The thought of winning a lottery jackpot on sites like Lottoland Lottery and Casino has crossed the minds of a lot of people. You see, part of what makes the lottery such a thrilling event is the uncertainty of the outcome and the inexplicable joy of being the lucky winner, which makes it a perfect plot for film producers.
Some of the movies about winning the lottery are based on true events, while others are based on mere fiction. However, what stands out in these movies is how producers exaggerate the events to make them more entertaining. This write-up reviews four lottery movies that’ll quench your thirst for thrilling cinematic experience.
1. Waking Ned Devine (1998)
Imagine being so happy that it takes not just your breath but also your life away! This is exactly what happened to Ned Devine in this thriller released twenty-five years ago.

Nicolas Cage, one of the most talented actors of our time is not a stranger to comic book movies. We have seen him having a history with Marvel, first portraying the anti-hero Ghost Rider in two feature films, then voicing Spider-Man Noir in 2018’s animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. However, while talking about his further involvement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Cage told Variety that he does not need to be in the MCU.
Nicolas Cage in It Could Happen to You
Seems like he will be back. Nicolas Cage is reportedly in talks to star in the live-action Spider-Man Noir show, a live-action Marvel series set against the backdrop of 1930s New York City. At present, there is no plot details have been out about the new Spider-Man Noir show, but getting Nicolas Cage on board will surely give hype to the show.
Suggested“I can just do it in a movie.

“Wonka” reigns again on the VOD charts, but the week’s real star is Amazon/MGM’s “American Fiction.” Driven by its five Oscar nominations and continued success at the box office, it reached #2 at Apple TV/iTunes on Saturday and is currently #4. Not bad for a racial satire that’s grossed $17 million to date.
It suggests the film will earn substantially more than its theatrical take, reflecting smart strategy: While Amazon makes movies for streaming, it recognizes (like Apple) the value of making VOD its first at-home platform. It’s also a good argument that the Netflix Mo of deemphasizing theatrical and skipping VOD misses opportunities to get awards and audience traction.
“Oppenheimer” (Universal) repeats as #2 on two charts, though its reduced price keeps it from making Vudu revenue-driven list. Christopher Nolan’s Oscar frontrunner has been the strongest film since its home-viewing debut three months ago, now sustained by Oscar nomination-leading total.

The term "nepo baby" tends to carry a negative connotation, but it doesn't have to. Take the Deschanel sisters, Emily and Zooey. Their mother, Mary Jo Deschanel (née Weir), began acting in the 1960s and has dozens of film and TV credits to her name, from "2010: The Year We Make Contact" to "Twin Peaks." Their father, Caleb Deschanel, is likewise a decorated director and cinematographer whose career spans 50 years, having collaborated with filmmakers like Philip Kaufman, Carroll Ballard, William Friedkin, Richard Donner, Roland Emmerich, and Christopher McQuarrie.
In the face of that, "nepo babies" Emily and Zooey Deschanel have emerged as artists fully worthy of admiration on their own merits. On top of forming one-half of the successful indie pop group She & Him, Zooey Deschanel spring-boarded from her early breakout roles in the hits "Almost Famous" and "Elf" into an ongoing career as a movie star, in addition to...

Emily Deschanel and her sister, Zooey Deschanel, have been gracing our screens for years, but did you know that success in Hollywood has been in the family for generations?
The Deschanels' parents were both established in the entertainment industry long before the birth of their daughters. Their father, Caleb Deschanel, is an Oscar-nominated cinematographer. He was first nominated for an Academy Award in cinematography in 1983 for the film "The Right Stuff," followed by "The Natural" in 1984 and "Fly Away Home" in 1996. Additionally, 2000's "The Patriot," 2004's "The Passion of Christ," and 2018's "Never Look Away" all netted him nominations. He is also a member of the National Film Preservation Board of the Library of Congress.

Whenever you see a film that opens with the words “based on real events”, you can be sure of two things. One, you’re going to have a good time. Two, that this film will probably contain about as much factual material as I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter! contains butter.
But we don’t care!
We’re not just talking about biopics or historical films here, we’re talking about crime movies like Pain & Gain, Catch Me If You Can, romances like It Could Happen to You, and crime romances like I Love You Phillip Morris. And of course the horror genre absolutely loves a “Based On A True Story” title card and poster slogan. The Amityville Horror, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and all The Conjuring movies have one (making the last the first ever Based On A True Cinematic Universe).
So the question is,...

