Still not the old NCIS
ak202022 March 2020
After some awful episodes this one is a slight imptovement - but not much.

Others have pointed out the obvious Geography errors (regarding the North Carolina Beach) - which I even as a Brit spotted: the shadows showed the Sun was north, if it was filmed in North Carolina. Clearly, it had to have been filmed on the West Coast of the USA.

Also, I am afraid that there were some holes in the plot, mentioned in the Goofs section of the User reviews.

Still, it was a bit more exciting than the last two episodes - it is entertainment after all.

But, i cannot lose the feeling that the producers and writers have lost their way in this series.

Can we please have less soap-opera and more investigation

While better than the cringe-worthy Ziva episodes, this was far from Good. Seems like the show has completely lost its focus and purpose. We could have removed the stupid McGee sub-plot and greatly improved the episode. I'm beginning to thing that technology has out-paced the writers. They are increasingly clueless and putting together more and more idiocy to cover their tracks. And in this episode, they display utter ineptitude in all matters related to the military. Given that this show is focused on the Navy, being inept with military functions is inexcusable.

Poorly Put Together Plot

They could have done so much better. In recent years, the show has developed the habit of ignoring the normal limitations of space and time. NCIS moves back and forth from a carrier at sea in hours. The carrier moves from sea to dock in hours. They use tide charts to locate where wreckage would come on shore and nail it. A broken sand fence told them exactly where to look. In my experience, all sand fences have broken sections. Half hour of thought could have fixed these without affecting the plot. Too bad.

Flight Plan

Warning: Spoilers
The McGee subplot was cringeworthy and unnecessary, but the actual case this week was interesting. So, it balances out to a fair 6/10 grade.

A pretty average one!

Warning: Spoilers
"Flight Plan" is definitely not a bad episode, it is just not very impressive.

Let's start with the good aspects.

. The production values of the episode are great as usual. "Flight Plan" is well-directed, the music adds to the scenery and the acting's very good.

. The mystery is at times engaging, the setup for the story is decent.

But...

. The case is something we have seen in "NCIS" many times before. Some of the twists are predictable and the motive for the murders (jealousy) is an old hat. The subplot about Mcgee is agreed not very funny or interesting.

Overall, an okay episode.

5/10 HK.

Almost there...

Warning: Spoilers
The ridiculous plot of the pilot running and crashing the plane and so on really takes away from the great show. The twist at the end was really good but we are not quite back to the old NCIS who done it style shows. They have some of these episodes that are great who done its however they have to many that are far away.
