to me, because it is just a movie and the director is trying to take his own vision on the story. I am not going to be upset with changes from what is written in the scriptures, it is just a movie!

Having said all that, the movie still suffers in certain areas in terms of film making. As many have already mentioned, the casting director did not do a great job with the cast, for me, i did not mind seeing Bale as Moses, he is a great actor and can blend in any role, and at least he has a dark complexion and dark hair. My problem was with Aaron Paul, the guy just does not pass as a Jew in anyway, he is white, blue eyes, blond hair, tiny body! he just does not fit as a Jew in anyway! i was distracted by his presence in the movie, not that he is a bad actor.

the Cinematography and Direction, were brilliant, so were the special effects. However, we all know that these alone do not make a great movie. the film suffered from pacing problems, midway and around the end, the pace was very slow making the film feel boring at times. again, us knowing and constantly waiting for the next event might have also contributed to that! acting was also very good, Bale was excellent.

so to summarize, i think the film is unjustly being bashed as the worst film in history, which is not the case, it is still a watchable film but it does have flaws, ending up being an average film. could have been better. But i am not sure how to make such a story better?? do you?

Interstellar (2014)
7/10
Ahead of its time, and not in a good way
19 November 2014
Just came back from the Theater after watching Interstellar, wow what a ride. there are so many talking points, so many twist and turns and it has to be one of the toughest films to rate.

let me start by saying, the film was excellent in terms of Cinematography, direction and Effects.

It also had a brilliant twist at the end, a very unique concept of dimensions and time, however, that same concept was a bit of a stretch, it was all based on theories and is just way too difficult to comprehend and ultimately believe, which weakens the films in my opinion.

I felt lost in the details and events happening in the film because most of it was based on too much scientific talk, so i was lost in translation so to speak! Had difficulty knowing what was actually going on at certain points.

I guess Nolan was concentrating on the Drama here, on the emotions, however, i still think not paying attention to the details weakened the film. Another problem, was the dialog! several times during the film and at key moments, the dialog was not clear, making it even harder to understand key parts of the plot! not sure if it was a sound editing problem or the writing or was it the actor's delivery of the line!

The movie does succeed in terms of the drama and the emotions, i particularly loved the relationship arch between Cooper and his Daughter Murphy. acting was superb from most involved.

so to sum it all up, i thought the film was good and entertaining, but suffers from dialog problems and too much Science talk, it was like it was too much ahead of its time, in a bad way. perhaps, in the future, once we discover the 5-D physics, we might appreciate this film more.

John Wick (2014)
10/10
Brilliant Action film, one of my favorite Keanu Reeves' films
28 October 2014
This film is brilliant, none stop action from start to finish. Keanu Reeves is back here, proving that he has all it takes to compete with the best action film stars like Jason Statham and Liam Neeson.

the movie has a simple revenge plot that is executed to perfection, your typical retired Hit-man forced back into action after a Russian mob kill his dog.

the action scenes are out of this world, very well choreographed action sequences that resembles something out of a video game, think Call of Duty! the choreography of the scenes and the way John Wick handles a gun during gun fights are superb and very unique. Keanu deserves lots of credit for his talent in action scenes and delivering some of the stunts him self. his acting has improved, yes we all know he's not award winning actor, but he still delivers a lot in terms of charisma and character that he brings to the screen. this is definitely one of my favorite Keanu Reeves' films, and my best action film of the year. i strongly recommend this film to all action fans, Keanu fans, and any movie fans looking for some solid entertainment. i plan to go watch this a second time in the theaters!

Brilliant Horror film ! while I was watching the film at a packed movie theater, I was thinking Chucky has finally met his match in Annabelle. not that Annabelle the movie is anything like the Child's play films, it is very different and perhaps the only common factor they share is the presence of a doll.

the movie was executed professionally, everything was top notch, from direction to Cinematography, and from acting to plot and dialog, everything was in place. I also loved the 70s vibe, and the lead actress Annabelle Wallis playing Mia was also excellent.

the movie had its shares of scares, jump out of your seat surprises but nothing over the top, it might not be as scary as people might be expecting and hence some of the negative reviews here from other users. However, I thought the movie was well balanced and relied mainly on story and character rather than being overtly scary, which was perfect in my opinion and it what made it so good and successful in my eyes.

