Not many would consider it hard labor to stand in the shadow of Jennifer Lopez. Few, perhaps, could stand as still and as long as documentary filmmaker Jason Bergh.
For nearly a decade, Bergh has recorded the multi-hyphenate star behind the scenes as she has charted new paths as a content producer and beauty mogul, and danced her way onto America’s biggest stage — the Super Bowl Halftime Show. Last month, Bergh took his loftiest seat at J. Lo, Inc. by serving as director for “The Greatest Love Story Never Told,” a much-discussed documentary about the making of Lopez’s 2024 visual album “This Is Me … Now.”
Imposingly tall and excessively kind, Bergh has been a gentle giant in the unscripted space for years. He’s directed episodic and short content on notable music figures like Alicia Keys and athletes Stephen Curry and Clay Matthews. After the dust settled on “Greatest Love Story,...

Jennifer Lopez recently made a big comeback in her career with the release of This Is Me… Now (a follow-up to her 2002 album This Is Me… Then), and a movie of the same title.
Though the film is loosely based on J.Lo’s experiences in multiple romantic relationships, it is a fictionalized narrative (presenting a semi-autobiographical story).

Jennifer Lopez is celebrating the release of her documentary film The Greatest Love Story Never Told, which dives into some emotional topics.
The 54-year-old entertainer stepped out for a special screening and Q&a session on Monday night (February 26) at the Pacific Design Center in Los Angeles.
In the documentary, Jennifer discusses some tough subjects, including how she was “manhandled” in a past abusive relationship. The topic came up after she filmed the music video for her song “Rebound,” which suggested a domestic violence scenario.
Keep reading to find out more…
“Being thrown around and manhandled like that is not fun. I was never in a relationship where I got beat up, thank God, but I’ve definitely been manhandled and a couple of other unsavory things, rough, disrespectful,” Jennifer said in the documentary.
She continued, “More than anything, it’s really a vulnerable place to be in every day.

Jennifer Lopez takes a cutting approach to transparency in the music video for “Rebound,” a song from her recently released studio album This Is Me… Now. The video arrives as an extended edit from the Prime Video film This Is Me…Now: A Love Story, directed by Dave Meyers.
“When you watch my Amazon Original, This Is Me…Now: A Love Story, you will see Rebound, and the performance is one of my favorites,” Lopez wrote on Twitter earlier this week during a listening session for the album. “It’s painful,...

Jennifer Lopez has spent the better part of her career navigating the two halves of her public persona: Bronx-born girl next door “Jenny from the block” and Hollywood power player “J.Lo.” Though much of the tension between the two has been amplified by media coverage that spans calculated marketing campaigns and inescapable paparazzi scrutiny, Lopez has frequently seemed to capitulate to whichever of the two serves her best at the time.
“This is Me…Now: A Love Story” is, on its face, the visual component of her self-funded ninth studio album, and at a reported $20 million price tag it’s easy to see it first and foremost as an advertisement. But as not only the subject but star, co-writer and executive producer of an interlinked series of music videos, Lopez showcases above all else how tough it is to express oneself personally after more than 30 years in the public eye,...

Given the success rate of most marriages, especially ones made and marketed in Hollywood, it’s a testament to Jennifer Lopez’s unyielding faith in love that she recorded an entire concept album, This Is Me…Now, revolving around her rekindled romance with husband Ben Affleck. “When I was a girl they’d ask me what I’d be/A woman in love is what I grew up wantin’ to be,” she admits, feminism be damned, on the opening track.
Throughout her ninth studio album, Lopez repeatedly refers to the “destiny” and “fate” of her relationship with Affleck without so much as a hint of irony or skepticism. “We get to have a do-over, forever,” she confidently declares on “This Time Around.” Maybe she’s just always been playing the long game. After all, the whole conceit behind “Dear Ben,” a track from her 2002 album This Is Me…Then, aged terribly—until it didn’t.

