Fun Stuff

Trivia:
In her September 2005 book "Close Up and Personal", Catherine Deneuve writes of the difficulties of filming this movie. Despite some initial misgivings (filming of the musical scene in the factory was "disordered", and film preparations ran late) Deneuve decided that things would be professional, as Lars von Trier knew what he wanted to do and people would follow his lead. Later, however, she says she realized there was no point asking von Trier to explain her character further, because she didn't have many scenes. Deneuve's account makes it clear both Von Trier and Björk were difficult to work with, but she also comments that she enjoyed the experience, while not making real connections. more
Goofs:
Continuity: When Selma knocks on the door and her foreman answers it the door opens from the wrong direction and they are clearly not in the same factory building. more

My Cinematic Unemotional Streak- Broken!, 13 October 2000
10/10
Author: wentzjw55 from Denver, Colorado

This is one of the best movies I have ever seen. I was not familiar with the director's previous work, but had picked up the soundtrack by Bjork and was intrigued.

Selma (incredibly portrayed by Bjork) makes the audience laugh and weep simutaneously just by following her heart. Every character is played flawlessly, and the cinemetography is innovative and dynamic. The musical numbers jump to life in a 'colorized' style, emphasizing the break from the dismal reality of Selma's painfully decaying life.

I will say only this. I hate crying at movies. Yet, as I was driving home, mad at the fact that I was still sobbing uncontrollably, I realized how much I loved this movie.
