Trailer: Legion – Motion Comic

22 December 2009 7:20 AM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

The Scott Stewart directed supernatural thriller  of Legion starring Paul Bettany looks like being a wonderfully violent and nasty film, and the trailer which debuted this summer had a nice vibe, sort of The Mist meets From Dusk till Dawn.

Recently we’ve seen a slew of motion comics, which is a process of animating the still frames of a comic book and now Legion has had the same treatment – and the trailer is now available below.

Paul Bettany does the voiceover for this and it looks to be a great accompaniment to the film which is released in January 2010.

Enjoy.

More 'Machete'? Rodriguez, Trejo Talk Sequels

21 December 2009 4:48 PM, PST | GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news »

From extremely humble beginnings, Machete may turn into a franchise for Danny Trejo and co-director/producer/creator Robert Rodriguez. The first feature-length film will be released next April, apparently, and already there is talk of not just one but two sequels.

"Well, Robert had been training me...god, that sounds really silly...for Machete since we did Desperado, Trejo says in a new article at MovieWeb. Everybody thinks that Machete came out of a trailer, but it didn't," explained Trejo. "Robert told me that he wanted to do this movie called Machete when we were doing Desperado."

"It is a culmination of Desperado, Once Upon a Time in Mexico and there's even a little bit of From Dusk Till Dawn in there. I think it's going to be one of his (Rodriguez') best and I'm not just saying that because I'm the lead, it's just a great movie."

Danny Trejo Explains Machete's Origins

21 December 2009 7:06 AM, PST | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

Many people think that the idea behind making Robert Rodriguez's upcoming Machete came from its inclusion as a faux-trailer in the Rodriguez/Quentin Tarantino double feature Grindhouse. However, Danny Trejo told ComingSoon that in fact the movie evolved from many years of planning.

Everybody thinks that Machete came out of a trailer, but it didn't. Robert told me he wanted to do this movie called Machete when we were doing Desperado and that if you look at the character in Machete, he kind of molded this character Machete ... Machete kicks a**. [laughs] It is a culmination of Desperado, Once Upon a Time in Mexico ... I think there's even a little bit of From Dusk Till Dawn in there.

I think it's going to be one of his best. I'm not just saying that 'cause I'm the lead in it, but it's just a great movie. I think everybody's going to »

Robert Rodriguez Talks 'Sin City 2' and New 'Spy Kids' Movie

21 December 2009 6:54 AM, PST | AMC - Script to Screen | See recent AMC - Script to Screen news »

Lately director Robert Rodriguez has been busy developing other movies and producing movies too, "Predators" is a film that Rodriguez is producing down in his Troublemaker Studios over in Austin TX and he recently gave some updates Sin City 2, and a reboot of Spy Kids.

Of course everyone wants to know is what’s up with Sin City 2, and while he wouldn't give to much information on it he did say that there is a script:

I don’t mean to jump back to Sin City 2 but it seems that the last few years we constantly talk to you about it and everyone’s asked about it, it’s a project that everyone’s seems to be very interested in, what would you categorize say like a percentage of this thing actually happening?

Robert Rodriguez: I can’t say no because I don’t know its no. »

Robert Rodriguez Talks Sin City 2, Machete, Spy Kids and more!

20 December 2009 6:09 PM, PST | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

Early this week I along with some other online journalists got a chance to go to Austin TX and visit the set of "Predators," which Robert Rodriguez is producing. While I can't report right now about our set visit, what I can report is about what producer Rodriguez had to say about his upcoming slate and of course talk a bit about  (Its Coming, Its Happening, Its Still On Its Way) "Sin City 2." As most of you know when It’s been 4 years since Sin City was released and the last thing that was heard about the sequel was from producer Stephen L'Heureux who said the film was scheduled to go before the cameras in the second half of 2010, with Robert Rodriguez back to direct, and Frank Miller co-directing. And every time someone asks someone from the cast it’s always the same answer, "I know it’s coming" blah blah. »

Robert Rodriguez and Trejo Talk Machete

20 December 2009 4:05 PM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Ever since directors Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez released their experimental tribute to exploitation films entitled, Grindhouse in 2007, which featured "fake trailers," fans have been desperately waiting for a full-length version of Rodriguez's Machete trailer. The trailer starred frequent Rodriguez collaborator Danny Trejo in the title role as a Federale from Mexico who gets hired to do hatchet jobs in the U.S. Well, fans can now stop waiting as Rodriguez and Trejo began shooting the film, simply entitled Machete, earlier this year and are currently in post-production on the project. The movie features an extremely intriguing and talented cast that in addition to Trejo includes, Michelle Rodriguez, Lindsay Lohan, Cheech Marin, Jessica Alba, Rose McGowan, Robert De Niro, Steven Segal, Jeff Fahey, Don Johnson and Tom Savini. We recently had the opportunity to speak to both Robert Rodriguez and Danny Trejo visiting Rodriguez's Troublemaker Studios in Austin, Texas to »

Finals Week: 'Lips of Blood: Female sexuality and desire in the modern vampire film'

