Nice One to watch

Salam/Hi to everyone whom read my notes here,
At first it is better to start with Fajr Film Festival and what Hatamikia did, After seeing whole the movie, I cannot find any reason for what Hatamikia said there, This Film is like any other films which are in hollywood. Too many producers make Films like this. And Hatamikia is not different from any other ones, what he tries to show he is different.
This film is slow at first, and there isnot anything interesting until the middle of movie. there are native feelings which are not easy for other people to understand and why actor did this. It is the weakest point of the movie. I think director must make film for everyone, and unfortunetly director likes to show his dreams are real. This film is drama but if i want to say a genre for this, I say "Fantasy" ¡¡
After the middle of film, this movie will be interesting, and better. Good acting, nice editing, so i like to say everyone to see this movie, evenif you do not like the director.
I like to speak about music too, sounds and tracks are not good enough for the film like this. Music can make movies to shine, and here it is normal, did not have anything especial.

Why make a mediocre movie when you can make an EPIC one?

Warning: Spoilers
Basically it's based on a story of an Iranian father & son who are pilots & are requested to fly a rescue aircraft mission from Palmyra to Damascus. Palmyra AB is surrounded by ISIS fighters and on the brink of complete takeover. The story revolves around the heroism of Iranian pilots, Syrian co-pilot, #SAA officers & civilians incl the daughter of a Syrian official in contrast with villainy of ISIS characters such as Abu Omar Al Shishani, Abu Talha Al Belgiki, Umme Salma etc.
The quality of production of the movie is pretty impressive i.e. Casting, directing, locations, acting, cinematic effects etc. And it seems that parts of the movie were actually film in Syria. The casting is a mix of Iranian, Syrian & Iraqi actors which gave the movie a lot of originality. Time length of the movie is just under 2hrs which is good. The storyline has less holes/goofs though the writer/director made efforts to over-dramatise the plot. However, looking at the heavy Iranian involvement in #Syria/#Iraq to defeat ISIS and sacrifices its army/civilians have made, this movie's scope is minuscule which many people would find disappointing.
The film starts with scene of an airdrop mission by Iran AF to besieged Shia towns of Fuah & Kafraya in northern Syria, a reference clearly set to win the hearts & minds of many Shias around the world who see Iran as their saviour. It also shows the respect & trust of Syrian army/civilians & gratitude towards Iranians. However, there seems to be a deliberate attempt to downplay Iran's involvement in Syria and hide the fact that scores of Iranian soldiers lost their lives in Syria while fighting along with their SAA allies while pouring 1,000s of $ in shape of military/civilian aid. Iran has paid a high price to fight its enemies in Syria. A subtle denial shows the gap b/w regime & its subjects many of whom think it was an unnecessary war given how majority of Iranians are suffering from economic/social misery.
The ending of the movie is self-defeating, and extremely disappointing Instead of ending the movie on a high note where Iranian/Syrian/Russian "super-heroes" successfully manage to rescue the mission, save lives & defeat terrorists from achieving their goals, the story ends on a martyrdom note where the pilot crashes the plane to foil ISIS goal, of using it for another 9/11 style attack on Damascus. Wasn't that the goal of #ISIS in the first place? Committing suicide to foil suicide mission of the enemy could be seen as heroism by many, I suppose, and plays on religious overtones.
However, if Hollywood were to make a movie on #ISIS, it'll be a rescue mission which involves the supernatural abilities of Ironman, Superman, Hulk & all Marvel characters OR a Saving Private Ryan style story which leaves the viewer on a high note despite all the doom & gloom. What's wrong projecting yourself powerful, able to foil enemy's evil plans & make feel viewers the enemy is weak & defeated? Perhaps the ending of the movie at the backdrop of a Shia holy shrine & its release during around #Ashura was meant to appeal many religious-minded Iranian men who continue to sign-up for the military & fight in theatres like Syria & Iraq.
All in all, a missed opportunity to project the successes of Iran in its fight against ISIS, despite good quality production. Should come up with something better next time!

Exciting but Parodic Overacting terrorists
dctwjxs4 December 2021
It is like an ISIS "air force one" - Exciting and feels pretty real - But , come on ....the terrorists acting is way too over-the top , almost parody. Like screaming clowns.
And is it coincidence that the Iranian hero looks like George W bush? The story is pretty unpredictable but is hard to take seriously.

Warning: Spoilers
The Iranians in Syria are criminals and murderers, as they are in Iraq and Yemen, and they are dogs to protect Bashar al-Assad. They have killed more than 800,000 defenseless civilians in Syria, including children and women, and this matter is documented.

One of the best recent movies made by Iranians
masoudhaghi17 March 2018
I usually don't watch the new Iranian movies as some does not have good storyline or has weak direction and plays. Tonight went to see the "Damascus Time" in the cinema and I was surprised to watch an exceptional movie made by Iranian director Ebrahim Hatamikia about two Iranian pilots who help the Syrian people to fly out of the occupied Syrian city by the terrorists. The story and the movie illustrated a realastic view of the terrorists and how they operate.
In terms of the visual effects, I cannot say it was the best nor was better than most of the movies, but it was some how realastic enough to help the storyline and illustrate the events and happenings in the movie. What you may watch in this movie might be happening everyday in the war zones and occupied cities in the middle east. I personally hope for the world peace and one day we might look back at these events only as a history not the reality of our world.
best one!

Warning: Spoilers
This movie did a great job in putting the viewer in the front seat of the struggle in Syria against the terrorists of ISIS. The action scenes were impressive for Iranian cinema (although slightly gory at times).
Many Iranian families have their loved ones in Syria, and this movie did a good job showing the dilemma that Iranians face in being there with their family back home, which made it very humanizing and paralleled the same sacrifice American families make sending their loved ones to countries in the Middle East.
Parts of the film came off as a bit propaganda-ish, but even Western movies have propaganda of some form. We've just grown used to a certain narrative here in the West, and so other things can seem like propaganda, and it's important to keep an open mind that saving innocent people should always come before everything else. That's something humanity can agree on.
As Ghandi said "There are many causes I would die for. There is not a single cause I would kill for."

hiteshnimsarkar11 October 2018
Apart from your routine Hollywood movies there are other which raise the bar.
And this movie falls in that category with "Dag II" (2016) a Turkish movie.
"Damascus Time" portraits thinking of ISIS/ISIL/IS terrorist.
Story 8/10 Acting 9/10
A must watch, if you like war movies.
A breath of fresh air.

This movie with all of its faults portraits a realistic and understandable picture of what ISIS was, if you have a prior knowledge of Isis you will underestand movie and its graveness better and characters will be more believable. I think it shows different kind of Isis members and their beliefs pretty good.
Fascinating

Such an exhilarating show for an Iranian Production, won't spoil it for anyone here, but be sure to watch in full. It might be fair to mention that this is a movie that would shake your entire existence, so unless you are NOT ready for such a ride, tread with caution!
