Bind Casting, Synopsis, and Start Date

It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything regarding filmmaker Dan Walton’s planned feature directorial debut Bind, but today that’s all changed. Walton (who served as co-executive producer on 2008’s lurid Gutterballs) informed us that the film (which now features the tag-line "Hell Just Froze Over") is set to go before cameras in March of 2010 in Vancouver, Canada, and also provided us with a synopsis of the 80’s horror homage and an updated cast list.
According to Walton, who will direct from his own script, Bind tells the story of “a weekend getaway to a scenic winter wonderland that takes a deadly turn when a group of friends find themselves pitted against the elements and a dark presence with a bloody agenda.”
FX man Brian Sipe, whose previous credits include Van Helsing and Pirates of the Caribbean, will be on hand to provide what is expected

This past fall saw the debut of the supernatural horror/comedy Jennifer’s Body, and with the film's Blu-ray and DVD release being only a few weeks away (December 29th), I thought it might be interesting to take a look back at some of the most successful high school horror films that have been released over the past 10 to 15 years.
Jennifer’s Body is a slick production, equipped with fresh young stars, a hip soundtrack, and, of course, strings of "clever" dialogue. And that’s the criteria I’ve chosen to adhere to when working on this top ten list. Some of the films included here aren’t necessarily my favorites, but they’ve been impactful and deserve the call-out all the same. Richard Kelly’s The Box opens today in the UK, you can read my review here, and to celebrate the 70s paranoia vibe we’re posting this look back at some of the greatest conspiracy/paranoia thrillers of that decade. There are some great films here, and The Box does its best to emulate this, so you might want to look into some of these when you’re done with Kelly’s latest.

This is a similar program to the Red2Blu offer they made allowing customers to upgrade their HD DVD titles to Blu-ray, a program I actually took advantage of and loved it as a result.
The process to upgrade is simple. Warner Bros. has announced a DVD to Blu-ray upgrade program. While the list doesn’t include all their titles, it’s at least a start. According to WB, the process to upgrade is simple. Consumers select the titles they want to upgrade on DVD2Blu.com, mail in their standard DVDs with pre-paid postage and a short time later receive copies of the same film on Blu-ray Disc. If you mail in one DVD, it’s $7.95 plus shipping. If you order more than $25, you’ll receive free shipping.
While some people haven’t been converted to Blu-ray, I’m all in. I think the picture quality is amazing on Blu-ray and I definitely see a difference between DVD and the HD format. Two big DVD and Blu-ray announcements! New Line Entertainment's The Final Destination 3D will arrive on DVD and Blu-ray January 5, 2010 and Zombieland will arrive on February 2nd. Not much info on the Zombieland DVD yet, but special features for Final Destination include additional scenes for the DVD release. We've learned that the fourth installment in New Line Cinema's "Final Destination" franchise will be arriving on DVD and Blu-Ray January 5, 2010. The standard DVD will be priced at $28.98 Srp and the Blu-ray will be priced at $35.99 Srp. Both editions will contain the 2D and 3D versions of the film, and will also come with two pairs of 3D glasses. The film stars Bobby Campo, Shantel Vansanten, Nick Zano, Haley Webb, Mykelti Williamson and Krista Allen. Inside you can find all the special features that will be included on both DVD formats. The Final Destination, the fourth and most likely not last entry in Warner and New Line's answer to Lionsgate's Saw, is coming to Blu-ray Disc and DVD on January 1.
The film racked up $67 million domestically at the box office and held onto the top spot for two consecutive weeks thanks in part to being the first series installment to support 3D. Warner Home Video will include a pair of anaglyph 3D glasses for a limited time.
The Blu-ray edition of The Final Destination will be presented in 2.4:1 1080p video and 5.1 Dolby TrueHD audio. Only the Blu-ray exclusive bonus features are available at this time with shared exclusives to be announced at a later date.

Sin City producer Stephen L'Heureux's Solipsist Films has acquired the rights to Ed Laroche's graphic novel Almighty.
According to Mania, Black Hawk Down screenwriter Ken Nolan is attached to write the script and potential directors are being approached.
Created, written and drawn by Laroche, Almighty takes place in 2098 and follows a female motorcycling mercenary called Fale, who is hired to rescue a girl and bring her home across a third world America - "a fractured landscape of segregated zones driven by neo-tribalism."
Laroche said: "At its heart Almighty is a pursuit story. As the story unfolds there are other things that are attached to it but at the core of it, a girl has been kidnapped and someone has hired a killer to find her and bring her home." The official website for Almighty is here.

Michael Jackson's This Is It performed worse than expected last weekend, although you wouldn't know it to read the trades, many of which used way too many adjectives to describe a movie that did about as well as the latest Final Destination flick in its first stanza. Only that one had direct competition.
So the question for this weekend is, can A Christmas Carol, which also looks like it could fall well below the projections, actually reverse the trend? I don't think we'll see the same kind of business, where a movie estimated to make around $50 million in five days does 60% of that and is congratulated. More than likely, there will be plenty of family business in standard format theaters and IMAX to push this one to around $40 million. With about 3,500 theaters in all, that sounds about right to me, within 10% or so.

'Gunplay' to be adapted for television

Platinum Studios and Fox21 have entered an agreement to adapt Jorge Vega's graphic novel Gunplay as a television series. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Final Destination writer and producer Glen Morgan is on board to rework the book. Morgan has extensive experience in science fiction television, having previously worked on The X-Files, Millennium and Space: Above And Beyond.
