James Cullen Bressack (“Fortress”) is adapting the play “Murder, Anyone?” into a feature film, Variety can exclusively reveal.
“Muder, Anyone?” was originally written by Bressack’s father, Emmy Award-winning “Pinky and the Brain” writer Gordon Bressack. The play first premiered at the White Fire Theatre in Los Angeles in 2017.
Gordon Bressack, who worked on dozens of beloved animated shows including “Animaniacs” and “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” died in 2019.
Now his son will direct and produce a feature film adaptation, in part to “bring attention to his work,” Bressack tells Variety.
Spencer Breslin (“The Happening”) and Kristos Andrews (“The Bay”) are set to star in the film, a faithful adaptation of Bressack Sr.’s show about two playwrights tasked with creating a new “avant-garde, surrealistic, mind-bending neo-noire thriller” who find their story coming to life as they write.
Breslin and Andrews are joined by Galadriel Stineman (“The Is Us”), Maurice Lamarche (“Animaniacs”), Charles M.

Zoe Bell has proven that she’s up to the challenge of getting her hands dirty in films like Raze, Bitch Slap, and her career igniting role in Death Proof. Her physicality is without question. She more than holds her own in Camino as she rumbles in the jungle with a bunch of Columbian thugs. There’s a stark realism to her maneuvers, punches, and kicks, but the stunt woman turned actress from New Zealand doesn’t quite have the strength to carry this 70’s and 80’s throwback action film. Camino suffers from a case of being both monotonous and feeling like a film you’ve seen done better before.
Avery Taggert (Zoe Bell) is an award-winning photojournalist. Her new assignment is to venture into the jungles of Colombia and document a group of religious freedom fighters led by Fantastic Fest mainstay and all-around wild man Nacho Vigalondo – an inspired bit of casting.

The Sharktopus is back in Sharktopus vs. Pteracuda. SyFy airs this creature brawl on August 2nd and it's rolling out a variety of teasers with the latest being a snippet called "Bitch Slap." I've lost track as to who the audience is out there for these films that feature veteran actors and horrendous CGI, but they keep cranking them out - especially at Roger Corman's company. Sharktopus attracted 2.5 million viewers. Will this "versus" effort do the same or has the novelty of "let's tune in for creature feature trash" slipped away thanks to the overexposure of Sharknado?

Nobody talks more smack about black people than other black people.
There are about a zillion different ways black people describe another black person screwing up. Many of these definitions are stereotypes that would get a non-black person pimp slapped if spoken.
Not being black and telling someone who is that their watch is set to C.P. time or that Obama is the H.N.I.C will surly produce at least a “you looking to get your ass kicked” stare but more than likely a pimp or a bitch slap.
No.
No, I’m not going to tell you what C.P. time is nor what H.N.I.C means or the difference between a pimp and a bitch slap. The “you looking to get your ass kicked” stare is unmistakable, so much so, Helen Keller would get it.
If you don’t know these things, you’re clearly not black.

Tiff’s Midnight Madness program turned 25 this year, and for two and half decades, the hardworking programers have gathered some of the strangest, most terrifying, wild, intriguing and downright entertaining films from around the world. From dark comedies to Japanese gore-fests and indie horror gems, the Midnight Madness program hasn’t lost its edge as one the leading showcases of genre cinema. In its 25-year history, Midnight Madness has introduced adventurous late-night moviegoers to such cult faves as Richard Linklater’s Dazed and Confused and Quentin Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs. But what separates Midnight Madness from, say, Montreal’s three and half week long genre festival Fantasia, is that Tiff selects only ten films to make the cut. In other words, these programmers don’t mess around. Last week I decided that I would post reviews of my personal favourite films that screened in past years. And just like the Tiff programmers,...

Listen, I don’t hide the fact that I’m a James Wan fanatic. I’m very upfront about it. Aside from Dead Silence (which I refuse to speak about to this day), Wan’s biggest “misfire” has been Death Sentence, and I still freakin’ loved it, so just understand that before you read my review of Insidious: Chapter 2. It’s not like I have a shrine in my closet filled with pictures, candles, and a locket of his hair, but in the way people worship Quentin Tarantino, my horror director crush is turning out to be James Wan.
With that said, Insidious fans should start thanking Mr. Wan already, because Insidious: Chapter 2 is a rare breed of sequel that surpasses the original in almost every sense. I loved Insidious, don’t get me wrong, but collaborator Leigh Whannell and James Wan took what was originally a admirably creepy ghost story,...

