Unique and intriguing
tristan_192 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The Holding is a unique episode in The Walking Dead universe and it feels fresh, which says a lot, after 10 seasons of the main show, and almost 6 of Fear.

We get a lot of mystery in this episode, as the new group is successfully introduced. Riley and Teddy are actually scary. Alicia also has a big role in this episode, and she is ready to protect the group at all costs. Setting the place on fire reminded me of Madison, and the last 10 minutes or so is incredible. A couple little twists here and there (Wes killing his brother among other things), sustained suspense and cool action make this episode truly interesting and worth watching.

Some people can't review
How people give this episode a 1 or 2 star rating is beyond me. Some people can't review. If you didn't like the writing that's fine. The actors did great and screenplay was great. Give a fair review of a 6 or something.

Anyways one of the best episode so far. Good to see Alicia back. Good to see how these new villains operate.

Underground is the Beginning

Warning: Spoilers
This episode was pretty good. I like how they gave more depth for the side characters in this episode. Especially Wess, which I was surprised that his brother reappeared and gave him some emotional turmoil for his decision to kill him later on. Alicia was also particularly good in this episode, especially the ending with her conversation with Teddy. Overall good episode can't wait to see where this plot line goes.

Final rating: 8.8/10.

Loved this episode
tobyford-768082 May 2021
A great installment into this quality season. I am now comfortable with classifying this season as better than season 3, and we havent even reached the finale yet!

Otherwise was probably the best paced episode so far; every scene led onto the next and it just... flowed naturally.

We finally got some good Alicia scenes (thank god) and the other less interesting characters featured became far more interesting.

9.5/10 and a contender for the best episode this season alongside 1, 4 and 9.

The Holding focuses on world building, great dynamic and incredible performances. Phenomenal episode
Holt3443 May 2021
The Holding is directed by K. C. Colwell and written by Channing Powell. The direction and writing is excellent, it's nice to see that Powell is writing for Fear after having written for TWD since 2013. This episode shows more of what have been teased from previous episodes, The End is the Beginning and so on. World building pays off when done right and I love how the writers and showrunners have done it with this season.

This episode is focused on Alicia Clark which for me who have followed Fear The Walking Dead since the first season debuted, it's nice to see her get some much needed screen time as she is the only one left from the Clark family. I strongly believe that Madison Clark is still alive but for now, Alicia is the last remaining Clark. Alycia Debnam-Carey is phenomenal in this episode, bringing quality acting. A new character gets introduced and it's non other than John Glover that is portraying Teddy, his character is the leader of a cult that got physically introduced in this episode, the settlement have been mentioned before and was the one behind the destruction of Tank Town. Another performance that I was surprised about was Colby as Wes, I have never really liked the character or found him a good actor but I'm glad he got a chance to shine.

Did this episode meet my expectations? Yes but I have to admit that I didn't expect it to be unpredictable but I'm glad it was. There's lots of suspenseful and dramatic moments throughout the episode, scenes that will satisfy every viewer. The writers did a great job with the world building and overall writing with the cult, they made them and their way of thinking believable. The cinematography was perfect. This was a terrific episode, respect for them for giving us a whole episode with world building and almost no action. Dialogue was great!

Really good Wes episode with gripping dialog
ubilstein4 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I really really enjoyed this episode because the dialog was very exciting. I really felt with Wes because I have a brother as well who is extremely important to me. It is such an interesting thought experiment: Imagine finding your long lost brother, only to discover he isnt the person you used to know. This episode has less action, but which I really didnt mind. Im just very suprised that they actually made a good Wes episode. And whats even more suprising with the season overall is that they perfectly tie in the prior seasons. I mean this time they made this bad Season 5 Wes episode work very well as an establishing episode for this one.

Furthermore I like that you worry about Alicia now because you now know that this group is capable of letting to brothers turn on each other.

The only thing I dont like is that Dakota is annoying with her constant "I want to help" after she f'ed up real hard. Noone likes you, you killer.

The menthol within
cjonesas22 August 2021
An average episode with interesting concepts, if they are able to capitalize on it and "glorify" Alicia once and for all. As for the rest of the group, as long as they have Morgan - the Talker, nothing's gonna go wrong.

Great episode

Warning: Spoilers
Very dark episode. After Alicia not killing because of Morgan and the group and it's idea of helping people, Alicia kills a man nastily. Wes is a great character in this episode very sad that he had to put his brother out. The new group seem manipulated by this teddy man who is very well acted so far . Very great episode it's only getting better.