I suppose last year was one for the sports films in Korea. We got Dream, the one about an underdog football team, and now we have Rebound, a basketball one. Rebound tells the inspirational true story of the Busan Jungang High School basketball team that, against all odds, made their way to the finals of the national basketball tournament in 2012. It’s an admirable tale of camaraderie, hard work, and, most importantly, the power of hope. The story begins with Kang Yang-Hyun, an ex-basketball player, who decides to take up the job of head coach of the Jungang High School basketball team where there is no team. It’s a film about second chances titled Rebound, and it’s certainly going to motivate you to go get the rebound in whatever sport life is playing with you.

Although the Korean movie industry recently announced that the local box office recovered to 70% of Pre-pandemic Level, largely due to the success of “12.12: The Day” which was released on November 22nd and has earned 7,729,273 admissions by December 14, the situation with local cinema is not exactly hopeful, as a number of key figures and specialists mention. Particularly the fact that the majority of talent, including movie stars and filmmakers seem to move towards the rather more popular dramas, the gap left in the movie industry is felt more than ever. At the same time, though, not everything is all bad, since the mainstream movies still find ways out in festivals, streaming and distribution, while a number of intense social dramas remind of the second reason Korean cinema reached the heights it holds now (apart from crime thrillers).
In any case, here are the best South Korean films of 2023, in reverse order.

Basketball is not exactly a sport movies are frequently made about in Korean cinema. However, the true story of coach Kang Yang-hyeon and the Busan Jungang High School's 2012 run to the national championship final despite having only six players on its roster, definitely had some cinematic value, and after a decade of pondering, due to the efforts of BA Entertainment and scriptwriters Kim Eun-hee and Kwon Sung-hui, the story became a film. “Rebound” was rather successful in the local box office, opening up in the second place and currently holding the sixth for 2023.

“The Super Mario Bros Movie” and a local sports movie “Dream” gave the South Korean box office some bounce on their first weekend on release.
Opening in Korea on Wednesday, some three weeks after the beginning of its international and North American campaigns, “Super Mario” earned $4.67 million between Friday and Sunday, according to data from Kobis, the tracking service operated by the Korean Film Council (Kofic). The film has a cumulative of $5.76 million over its opening five days, plus previews.
The film’s weekend numbers are the second highest opening tally recorded by any film this year in Korea. And its weekend score represented a comfortable 40% market share.
Further near-term success may be on the cards. Monday is not an official public holiday in South Korea, but it is widely observed.
Opening in second place over the weekend was Korean sports-comedy-drama title “Dream.” It opened with $2.87 million, or 25% of the market between Friday and Sunday.

The South Korean cinema box office fell to its lowest level of the year over the latest weekend. Nationwide theatrical earnings in a territory which before Covid was the world’s fourth largest were barely over $6 million.
“John Wick: Chapter 4” lead the weekend chart from Japanese anime “Suzume” and Korean sports drama “Rebound” in a top three repeat from a week earlier.
“John Wick 4” earned $2.51 million in its second weekend of release, according to data from Kobis, the tracking service operated by the Korean Film Council (Kofic). That was a 38% week-on-week decline and represented a 41% share of the total Korean box office market. It also gave the film a cumulative total of $9.73 million since release on April 12.
“Suzume,” released on March 8, enjoyed a 20% market share and earned $1.24 million over the weekend. That lifted its cumulative to $38.1 million, extending its lead as the highest grossing film of the current year.

“John Wick: Chapter 4” easily outgunned Japanese animation film Suzume to claim top spot at the South Korean box office over the latest weekend.
The American action title earned $4.05 million between Friday and Sunday, according to data from Kobis, the tracking service operated by the Korean Film Council (Kofic). That represented a nearly 50% market share, continuing a polarization or clustering around a single title that has become familiar of late in Korea, a market that formerly had greater diversity and width.
Over the five days since its Wednesday opening, “John Wick 4” earned $5.87 million.
“Suzume,” which enjoyed five weeks as the top title, slipped in to second place with $1.92 million, a figure that still represented 23% of the total weekend box office market. Since releasing on March 8, the title has earned $36.9 million, a total which makes it the top film released in 2023 in Korea, overtaking another Japanese animation “The First Slam Dunk.

