The 15 Most Anticipated Films of 2010

4 hours ago | ReelLoop.com | See recent Reel Loop news »

So you’ve unwrapped all of your Christmas presents, received three copies of District 9 from multiple uncommunicative family members, and the year of 2009 is about to be wrapped up. The debate is over: 2009 has been a great year for film. So what do you do now?

Why, start thinking about what’s around the corner, of course!

While there’s less in the way of interesting sci-fi, as 2009 will surely be remembered for, 2010 has plenty of interesting new films in store, as well as some remakes, reboots and sequels. Here’s a list of the 15 most anticipated films of 2010, in order of release, followed by a minefield of movies you might consider avoiding.

The Wolfman (February 12)

Originally scheduled for release this year and pushed back due to production delays, it seems that Joe Johnston’s The Wolfman is finally upon us. While news of reshoots and delays always send »

Owen Gleiberman's 10 Best Movies of the Decade

25 December 2009 10:48 AM, PST | EW.com - The Movie Critics | See recent EW.com - The Movie Critics news »

I confess, looking back, that I have no great generalizations to make about the movies that came along this decade. Except for this: There were more films of extraordinary and inspiring quality than I can count -- or include on this list. Without any trouble at all, I could easily have compiled a Top 100 list. Yet there's something about that magical arbitrary number 10 that focuses you, disciplines you, forces you to ask yourself what matters. Here, in order of preference, are the movies of the last 10 years that thrilled, moved, delighted, fascinated, and meant the most to this critic. They're »

Crowe Gets The Shaft In "Robin Hood"

25 December 2009 10:27 AM, PST | SneakPeek | See recent SneakPeek news »

Pinewood Studios UK recently wrapped up sequences on director Ridley "Blade Runner" Scott's "Robin Hood", starring Oscar-winning actors Russell "Gladiator" Crowe and Cate "Elizabeth" Blanchett.

"Robin Hood" reunites Crowe and Scott in their fifth collaboration together.

Producers are Brian "A Beautiful Mind" Grazer, Scott and Crowe.

The new feature chronicles the life of an expert archer, previously conerned only with his own self-preservation, starting with his service in the army of 'King Richard' against the French. Upon Richard’s death, 'Robin' travels to 'Nottingham', a town suffering from the corruption of a despotic sheriff and crippling taxation, where he falls for spirited widow 'Lady Marion' (Blanchett), "...a woman skeptical of the identity and motivations of this crusader from the forest..."

Hoping to earn the hand of Marion and salvage the village, Robin assembles a gang whose lethal mercenary skills are matched only by their appetite for life.

The M/C Decade List #40 - #31: Russell Crowe, forgotten children, and Spike Lee

24 December 2009 5:00 AM, PST | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

For a full description of the purpose and the parameters of this list, read the introduction. You can read #50 - #41 here. #40 / "Gladiator" I was indeed entertained.  Ridley Scott has made better films than "Gladiator," but he's rarely made more entertaining ones.  This film is a confident, well-armored machine, cutting down each and every potential objection to it with sheer brute charisma and visual panache, and the script's big mechanics click into place with precision, paying off every set-up just right.  This is not a film with the same sort of expansive soul as "Lawrence of Arabia," and I »

First Teaser Posters For Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood Emerge

23 December 2009 3:18 PM, PST | FilmShaft.com | See recent FilmShaft.com news »

The first teaser posters for Robin Hood (a matching quad and one sheet) have hit the net! Starring Russell Crowe, Cate Blanchett, Matthew Macfadyen and Mark Strong, the Ridley Scott-directed picture is (according to the studio) a more “historically accurate” interpretation that we’ve ever seen before.

Following on from the impressive looking trailer earlier this week, these posters feel like a bit of a disappointment. Still, they are teasers so I suppose they’re not meant to be the all-singing, all-dancing one sheets I’d like them to be. Check them out below:

The story of how an archer in the service of King Richard the Lionheart became to be known as Robin Hood, the famous archer and outlaw of English Folklore.