I saw the original 9-minute short for “Project Sera” when Benjamin Howdeshell premiered it online in 2012. It’s essentially a zombie short with some cool visuals. Howdeshell has now teamed up with IGN to bring you a six-episode original web-series (about 7-8 minutes each) based on that short, starring the short’s original star, Julia Voth (of “Bitch Slap” fame). I’m not sure where they’re going to go with this series — a planned feature length film, perhaps? That actually wouldn’t be a bad idea. Voth, besides being completely gorgeous, is really, really good in the asskicking role. Check out the first three episodes for the web series “Project Sera” below. New episodes will be released every Wednesday to their YouTube Channel. Project: S.E.R.A. follows Gillian Eames (Julia Voth) and Lt. In one of my first recaps for this season of Project Runway, I mentioned how one of my favorite characters in the show is New York City herself. This week’s challenge is a brilliant example of this, as the designers, after their normal morning moan and groan montage, are led to Radio City Music Hall where a line of sparkly, smiley Rockettes are waiting for them. The Rockettes, bitches! You’ve never seen so many perfectly synchronized flashing white legs! It’s amazing! They are always amazing! Sonjia is also wearing a huge red turban thing on her head and it is also amazing!

"Bawk!"
This episode was one of the more entertaining of the season, thanks to a challenging challenge and the fact that so many designs were hilariously hideous.
The designers are brought to Radio City Music Hall, where their challenge is unveiled. They have to design a new costume for The Rockettes (or as Dmitry puts is, "The Rickets," which of course is a painful childhood disease, and something I can totally see Dmitry overcoming, Forrest Gump style, on his way to triumphing as a teenage ballroom dancer.)
Below you can see a hot bonus vid of the designers getting a Rickets dance lesson.
It's clear from the get-go that this challenge is going to completely befuddle some of the designers, most notably Elena, who creates a baffling Wonder-Woman-Baton-Twirler creation that may be one of the ugliest things we've seen on Project Runway.
Tim is underwhelmed by most of the designs.

Although it might seem a bit ridiculous to make a direct comparison between The Avengers and The Expendables, it's pretty clear that the main draw for both is an all-star line-up of action heroes never before seen on screen together. Both movies also feature casts that are almost entirely male. While that's probably to be expected, particularly for a throwback like The Expendables, lately we've seen quite a few women throw down the gauntlet in action movies of their own. So why can't the ladies have their own all-star action flick? As it turns out, a female take on The Expendables is currently in the works and could be hitting theatres sooner than you think. According to Variety, producer Adi Shankar (The Grey, Dredd 3D) is working with a production company called 1984 Private Defense Contractors to set up an "all-female riff on the star-studded action franchise." Stallone is not involved...

Adi Shankar (producer of The Grey) will produce a new all-female action-style film, to be written by Dutch Southern, kinda like The Expendables.
Now, we wrote about how this was a fucking good idea a long-ass time ago. Not only have we been excited about it in our forums, but we actually made a list a while back. The impetus for that list was a statement Sigourney Weaver made about how it sucks that she's too old to play Ripley in another action Aliens film. We were pissed that Old Dudes get to keep making action films, but Weaver didn't think she could just because she's a chick.
Let's update our wish list. Because all the dudes in The Expendables films are Old Mother Fuckers, I demand that the female cast be Old Bitches. None of this "Zoe Saldana" or "Milla Jovovich" bullshit other sites keep talking about. Seriously. Can...