Japanese animation “Suzume” held on to top spot for a fifth consecutive weekend at the South Korean box office, as Korean-produced sports film “Rebound” proved to be misnamed. Arriving only in second place, “Rebound” failed to provide any bounce to the beleaguered cinema sector, leaving the weekend as the lowest scoring this year.
“Suzume” earned $3.08 million with a dominant 46% market share, according to data from Kobis, the tracking service operated by the Korean Film Council (Kofic). That lifted the film’s running total to $33.9 million. The “Frasier” sequel will return to where it all began: Boston. That city, of course, was the setting for “Cheers,” the series that first introduced the character of Frasier Crane, played by Kelsey Grammer, in 1984. The hit NBC spin-off “Frasier” moved the character to Seattle; in its finale, the Frasier made the quick decision to fly to Chicago to chase a love interest, rather than head to San Francisco, where a new TV job awaited.
But as Paramount+ confirmed on Wednesday morning, the new version of “Frasier” will follow the character “in the next chapter of his life as he returns to Boston, Mass., with new challenges to face, new relationships to forge and an old dream or two to finally fulfill.”
The first episode is set to be taped this Friday in front of a live studio audience in Los Angeles. TV helming legend James Burrows will direct the...

Dance music fans have long been acquainted with Arty, but it wasn't until will.i.am nicked one of his songs that mainstream audiences were introduced to the 23-year-old German DJ and producer. Arty made the song in question, "Rebound," with Mat Zo and signed it to Anjunabeats, one of dance music's most respected labels, only to see it sampled liberally in the Black Eyed Peas frontman's track "Let's Go."
What's followed since has been somewhat amusing for music fans, as Anjunabeats' Jono Grant (of Above & Beyond fame) blasted will.i.am, who eventually admitted to using the song without licensing it. Then Chris Brown, who lends his vocal talents to "Let's Go," said he's clueless and doesn't even listen to the some of the tracks he sings on, Mat Zo quit Twitter and Arty was included will.i.am's liner notes. While the whole situation provided will.i.am...

West Hollywood, Calif. -- Will.i.am wants to be known as a maker – not just of music, but things, from cars to headphones.
The Black Eyed Peas frontman is computer chip-maker Intel's "director of creative innovation." He's also partnered with Coca-Cola to create a new brand of products from recycled bottles and cans, including headphones and clothes.
Not that the seven-time Grammy winner – who produces, writes, sings and raps – has lost his ear for hits. Three songs from his new album, "(hash)willpower" – featuring Justin Bieber, Britney Spears and Miley Cyrus – are now in the Billboard Hot 100. It's his fourth solo album but the first in six years and the first since the Peas became global megastars with hits like "Boom Boom Pow" and "I Gotta Feeling." As a solo artist, he has yet to match the Peas' success in album sales; his latest debuted at No.

If Will.i.am's new song with Chris Brown, "Let Go," sounds familiar, it's because it is. Will.i.am admits to copyright infringement on Arty and Mat Zo's track "Rebound" after getting chewed out by Arty on Twitter.
"Arty is a dope producer so I wrote this song to 'Rebound' this last year," Will.i.am tells Kiss FM. "I got in touch with Arty and showed it to him, did a different version to it because I asked him [to] make it newer, because I don't just want to take your song and rap over it. But in a year's time, time's gone by [and] we preferred writing over and using the [original] 'Rebound.' Something happened and the clearance ... hopefully we resolved the issue."
He adds, "I'm a fan of Arty. I think he's great and the world needs to know about how talented those guys are. It's sad that it's turned into...

Has Martin Lawrence given us his best work yet? The 47-year old has more than 25 films on his resume; but I'm not concerned with all 25, instead those few films in which Lawrence Stars, and that depend almost entirely on the success of his performance. I'd also dismiss films in which he's part of an ensemble cast like Boomerang for example. I'm talking about films like the Big Momma's House series, Black Knight, Rebound, and a few...