Beginning after the Death of King Richard at the Siege of Chalus Chabrol, the film follows Robin on his rise to infamy among the English Barons »

All the film highlights this Christmas

Penguins, Nicole Kidman and Narnia – Paul Howlett picks his film highlights

Christmas Eve

Over the Hedge

(Tim Johnson, Karey Kirkpatrick, 2006) 4.25pm, BBC1

A DreamWorks animated adventure in which Rj, the cynical racoon (laconically voiced by Bruce Willis) teaches a burrowful of innocent woodland animals to forage off the waste of an encroaching housing estate rather than rely on boring old natural food, before inevitably seeing the error of his ways. Plenty of good slapstick fun for kids and cine-literate gags for adults, although it all seems a bit glib compared to Shrek and co.

Corpse Bride

(Tim Burton, Mike Johnson, 2005) 6pm, ITV1

Life, in Burton's typically weird and ghoulish fantasy, is a dull, grey affair: death is much more colourful and fun, as young Victor (voiced by Johnny Depp) discovers when he is whisked into the underworld by the maggoty Corpse Bride (Helena Bonham Carter). Trouble is, he's in love »

Robin Hood Posters

23 December 2009 5:47 AM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Below the break you'll be able to see high-resolution versions of both the one sheet and quad designs for the Robin Hood poster. Combining the posters and stills with the two trailers so far released, the lesser rock-addled Us cut and the more plot-driven UK one, we're starting to get a good idea of how this picture will look and move. The common comparison is Gladiator, for obvious reasons. My favourite Robin Hood movies so far were Michael Curtiz and William Keighley's Technicolour extravaganza The Adventures of Robin Hood, a film that could barely have more stylistic distinctions from Ridley Scott's approach, and Richard Lester's Robin and Marian, which tells a completely different story. I'm hoping for a hat trick of superb Hood pictures here, each able to complement the others. So, take your pick: you can have two slightly different compositions of Mr. Russell Crowe and his bag, »

Robin Hood: it's Gladiator in green tights

23 December 2009 4:14 AM, PST | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

The trailer for Ridley Scott's retelling of the legend has Russell Crowe brandishing a bow instead of a sword and scowling in Sherwood Forest rather than the Roman Colosseum. But they don't fool Anna Pickard

When a star and a director have enjoyed serious – nay, epic – success together in the past, I can't help but wonder whether sometimes, they meet up for a coffee and try to suss out if the other would be up for joining forces again.

So imagine Russell Crowe and Ridley Scott sitting in a coffee shop, nervously giggling and fluttering their eyelashes and playing with their hair while reminiscing over shared memories of just how tough Crowe looked in American Gangster (and sharing pained silences, wordless admissions of shame over A Good Year). Until, stumbling over another clumsy mention of how much he misses polishing his broadsword, one finally builds the nerve to say something. »

While I'll always hold a special place in my heart for the Disney version of Robin Hood, I'm nonetheless looking forward to seeing what Russell Crowe and director Ridley Scott are able to do with the tale. I know a lot of people were a little down when the trailer came out saying that it just looked like another Gladiator. But Kingdom Of Heaven was marketed as another Gladiator too but that turned out to be a pretty damn good movie (the Extended Cut anyway). The first poster for the film »

New International Trailer for Ridley Scott’s ‘Robin Hood’

22 December 2009 11:00 AM, PST | The Flickcast | See recent The Flickcast news »

We just discussed the recently released trailer for Robin Hood, starring Russell Crowe, Cate Blanchett, and a host of other excellent actors, But, now Yahoo has the exclusive trailer for the international audience; and it shows far more Robin Hood-like action, and even the prerequisite shot of the camera being the arrow flying through the trees at a target.

Instead of a pounding “metal” tune backing up the images in the last trailer, this time it seems that the music for this trailer is from The Dark Knight, backed up with some added violins; and then some much more decidedly British-isle sounding music.