Festival initiative “U.S. in Progress” introduces four U.S. productions in post-production to European buyers.
American Independent films, French Independent Films and Oscar Nominated Foreign Language Films will be showcased.
The Weinstein Company’s Harvey Weinstein wil receive a tribute and will host a retrospective of his films.
Donald Sutherland will host a screening of Klute and will receive a Medal of Arts and Letters bestowed by Frederic Mitterrand.
The Champs Elysees Film Festival’s U.S. President is Michael Madsen
The French Festival President is Lambert Wilson
The discussions held so often about the sustainability of arthouse theaters, about the joining of forces between them and festivals and the ownership of festivals themselves, and sometimes of theaters as well, by distributors as a way to sustain the three key players of this precious triangle of culture, continue as the first Champs Elysees Film Festival presents a jam-packed line up and full program of events at its inaugural edition.
The seven day festival, June 6-12, has been formed and is owned by the independent distributor Sophie Dulac. It is exciting for me to go to see the arthouses we have already written about in the area of the Champs Elysees - the Balzac, its rival the Lincoln, the Publicis, and the two major chains, Gaumont Champs Elysees and Ugc George V. Another interesting aspect of this upcoming event is the festival's ownership by a French distributor, Sophie Dulac. This is one of two similarities between Gutek and Dulac. The New Horizons and the American Film Festivals are owned by Roman Gutek whose distribution company Gutek is the largest arthouse distributor in Poland. Similarly Sophie Dulac seems to "own" this festival. Somewhat analagous to this is the "owning" of distribution company Tribeca Films by the Tribeca Film Festival or the Sundance Select Distribution arm owned by the Sundance Film Festival. The New York Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festivals have yet to declare themselves distributors but do own the arthouses in which to show "their" films year round in festival settings.
Dulac explains the impetus to launch the Champs Elysees Film Festival, “As Paris’ first truly international film festival, our mission is to create a bridge between the independent American and French film industries. In the most beautiful city in the world and one with a worldwide association to cinema, the Champs Elysées Film Festival will be a celebration of film promoting the work of young filmmakers and honoring the work of established directors.” She adds, “We want to throw a spotlight on independent film from France and the U.S. We will welcome famous names, offer new films, open up discussions between members of the film industry, give short films a special showcase and invite audiences to gala previews.”
I personally hope the tourists of Champs Elysees see this as a special opportunity to share inside festival experiences with international professionals and that it brings in more business than ordinary theatrical fare brings to the same theaters, thus proving that festivals serve as a new branch of film distribution and that the joining of forces between distributor, exhibitor and festival point toward a new mode of profitability for all parties.
U.S. in Progress was first presented at the American Film Festival in Wroclaw Poland in November. This is the second similarity between Dulac and Gutek. U.S. in Progress will now be here as well. U.S. in Progress is in fact a joint initiative between the American Film Festival in Wroclaw, the Champs Elysees Film Festival in Paris and Black Rabbit Film, a company of Adeline Monzier who also created the association of European indie distributors called EuropaDistribution. It is the first and only industry event devoted to U.S. indies in Europe. Its aim is to present U.S. indie films in post-production to European buyers in order to foster the circulation and distribution of American indie films in Europe. This presentation of American independent films in post-production to European buyers to promote the distribution of American independent films in Europe is uniquely one of the top new developments in the industry. The program works to forge inroads between the generation of talented American filmmakers emerging today and European buyers. I am so proud to be serving on its jury as I did on the first edition as well.
The other sections are: Official Selection of American Independent Films, French Galas, American Galas, Oscar Nominated Foreign Language Films and Shorts. A tribute to Harvey Weinstein will be presented on June 6 at an event to celebrate his career. Weinstein will participate in a roundtable conversation to discuss French/American co-productions and a Retrospective of 11 of his films will be shown throughout the week.
The American independent films selected as part of the inaugural program include Richard Linklater’s Bernie (Isa: Hyde Park, U.S.: Millennium) with Jack Black, Shirley Maclaine and Matthew McConaughey; Jesus Henry Christ (Isa: Im Global, U.S. E1) with Toni Collette and Michael Sheen; Bruce Beresford’s Peace, Love & Misunderstanding (Isa: Voltage, U.S. IFC) starring Jane Fonda, Catherine Keener and Elizabeth Olsen and Marina Abramovic: The Artist is Present (Isa: Submarine, U.S. Music Box). An Audience Award will be given out to the most popular American Independent. American Galas include Jennifer Westfeldt’s Friends with Kids (Isa: Red Granite, U.S. Roadside Attractions/ Lionsgate) and Wes Craven’s My Soul to Take (2010) in 3D.
French films include Comme Un Homme (Isa: Memento) directed by Safy Nebbou; Journal de France (Isa: Wild Bunch) directed by Claudine Nougaret and Raymond Depardon; Vous n'avez encore rien vu (Isa: Studiocanal) directed by Alain Resnais and Wrong (Isa: Kinology) helmed by Quentin Dupieux.
The Champs Elysees Film Festival has selected esteemed French Actor Lambert Wilson for the role of French President and Michael Madsen has accepted the role of the Festival’s U.S. President.
The festival will pay tribute to the actor Donald Sutherland who will be at the Festival to host a screening of the masterpiece Klute directed by Alan J. Pakula followed by a “Hollywood Conversation” with the iconic actor. Frederic Mitterrand will bestow Sutherland with the medal of Commander of Arts and Letters that evening.