<< continued from "March Preview (Part 1): 'John Carter,' 'Lorax,' '21 Jump Street' & More"While the first few weeks of March bring potential hits like The Lorax, John Carter and 21 Jump Street, the most anticipated movie of the month doesn't reach theaters until March 23. The Hunger Games is easily the most-anticipated book-to-movie adaptation since Twilight, and it's possible that it has even more box office potential than the extraordinarily popular teen vampire series. Similar to Twilight, The Hunger Games is based on the first in a series of young adult novels that features a female protagonist entangled in a love triangle. While the romance is the main focus of the Twilight series, though, in The Hunger Games it's merely a component of a broader story that centers around teens fighting to the death in the post-apocalyptic equivalent of Survivor. As a result, the movie should have much more...

With the amount of trade news we write, there are certain screenwriters that we tend to see frequently -- on some days, it feels like every Hollywood studio project is being divided up among 15 men (there are sadly no women on this list; the few notable female screenwriters tend to be better known as directors, and I've excluded those known more for their directing work, as they are more recognizable).
Truth is, I had no idea what most of these guys looked like until I compiled this list. Most people who follow the industry probably know what John August looks like (the guy behind a lot of Tim Burton's films) and maybe William Monahan, but few would recognize many of those behind the movies that pollute our multiplexes look like.
So, for the curious among you, here are 13 currently prolific screenwriters whose faces you've probably never seen, but whose...

I seem to recall that when the Producers Guild nominations were announced recently there was a lot of excited noise around the web regarding the representation of science fiction films in the Best Picture category. Some people spouted frustration, still, that Moon wasn't one of the nominees along with Star Trek, Avatar and District 9, but you just can't please everyone.
Yet today, with announcement of the Writers Guild nominations, nobody seems at all satisfied with the choices for either the original or adapted screenplay categories. Why? Mostly because of the inclusion of certain science fiction films, namely Star Trek and Avatar, the latter of which coincidentally has just become available online in script form (including a deleted sex scene).
But the movie receiving the most stunned reactions is The Hangover. I'll agree, the nomination does seem odd considering it's no better than tons of other comedies released each year...

The somewhat tainted Writers Guild of America nominees were announced today. With at least nine disqualified screenplays - 4 or 5 of which happen to be major Oscar contenders - the WGA allowed a few films to be put into the conversation while swatting down a few more noble, interesting and challenging efforts in order to make room for one of the worst comedic screenplays of 2009.
With Inglourious Basterds and Up out of the picture in the Original Screenplay category, we expected and were delivered nominations for (500) Days of Summer (by Scott Neustadter & Michael H. Weber), The Hurt Locker (by Mark Boal) and A Serious Man (by Joel Coen & Ethan Coen). Of all the impressive things the supporters of Avatar claim about the billion-dollar blockbuster, the last thing that rolls off their tongues is James Cameron's screenplay. Well now they can play the nomination card on us all as this WGA...

This right here, this is when we know this movie is going to suck. Say what you will, but there's no giving Steve Carr the benefit of the doubt on this one. Besides directing the pile of crap known as Paul Blart: Mall Cop, his other credits include Are We Done Yet?, Rebound, Daddy Day Care, Dr. Dolittle 2, and Next Friday. Sure, the script, written by "Robot Chicken" writer Dan Milano, might not be that bad, but Carr is going to screw it up. This Short Circuit remake is going to go onto his filmography right there along with the others as yet another piece of crap. This finally confirms what we knew all along - this remake will suck! Variety says that "the remake is a robot reboot that brings the iconic Johnny 5 into the 21st century." Built by the military to be a highly sophisticated weapon, Johnny...

Good news, everyone – Steve Carr, director of those comedic colossi, Paul Blart: Mall Cop, Daddy Day Care, Rebound and Dr. Dolittle 2, will next focus his considerable talents on the much-needed and eagerly-anticipated remake of Short Circuit. Yay and, if you have the time, woo.The John Badham-directed original, which seems to assumed cult classic status over the years despite not being very good, was about a robot named Johnny 5 who is imbued with sentience by a rogue lightning bolt. On the run from the military, Johnny 5 bonds with Ally Sheedy, and hilarious adventures are had by all.The Carr-directed remake retains essentially the same premise, although this time – for added emotional impact – Johnny 5 will bond with a lonely young boy. Christ almighty. To say our expectations for this movie have plummeted seems a little harsh. After all, they weren’t that high to begin with. And it could...