"The Holding" explores the dangers of extremism and the allure of charismatic leaders in times of crisis
fernandoschiavi26 April 2024
Posing as new recruits, Alicia, Althea, Luciana and Wes infiltrate a subterranean settlement called "The Holding", where workers turn walkers into soil to garden and grow food. They notice a mural with "THE END IS THE BEGINNING" message on it. After being greeted by a worker named Riley, they are interrogated to provide information for the group's leader, Teddy. Later, a group of people arrive, including Wes' brother Derek, whom Wes thought had died long ago. Wes tries to get intel from Derek, but Derek claims Wes "isn't ready yet". While Derek is gone, Wes and Althea search Derek's room and find maps of local settlements, including Tank Town and Lawton, as well as whereabouts of Isabelle's group. Wes confronts Derek about why his group is attacking settlements; Derek explains the only way the world can start over is by destroying everything and everyone above ground.

The group tries to escape and take Derek with them, but are caught by Riley, who takes them to an embalming room. He offers to spare their lives if they reveal Morgan's location. They all refuse, but Derek gets Riley's permission to try and show Wes "the truth". Derek takes Wes to a displayed walker, and Wes realizes that Derek knew he was at Tank Town during the attack. A struggle ensues. Wes overpowers Derek and slams him into the walker. The walker bites Derek, killing him. Wes returns to his friends and holds Riley at gunpoint. They flee into a room filled with embalmed walkers; Alicia cuts several open to release the embalming fluid and sets the compound on fire while the others escape back to the dam settlement. Morgan vows to rescue Alicia. Back at The Holding, Alicia meets Teddy, who is upset that she destroyed everything he was working towards, but admits he's been looking for someone like her for a long time.

In the eleventh episode of "Fear the Walking Dead" Season 6, titled "The Holding," the series takes a bold new direction by introducing viewers to a mysterious and enigmatic new group known as "The End is the Beginning." The episode explores themes of cultism, indoctrination, and the search for meaning in a post-apocalyptic world.

The main focus of the episode is on Morgan and Grace's encounter with The End is the Beginning group. The group's leader, Teddy, is a charismatic figure who preaches a message of salvation through destruction, believing that the end of the world is a necessary step towards a new beginning. This cult-like group is a departure from the series' previous antagonists, adding a new layer of complexity to the story.

One of the most memorable scenes in the episode is the introduction of The Holding, the group's underground bunker that serves as their base of operations. The bunker is a stark contrast to the desolate landscape above ground, showcasing the group's dedication to their cause and their willingness to do whatever it takes to survive.

Thematically, "The Holding" explores the dangers of extremism and the allure of charismatic leaders in times of crisis. It raises questions about the nature of belief and the lengths that people will go to in order to find meaning and purpose in a chaotic world.

Overall, "The Holding" is a compelling and thought-provoking episode that sets the stage for an intriguing new chapter in the series. With its exploration of cultism, its complex characters, and its tense atmosphere, it is a standout installment in the sixth season of "Fear the Walking Dead."

Althea's brother
ElvisSavir2 May 2021
You know, since they mentioned some seasons back, that Althea had a brother, some weird situations made me realized that his brother is still alive and at some time they will reveal who is him. In this episode everybody named his brother but she just said: "my brother was my best friend", like it is not yet the time to reveal it.

So, I think Althea is going to be a new connection to TWD, maybe Aaron is her brother, just maybe.

Terrible script
jrippinger3 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The actions of the characters make no sense. Glad to see Alicia back but how see managed to get herself caught again makes zero sense. Seems like lazy writing and direction. Why after she started the fire didn't she just leave by the same door her friends left? Total disappointment.

An underrated actor returns to center stage.
iamchriswalken9 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Love! Valour! Compassion!, Gremlins 2, Smallville... there have been some bright spots in the screen career of John Glover, but I've always felt his talent deserved more. From the moment this episode began with a beautifully delivered voice recording, I knew someone significant was coming to this series in the role of a villain, finally, and spent the episode wondering who it would be. Couldn't be happier with the choice.

What do I mean by finally? I think it's fair to say Fear the Walking Dead has had a track record of lame villains. Let's go down the list.

The national guard

Some Mexican woman

Otto, I guess? He was also kind of nice

Zac Efron hosting a tailgate party in the parking lot

Guy who likes trucks

Girl scout camp councilor

Fear the Walking Dead does not need to be the same show as TWD, so there's no need for a one to one comparison of villains, but it's clear that since its big stars departed, it has been trying to become more like the main series, while failing to provide the threats. No zombies that actually feel dangerous, no villains doing horrible sick things, no sense of dread. People just have it easier, and until recently they even stopped killing off cast members. It was becoming a show about friends doing light problem solving together.

So what do we get with S10E11? A straight up Terminus/Savior situation with John Glover at the head and Nick Stahl in support. To me, this feels like a "finally" situation, and considering how anticlimactic the main series has become with a steep drop in quality, the YA novel style spinoff being a complete waste of time, and a Carol/Daryl series announced right when Carol and Daryl became boring, I'm looking to John Glover to keep this franchise alive, and I think he just might be able to do it if the writers keep up this momentum.

