Actor and producer Allison Williams has been gracing our screens for nearly two decades. The 35-year-old star made her acting debut in the 2004 NBC drama series "American Dreams," but her acting career didn't fully take off until she landed the role of Marnie Michaels in Lena Dunham's HBO series "Girls," which ran for six seasons from 2012 to 2017. After "Girls," Williams began acting in films, and in 2017, she portrayed the manipulative Rose Armitage in Jordan Peele's Oscar-winning film "Get Out." Following the success of "Get Out," Williams has starred in Netflix's "A Series of Unfortunate Events" and "M3GAN," among other notable works. Most recently, she can be seen alongside Jonathan Bailey and Matt Bomer in "Fellow Travelers," which hit Showtime on Oct. 27.
Outside of her acting career, Williams prefers to keep her personal life, including details about her romances, out of the public eye. Over the years, Williams...

Alright, high-five: Patrick Warburton made a surprise guest appearance on “The Bachelorette” as contestant Zach Shallcross’ real-life uncle.
The actor, known for portraying Elaine’s (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) quirky boyfriend Puddy on “Seinfeld,” was first seen in a promo for Monday night’s episode, which saw star Rachel Recchia join the final four (including Shallcross) for hometown dates. In the clip, Warburton says, “I just feel sorry for those other fellas” — in his signature deep drawl that he lent to Kronk in “The Emperor’s New Groove.”
As the video made the rounds on social media, Warburton cheekily tweeted, “I’m being asked ‘why are you on The Batchelorette ?’ [sic] It’s my favorite show? I’m addicted..? I have a crush on that Zach Shallcross fellow? Or…all of the above? Or…Zach is my nephew? Or…all of the above?”

On last night’s episode of The Bachelorette, fans had to do a double-take during Zach Shallcross’ hometown visit.
As Rachel Recchia went to Zach’s home to meet his family, viewers and Rachel alike were surprised by one of the family members.
This was because Zach’s uncle, Patrick Warburton, was not only on the show Seinfeld, but he also has been a voice actor on the famous Family Guy.
Patrick is the brother of Zach’s mom, Megan, and Zach felt like his uncle was a big enough part of his life to introduce him to his potential future wife.
After the hometown visit, Zach felt entirely comfortable and one hundred percent sure that he was now totally in love with Rachel and told her as much.

Since “Bombshell” is about “how women are perceived by the public,” that’s what costume designer Colleen Atwood centered her work on in this satirical drama about the real-life sexual harassment scandal that exploded at Fox News in 2016. Watch our exclusive video interview with Atwood above.

The Newmans are the the most nominated family in Oscar history with a whopping 92 bids and they could bump up that number even more this year. Cousins Thomas Newman and Randy Newman are both in the running for Best Original Score for their work on two very different Best Picture contenders, “1917” and “Marriage Story,” respectively. Should they make the cut, it’d mark the first time in almost a quarter of a century and second time overall they’re competing against each other.
Two sounds mighty small when you consider that Thomas has been nominated 13 times in the category and Randy, eight. But alas, the only time they’ve collided was 24 years ago when Thomas was up for “Unstrung Heroes” and Randy was nominated for “Toy Story” in Best Musical or Comedy Score (the Oscars split score into drama and musical or comedy from 1995 to ’98); they lost to Alan Menken...

Here at Et, we’re obsessed with a lot of things -- and this is what we’re most excited about this week:
Why We’re Obsessed With Cardi B
The odds of relative newcomer Cardi B dethroning Taylor Swift’s pop juggernaut, “Look What You Made Me Do,” from the top of the Billboard Hot 100 seemed stacked against her. And yet, as fate would have it, the New York rapper’s infectious debut single, “Bodak Yellow,” has finally landed at No. 1, making the 24-year-old the first solo female hip-hop artist to top the chart since Lauryn Hill in 1998 with “Doo Wop (That Thing).” Her quick ascent is especially impressive considering Cardi has never had a chart presence before “Bodak Yellow.” Now, all eyes are on the former Love & Hip Hop: New York star as fellow artists, including Swift herself, Nicki Minaj and Missy Elliott, have all shown support. But more than anything, it’s hard...

