This week, one of Metallica's albums is named the top-selling album in the Nielsen SoundScan era. Their 1991 self-titled studio album "Metallica" has sold more than 15,490,000 copies, surpassing previously best-selling effort, Shania Twain's "Come on Over" which pulled in around 15,487,000 units to date.
This achievement gives the band the No. 1 position on Nielsen's "release to date" chart and makes them the first hard rock act to top the list as the previous champs were ranging from mainstream pop, rock and country musics. Whitney Houston's "The Bodyguard [Original Soundtrack]" ruled the chart in 1991, Alanis Morissette's "Jagged Little Pill" topped the list in 1996, and Shania Twain's "Come on Over" led the pack in 2001.
Beside pulling in an impressive selling number, "Metallica" album has also earned the James Hetfield-fronted band a Golden Gramophone for Best Metal Performance with Vocal at 1992 Grammy Awards. At the same year moreover, they took home Best

'Avatar's' 'I See You' and Other Earworms

This year's Golden Globes had some surprises and let-downs for everyone, but one of the stranger picks (in my opinion, anyway) was a nod for the Avatar theme by Leona Lewis, "I See You." Like it or not, this pop confection has become quite the ear worm and even has worn some fans of the film down to the point where they like it. (Maybe it's Stockholm syndrome?)
Coincidentally, James Cameron's Titanic also served up a seriously damaging, and perhaps more potent, ear worm in the form of Céline Dion's Oscar-winning song "My Heart Will Go On," written by James Horner and Will Jennings. Like it or not, Dion's soaring vocals stuck with you long after leaving the theater, probably because it was being played everywhere.
Others include "I Will Always Love You" by Whitney Houston from The Bodyguard, which she also starred in with Kevin Costner, "The

When Eminem decided that his status as a superstar musician gave him the credentials to become an actor, the result was “8 Mile,” an Oscar-nominated instant classic; Mariah Carey’s 2001 bomb “Glitter” might just be the worst movie ever made. Somewhere in between, we’ve had Britney’s “Crossroads,” Whitney Houston’s “The Bodyguard,” 50 Cent’s “Get Rich or Die Tryin’,” and dozens of other boundary-defying debuts. Now, it’s time for Christina Aguilera to finally make the move – and one of her famous co-stars thinks Xtina has what it takes.
“I hear she’s wonderful,” explained Stanley Tucci, the accomplished veteran actor/writer/director of more than 80 movies and TV shows, who has been cast alongside Aguilera in “Burlesque,” also starring Cher, Kristen Bell and Cam Gigandet. “I’ve been talking to some of the people at the studio, and everyone is thrilled with her.”

(Ross McCall and Eric Roberts, left, in "Crash.")
By Terry Keefe
(This article is currently appearing in this month's Venice Magazine.)
It isn’t necessarily great news for an actor to hear that the television series they’ve been starring in is going to be “retooled” in its second season. Your character can be retooled right out the door. Or, it can develop significantly. The latter has fortunately been the case for actor Ross McCall, who has been playing Kenny Battalgia on “Crash” for both of its two seasons. Earlier in the year, veteran producer and writer Ira Steven Behr (“Deep Space Nine”) was brought on as the new show runner, and he merged Kenny’s storyline with that of billionaire Seth Blanchard, the billionaire played by Eric Roberts in the new season, and the major plot focus. Blanchard has a spiritual reawakening which causes him to forgo the building of a new L.

There was much hullabaloo with the rumors that Whitney Houston, he Whitney Houston, is set to visit Wisteria Lane with a recurring role on Desperate Housewives. It was reported that the come-backing diva was in negotiations with ABC people for a recurring role.
Reps for Desperate Housewives had denied these rumors and said no such thing is happening. Houston, who recently made a splash with her Oprah interview and new album, is of course no stranger to acting. Other than The Bodyguard, Waiting to Exhale, and The Preacher's Wife, she had made a cameo appearance as herself on Boston Public in 2003.

Whitney Houston was back on top last week thanks to her comeback album, I Look To You. But for the past decade-plus, the singer told Oprah Winfrey on Monday, her life has been a roller coaster of drugs, jealousy, emotional abuse and a chaotic, "crazy love" with ex-husband Bobby Brown.
"He was my drug," Houston, 46, said on the season premiere of "The Oprah Winfrey Show." "I didn't do anything without him. I wasn't getting high by myself. It was me and him together, and we were partners, and that's what my high was — him. He and I being together, and whatever we did, we did it together. No matter what, we did it together."

Whitney Houston has admitted that she and her ex-husband Bobby Brown used to freebase cocaine in marijuana joints. Speaking on The Oprah Winfrey Show, the singer again denied smoking crack cocaine with a pipe. Houston said: "Before The Bodyguard it was very light. After The Bodyguard it started getting heavy. Cocaine. Marijuana. We were lacing our marijuana with base. We would buy a kilo. "We were not doing pipe smoking. You roll it up and you smoke it in your weed. It's almost like heroin-cocaine speedballs but you level it off with marijuana, okay?" (more)

When people say they worship at the altar of their favorite famous hottie, they typically don't mean literally.
Not so for Shia Labeouf.
Fans of the Transformers star have created the Church of Shiantology, complete with the star's face superimposed on iconic religious works of art. And nothing is sacred.
The Disturbia actor disturbingly stands on the mountaintop, gets cradled by (a Shia-faced) Madonna and appears repeatedly on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. Oh, and apparently he took over for both Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner in The Bodyguard. (Yeah, we're not really sure why this image landed on the holy site either).

The Box Office success of the Transformers franchise is paving the way for another attempt at a live-action Voltron movie.
Atlas Entertainment has acquired the film rights from owners World Events Productions, according to Risky Biz. Previously, Fox production company New Regency and then Relativity Media had each been interested in the project.
Voltron was a Japanese animated TV series that aired from 1984-1985, showing the exploits of five pilot-controlled robot lions that can combine into the massive, sword-wielding title character to fend off alien invaders.
A second series was made in the 90s and there have also been toys and comic books.
Atlas's Charles Roven, who was a producer on The Dark Knight, said: "It's undeniably impressive that Voltron has sustained itself globally for a quarter of a century."
World Events' Ted Koplar said: "Unlike other robotic action movies, Voltron is the personification of the human spirit, a quality