“Hurt but not defeated.” That’s the direction filmmaker Martha Coolidge gave to her star Nicolas Cage as they shot the pivotal breakup scene in the ’80s classic “Valley Girl.” In a filmed conversation from 2003 between the two for the film’s twentieth anniversary, Cage told Coolidge that he has “used that direction ever since” in all of his work.
As the iconic ’80s spin on “Romeo and Juliet” celebrates its 40th anniversary on April 29, and Cage returns to the big screen with his latest film “Renfield” — in which he plays the centuries old Prince of Darkness himself, Count Dracula, recovering from the latest attempt on his life with his familiar Renfield (Nicholas Hoult) in New Orleans — it’s clear that the impact of her words still resonate in the performances of the idiosyncratic actor.
He was just 17 years old when he auditioned for the role that would change his life.

Sure, there’s “Cage Rage” but where’s the Cage comedy?
Screen legend Nicolas Cage revealed that even he is surprised it’s been a minute since his comedic chops have been on the big screen. The “Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent” actor told the Los Angeles Times that with his decades-spanning career, it’s confusing that there seems to be a drought of comedies in theaters.
“I’ve been scratching my head a little bit as to why Hollywood wasn’t offering me comedies anymore,” Cage said. “I had done ‘Raising Arizona’ and ‘Honeymoon in Vegas’ and ‘It Could Happen to You’ and ‘Moonstruck.’ I was just sort of like, ‘Where did that option go?'”
Cage pointed to the indie film “Unbearable Weight,” adding, “I think this movie will help with that.”

When IndieWire first launched at Sundance in 1996, it probably didn’t seem like an industry newsletter strictly focused on non-studio films would have much reason to write about Nicolas Cage. Yes, the eccentric “Wild at Heart” star was just a few weeks away from winning an Oscar for his performance in “Leaving Las Vegas,” but his roles had otherwise been trending away from the experimentation that defined the early portion of his career, and towards more conventional multiplex fare like “Guarding Tess” and “It Could Happen to You.” By that point, anyone reading the Hollywood trades already knew that Cage’s next movie would be “The Rock” — if a time-traveler told them that Cage was going to wear John Travolta’s face in a John Woo pistol opera the following summer, odds are they’d say “yeah, that makes sense.”

Seth MacFarlane Returns to an Uptempo Take on Big-Band Jazz With New Album, ‘Blue Skies’ (Exclusive)
For Seth MacFarlane, “blue” means less balladic. He’s announcing a new album on the way, “Blue Skies,” and says it marks a return to a more swinging style than the softer approach he employed on his last record.
Out May 20, the seventh album from the “Family Guy” creator and jazz cat will again see him working with a catalog of classics, and again see him working closely with arranger and conductor Andrew Cottee. Still, it’ll mark a turnaround from their previous release.
“I have long been a fan of Andrew Cottee’s supremely artful and buoyant orchestrations,” MacFarlane tells Variety. “So after our last collaboration, ‘Once in A While,’ a ballad-themed record, I really wanted to hear what he could do with an up-tempo album. As always, Andrew did not disappoint. His arrangements of these 14 songs, carefully selected by the two of us, are yet another shining example...

Seymour Cassel, an Oscar-nominated longtime actor whose 200-plus screen credits include several John Cassavetes movies and three for Wes Anderson, died Sunday of Alzheimer’s complications in Los Angeles. He was 84.
Cassel scored a Supporting Actor Oscar nom for Cassavetes’ 1968 film Faces, a role that also earned him a trophy from the National Society of Film Critics. He appeared in about a half-dozen of Cassavetes’ films and also acted opposite him in a few others. Anderson cast Cassel in his films The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (2004), The Royal Tenenbaums (2001) and Rushmore (1998).
Cassel also was active in pre-merger SAG politics, running for national president in 2007 and 2009.
Born on January 22, 1935, in Detroit, Cassel’s film debut was an uncredited role in Cassavetes’ Shadows (1958). We would co-star alongside the filmmaker-actor in the early-’60s movies The Webster Boy, Too Late Blues — which Cassavetes also helmed — and The Killers, which was Ronald Reagan’s last movie.