17 December 2009 3:24 PM, PST | Pretty/Scary | See recent pretty-scary news »

Lips of Blood: Female sexuality and desire in the modern vampire film By Brigid Cherry

The vampire in film has always been associated with elements of sexuality and morality. This association between vampirism and sexuality is related to the violation of taboos, but more importantly allows the identification of the other which is then repressed. Erotic and sexual characteristics are equated with vampirism, which for the female character - who is herself other and therefore subject to repression - means that to embrace the vampire is to embrace sexuality. For that, a forbidden act for the woman who is constrained by patriarchy to suppress her sexuality, she is punished - she is or becomes the vampire and dies, frequently staked through the heart. She is contrasted strongly and starkly with the heroine, the victim who remains coded as virginal, who is therefore pure and can be returned to normality »

Top Ten Tuesday: George Clooney

1 December 2009 3:52 PM, PST | WeAreMovieGeeks.com | See recent WeAreMovieGeeks.com news »

From humble beginnings in films like Return To Horror High and Return Of The Killer Tomatoes, a two-time “Sexiest Man Alive”, four-time Academy Award nominee (so far), and one-time winner of Best Supporting Actor (so far) was born.  George Clooney’s career has been a long and winding road in both film and television.  Today, he takes all roles from absolutely serious (Syriana) to comical (Leatherheads) to downright silly cameos (South Park: Bigger, Longer, And Uncut and Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over).  It is for this eclectic mix of performances and characters that we salute this week the top 10 of George Clooney.  Whether it is his performance or the roles themselves he brings to life, each character listed below is memorable in their own right.  And, with films like Up In The Air and The American forthcoming, we are sure to see even more memorable characters brought to life by Clooney. »

Written in Blood: An Interview With Ben Shillito On Writing Dead Cert

30 November 2009 11:55 PM, PST | FilmShaft.com | See recent FilmShaft.com news »

Dead Cert Writer and Co-Producer, Ben Shillito talks to Ed Whitfield about the perils of orchestrating an orgy of rampaging violence between Gangsters and Vampires on the page and how it all started in Colin Baker’s Tardis.

Tell me a little about your background. How do you get involved in screenwriting and what brought you to Dead Cert?

I’ve been writing since I was a child. It started with Dr Who scripts for Colin Baker’s doctor, mainly based around Tardis repair, bickering with Bonnie Langford and regenerating every few pages. A little later I read some lit. crit. and got it into my head that telling stories was a better idea than just plodding out a bunch of random scenes and then killing everyone off (a lesson I forgot on Dead Cert but promise to re-learn for my next project). Studying literature and film helped with the writing, »

Production Ramping Up on Indie Film Fetch

25 November 2009 11:30 AM, PST | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

Director C.M. Downs dropped us a line with an update on Fetch, the new feature he's working on for DrippingDead Films. Casting is now complete for the film, which was written by Trent Haaga and is gearing up to commence principal photography on January 9th in Easton, Kansas.

Downs describes Fetch as "a terrifying story of six cross-country campaigning cheerleaders who have been abducted in rural Alabama." It stars Christina DeRosa as Starlene Arbuckle, Shawn G. Smith as Punch, and Ashlynn Yennie (pictured) as Christina Jenkins. Smith previously appeared in the "30 Days of Night: Blood Trails" TV series while Yennie will be familiar to those who have seen The Human Centipede (First Sequence).

Haaga is probably best known as the writer of Deadgirl but also has several acting gigs under his belt including The Devil's Muse; Easter Bunny, Kill! Kill!; and Bonnie & Clyde vs. Dracula. Downs says of Haaga's Fetch »

Martyn’s Top Ten Vampire Films

11 November 2009 7:43 AM, PST | FilmShaft.com | See recent FilmShaft.com news »

The vampire has been a key figure in folklore, literature, television and cinema. Its popularity, at present, has never been so high. It is easy to see the appeal: immortality and sex. Since death is the fate that awaits us all, a creature that we invent and imbue with an indeterminate lifespan, captivates the collective imagination like no other. Due to sexual liberalism and relaxed censorship of the 1960s, the erotic sensibilities inherent in the mythology were allowed to fruition in cinema. What once was implied, could now be shown in all its sexy glory (see the films of Jean Rollin). Gothic horror and romanticism may be the classic home of the vampire, but in cinema, they have found a new place to spread wider-reaching nightmares.

In recent times, the everlasting monster has been tamed. Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight Saga saw them turn into something akin to vegetarians and teen heart-throbs, »

First Shot From The American

11 November 2009 5:04 AM, PST | WeAreMovieGeeks.com | See recent WeAreMovieGeeks.com news »

Clooney’s taking aim… at our excitement.

Okay, as lame as that may have been, there’s no denying how cool this first shot is from George Clooney’s upcoming film, The American.  It comes to us today courtesy of Collider, who had a man out at the American Film Market last week to snag up images just like this one.

In the film, Clooney plays a skilled assassin.  After a botched job, a lover ends up dead, and the assassin vows that his next job will be his last.  It could very well be just that, as he finds himself letting his guard down.

