HBO has narrowed down the premiere date of The White Lotus Season 2.
According to Variety, the premium cabler will allow viewers to check back into the show's satire-filled world in October.
Variety first revealed the news, but we don't have a confirmed date in October.
If we had to guess, we'd say it will arrive later in the month, after House of the Dragon wraps its freshman season.
The new series will be set in Sicily, with Jennifer Coolidge returning in her widely praised Tayna role.
She was the heart of the freshman season, which told a compelling murder mystery.
Jon Gries, who played Greg, a guest who fell for Tanya in the first season, will also be back.
Theo James and Meaghan Fahy are set to play married couple Cameron and Daphne Babcock.

Exclusive: A limited scripted series exploring the rise and fall of Liberty University President Jerry Falwell Jr is in the works.
Lionsgate Television has optioned Gabriel Sherman’s Vanity Fair article on Falwell Jr with the journalist and The Loudest Voice in the Room author adapting and exec producing his story with Michael London and Shannon Gaulding of Snowfall producer Groundswell Productions.
The article, which was published last month, tells the story of the Trump-anointing dark prince of the Christian right who was brought down by a sex scandal. He resigned in disgrace from Liberty in August 2020 after it emerged that a former Miami pool boy claimed he had been having a seven year affair with Falwell Jr.’s wife Becki and Falwell often liked to watch them have sex.

The breakout anthology series is quickly filling out its room ahead of the new season.

They join previous announced cast members Michael Imperiolo and Aubrey Plaza, as well as returning freshman season scene-stealer Jennifer Coolidge.

The failure of Disney’s adaptation of Artemis Fowl came from the movie’s decision to not trust the audience to handle the original premise.
“Making an adaptation of a popular book series is hard. Changes are necessary, and you can’t always do everything that was in the books. I get that. Yet, when a company spends money on the rights for a book series, you would assume that they believe in the premise of the book—that they want to adapt at least 75-80% of the book, not ‘Let’s just make an entirely new movie and just slap a familiar title on it.’ Sadly, that is exactly what Disney did in their adaptation of Artemis Fowl.”

In today’s film news roundup, the documentary “You Cannot Kill David Arquette” and the thriller “Broil” find homes and AFI unveils winners of its Writers’ Room Ready Awards.
Acquisitions
Super Ltd, Neon’s boutique division, has acquired North American rights to David Darg and Price James’ documentary, “You Cannot Kill David Arquette,” which is an official selection of the 2020 SXSW Film Festival.
Filmed over three years chronicling the journey through Arquette’s life and stint in wrestling, the film had its debut in early March at Arquette’s California home 24 hours after hearing about the SXSW cancellation, surrounded by friends, family and a homemade wrestling ring.
Arquette starred as a wrestling-obsessed fan in the 2000 movie “Ready to Rumble” and was crowned world champion as a marketing stunt, making him the most hated man in professional wrestling as a result. In “You Cannot Kill David Arquette,” Arquette seeks redemption by...

If you were hoping to see Quentin Coldwater one last time before The Magicians wrapped up its run this past Wednesday, then you were, sadly, out of luck.
Given that the Syfy series is a fantasy drama, it’s not out of the realm of possibility to imagine a scenario in which the dearly departed character (played by former series regular Jason Ralph) could have somehow made an appearance despite his demise. But co-showrunner John McNamara tells TVLine there was no talk of bringing back Q during the farewell run, “because death has to be real, even on a fantasy show.

Warning: The following contains major spoilers for The Magicians’ series finale. Proceed at your own risk!
The Magicians cast its final spell during Wednesday’s series finale, and it was a doozy: Using the world seed, Alice, Margo, Josh and Fen were able to create Fillory 2.0 (complete with a field of bacon!). But there was a complication: The quartet were unwillingly transported to the new land, with no way of returning, leaving their friends back home confused by their mysterious vanishing. Having lost the people nearest to him, Eliot became a professor at Brakebills — and found comfort in Charlton’s kiss!

The Magicians Season 5 Episode 13
There was no way that The Magicians was going to be able to wrap up its five year run without displeasing fans simply by ending, but “Fillory and Further” provided a surprising amount of closure and a happier conclusion than we’re used to with this show. Compared to the death and dismemberment at the end of season one, the turning off of magic in season two, Eliot being possessed in season three, or the death of Quentin in season four, the separation of our group between Earth and the new world is downright hopeful as finales go. Even the loose threads that remain brilliantly allow for fans to draw their own conclusions about where the adventure would go from here.

