Since then, Horrocks has become part of the fabric of the nation. On the big screen, she’s voiced a knitting-loving chicken in 2000’s Chicken Run and a duck opposite Bill Murray’s Garfield. In the flesh, she appeared in Dexter Fletcher’s Proclaimers jukebox musical Sunshine on Leith, and opposite Rob Brydon in 2018 sports comedy Swimming With Men. Trainspotting producer Andrew Macdonald has been appointed as the new Chair of the Edinburgh International Film Festival (Eiff).
As part of the role, Macdonald will lead the formation of a new organization that will deliver Eiff from 2024. Macdonald will now recruit a board and executive team to lead the Festival’s development from September 2023.

Written by John Hodge and directed by Danny Boyle, the film was a box office success and won the BAFTA for Best British Film. Macdonald went on to produce several films with Boyle, including Trainspotting, A Life Less Ordinary, The Beach, and T2 Trainspotting. Since 1997 he’s headed DNA Films,...

Apple TV+ dropped the trailer for the upcoming rom-com turned thriller “Ghosted,” which stars Chris Evans and Ana de Armas.
The trailer shows Evans’ character Cole certain that Sadie (de Armas) is not just “ghosting” him, or ignoring his texts, after one date. Convinced they are meant to be together, he travels to London in what he hopes to be a romantic gesture, only to discover Sadie is not the person he thought, and is actually part of the CIA. What ensues is a spy-thriller where “action speaks louder than words.”
De Armas joins the film after her recent Oscar nomination for “Blonde.” Her credits also include “Deep Water,” “Blade Runner 2049” and “No Time to Die.” Evans has played Captain America in several Marvel Cinematic Universe films, as well as performed in “Before We Go,” “Gifted” and “Playing It Cool.” Evans and de Armas previously acted together in “Knives Out” and “The Gray Man.

"Get every bounty hunter on the continent." Everyone wanted more of Ana de Armas a secret agent in No Time to Die - so they went and made this to deliver exactly that!! Apple has unveiled an official trailer for a romantic comedy action adventure movie called Ghosted, from the acclaimed filmmaker Dexter Fletcher. "Meeting that special someone can be a real adventure." Cole falls head over heels for enigmatic Sadie—but then makes the shocking discovery that she’s a secret agent. Before they can decide on a second date, Cole and Sadie are swept away on an international adventure to save the world. Haven't we seen this plot about 100 times before? Chris Evans and Ana de Armas star, with Adrien Brody, Mike Moh, Amy Sedaris, Tim Blake Nelson, and Tate Donovan. This looks remarkably derivative and cheesy, but I know tons of people will enjoy it anyway. Dive in below.

Kevin Guthrie, a Scottish actor known for his roles in the “Fantastic Beasts” films, “Dunkirk” and “Sunshine on Leith,” has been sentenced to three years in jail for sexually assaulting a woman in Glasgow.
Guthrie denied the charges, saying he had simply helped the woman after she fell ill, the BBC reports. However, his DNA was found inside her underwear. Following a four-day-trial, he was found guilty and placed on the sex offenders registry indefinitely.
The attack took place at the flat of fellow actor Scott Reid in September 2017. The court heard how a 29-year-old woman had plans to meet the pair at a bar before falling ill in a taxi on the way to the flat. According to BBC, Reid called an NHS helpline while Guthrie helped the woman inside and stayed behind to look after her. She told the court that she remembered being placed on the bed then having her top removed.

Fresh from the Oscar-winning 1917, the actor is taking on his most challenging role yet

The lovable filmmaker Dexter Fletcher is set to tackle an adaptation of ‘Dracula’ story R.M. ‘Renfield’ for Universal Pictures‘ new revamped Monster universe.
‘Renfield’ is a fictional character that appears in Bram Stoker’s 1897 Gothic horror novel ‘Dracula’. He was an inmate at a lunatic asylum who was thought to be suffering from delusions which compel him to eat living creatures in the hope of obtaining their life-force for himself. It later turns out he is actually a servant of Dracula.
Plot details are currently unknown, though it’s believed to take place during the present day and is not a period piece.

Matthew James Wilkinson, one of the original producers of box-office hit “Yesterday,” has his latest movie, “Days of the Bagnold Summer,” premiering at the Locarno Festival on Wednesday. He talks to Variety about those movies, as well as upcoming projects, including a heist musical, a feminist horror pic, and a new film – as yet unannounced – directed by BAFTA winner Paul Andrew Williams.
Wilkinson is riding high on the success of “Yesterday,” which he brought to screenwriter Richard Curtis, who in turn helped persuade Working Title and Universal Pictures to come on board, with Danny Boyle attaching as director to form a dream team.
Reflecting on what has driven the film’s popularity with audiences – it has grossed more than $125 million worldwide – Wilkinson says: “It is partly escapism. We are living through quite difficult and complicated times, so when you present something that is charming and takes you out of the everyday,...