Film editor Barry Malkin, a two-time Oscar nominee best known for his many collaborations with Francis Ford Coppola, died Thursday. He was 80.
Malkin began his career in 1963 as an apprentice to Dede Allen on Elia Kazan’s “America America.” He was first credited as an editor for his work on “The Patty Duke Show.” Through his friendship with editor and director Aram Avakian, Malkin was introduced to Francis Ford Coppola, and was hired to edit Coppola’s 1969 film “The Rain People.”
“The Rain People” began a long collaboration between the director and editor. Malkin would work either by himself or as part of the editing team on eight additional Coppola productions. Most significantly, Malkin worked on three “Godfather” projects: “The Godfather, Part II” alongside Richard Marks and Peter Zinner in 1974; “The Godfather Saga,” which edited “The Godfather” parts one and two into a chronological TV miniseries featuring scenes not included in the theatrical releases,...

For a deeply satisfying movie that hinges on a career-defining performance from one of modern cinema’s most fascinating stars, Ridley Scott’s “Matchstick Men” has a strange way of falling through the cracks. Released to a tepid response in September 2003, this slippery tale of a con artist with a guilty conscience was too much of a tweener to find the audience it deserved, and — much like its twitchy protagonist — was also conflicted about swindling people out of their money. For a major Hollywood film that climaxes with a bare-assed Nicolas Cage running around an L.A. parking garage, its “B” Cinemascore is borderline miraculous.
Even now, 15 years to the month since its debut, “Matchstick Men” lurks in the dark recesses of basic cable. Surf a few channels up from the big game on a Sunday afternoon and you’ll often find it playing on a semi-automatic loop, as if...

Nicolas Cage has a formidable reputation, which is unsurprising given that he has been performing onscreen since 1981, but that was long before the internet got hold of him and his work. Now, in the fourth decade of a distinguished career, the Academy Award winner and his back catalogue are the inspiration for a range of ‘memes’ based on everything from his hair, to his tendency to deliver performances that seem to be somewhat off-the-wall.
He may not have enjoyed much box office success in recent years, but Nicolas Cage has a very devoted fan base that have a particular appreciation for projects and scenes in which he has a chance to go ‘Full Cage.’ This usually involves making some scary faces – often with wide eyes and a ghoulish grin – shouting very loudly, and gesticulating wildly. There may be screaming involved, and another person is very often the focus of his menace.

Each day, we’ll post our top picks from one specific group—say, vampire movies or slasher flicks—and give you the chance to vote on which is your favorite. On Oct. 31, EW will reveal your top choices. Today, we’re ready to talk about those movies that hit a little too close to home. All horror movies prey on the psychological premise that there's beastliness roiling within everyone. But let's get real: You don't see news reports about werewolves, vampires,...

The sudden death of Shane Bitney Crone‘s life partner Tom Bridegroom was the catalyst for the Youtube video “It Could Happen to You“. Crone created it to honor his partner and show the world what can happen when two people committed to each other are legally barred from the rights and protections afforded by marriage. Since its posting, that video has racked up more than four million views, and it has now been developed into a feature length documentary called Bridegroom. Linda Bloodworth-Thomason (Designing Women) produced and directed the feature which previously aired on Own and is available for purchase and download just today.
Bridegroom includes interviews, photos and video footage that shed light on the struggles that same-sex couples face due to marriage inequality, and TheBacklot is proud to share this exclusive clip from the film…

It was only May of last year when Shane Bitney Crone posted a YouTube video called “It Could Happen To You,” a very sad and moving 10-minute clip about his love Tom Bridegroom, who died after falling from a roof while taking pictures with friends. Bridegroom’s family never accepted their son’s gayness and they forbade Crone from attending his funeral, threatening him with violence if he tried.
Now Crone’s harrowing story has moved off of YouTube and into the documentary circuit. Bridegroom (which is out on DVD Nov. 19 and available on Netflix Instant now) aired on Own in early November and inspired rave reviews from Own heroine Oprah Winfrey and scores of celebrity admirers, including President Bill Clinton.
Perhaps that’s not terribly surprising considering Bridegroom‘s director Linda Bloodworth-Thomason, who created Designing Women and Evening Shade as well as several episodes of M*A*S...

