It is a shame you can't buy a box set of all the episodes of Watercolour Challenge. It was the perfect afternoon show. It had a simple format. Three amateur painters would paint a watercolour of the same scene somewhere in the UK, they would be judged by a professional and the winner would go on to a regional final then further if they could. Most of the pictures were fine and it was interesting to hear the painters talk about their passion for their hobby. You got to see all kinds of places around the country, not always rural, and it was fascinating to see three views of the same place in three different ways. People are wonderfully dissimilar.
It was hosted by the incomparable Hannah Gordon who was intelligent, charming and self-effacing and blessedly light years away from the show- off presenters we get these days. The best description of the show would be, civilised. It should be brought back or just repeated ad infinitum.