We also get a good smattering of dialogue, including the soon to be classic, “Are you ready to be, who you are?” There are glimpses of Marian in action, the Sheriff (Matthew MacFayden) yelling at someone, and the still engaging Max von Sydow giving his best Commissioner Gordon speech, »

Second Robin Hood Trailer is Less Gladiator, More Robin Hood

22 December 2009 9:45 AM, PST | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

I can’t wait for Ridley Scott’s “Robin Hood”. Give this guy a big budget, a couple hundred extras with broadswords, and he always turns in a pretty worthy 2 hours or so. If nothing else, the action is going to be worth the price of admission. That looks to be the case with “Robin Hood” after seeing the first trailer. Here’s the second trailer, which eschews much of the “Gladiator”-esque action and feel of the first one in favor of, you know, actually showing more Robin Hood-esque action. Overall, I liked this one much better, if only because it stays truer to the character and is not nearly as bombastic. ‘Robin Hood’ chronicles the life of an expert archer, previously interested only in self-preservation, from his service in King Richard’s army against the French. Upon Richard’s death, Robin travels to Nottingham, a town suffering from »

First International Trailer For Robin Hood

22 December 2009 9:15 AM, PST | Screenrush | See recent Screenrush news »

The first international trailer for Ridley Scott's forthcoming forest-dwelling epic Robin Hood is now online.

Russell Crowe stars as the titular character, alongside Cate Blanchett as the lovely Maid Marion and co-stars William Hurt, Vanessa Redgrave, Saoirse Ronan, Mark Strong, Kevin Durand and Scott Grimes.

Check out the trailer in the player below. It certainly does, as many have noted, have its similarities to the director and lead's earlier collaboration on Gladiator, but who cares? Gladiator was ace, and if the boys want to get together and make something equally rousing and entertaining a decade later, then we say good luck to 'em.

Robin Hood International Trailer #1

21 December 2009 11:00 PM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

A week ago, we saw the first trailer for Ridley Scott's Robin Hood. Now we've got an international version, and it omits the silly and inappropriate rock soundtrack heard in the domestic cut. Instead, this clip offers up a bit more story and a set of dueling speeches, one condemning Robin Hood (Russell Crowe) and one in which the outlaw rallies either a band of men or another leader. If this version of the trailer doesn't do much to dispel the notion that the film may be Gladiator in a forest, it does show off more of the picture's scope. While the domestic trailer made the film look a lot like Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, only with more grit and less romance, we can now see a hint of the historic scope that Ridley Scott has promised from the start. There are the expected bits with Robin Hood »

International Trailer for 'Robin Hood' Explains the Storyline

21 December 2009 8:12 PM, PST | Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news »

After debuting the first trailer for "Robin Hood", Universal Pictures has shared another preview to this Russell Crowe-starring movie by releasing an international trailer. Making its way out via Yahoo! Movies UK, the new video has managed to reveal more about the film's story as it features more lines from the characters.

Based on the Robin Hood legend, the film follows Sir Robin Hood of Locksley, Earl of Huntington, who has returned to Nottingham after fighting in the Third Crusade just to find the oppression caused by the new Sheriff of Nottingham. Using his intelligence and military skills, he tries to free his home village from tyranny and corruption in England.

However, his attempts to cause an uprising has made him being outlawed and cited as an enemy of the state. While trying to lead a successful revolt, Robin must also win the affection of the recently widowed Maid Marian. »

International Trailer For Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood

21 December 2009 6:44 PM, PST | FilmShaft.com | See recent FilmShaft.com news »

The international trailer has landed for the Ridley Scott directed, Russell Crowe vehicle, Robin Hood. Unlike the Us teaser trailer, this latest treat features far more dialogue and action although judging from some of the epic looking footage within, I’d say we’re still in for a Robin Hood unlike any other we’ve seen before.

Either way it’s a pretty slick looking trailer, Oscar worthy? Too early to tell, but that’s definitely the vibe I’m getting. Check it out below:

The story of how an archer in the service of King Richard the Lionheart became to be known as Robin Hood, the famous archer and outlaw of English Folklore.

Beginning after the Death of King Richard at the Siege of Chalus Chabrol, the film follows Robin on his rise to infamy among the English Barons and the newly crowned King John.