To this end, The American could be viewed as a sequel to From Dusk Till Dawn.  Actually, I kind of like to think everything Clooney appears in is a sequel to From Dusk Till Dawn with Seth Gecko running around the world trying to change »

10 November 2009 5:07 PM, PST | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

It's been about a year since we last brought you guys up-to-speed on Jim Spanos' vampire tale Maidenhead. Thankfully there's a lot more to talk about now, including the synopsis and even a new trailer!

The House of the Devil's A.J. Bowen and From Dusk Till Dawn's Michael Parks star in Maidenhead, which is truly an off-kilter vampire movie. Look for more headlines soon and be sure to check out the official Maidenhead site while you wait!

Synopsis

Poor Martin doesn't have much of a life. He doesn't have a girlfriend, he hasn't been sleeping well, and he still lives at home ... with his father, who is an obnoxious, bloodthirsty monster strapped to a bed. Did we mention he isn't sleeping well? Martin (A.J. Bowen of House of the Devil and The Signal) spends his days going numbly about the business of tending to his Dad's grisly needs. »

Ashley Greene Sees ‘The Apparition’

6 November 2009 5:38 AM, PST | Atomic Popcorn | See recent Atomic Popcorn news »

Twilight is out of control, and now its floodgates have burst, spilling its contents everywhere. Bit players such as Ashley Greene from the Twilight films are now getting genre work — in this case, it’s The Apparition for Joel Silver’s Dark Castle production house.

(To be fair, I have no idea how big or small of a role Greene plays in the Twilight films, because I haven’t seen either of them yet. All I know is that she isn’t one of the dynamic duo the films center around.)

The Apparition is apparently (*yawn*) based on true events, and revolves around “a young couple haunted by a supernatural presence unleashed during a college experiment.” Ooh. The Stanford Prison Experiment with a supernatural twist?

Production will start in early February with writer/director Todd Lincoln at the helm. He’s pretty much a newbie, only having done effects work »

Ashley Greene considers Apparition

6 November 2009 12:34 AM, PST | TotalFilm | See recent TotalFilm news »

Ashley Greene - currently better known to the world as Twilight's Alice Cullen, is looking to star in Dark Castle's Apparition. If she locks in a deal, she'll be playing one half of a couple who get seriously haunted by an evil supernatural presence unleashed during a college experiment. We're guessing it's not a beer monster, though we would probably watch that. Todd Lincoln, whose credits to date include being a production assistant on From Dusk Till Dawn and the producer of a documentary about a muscle-car enthusiast has been...

Twilight Saga's Ashley Greene May Be Seeing an Apparition

5 November 2009 5:58 PM, PST | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

Now that she's gained the kind of notoriety most actors only dream of by portraying Alice Cullen, adopted "sister" of Edward, in The Twilight Saga, Ashley Greene is undoubtedly fielding offers left and right. It's good to see her sticking with our genre as she appears to be in final talks to star in a new film entitled Apparition.

As Variety reports, Apparition, which is being readied by Joel Silver's Dark Castle for a February 1, 2010, start date, centers on a young couple haunted by a supernatural presence that's unleashed during a college experiment. [The] story's inspired by true events.

Todd Lincoln, who penned one of the screenplay drafts for the long-delayed Hack/Slash film adaptation and served as a production assistant on From Dusk Till Dawn, is writing and directing the hopefully spooky thriller.

With its production kick-off fast approaching, look for more on Apparition soon, especially who might be »

‘Smokin’ Aces 2: Assassins’ Ball’ Gets a Trailer

28 October 2009 11:30 AM, PDT | The Flickcast | See recent The Flickcast news »

Did you know that there was a sequel in the works for 2006’s Smokin’ Aces, with practically none of the original cast? Neither did we, until this trailer came across The Flickcast desk. It would be an interesting take, if it had any of the same people involved as the original film.

While the film doesn’t look like it will do much justice to Joe Carnahan’s original, the trailer was quite clever. It starts off by making sure we see some of our favorite faces from the original, such as Jeremy Piven, and then it throws a record scratch in to tell us that we won’t see them anymore.

Instead of a well-rounded cast consisting of Piven, Ray Liotta, Ben Affleck, Ryan Reynolds, Alicia Keys, and tons others, we now treated to the all-star cast of Vinnie Jones, Ernie Hudson, Tom Berenger, and the guy who had »

50 Influential Scream Queens: Part 1

27 October 2009 5:54 AM, PDT | Fangoria | See recent Fangoria news »

Given man's unwavering fascination with woman, it's no surprise that the female star acts as the anchor to a dominant portion of horror pictures. I mean really, who wants to see a bare chested man tearin ass through the woods screaming at the top of his lungs while a bladed assailant nips at his heels? I don't - I know that much, although I'm certain there are plenty of men who would disagree (and that's okay with me, to each his own!). The simple fact remains however, women bring a unique appeal and certain sensual atmosphere to film that no man ever could. And it's not all about gratuitous T&A.

There's a comforting quality in the hands of the heroine; a fascinating maternal strength that, as a man I cannot genuinely relate to. I can however admire, and in many cases it's nearly impossible to not admire the lone »
