Some good elements, some not good ones.
Sleepin_Dragon7 November 2022
A woman and her daughter are haunted in their home by a presence they believe is the ghost of murder victim Marliz Spannhake.

This was such a strange episode, the series so far has been straight up mysteries and slightly more other worldly, this is a fusion of the two, at one point I thought I'd somehow skipped into the next episode accidentally.

Not perhaps the easiest one to follow, this one does jump about a bit, it doesn't flow quite so well, I found the story of Marie very interesting and incredibly sad, I can't say I enjoyed the story of Jodi Foster in the slightest, I felt it diminished Marie's story, it was all about them, not this poor woman.

The main mystery surely has to be, where is the body of Marliz Spannhake, if only she could be found to allow her family to grieve, and put her to rest in peace.

Overall, some of it was interesting and intriguing, some of it was just trashy, 6/10.

Ruined by paranormal con woman!
constnc14 January 2023
Unsolved mysteries needs to leave opportunist hocus pocus fame mongers out of it's true crime documentaries! Jodi Foster made an utter joke out of what is a very disturbing crime. I had heard of Colleen's nightmare ordeal at the hands of these two freaks of nature but until this documentary at no time was this young woman Marliz ever mentioned as part of this monster's criminal history! Yet her disappearance, torture & murder are very much worth mentioning! Sadly Unsolved Mysteries had to go and throw in some quack telling made up paranormal stories for what reason? Would have been a much higher rating otherwise!

Another crazy man

Warning: Spoilers
So the story at the begin let us think that is a ghost story and we will see some paranormal events that i really have a hard time to believe the credibility of it with all that paranormal events but the important thing was not there. We will learn about some womens and mostly Mary Elizabeth and Colleen who will succeed to get out of the killer hands and be rescued. The killer will be judge for the crime of Colleen but Mary Elizabeth body will not get found that make things horrible and we learned later that the killer will get released from prison later. Thats pretty horrible and how there is no justice in any society in almost all country. And pretty hard to hear all that killer did to the young girls. So yeah the body of Mary elizabeth is still missing. That case is pretty horrible but not really scary from what we saw at the beginnig. Its more a criminal case that other kind of thing. Interesting anyway but horrible.

Worth the watch!
TheBlandCritic13 November 2022
I thought this episode was well done. It has ghost elements to it, but is not heavily integrated into the story. It was very intriguing and interesting to see how all the pieces fit together.

Yes, there are a lot of pieces to this story, but that's what makes it a good mystery! After all, the title of the show is "Unsolved Mysteries." Sometimes in order to make sense of a story you have to delve into all the different paths and eventually they will all meet up again.

I definitely don't agree with the other negative reviews. Watch it with complete focus and you'll have no problem making sense of it. Worth the watch!

The Ghost Element Ruins It
mattdavies-0899113 January 2023
The missing persons element is fine and interesting.

But sorry Jodi Foster is blatantly an absolute con-artist and this ruined it for me. How many horror movies has she borrowed from to build this 'story'? Certainly Poltergeist is in there. Its not the 1980s any more, these kind of stories don't fool people like they used to.

A quick search online search shows the story has been documented before in Psychic Detectives (where she reviewed the episode herself as 10/10) and she has written a book about the story which has some interesting reviews to say the least.

If you take this element out, then it's an okay episode.

This episode is garbage
SixteenFiftyNine7 February 2023
The woman named Jodi Foster in this is simply a fame monger who would like to be as famous as Jodi Foster "the director" as she put it, not as you'd think someone referring to Ms. Foster would if they are going to mention the director aspect, actor/director. This nobody Jodi Foster has a need for attention, and it completely makes a mockery of this entire episode and the crime. Honestly, the moment she started talking you could tell she was telling nonsense. They try very hard near the end to equate these numbers and alpha-numeric "clues" to something solid but the fact is they don't. This did not lead to Marliz's body or any evidence. Unsolved Mysteries should be ashamed of themselves, especially for opening the episode with this looney. The worst part of it is she's dragged her daughter into her nonsense since she was groomed on this paranormal crap from a young age. Just honestly shameful on the part of this nobody Jodi Foster and Unsolved.

Seriously, this is rubbish
Timothynorris15 May 2023
Honestly, this Jodi Foster and her kid are really disturbing people. Lying fake psychics. Just like every other one. Surely this is not what they're going to do with this formerly great series. Someone failed in the vetting of the Fosters. It was a poltergeist rip off. Other episodes are not like this, thank God. In fact the episode attempts to redeem itself by moving away from the Fosters. Foster is apparently working on her third book. If you are looking for a plagiarizing wacko seek her out. The other reviewers have plenty of opinions on Foster, check out their comments and reviews. Unsolved mysteries, you can do better.

Unsolved Mysteries.
bombersflyup9 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
A women and her young daughter experience hauntings in their new apartment, linking them to the grisly murder of Marliz Spannhake in 1976.

A difficult episode to discuss, with the brutal sinister crimes and then the merging of the paranormal lunacy of a poltergeist, with talking dolls and moving furniture, trying to tie it in with the serious events. Neither being an interesting watch. One of the problematic themes of the current version of "Unsolved Mysteries" is the inclusion of these phantasmal tales and theories mixed in with the real tragedies. It even puts into question the half that is supposedly real, somewhat.