The Magicians Season 5 Episode 12
The Magicians should be applauded for its commitment to including a musical episode each season, and the fact that “The Balls” comes just before the end of the series makes this one particularly poignant. In that sense, centering the songs around emotions, bottled or otherwise, was an appropriate choice. However, combining the musical elements with a heist, another tried and true narrative in this show, may have had a diluting effect on both fan favorite formats rather than doubling the enhancement. Nevertheless, with the world seed in hand (or in… you know), the finale is bound to be legitimately world changing.
The setup for the heist was, as usual, a high point of the episode. The Magicians is good at making sure everyone has something to contribute. Here, for example, we had Marina describing her failed attempt at stealing the...

The Magicians turns in a messy but fun episode that drops a few compelling bombshells during a more chaotic than usual narrative.

The Magicians Season 5 Episode 4
The Magicians doesn’t do anything halfway, but unfortunately that principle also applies to its missteps, of which “Magicians Anonymous” is one. Where the series is usually able to weave together disparate storylines to create a cohesive thematic tapestry, this episode felt oddly disjointed. It was almost as if the narrative itself was akin to the brown bunny in the Etheric Realm, jumping from story to story with dizzying disorientation while admittedly charming us along the way. The installment was redeemed somewhat by significant insights into the apocalypse problem, Penny’s mysterious signal, and the troubles in Fillory, but fans are used to cleaner storytelling in this show.
That’s not to say it wasn’t a fun ride,...

The Magicians Season 5 Episode 3
For an episode that didn’t actually push the story forward very much, “The Mountain of Ghosts” sure did deliver plenty of compelling action and emotional dialogue. Eliot and Alice may have marked time by doing some proper grieving, but they still met the Dark King in the end. Margo had a troubled reunion with Josh and Fen, but presumably her banishment marks have been removed. And Penny and Julia got nowhere but were presented with confirmation of an upcoming apocalyptic surge. Incremental progress isn’t a bad thing in this show because the characters themselves can carry the show just by experiencing shit; it’s the magic of The Magicians.

Did he send the letter?
That has got to be the question on fans' minds after The Magicians Season 5 Episode 2: Did Eliot send Quentin that letter?
It's such a cruel cliffhanger to end on, but it sure has the added bonus of ensuring viewers will tune in for the next episode.
Margo may have been focused on trying to save Josh, Fen, and her kingdom, but Eliot's drive to go back in time had more to do with his desire to save Quentin.
Quentin is a man Eliot loved but never got to tell; he never even got the chance to say good-bye. If you had the opportunity to go back and saved a loved one, wouldn't you?
Eliot: So what do you say? Wanna go back in time, save my friends, and unfuck history for old time’s sack?
Jane: If I change anything, it could undo every...

The friends Quentin leaves behind might just have to do something crazy to get through their grief.
The following story contains spoilers for The Magicians Season 4 and Season 5 Episode 1.
The impact of a fictional character death doesn’t just play out on screen. Fans who make an investment in a TV show can find themselves grieving the loss of a favorite character in a way they never expected—through emotions that mirror how we mourn in real life. A recent Popular Science article notes that professional counselors consider this legitimate grief, and marketing studies found that people “not only form relationships with their favorite characters, but with the real-life humans they watched the series alongside or went to all the movies with.” This takes on new meaning in an age where people can find a home for whatever their fandom is in an instant online. It gives viewers a place to remember,...

Magic is no longer rationed in the world of The Magicians. And that’s not necessarily a good thing.
Magic is flowing freely once again at Brakebills, in Fillory, and beyond. To override the Library’s strict system of rationing, it took our heroes a full season of quests, popped-out fairy eyeballs, sidekicks rising to the occasion, a hedgewitch alliance, personal growth, fearless sacrifice, and Josh’s muffins. That only accounts for about an eighth of what happened during The Magicians season 4, the show’s fantastically sprawling, thematically ambitious, and most controversial season yet. For those compelled to recap the whole adventure, I’d advise swiping Dean Fogg’s emergency bottle of booze first. You’ll need it.
With The Magicians season 5 premiering on Jan 15th on Syfy, the full restoration of magic has some unintended consequences as the characters simultaneously begin a painful healing process after...