Be honest: every time you play the lottery, the same fantasy runs through your head, of you sitting in a bath full of champagne, wearing a top hat and monocle, and throwing wads of cash into the air gleefully. Before you’ve even left the shop, you’ve spent half the money that you’re almost definitely destined to win, no matter what the actual odds.
Feeding this fantasy is the many, many movies that have involved lottery wins, and the results for the winners. They are invariably everyman characters, just like you, who need an escape from the mediocrity of mundane life, and who see their universe changed entirely by the huge injection of cash brought when the right numbers come in.
Now more than ever, the experience of buying a ticket is even easier, so that dream can be fed without even needing to go to the shop,...

It's like something out of a movie. Literally. The movie is It Could Happen to You, starring Nicolas Cage and Bridget Fonda. And it did happen, for Aurora Kephart, a 25-year-old waitress and bartender at Conway's Restaurant and Lounge in Springfield, Ore., who regularly receives lottery tickets in lieu of tips from her regulars. "He buys multiple tickets and he'll hold out the tickets and say, 'Pick which one you want,'" she told ABC News about one customer in particular. "That's a normal thing between us." Recently, he let her pick two unplayed Keno tickets. She did and won $5 on the first ticket that she scanned. Not too shabby! She then scanned the second one...

Shane Bitney Crone is the subject of "Bridegroom," the most crowd-funded documentary to-date, which centers on the tragic love story between Crone and his deceased boyfriend, Tom Bridegroom. Crone's painful story went viral after the then 26-year-old posted a YouTube video called "It Could Happen to You," detailing his plight in the aftermath of the sudden death of his beloved.
Crone was prohibited access to Bridegroom's body and belongings, and threatened with physical harm if he tried to attend the funeral of his partner of nearly six years. "I was the most important person in Tom's life," Shane details in the video. "And [his family was] trying to erase me from existence."
Having agreed with Tom early on not to settle for a domestic partnership, and dreaming of the day they would marry, Crone -- who has become a champion of the "marriage equality" cause -- had a reason to stand on...

Now that Rick is finally done with his hallucinations and met Michonne, maybe we will get some ass-kicking tonight? Someone's gotta go rescue Maggie and Glenn from Merle and the Governor. Tonight's episode entitled "When The Dead Come Knocking" was directed by Dan Sackheim.
Spoiler Alert: Do not read any further if you haven't watched the episode yet. This is a recap with specific details from the episode. Continue only if you have watched it.
This episode started with Merle menacing Glenn in a wooden shack. Merle was still upset about that rooftop incident back in season 1. Glenn explained that the group went back for Merle, even T-Dog, but when Merle learned that T-Dog didn't make it, he grimaced "I hope he went slow." Glenn still refused to talk even while being tortured. Maggie listened while also tied to a chair nearby.

Though it's been 12 years since we last saw a film from director Andrew Bergman (the man behind films like Stripteasee, It Could Happen to You and Honeymoon in Vegas), that's not stopping the filmmaker from amassing an interesting cast for a new comedy. Deadline has word that Bergman is reuniting with producer Mike Lobell (who was also behind those three aforementioned films) for a film called A Film By Alan Stuart Eisner, and Robin Williams, Shirley MacLaine and breakout Project X star Oliver Cooper are attached to star with Rob Reiner set to make some sort of cameo in the comedy as well. More below! Deadline says film follows a young documentary filmmaker with a burning desire to bring his family’s amazing and bizarre World War II history to the screen. Considering Reiner's role in This is Spinal Tap, I'm wondering if he has some kind of mentor role...

The last time Robin Williams made a live-action turn, it was Old Dogs — therefore, I can only imagine this next project being a guaranteed improvement. Said project, if you’d care to know, is A Film By Alan Stuart Eisner, which Deadline has pegged as the joining of Williams, Shirley MacLaine, Oliver Cooper (Project X)*, and Rob Reiner, the lattermost of whom is taking a cameo role.
Andy Bergman (The Freshman, It Could Happen to You) has written and will direct the film, which revolves around a young, aspiring documentarian trying to do his family’s World War II history justice via the power of film. (It’s a bit of a no-brainer that Cooper would take Film‘s primary spot. The rest is up in the air.)
The project needs a bit more before it can actually go forward, seeing as producer Mike Lobell has yet to actually procure the proper financing.