“Rocketman” filmmaker Dexter Fletcher has come on board to direct the latest “Sherlock Holmes” film, with Robert Downey Jr. returning to star.
Fletcher is taking over the franchise from Guy Ritchie, who helmed the previous two films: 2009’s “Sherlock Holmes” and its follow-up 2011’s “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.” Both were highly successful, with the first grossing $524 million globally and the second bringing in $545.4 million worldwide.
Sources say Warner Bros. had always planned on making a third film. However, Downey’s busy schedule as Iron Man prevented any new filming for the series. The forthcoming entry of the mystery series is expected to hit theaters on Dec. 21, 2021.
Jude Law is also expected to return as Professor Watson. Chris Brancato is penning the script, while Susan Downey, Joel Silver, Dan Lin and Lionel Wigram are producing. The studio had originally announced that the film would open on Christmas Day of...

"You gotta kill the person you were born to be in order to become the person you want to be." Paramount has debuted a second trailer for Rocketman, the upcoming biopic about the colorful life of famed musician Elton John, as played by Taron Egerton. This trailer goes all out and gives us a taste of the flamboyant world that Reginald Dwight (who eventually changed his name) inhabited. This is the latest film by Dexter Fletcher and it looks like a musical extravaganza worthy of Elton's career. The full cast includes Jamie Bell as Bernie Taupin, as well as Bryce Dallas Howard, Richard Madden, Steven Mackintosh, and Gemma Jones. Well, call me crazy, but I think this looks wonderfully entertaining - with epic dance scenes and all kinds of wild fun. Here's the second official trailer for Dexter Fletcher's Rocketman, direct from Paramount's YouTube: You can still watch the...

"All we can do is give our heartfelt interpretation of his life and his music..." Paramount has debuted a new featurette for Rocketman, the upcoming biopic about the life of famed musician Elton John, as played by Taron Egerton. The promo video explains that it's actually Taron singing the songs in the film, and even Elton was impressed by him. This is the latest film made by Dexter Fletcher. Paramount seems to be capitalizing on Bohemian Rhapsody's success and preempting any discussion on whether Taron is worthy enough for the role. The full cast includes Jamie Bell as Bernie Taupin, as well as Bryce Dallas Howard, Richard Madden, Steven Mackintosh, and Gemma Jones. There's another trailer out later this week to build the hype even more. Mamma Mia Figaro! We’ve been anticipating a movie about the life of Queen frontman Freddie Mercury for the last seven years, when it looked like Borat himself, Sacha Baron Cohen, might play the flamboyant singer. And at long last, we got images from the film “Bohemian Rhapsody” signaling it would finally come to pass. Now director Bryan Singer has been fired from the film, but there’s still hope it will be released by December of 2018. Here’s a brief history of the long road the film has taken to hopefully get made.
September 2010
Sacha Baron Cohen, a spitting image of Mercury and with just the right amount of flamboyance, is locked in to play Freddie Mercury in the untitled film written by “Frost/Nixon” scribe Peter Morgan, with Graham King, Tim Headington, Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal all attached to produce. Supposedly the film would not focus on...

Taron Egerton plays (and sings) Elton John in the Dexter Fletcher-directed biopic, Rocketman.
Rocketman is set to manifest as a rousing cinematic reverie, chronicling the rise of the great Elton John to his place as one of the most popular music acts in history, and the enduring legacy he’s still building to this day (his current world tour is said to culminate in a 2021 retirement).
However, the narrative here is the uncanny performance of star Taron Egerton, who not only embodies the man born Reginald Kenneth Dwight onscreen, but even sings his own renditions of the artist’s legendary smash songs!
Dexter Fletcher stepped into the director’s chair for Rocketman, serving as a reunion with star Egerton, who he directed, opposite Hugh Jackman, in the 2015 comedy, Eddie the Eagle.

Watch the first trailer for Dexter Fletcher's Elton John biopic starring Taron Egerton.
Dexter Fletcher’s fantasy Elton John biopic has given us its first glimpse of Taron Egerton in action – with a teaser that brings us singing, dancing, and a disco full of flying people.
We already know that Rocketman is going to be a less than conventional biopic – with Egerton telling us the film will be a “musical fantasy” that uses John’s songs to “express important beats in his life at emotional moments” – and the teaser already looks like it has plenty of amazing musical set-pieces built around John’s hits.
We also know that the film won’t be holding back on showing the singer’s dark side either. John is producing the film, alongside husband David Furnish, and Kingsman’s Matthew Vaughn, but reportedly told Fletcher to show him, warts and all.