I highly recommend this, a good Horror film to start October with and prepare for Halloween. go watch it

How did this make it to the big screen ?
4 October 2014
this should have been a straight to DVD film. one of the worst movies I've seen this year. the acting was amateur, the plot was boring and the challenges facing our heroes in the film are all clichéd and boring. I wonder why Nicolas Cage agreed to make this, must be really desperate. and a very lousy soundtrack, the whole film looks like a very bad 90s B film.

the lead heroine who's Nic Cage's character's daughter just keeps running aimlessly throughout the film with dramatic clichéd tearful eyes. dialog about righteousness with that annoying background music was beyond boring. the single fact that this film made it to the big screen is a mystery to me. avoid it for your own good, watch Annabelle instead, a very solid Horror film released the same day as this drivel.

Failed to impress despite the wonderful Cinematography and brilliant acting
4 June 2014
I appreciate the effort by the director, he was really trying to create and make a unique experience in film making, which ultimately failed due to several flaws.

first of, the film captures some of the most beautiful scenery of nature shown in film, very wonderful and breathtaking cinematography.

the acting was also very solid with most involved, especially the lead actress who produced a brilliant performance.

So where did it all go wrong ?

I say the script is at fault here, the character development and backgrounds lacked big time. we really did not have enough background about these people, who are they ? what do they do ? what is the issue with their father and the bad guy ? who are the bad guys ? why are they bad ? too many questions lacked explanations and hence leading to poor definition of characters, ultimately leading to lack of tension and intrigue. I really could not care less what happened to anyone in the film, the villains or bad guys did not scare me enough despite the early rape scene, and the lead heroine or protagonist character failed to make the connection with the viewers, at least with me, enough.

the plot was decent, started out well but eventually turned into another human hunt film which as i mentioned lacked enough tension and intrigue.

one minor note is the unique lack of dialog, the whole film possibly contains around 15 to 20 lines of dialog only, it was unique film making, but could it have been the reason of lack of character definition and development ? in that, is why i believe the actress was superb, as she relied on her talent of body language and face expressions in her acting, and deserves praise.

I got really bored at the end, that i started to fast forward the film to see how it ended. i won't recommend this to anyone, but you might as well give it a try and judge for yourself.

I am not wasting my precious time on this drivel
4 June 2014
How in the hell did Micheal Madison agree to appear in this movie ? I have to say, this was one terrible and unwatchable movie, everything about it is low grade and just awful.

very poor video editing, terrible sound editing, wooden acting and awful amateur direction make this one of the worst movies i was about to see, seems everyone involved in this movie is talentless. yes i could not continue watching beyond the 11th minute of this drivel, and stopped right then and there. it was like watching an amateur video done by regular people on Youtube rather than an actual marketed film produced and released on DVD by whom supposed to be professional film makers ! i know it is a low budget film, but still i have seen many low budget movies that are way more professional and better than this.

I have to be fair and give this film 2 stars because of the remote possibility that it might have gotten better after the 11th minute, which i doubt given the repulsive, unskilled and amateurish start to it.

make yourself a favor and avoid this drivel, spend your time on something better, please

Very good sequel, Lawrence is amazing
22 February 2014
Why are there so many people hating this movie ? when i first heard of the Hunger Games and the hype surrounding it, i was not at all excited or interest in it. However, being an avid movie fan, i had to watch the first one, and found it pretty good with good action and decent story, not to mention the excellent acting.

Still, i did not become a fan of the series, and so when this second movie came out, i did not rush to watching it, until i watched the Blu ray, and i was just attached to the TV from start to finish, it was full of intrigue and visually stunning. the Character of Katnis played brilliantly by Jennifer Lawrence was interesting to follow as she developed from being the scared girl who follow rules to stronger girl.

people here seems to miss the point of the movie, yes it might feel incomplete because it seems to be one part of the next upcoming movies and that is why people seem to rate it poorly. the point of the movie is actually focused on Katnis the character, as she develops and grow in so many ways.

people seem to see it as a repetition of the first, but there were plenty of differences, this one was sharper and deeper, sorry to say some have failed to see that. this might come as a surprise to some, but i found this one to better than the first movie !

the Games were fun and though did seem rushed, again for the purpose of the bigger picture, however, decent action scenes, and an atmospheric game arena the resembles the tropic jungles.

and everyone seems to rate the acting highly, which is exactly the case, each actor playing their roles perfectly, most seem comfortable to return back to their roles from the first film and seem to have grown into it.

Visually it is also stunning to look at. OK so it is not a masterpiece, and this coming from a person who is not even a fan of the movies, but it is an excellent movie not to be missed. i thought the 2 hours and 26 minutes rushed by quickly.

just like Star Wars or Lord of the Rings, this film is only part of a whole and cannot be rated accurately without seeing the whole series, it does manage to set up for the next one, and now im excited to see the next. Will i become a fan of the series ? i might as im not far out from that.

check it out