Okay, let's just lay this out there right now. The Magicians Season 4 Episode 7 is the episode that I never knew that I needed.
I have always considered The Magicians an ensemble show, but "The Side Effect" takes those characters that don't get a lot of play and puts them front and center.
The set-up is quite perfect. Reconnecting with Underworld Penny right now feels perfect after seeing The Magicians Season 4 Episode 6. After giving Penny-23 the okay to live in his timeline, it's hard to imagine what Penny would be doing, especially since he seemed so determined to find a way out last season.
Seeing him in a role that he's enjoying and in which he's thriving feels like a great nod to this version of a character in which we are so invested. Arjun Gupta delivers all of his monologues seamlessly and without being preachy. It's clear that Penny has an agenda,...

Before season 4 even started airing, Syfy has given the green light to The Magicians season 5, assuring fans of more magical mayhem.
Fans won't have to wonder whether The Magicians season 5 is in their future when the fourth season begins airing this week. The series has already been renewed by Syfy! The Magicians has been a force of nature from the very start, growing its audience each season and weaving a tale that bridged our world with the storybook land of Fillory and has become more and more complex ever since. Given its massive appeal, including our glowing reviews over the years, the renewal comes as little surprise.
Bill McGoldrick, president of scripted content at NBCUniversal, which owns Syfy, agreed with this assessment. "The Magicians raised the bar at Syfy and has gained momentum season after season, attracting a new audience to the channel. We are proud of...

There’s no need to wait until tomorrow for some The Magicians goodness: Syfy today renewed the magical drama for Season 5, ahead of show’s Season 4 return on Wednesday, Jan. 23 (at 9/8c).
Additionally, executive producer Henry Alonso Myers has been promoted to co-showrunner alongside John McNamara and Sera Gamble for Season 5.
“We couldn’t be happier or more excited to conjure another year of magic and all it entails — love, hate, loyalty, betrayal, sex, foul language, drugs, battling gods, monsters and the most dangerous enemies of all: other human beings,” McNamara and Gamble said in a statement. “We have the best writers,...

Changes are afoot on Syfy's The Magicians.
The Magicians Season 3 ended with Dean Fogg's decision gave his students no memories and magic-free identities, allowing them to take on normal lives.
In the first teaser for The Magicians Season 4, fresh from New York Comic-Con, Margo is taking on the role of a fashion editor named Janet.
It seems very Once Upon a Time ... almost like the characters have been cursed.
Margo gets a visit from the God Ember and it makes her question everything.
Will she be the one that brings her friends back together, or will something more sinister do the trick?
"Even with their new identities, our core group is far from safe since, inside Castle Blackspire, an ancient, powerful and unkillable Monster escaped confinement and jumped bodies to a new host, Eliot," reads the official synopsis.
"The season ended with The Monster finding a mind-wiped Quentin,...

The Magicians third season is easily the Syfy series best yet. With much of the drama focused on a key quest designed to bring magic back, characters from Brakebills to Fillory have had to lean on each other in new, exciting and more complicated ways.
That includes Fen, the native Fillorian promised to High King Eliot since she was a child. Starting her arc as a somewhat hapless and "unworldly" rural Fillorian, Fen ultimately played key roles in helping the children of Earth attempt to right their wrongs.
Delivered each week to audiences with heart and moxie by actress Brittany Curran, Fen has seen a rather grand transformation across this very soon to be completed 13-episode season.
From seducing her half-interested husband in a foggy haze, attempting to build a family, and acquainting herself with emojis to a secret history of Fillorian resistance fighting, losing her child (and toes) to bad deals,...

The Brakebills crew runs into an old friend and proves that no one gets left behind on The Magicians Season 3 Episode 9.
Before we dive into any other part of this week’s episode, I have to give this show props for acknowledging some narrative shortcomings. In fact, I want to applaud The Magicians willingness to do this so consistently, as it has become easily one of my top three favorite things about the show.
Plot holes shouldn’t happen, but when you’re dealing with big worlds and big casts, they do. As viewers we mostly expect the show to address them and understandably get disappointed when they don’t. Don’t start a plot you can’t finish is a big rule for me.
But The Magicians has offered another way to deal with plot holes beyond quietly taking audience ire when you don’t: build them into your plot.