For those done with their beach reads, it’s time to turn to these new books that will be engaging companions as the leaves change color and the temperature cools. Like film, theater and TV, the new book season comes packed with debuts from the likes of You’ve Got Mail star Tom Hanks and Matt Weiner; the return of authors John Green and John le Carre; and a biting postmortem from Hillary Clinton.

Ascending queens Elizabeth (“The Crown”) and Victoria (“Victoria”) face off in the Emmy race for Series Original Dramatic Score, while old Hollywood (“Feud: Bette and Joan”) counters Russian classicism (“Fargo”) for Limited Series, Movie, or Special Dramatic Score.
Meanwhile, political (“House of Cards,” Taboo”) and survival overtones (“Planet Earth II” and “A Series of Unfortunate Events”) clash in the Series category, as well as war (“Five Came Back,” “The White Helmets,” “Suite Française”) and culture (“O.J.: Made in America”) in the other category.
Not surprisingly, the odds are with Rupert Gregson-Williams (“The Crown”) and last year’s “Mr. Robot” winner, Mac Quayle (“Feud”), for their respective retro scores. While Williams reached for orchestral nobility, Quayle went for more orchestral glam.
“The Crown” — “Hyde Park Corner” (Rupert Gregson-Williams)
The score for showrunner Peter Morgan’s drama about the rise of Elizabeth II (nominated Claire Foy) was all about restraint, given her sense of calm.

The internet is abuzz now that Matt Groening has confirmed he’s in production on “Disenchantment,” his third animated television series after such legendary shows as “The Simpsons” and “Futurama.” The former will be heading into its 29th season this fall, while the latter wrapped up its beloved seven-season run in 2013. But now we have a brand new Groening series to look forward to, one that will be highly bingeworthy given that Netflix is involved.

Considering that both of Groening’s series had no problem exceeding the 100-episode mark (“The Simpsons” is currently sitting high with 618 episodes under its belt), it’s safe to assume he’ll be in business with Netflix for quite some time. While more details are bound to arrive between now and the series’ premiere date, here’s everything we...

A “snub” implies a conscious dismissal; a knowing exclusion; a willful act of disdainful rebuffing. And in the era of “too much TV,” the idea of Emmy voters purposefully boxing out anyone other than Donald Trump is a bit nutty. Those who don’t make the cut aren’t “snubs” so much as they’re… leftovers.
But the 2017 nomination list sure was filled with surprises, good and bad. And while we’d like to refer to the surprising exclusions as leftovers, that’s just too darn confusing when so many of the excluded came from a show called “The Leftovers.” So we’re sticking with snubs. Just know that we know the TV Academy didn’t mean anything by it.
The Snubs
“The Americans”
After breaking into the major categories for the first time last year, FX’s critically acclaimed drama was kicked right back out of the Drama Series race.

For Ryan Phillippe, playing a dad in his new thriller Wish Upon didn’t take too much research.
In the film, he plays the father of 17-year-old Clare Shannon — and in real life, the actor has a 17-year old daughter of his own, Ava Elizabeth, with ex-wife Reese Witherspoon.
“Joey King, who plays my daughter, is the same age as my daughter in real life,” Phillippe, 42, tells People. “So she and I could connect very easily because I obviously understand teenage girls.”

While storytelling is something we value deeply in the shows we watch, we often look to the key actors of these narratives as one of their ultimate signs of success. Some of our favorite shows thus far this year have owed so much to some staggering acting work. With two inevitable exceptions, we limited this overview to one performance per show, one role per actor. But there was some incredible range to be found in that work, which makes us excited for what the rest of 2017 has in store.

We’re just over six months into 2017, and there are only 10 new shows you need to know about. Kidding, of course: There are at least another dozen new additions to the television landscape than the chosen few below, but the IndieWire TV team has narrowed the list down as much as possible. In addition to the multitude of ongoing top-tier TV you’re already beholden to, these 10 demand to be slotted into your queue, no matter how crowded it may already seem. From disguises to dogs to divinity, the best new TV shows of 2017 cover a lot of ground. But they’re all worth your time.

