Is it food or politics?

Just another of hundreds of food tours of Italy docs.

Annoying because Stanley Tucci makes it political without really knowing the true facts. When will Hollywood lefties learn that no one cares about their fake opinions.

Good show less your political view

Different world different times .

It's very difficult to boat in and camp up in USA .

So why should Italy be any different .

And no Italy don't let people drown but take the boats back.

Make a difference in your county rather than leve .

Political Lecture
silentcalcorner21 March 2021
I studied abroad in Milan and looked forward to seeing one of my favorite actors stroll through the city I spent so many beautiful days. For most of the show he is on the straight and narrow. He hits the spots you'd expect, like the roof of the duomo, navigli, a secret bar and goes truffle hunting. He is serviceable as a host bringing his own Italian and high-class charm.

When he goes to the picture-perfect Lake Como, the show goes off the rails. Instead of continuing on the center line and eating a mountain of Bellagios finest seafood, he attempts to do what he is not: be Anthony Bourdain. He speaks with local fisherman while trying the trade a bit himself, covering overfishing on the lake and their difficult daily routines. Then, when he goes to the fisherman's house to consume what they just drew out of the depths, it truly turns into a CNN program.

The fisherman he befriended turns out to be a Lega Norde "northern league" supporter, a party on the extreme right known for their anti-immigration policies. It's understandable Tucci disagrees with him, but why bring it up after he brings you into his home? The Devil Wears Prada actor starts an awkward lecture about the benefits of immigration, all the while the man opposite him grows increasingly uncomfortable. Salvini, the leader of lega norde, is not someone to be admired, but it all came across very judgmental. He wasn't trying to connect, he was trying to critique. He is the anti-Bourdain.

Stick to cooking!

I was enjoying seeing the differences in cuisines between the regions of Italy on this show until Mr. Tucci felt the need to inject his libtarded politics into episode 4. Yes, the ARROGANT, millionaire, Hollywood, 1-percenter actually attempts to lecture to/shame an Italian fisherman over the North's opposition to uncontrolled mass migration!

Mr. Tucci needs to understand that the fisherman lives in the real world, not in a secure, gated mansion. There have been many horrific attacks, rapes, and murders of Italian citizens and tourists by migrants in recent years. How dare some out-of-touch, wealthy, elite, American actor try to make the Italian guy feel guilty for wanting to be safe?! How dare he try to make a fisherman (as in someone whose income literally depends on the weather!) feel guilty for not wanting the Italian government to put migrants up in hotels and pay them a stipend while 5 million Italian citizens live in abject poverty?!

Tucci's attempt to equate the legal, controlled immigration of Italians to America (where there were strict quotas and they had to show proof of their identity, their health, and their ability to support themselves and/or of a relative who would sponsor them) with the mass migration of unskilled, 3rd-world immigrants to Italy is absolutely ludicrous! What NERVE of him to be standing in the fisherman's modest, little kitchen, preaching at him like that. He should be ashamed of himself. If he's so concerned, he can always offer to let a few of the migrants picked up by the Italian coast guard stay in his mansion, with his wife and children, or maybe even spend some of his millions to build them houses. Oh, I forgot, no lefty actor would actually do such a thing, they just like to lecture to us plebes about what WE should do!

Tucci just needs to shut up and cook!

He is in fact Anthony Bourdain wannabe
eleen-330 March 2021
I hate it when americans start to lecture people of other nations how they should act in their own countries. Anthony Bourdain was doing the same, example: Russia, Vietnam and Libya episodes of Cuts unknown. While admiring the Italian culture and being grateful that so many truly italian things have been preserved, he goes ahead with political liberal narrative about letting other countries in and become a melting pot what america is in an essence. What good does it make? And especially- lecturing a person who just cooked for you. C'mon americans, stop telling the world how to live. This was the disappointing episode of otherwise great food&travel show. Not surprised whole thing is produced by CNN....

From mildly entertaining to grossly political

Who is Stanley Tucci to lecture or interject his opinion into Italian politics with a (very kind and not nearly as boorish) local artisan, who lives and works In Lombardi every day of his life? Does not the local know more? Tucci's opinion gets flown like a virtue-signaling flag; it's beyond arrogant AND ignorant and reeks of Hollywood Elite privilege. In case you forget that this is a CNN production, this episode reminds you of that in a very obtuse and annoyingly American way. It was also rather rude to make someone think you are there to sample their rare cheeses and give them some level of recognition when you really just want to talk politics in between each bite of the food they made just for you. I went into this in hopes that it would be fun, lighthearted, and educational and not to hear a spoiled millionaire saturate it with his political leanings, so really not sure if it's worth my time to continue on.

Good show ruined with political lecture
cheryericvogel8 May 2022
I wonder how Stanley Tucci would react if he graciously took time out for a day to guide an Italian filmmaker around his area THEN invited this person and their crew into his home to cook a meal, only to have the filmmaker stick the camera in his face and begin questioning Mr. Tucci's political affiliations. What if this filmmaker started lecturing Mr. Tucci (in his own home) about "how things are done in Italy", and how the US would be better if they adopted Italy's policies. That is exactly what Mr. Tucci did to a gracious Italian fisherman. The arrogance of Mr. Tucci believing he knows what is best for another country is astounding on its own. The nerve to go in with ulterior motives (Mr. Tucci surely knew this man's politics ahead of filming) and put a camera in a man's face and argue/lecture him in his home about those arrogant beliefs is shameful. This is an excellent show that I find entertaining and informative. But I was embarrassed and uncomfortable as an American to watch that episode.