When it comes to making zombies, it always seems so much worse when mindless raving berserkers are created by government tomfoolery. Project: S.E.R.A. doesn't feature zombies in the traditional sense, but this version of the undead monster could be worse.
Written and directed by Benjamin Howdeshell, Project: S.E.R.A. stars Julia Voth (Jill Valentine from the Resident Evil video games, Bitch Slap), Victor Webster (Scorpion King III, Mutant X) and Dennis Keiffer (stunt actor from GI Joe, Superman, Green Hornet) interwoven into some back alley dealings that have a decorated United States general being treated less than regally and eventually zombified.
The film is shot beautifully with some great action and kick-ass F/X work. For more info be sure to "like" Project: S.E.R.A. on Facebook and follow @ProjectSera on Twitter. Check it out!

The fact that star Julia Voth (one of the three lovely ladies of “Bitch Slap”) looks like one of the gun-happy ladies of the “Resident Evil” movie franchise on the film’s poster sure doesn’t hurt. Or was that the point? (Also, Voth has previously provided the voice of Jill Valentine in the 2002 “Resident Evil” game, so there’s that, too.) But don’t let that stop you from enjoying Ben Howdeshell’s 10-minute short film “Project Sera”, which features one of those fast-moving “infected” zombies that are so popular nowadays. The idea, apparently, is to make the short film, gin up some interest, and turn it into a feature-length movie. A young woman wakes up in an abandoned warehouse as armed soldiers torture her father with an experimental biological weapon. Besides Voth,...

Julia Voth may be one of the best-kept secrets in geekdom today. But after watching the fetching actress play Jill Valentine in the Resident Evil video games and deliver a fun, sexy performance in the recent grindhouse-style free-for-all Bitch Slap, I'd happily pay money just to watch Voth read the phone book. Fortunately, the new short film Project: S.E.R.A. has her doing a lot more than that, and you can watch it now -- right after the jump. Written and directed by Benjamin Howdeshell, Project: S.E.R.A. stars Julia Voth, Victor Webster (Scorpion King III, Mutant X), and Dennis Keiffer (stunt actor in G.I. Joe, Superman, Green Hornet). And it certainly looks as good as most of today's action features. So...

Franck Khalfoun's ('P2') new 'Maniac' reboot will hopefully see Elijah Wood ('Happy Feet 2') return to his maniacal best much like he attempted as Kevin the cannibal in Robert Rodriguez's 'Sin City'. Wood plays stab-happy psychopath Frank in the remake based on William Lustig's 1980's slasher flick. And now the delectable America Olivo ('Bitch Slap', 'No One Lives') has signed up to play Frank's abusive dead mother, who will apear to Wood's character in the form of hallucinations. Gorgeous actress Olivo (below) appeared on the cover of Playboy on the June 2009 issue. The remake comes from a script penned by Gregory Levasseur and Alexandre Aja ('Mirrors' and 'Piranha 3D'). Nora Arnezeder ('Safe House'), Hank Azaria ('Run Fatboy Run') and Sal Landi all co-star. Check out the plot synopsis for the reboot below.

According to the unreliable IMDb, the incredibly sexy America Olivo (Friday the 13th, Bitch Slap) will play the mother of Frank (Elijah Wood) in Franck Khalfoun's now-filming remake of the 1980's classic Maniac. They also report that Morgane Slemp, Sal Landi, Dan Hunter, Freedom, Délé Ogundiran, Steffinnie Phrommany and Joshua De La Garza will also star alongside previously announced Nora Arnezeder and Genevieve Alexandra. Produced by Alex Aja, "Wood plays the role of a serial killer who works at a shop that sells antique mannequins. In his twisted mind, he gains a measure of revenge against his mother with each kill."...