When Netflix started taking its originals game seriously — a.k.a. when it started commissioning productions by itself — the surging streaming service quickly earned a prestigious reputation. On the backs of “House of Cards” and “Orange is the New Black,” the over-the-top platform became an immediate awards contender and critical darling.
But over the last 12 months, as Netflix releases more and more original content, there’s been a noticeable dip in the quality of its dramas; a dip that precedes a changing of the guard for the service when it comes to TV’s kingmaker: the Emmys.
The Good News

Netflix continues to roll out great exclusive shows that keep subscribers coming back for more. From the Marvel shows to A Series of Unfortunate Events, Netflix has something for everyone. This August they will be releasing Death Note, which is based on the famous Japanese manga written by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata and the anime that followed. In case you are not familiar with Death Note, it follows a high school student named Light Turner, played by Nate Wolff, who comes across a mystical notebook dropped by Ryuk, a shinigami voiced by Willem Dafoe. The notebook has the power to kill any person whose name is written in the book. Although he starts off with good intentions, he becomes intoxicated with killing anyone who he feels deserves to die. The mysterious deaths then get the attention of a famous detective named "L", played by Lakeith Stanfield, who takes the case to bring Light down.

Director Barry Sonnenfeld’s re-imagining of “A Series of Unfortunate Events” took dark and creepy and turned it into a vaudevillian tour de force for Neil Patrick Harris as Count Olaf. And production designer Bo Welch and special effects makeup designer Bill Terezakis brought an imaginative and spirited charm to the proceedings.
“It may look dreary and creepy on the surface, but charmingly idealistic and cheerful when filtered through the eyes of the Baudelaire orphans,” said four-time Oscar nominee Welch, who also directed the final two episodes. “They maintain this attitude that only young people have where they persevere, they use their smarts, and they survive onto the next horrible adventure in the midst of a bunch of moronic adults.”

Barry Sonnenfeld’s has proved to have a unique directorial eye with such pop culture touchstones as “The Addams Family,” “Men in Black” and “Get Shorty.” However, he’s spent the past year or so, working for Netflix as the show runner and executive producer of the streaming service’s “Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events” reboot.
During our conversation on this brand new episode of the 4 Quadrant podcast, Sonnenfeld bluntly explains why he was fired from the original movie (there was no love lost between himself and a producer at DreamWorks), how to handle the incredibly talented, but infamously difficult super producer Scott Rudin (it involves pillows) and goes into major detail on the casting and production of ‘Unfortunate Events.’

Recently we have learned that Nathan Fillion, star of the cult television series Firefly and the film Serenity, has joined the cast of Netflix's A Series of Unfortunate Events for its second season. In the past Fillion has appeared in many comic book films as a voice actor. He is mostly known for voicing Hal Jordan in some of DC's animated films like Green Lantern: Emerald Knights, Justice League: Throne of Atlantis, Justice League: Flashpoint Paradox and Justice League: Doom. He has one live action comic book role in Guardians of the Galaxy, in the form of an unnamed Kyln prisoner that Groot take easily takes out.
He recently had a cameo in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which unfortunately got cut. In the same way we saw a Batman poster during Man of Steel, Fillion's cameo, or easter egg if you want to call it that instead,...

The first book of the popular series, Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events: The Bad Beginning, hit the shelves in September of 1999. Five years later, Paramount Pictures released the film A Series of Unfortunate Events. This film starred Jim Carrey, Liam Aiken, Emily Browning, Kara/Shelby Hoffman and Jude Law. Fast forward to 2017 when Netflix released the series starring Neil Patrick Harris as the vile Count Olaf, Malina Weissman as Violet Baudelaire, Louis Hynes as Klaus Baudelaire and Presley Smith as Sunny Baudelaire. The show did well enough to be renewed for a second season.