Martin Lawrence has had his ups and downs this decade in terms of box office success, but like most actors he can always do well with his franchises. And fortunately for him, both of his franchises have new sequels on the way.
Earlier this week, Columbia Pictures announced that a script is being written for "Bad Boys 3," though neither Lawrence nor Will Smith is yet signed on for another installment. Now Variety reports that Fox is developing a third movie in the "Big Momma's House" series. Again, there's no word on Lawrence's involvement, but given that his last two movies were only modest successes, it's likely that he'll return.
I'll be the first to admit that one of those movies from 2008, the hilarious ensemble comedy "Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins," is the kind of high concept movie I prefer from Lawrence. And I'm not a big fan of anything requiring a...

The Hangover Directed by: Todd Phillips Written by: Jon Lucas, Scott Moore Starring: Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis, Heather Graham, Ken Jeong, Justin Bartha, Jeffrey Tambor, Mike Tyson Although the summer has become primarily the domain of special effects blockbusters, there will always be high demand for a few solid feel-good comedies as well. While the ones with the biggest stars inevitably tend to get the most attention, this year it may be a different story. The Hangover does not have an Adam Sandler or Will Ferrell to rely on to bring in the crowds, so instead, it has been forced to build buzz the old fashioned way: by being hilarious. To be fair, Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, and Zach Galifianakis are not entirely unknown (Ed Helms currently stars in The Office, while Cooper is known for his roles in Alias and movies like Wedding Crashers and Yes Man...

The gang member who gunned down Judging Amy star Tara Correa-McMullen has been sentenced to life without parole.
Damien Watts, 23, was convicted of murder with special circumstances, attempted murder and other charges in January, following the shooting in Inglewood, Los Angeles in 2005 - which left sixteen-year-old Correa-McMullen and another victim dead.
Watts was handed consecutive life terms for the crime on Friday. A day before the attack, he also killed Thomas Sanders, 31, as he loaded laundry into a car.
Correa-McMullen, real name Shalvah McMullen, starred as a gang member in Judging Amy, as well as appearing alongside Martin Lawrence in comedy movie Rebound.

Pooches should bark up solid numbers for Paramount Pictures. The family comedy “Hotel for Dogs” unspools into 3,271 venues and stars Emma Roberts, Don Cheadle, Lisa Kudrow, Kevin Dillon and Johnny Simmons. Thor Freudenthal (“Motel”) directs from the screenplay by Jeff Lowell based on the novel written by Lois Duncan. We rated and review the film as average. Pic goes against Lionsgate’s horror remake “My Bloody Valentine 3-D,” directed by Patrick Lussier, opens in 2,534 venues. Lussier is well experienced in the editing field horror-wise with work in “Dracula 2000,” “Cursed,” “Red Eye,” “White Noise 2: The Light” and the most recent “The Eye” English adaptation starring Jessica Alba. Also trying their luck in 3,144 locations will be Sony’s “Paul Blart: Mall Cop,” helmed by Steve Carr (“Are We Done Yet?” and “Rebound”) from the screenplay by star Kevin James and Nick Bakay. Adam Sandler produces the film via his Happy Madison Productions.

After successfully earning about $1 billion theatrically from a theme park ride converted into a feature film, Disney is doing it all over again. First it was Pirates of the Caribbean, now it's Tomorrowland - their futuristic section of the theme park that will be used as "inspiration" for a new space movie. Don't be so quick to shrug this one off, because it could become the next big franchise like Pirates of the Caribbean and we just can't see it yet. Dwayne Johnson is being setup as the lead in the film and writers Jon Lucas and Scott Moore (of Rebound, Full of It, and Four Christmases) have been hired to write an "epic-sized action adventure set in space." To add more fuel to the fire, the currently untitled film is being produced by the same guys who brought us Dwayne Johnson's The Game Plan. Disney apparently denies that...