The Rocketman star looks pretty uncanny in costume as Elton John.
The first picture of Taron Egerton in Rocketman has been released, and he already looks pretty perfect for the role. Hidden behind a scruffy wig, giant sparkly glasses and some seriously cool sneakers, Egerton’s take on Elton John looks like everything it needs to be.
Rocketman is pitched as a “musical fantasy” rather than a straight biopic, with Egerton telling The Telegraph that John’s songs are “used to express important beats in his life at emotional moments,” adding that “He’s not the only character that sings.”
Directed by Dexter Fletcher – who already has form with Egerton after Eddie The Eagle, form with musicals after Sunshine On Leith, and form with long-gestating, possibly problematic biopics after replacing Bryan Singer on Bohemian Rhapsody – Rocketman is being produced by Elton John himself.

A low-rent Scottish-set take on High School Musical, crossed with beloved festive Brit-fun Nativity, and… Shaun of the Dead? John McPhail’s second feature has one helluva set-up; a pop-tastic teen musical that pits its leads against a flesh-hungry hoard of zombies as Christmas fast approaches, with plenty of blood and brains and bouncy show tunes thrown in for good measure. The stage is set for the oddball fave of the year; or at the very least, another fun-loving sing-along in the vein of Dexter Fletcher’s Proclaimers riot Sunshine On Leith – but with a bit more blood. And while there are definitely elements of both of these in Anna and the Apocalypse, neither quite manage to make it up to scratch.

Get your first look at Rami Malek in the biopic “Bohemian Rhapsody” in the new teaser trailer above, which was released by 20th Century Fox on May 15. Dexter Fletcher, the director who stepped in after Bryan Singer went Mia from the set of 20th Century Fox’s forthcoming “Bohemian Rhapsody,” spoke exclusively to IndieWire about entering the production chaos that befell the Freddie Mercury biopic in late 2017. “It was an extraordinary set of circumstances,” said Fletcher in a phone interview from London.
Reportedly butting heads with star Rami Malek, Singer never returned to the London set following the Thanksgiving holiday. The studio announced Fletcher as his successor December 6, the day between Singer’s firing and being hit with a sexual assault lawsuit.
“Bohemian Rhapsody” development began in 2010, and Fletcher was once slated to direct the film for Sony. The producers admired “Sunshine on Leith,” his 2013 adaptation of a stage musical built around songs by The Proclaimers. In March 2014, Deadline reported Fletcher’s exit from the project, citing creative differences with producer Graham King — including whether the film should be R-rated.

Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling lay on the charm in Whiplash director Damien Chazelle’s magical love letter to the golden age of Hollywood
The Australian film-maker Stephan Elliott once jokingly told me that he’d made The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert to bring screen musicals back from the grave into which Xanadu had put them. Yet despite reports of their death, musicals have never gone away, providing the backbone of the movie business in key territories such as India, and regularly flourishing elsewhere across the globe. In 2008, Phyllida Lloyd’s film of the Abba-fest Mamma Mia! became a record-breaking UK hit (paving the way for Sunshine on Leith et al), while stage-to-screen adaptations, from Chicago to Les Misérables, have consistently charmed Oscar voters in America.

On paper, you could argue that the basic components of Captain Fantastic don’t sound like a recipe for cinematic brilliance: Viggo Mortensen plays Ben, a hippy-ish father of six kids, who he has named things like Bodevan, Kielyr and Rellian. He raises them in the woods, home-schooling them using a vast selection of books and training them in the ways of survival using mother nature’s canvas as a classroom.
I was worried going in it’d this this would be a garish and unrealistic film about a super-quirky family with nothing engaging or relatable about them. But, I’m pleased to report that this is one of the finest films I’ve seen a long time. Captain Fantastic has heart, drama, and humour in abundance. Writer-director Matt Ross, with only his second feature, has hit on something truly excellent here.

A new psychological thriller is currently in pre-production, with acclaimed filmmaker J.A Bayona (A Monster Calls) acting as producer. The film, titled Marrowbone, will be the feature length directorial debut of screenwriter Sergio G. Sanchez, who has previously collaborated with Bayona on The Orphanage and The Impossible. With Lionsgate International backing the project, momentum is continuing to build, as actress Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch) has now joined the cast.
With a tone similar to The Orphanage, Marrowbone will tell the tale of five siblings living in a vast, isolated manor. They have kept secret the death of their mother, in an attempt to stay together. However, it soon becomes clear that there is a sinister presence in their midst. Mia Goth (Everest), George Mackay (Sunshine On Leith), and Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things) already feature in the cast, and they are now joined by Taylor-Joy, who will shortly be seen...