S6.E11 - The Holding [8/10]
panagiotis199310 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
(S6. E11) My Reaction / Review for Fear The Walking Dead Season 6 Episode 11 ''The Holding'': Episode 10 was good and I gave it a rating of 8/10. Let's see if this one is better or worse. So Al, Luciana, Alicia and Wes visit this place where they got food, water etc, interesting. Now I wanna see if they are friendly or psychos. Is that Wes' brother? I wouldnt trust Wes' brother. Ok so these people are psychos, confirmed. Wes killed his own brother? That's brutal. Alicia is back at the holding? That sucks, I hope she is ok. Who is that Teddy guy? He must be a real psycho. The leader seems to be absolutely nuts. Overall a pretty good episode, my rating is 8/10.

Dear Lord, not again....
mihmichael12 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Season 6 started with a few good episodes, the quality jumped compared to (awful) season 5 but - they are back, the worst writers! A group no one knows just takes in 4 strangers, shows them anything and, of course, they are led by crazy people. Ohh, sure, one finds his long lost brother! 😄 And kills him! 🤣 Four people manage to outwit all crazy ones and jam the door with an axe! 😄 And those "scary" crazy people can't just push the axe with a stick! 🤣🤣🤣 In a world where matches are like gold, crazy ones left some in walker's pocket?! 😬 Crazy ones get Alicia, want to embalm her, her they leave one (1, one) guy with her in the room, not even bother to tie her up. 🤣 Sure, she manages to kill him, easy. Then, they leave their leader alone in a room with Alicia - nothing happens. These writers should not be allowed to write ever again.

really cheesy villains
dakotatimess2 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Yeah because villains spitting out "what do you see" every five seconds is "creepy" and "terrifying"

John Glover is awesome but the way they're writing these antagonists is just as bad as the way they wrote Virginia.

I must be missing something
hnt_dnl3 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
As much as I am liking Season 6 overall, there are still some weak episodes and frankly, THE HOLDING is most definitely one of them. I've already read reviews call this the best episode of the season and that has to be a joke, because that honor goes to Things Left to Do, which is also a contender for best of the series. Then there's The Key, The Door, The Premiere, need I go on?

What is it that fans see in this one? Is it because it features Alicia? Well, obviously! Lol What an overrated character. I will never get the adoration for this character. While Alycia Debnam-Carey is a decent actress, she's very mannered in her line delivery and I just don't buy her emotions the way that I bought the emotions of Ofelia or Ginny. But fans of this show are obsessed with this character for some reason. They say she stole this episode from Wes, well of course she did because the actor for his character is terrible. The writers threw in some manufactured family melodrama between Wes and his weird brother (also poorly acted) and I guess I'm supposed to care that Wes had to kill him. I do not, as Wes himself is I character I couldn't care less about.

This episode was so weak with some bad acting, strangeness, and dumb moments. The plot of the episode involves this weird "End is the Beginning" cult in their underground facility.. The cult's operation involves using mutilated dead bodies to grow their food supply. They get spiritual guidance from zombified statue. The showrunners somehow pulled Nick Stahl (John Conner from T3) and John Glover (Lionel Luthor from Smallville) out from under what rock they were living to be in this episode and they are both basically just playing more exaggerated versions of their iconic characters. In addition to the overrated Alicia and the dull Wes, the episode also "features" the mumbling Al and the unintelligible Luciana. This quartet collectively has all the personality of a snail.

The climax was so ridiculous. Why were they so slow to move through the zombies when their lips were sewn shut? How could Al think that zombie was her girlfriend when this lady was way shorter and smaller than her? Why was Alicia just standing there looking "badass" when she could have just started running towards the back door with the rest of the group? They ALL could have easily gotten away, but instead wasted time bickering and taking their sweet time escaping just so Alicia could get stuck there in the end and the writers would have an excuse to "develop" her character more than they already have, which is basically starting from scratch as she's been irrelevant to this show for going on 6 seasons. And finally, why did Nick Stahl just leave Alicia there with embalming guy without searching her for weapons?

In addition to this one, I also thought that 6x02 as well as 6x03 were pretty weak episodes. Season 6 is turning out to be one of the best seasons for sure, but it's really on the strength of specific episodes focused on characters played by actors who can actually act. This is most definitely not one of them.

nobody cares because they blew their final chance.
Rob-O-Cop9 May 2021
It doesn't really matter that this episode is a continuation of the nonsensical, intelligence insulting, mcguffin filled and excessive plot armored scripted show we've all come to not care about any more. No one cares because they've burnt their last of many many 'one last chances' to maintain and grow their audience.

It's over and we feel sorry for you, (but happy that the 20 or so paid promotions people are still cutting a cheque to pretend this show has any legs or audience to be conned).

No Body Cares.

It's over, You blew it.

Please stop.

You're hurting everyone.
