Dancers and non-dancers alike can rejoice at the announcement of upcoming dance documentary “Dance As You Are,” a new project from “Embattled” producer Eryl Cochran. The film was shot almost exclusively on iPhones over 60 days and is the first release from Cochran’s new production label Keykix.
“Dance As You Are” centers on a group of 75 strangers, ages 23-74, who must come together to form six dance teams over the span of eight weeks. The participants in the documentary are not professional dancers, and some have never even danced before. As a result, the participants find themselves connecting over the shared experience of learning dance.
According to the press release, the participants of the documentary come from a diverse range of backgrounds. Audiences will see them “work to overcome a handful of personal struggles” over the course of their time together. One dancer tries to discover themselves outside the label of “learning disability,...

Actor John Leguizamo recently spoke about his childhood experience – and how it informed his comedy and politics.
Leguizamo explained how his bike frequently gets stolen growing up in New York City. “Now I have the crappiest bike and it’ll probably get stolen anyway,” he told an audience at SXSW in Austin, Texas.
He recalled the first time he got mugged when he was just seven years old over his first bike. He grew up in Jackson Heights, Queens with his immigrant parents. He specifically recalled how his parents, “would make me earn my Christmas presents. So I had to read the encyclopedia to try to get my Christmas present, so I read the god— A’s, and I got, they got me my bike.”

Magnolia Pictures has snapped up U.S. rights to Master Gardener — the latest starry feature from Academy Award nominee Paul Schrader (First Reformed), which world premiered at this year’s Venice Film Festival and most recently screened at the New York Film Festival. Pic is slated for release next year.
The crime thriller scripted by Schrader — marking the last film in his recent trilogy including First Reformed and The Card Counter — follows Narvel Roth (Loving‘s Joel Edgerton), the meticulous horticulturist of Gracewood Gardens. He is as much devoted to tending the grounds of this beautiful and historic estate as to pandering to his employer, the wealthy dowager Mrs. Haverhill (Avatar‘s Sigourney Weaver). When Mrs. Haverhill demands that he take on her wayward and troubled great-niece Maya (Black Adam‘s Quintessa Swindell) as a new apprentice, chaos enters Narvel’s spartan existence, unlocking dark secrets from a buried violent past that threaten them all.

“Succession” is a little closer to returning for its fourth season.
Over the weekend, at the BAFTA TV Awards, executive producer Jesse Armstrong shared an update on how writing the fourth season is going (the show was renewed for a fourth season last October).
“We’re almost done with the writing for Season 4, here in London, with the American writers coming over,” he said, per Radio Times. “They’re a really great group of people to talk about the nuances of character and the world and what we’re doing on the show.”
When the writers meet, however, that won’t mean completion of the scripts. Armstrong, who created the HBO show, said they do talk with the actors about their story arcs because “they’re smart and they think things about their character.”
Armstrong also spoke out about — at some point — concluding the series about the ultra-wealthy media and cruise line family The Roys,...

With the box office’s rebound just as 5K attendees are reconvening at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, exhibition and studios can rest easy knowing that there’s a return to a theatrical window. For most studios with tentpole fare, that’s 45 days, and for those titles with less commercial appeal or aimed at specialty audiences, it’s 17 days.
With a summer box office that’s loaded with such window-respecting movies as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Top Gun: Maverick, Thor: Love & Thunder, Jurassic World: Dominion, Lightyear, Elvis, Nope, Bullet Train, and more, it’s pretty safe to say that most of the majors have gotten their jonesing for day-and-date out of their system. They’ve largely learned that collapsed windows siphon ticket sales, spur greater piracy and infuriates talent. Studio executives are re-awakening to the power of windows, and if there’s any indication to which way the wind is blowing,...

Among the chrome skyscrapers and beckoning show lights in Downtown Miami stands The Freedom Tower, a government building with a distinctive Mediterranean flair that processed Cuban refugees who fled the nearby Caribbean nation to pass the time between Fidel Castro and democracy.

What would you ask the former Harry Potter villain, co-star of Operation Mincemeat and self-styled ‘specialist in unattractive characters’?
You may know Jason Isaacs best for playing Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter series – the Slytherin Hogwarts ex-governor and bad dad to Harry’s nemesis, Draco Malfoy.
He’s been in plenty of other films, though: as Captain Hook in 2003’s Peter Pan as well as co-starring with Matt Damon in 2010’s Green Zone and Bryan Cranston in 2016’s The Infiltrator. He was extraordinary as Zhukov in The Death of Stalin and as the father of a school shooter in Mass, released earlier this year, and has done sterling work on stage, notably in the first London production of Angels in America. All in spite of having one of those faces that Isaacs himself says lets him travel unnoticed on the Tube to film premieres but still has people “screaming...

You might have blinked and missed multi-disciplinary artist Domino among the throngs of party-goers at Rolling Stone’s pre-Super Bowl party. As hundreds of Los Angeles’ most influential traipsed between the event’s star-studded performances, roped-off areas, and red carpets, digital-art darling Domino could be found surveying the non-fungible art adorning the walls of presenting sponsor Coinbase’s, well, base. Sure, iann dior may have been ascending the outdoor stage 100 feet away, but here was a room exhibiting some of the most exciting contributions to the Nft landscape…including Domino’s own.

This week’s Euphoria is a recapper’s hell but a viewer’s delight. Here’s why.
The episode’s main story concerns the staging of Lexi’s play, the thinly veiled version of her — and her friends’ — high school experience that she’s been talking about for weeks. That veil is so thin, in fact, that the episode often blends real-life events into Lexi’s version of them; at times, it’s tough to tell what’s actually happening in the lives of Rue & Co. and what’s unfolding on the auditorium stage.

Whenever a film begins with a disclaimer asserting that the story you’re about to see is fictional — and furthermore, that what shall unfold on-screen “should not be considered a reflection of a reality” — it’s hard not to go in assuming the exact opposite. Why protest so much if there’s no factual basis there? In the case of “Undercover,” our skepticism is precisely the filmmakers’ intent: That introductory, legally obligatory text could hardly make its irony any clearer with actual scare quotes. Names have been changed, but anyone familiar with the headlines can tell that Thierry de Peretti’s no-frills, teeth-gritted procedural thriller has been drawn from the real-life case of former French anti-narcotics chief Francois Thierry, charged in 2017 with complicity in large-scale drug smuggling using police resources. It’s a sensational affair that de Peretti treats with sober practicality, emulating the patient investigative techniques of the journalist...

Joel Edgerton and Sigourney Weaver will star in “Master Gardener,” a new crime thriller from Paul Schrader, a master of the genre.
Schrader is on a bit of a hot streak after scoring an Oscar nod for his screenplay for “First Reformed.” Astoundingly that marked his first nomination despite penning some of the greatest movies ever made. His new drama, “The Card Counter,” debuts at the Venice Film Festival. He’s previously plumbed the dark depths of the soul in works like “Taxi Driver” and “Raging Bull.”
In Schrader’s next outing, Edgerton will star as the master gardener of an American estate who is forced to confront his dark past. Weaver will co-star as his employer, a wealthy dowager, who demands that Edgerton’s character take on her wayward and troubled great-niece as a new apprentice. Chaos ensues…or so says the official longline.