Syfy has given The Magicians season 4 the go-ahead, assuring fans that there's more magic to come...
With fans eager for more adventures at Brakebills, in Fillory, and beyond, Syfy's recent renewal announcement guarantees that The Magicians season 4 will be a reality. Coming just past the halfway mark of season 3, the news is neither surprising nor expected quite this early, but audience reception has always been overwhelmingly positive for this quirky, funny, sometimes dark fantasy. The series has been Syfy’s top performing scripted original among the key 18-49 demographic for the past three years.
Based on the best-selling novels by Lev Grossman, The Magicians centres on Quentin Coldwater (Jason Ralph) and his 20-something friends as they discover their magical abilities and ward off evil creatures who threaten to destroy the magical world they’ve come to know. In season 3, our core group embarks on the epic quest...

The Magicians season 4 has returned and so has magic (sort of), and we've got the latest trailer, links to reviews, and more news.
The Magicians season 4 has returned! In the season three finale of The Magicians, magic was finally restored by unlocking the fountain at the other end of the Wellspring, but the Library, Irene McAllistair and Dean Fogg swooped in to reroute magic to themselves. In exchange, Dean Fogg negotiated the lives of his students, erasing their memories and giving each – except Alice who is now imprisoned by the Library – a new, magic-free identity.
Even with their new identities, however the core group is far from safe since inside Castle Blackspire, an ancient, powerful and unkillable Monster escaped confinement and jumped bodies to a new host, Eliot. The season ended with The Monster finding a mind-wiped Quentin, and The Magicians season 4 will pick up with The Monster seeking out the others,...

The stakes get bigger and the plot lines thicker during The Magicians Season 3 Episode 7.
There have been quite a few recent episodes that I have felt exemplified the strength(s) of The Magicians. But this latest installment is perhaps one of the best at showing how far this series has come (and is ahead of others shows) in terms of developing a story.
As I’ve said before, juggling a large lead ensemble, multiple worlds and a handful of both tangible and intangible threats is an incredibly hard thing to do. It’s even harder to do cohesively.
Still, even harder to do while keeping us all thoroughly entertained. But in case you missed it, “Poached Eggs” has done it. The episode felt, action-wise, like what a midseason climax should be.
I don’t think there was a single moment when I felt like a plot wasn’t being addressed,...

The Magicians might need a (temporary) new title after Wednesday’s Season 2 finale.
RelatedThe Magicians Renewed for Season 3
After Quentin and Julia killed the capricious god Ember, who planned on destroying all of Fillory, the old gods sought retribution by turning off magic. Following a two-month time jump, a small group of Brakebills students, Quentin and Alice included, were left to study magic theoretically in the hopes of its eventual return. But not everyone lost their abilities: Julia revealed a small spark of something magical to her pal Q.

In one of the most twisted episodes of Scandal to date, Thursday’s episode sent Cyrus to hell (and prison) and back — but he’s not out of the woods just yet.
RelatedGrey’s Anatomy, Scandal and Htgawm Renewed for 2017-18 Season
Though the pseudo-bottle episode ended with an incarcerated Tom recanting his story to Cyrus (as another prisoner strangled a nearby guard to death with his own damn belt), Jeff Perry is quick to remind TVLine that not everyone was privy to that admission: “He still needs to survive the legal system. We haven’t seen him sprung just yet.

Warning: The following contains spoilers for Wednesday’s The Magicians.
Well, that was wicked.
During Wednesday night’s The Magicians, Alice powered up to fight The Beast, performing a spell so big that it killed her and turned her into a magic-consumed niffin.
RelatedThe Magicians Bosses Talk ‘Major’ Deaths and Musical Numbers
“I did it on purpose,” niffin Alice confessed to The Beast before destroying him. Then she turned on her friends, forcing ex Quentin to unleash his cacodemon in order to stop her. All that was left after the attack was a lifeless Alice lying on the ground as Quentin cried over her.

Season 2 of Syfy’s The Magicians — premiering this Wednesday at 9/8c — is serving up plenty of monsters, monarchs and… musicals?
VideosThe Magicians Season 2 Trailer
“We have one or two massive musical numbers over the course of the season, largely because [executive producer] John McNamara’s writing the show, and that’s kind of his thing,” Ep Sera Gamble tells TVLine as McNamara laughs.
But it’s not all joyous singing and dancing in the new episodes. “I can say that major characters will die this season,” Gamble reveals. “So we have fun, but it’s also very serious at times.”