Exclusive: Writer/director Andy Bergman has re-teamed with producer Mike Lobell on A Film By Alan Stuart Eisner, an ensemble comedy which so far has Project X‘s Oliver Cooper, Shirley MacLaine and Robin Williams attached, with Rob Reiner making a cameo, Lobell tells me. The comedy follows a young documentary filmmaker with a burning desire to bring his family’s amazing and bizarre World War II history to the screen. Bergman wrote the script. He and Lobell made The Freshman, Honeymoon In Vegas, It Could Happen to You and Striptease together. Lobell is in the process of pulling together the financing. This comes after he ended a 14-year odyssey to produce a remake of Gambit, which Michael Hoffman directed from a script by Joel and Ethan Coen. Colin Firth, Cameron Diaz and Alan Rickman star and CBS Films releases October 12.

The Tourist You've heard of crimes of passion. The Tourist is the opposite. It's a film so deprived of spirit or spontaneity that it seems to vanish from existence the moment its credits roll — or at least it would were it not for the spectacularly inane surprise ending, carelessly followed by a wholly inappropriate song selection (by the nonetheless great Muse, who were also weirdly featured in the film's trailer). Both inclusions close an already inert romance caper on a final, "Fuck you, we really don't care." Which is fine, because I didn't either. How could anyone? There are several ways to count the titles and they result in different orders. I've opted to do it by character count, not including spaces.
point of contention: Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope used to simply be called Star Wars. Now, people add the episode tags because there are so many of them... If you allow for the revised official titling, Star Wars makes the top ten, tying for #9

Paramount Centennial Collection Paramount Studios releases two more classic titles from its library on special edition DVD: The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance is John Ford’s last masterpiece (although he would go on to direct two more very good films) from 1962: about an Eastern lawyer (James Stewart) who travels west only to find primal brutality in the form of sadistic bandit Liberty Valance (Lee Marvin, great as always) and pragmatic brutality in local rancher Tom Doniphon (John Wayne), each two sides of a coin that represent a way of life slowly dying out as Stewart’s modern brand of civilization tames the West. A perfect film, period. Howard Hawks’ El Dorado is essentially a remake of his earlier classic Rio Bravo, with John Wayne, Robert Mitchum and a young James Caan as lawmen joining forces against corrupt cattle barons. Great fun. Two disc sets.

Musician Isaac Hayes has died. He was 65.
Hayes passed away on Sunday morning at a Memphis, Tennessee hospital. The cause of death has yet to be confirmed.
According to reports, the songwriter was rushed to Baptist East Hospital after receiving a call from Hayes' wife who found him lying near a treadmill in their home.
Police at The Shelby County Sheriff's Office are investigating the star's death, but do not believe foul play was a factor.
Born in 1942 in Covington, Tennessee, Hayes was raised by his maternal grandparents, who moved the family to Memphis when he was six.
Hayes' early ambitions of becoming a doctor were redirected when he won a talent contest in ninth grade, singing Nat King Cole's Looking Back.
A self-taught musician, he was hired in 1964 by Tennessee-based Stax Records as a backup pianist, working as a session musician for music greats including Otis Redding. He then paved his way to stardom with the release of his album Hot Buttered Soul in 1969.
The soul singer then broke out with a number one hit with the 1971 Grammy Award-winning Theme From Shaft from the iconic movie, starring actor Richard Roundtree.
Hayes' chart-topping singles also include Hold On, I'm Coming and Soul Man.
In the early 1970s, Hayes continued to forge a path for disco and urban-contemporary music, making way for legendary singers like Barry White.
In a 1999 interview reflecting on his career he said of his influence: "I knew nothing about the business, or trends and things like that. I think it was a matter of timing. I didn't know what was unfolding."
In addition to music, Hayes appeared in several movies, including It Could Happen to You with Nicolas Cage, Ninth Street with Martin Sheen and Reindeer Games, starring Ben Affleck.
Hayes enjoyed success as a radio show host in New York City from 1996 to 2002, and later in Memphis.
His distinctive voice can also be heard as part of Nickelodeon's "Nick at Nite" programme and in scenes from his role as Chef during a stint on animated TV show South Park.
