Going To The Movies With Hollywood's Crappiest Christmas Gifts

23 December 2009 12:00 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Yesterday, MTV's Eric Ditzian ran through five of the best movie gifts -- which is to say, gifts given in movies -- a person could ask for. From Buzz Lightyear in "Toy Story" (personally, I'd prefer a TurboMan from "Jingle All the Way") to the self-lacing Nike sneakers in "Back to the Future Part II," Eric shared some great holiday gift ideas. You probably won't be able to get your hands on any of them at this late hour, but you can at least look at the pictures and sigh wistfully at the missed opportunities.

I'm back today with another gifts list. Except these are prezzies that you're not going to find under the tree when you stumble into the living room on the morning of December 25. The history of cinema is rife with great examples of poor gift-giving, and I've collected some of the worst right here. So hit »

Add These Glorious Cinematic Gifts To Your Christmas Wish List

22 December 2009 1:00 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Christmas is almost upon us, and if you haven't checked everything and everyone off your holiday shopping list, you're a terrible person. We kid! But seriously: nothing says "You're important to me" like a last-minute trip to the mall for scented candles or your third consecutive pair of Christmas mittens.

We've all gotten those crappy goodies during less-than-memorable family get-togethers, just as we've all been given those prezzies that are so superlative they make our hearts sing. And you know who gets the best gifts of all? People in the movies. Before you check under the tree this year to see if your loved ones think you've been naughty or nice, check out our picks for the best presents in movie history.

Yankees Vs. Phillies In The World Series? Give Me The Best Fictional Baseball Teams In Movie History!

29 October 2009 1:00 PM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

I'm a Mets fan, so these days I prefer to consume my baseball in fictional terms rather than deal with the reality that my boys are a bunch of overpaid, oft-injured embarrassments to the triumphant – if drug scandal-tinged – legacy of Strawberry, Hernandez and Gooden.

Confronted with the choice to root for the Yankees or the Phillies in this year's World Series – or even the option to watch the action – I plan to opt for nearly anything else. My girlfriend wants to take in the last couple episodes of "The Rachel Zoe Project" on TiVo? Sign me up! My elderly neighbor needs me to wash her hosiery? I'm there! And if I get the chance, I'm going to pop in a DVD and take in some of the great fictional baseball teams in movie history to forget about this season. Here are my picks:

'Back To The Future Part II' Gives Us A One-Cola Future In Today's eBay Prop-Watch

25 September 2009 1:00 PM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

I'm torn by today's eBay Prop-Watch pick. It's suspicious: the seller is very up front about there being no certificate of authenticity. On the other hand, it's from "Back to the Future Part II." Perhaps not the best of the "Back to the Future" movies, but definitely the most imaginative of the three.

See, "Back to the Future Part II" jumps around in time far more than either of the other two. We see present-day 1980s, an alternate present in which Biff's possession of a sports almanac from the future leads to a "Mad Max"-like dystopia, the '50s, the Wild West and -- best of all -- the future. A future filled with flying cars and hoverboards, robot waiters and a one-cola world. Pepsi Perfect is apparently the choice of the next generation.

And here it is. I wonder what kind of liquid is in that funky-looking bottle. »

Elijah Wood Discusses Sin City, 9 and The Hobbit

5 September 2009 1:16 PM, PDT | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

Actor Elijah Wood is the rare example of a child actor who's made the transition into adulthood relatively unscathed by the ravages of Hollywood. After a part in Back to the Future Part II at the tender young age of eight, Wood went on to star in Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings (Lotr) trilogy, forever becoming identified with Hobbits. Wood is still questioned about the role, even more so now that production on Guillermo del Toro's Lotr prequel, The Hobbit, is underway.

In a recent interview to promote his new movie, 9, Wood was asked who he thinks would make a great choice to play Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit.

That's a tough one. I think Ian Holm really set a high bar for that performance. He really did an extraordinary job, and he really made it his own. There's a lot of quirkiness to that character. »

Finally Facing The Michael Jackson Paradox

6 July 2009 3:45 PM, PDT | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

The producer for our evening newscast made an astute comment to me today. He said before Michael Jackson's death, a poll of how he's regarded by people would have been evenly split: 50-percent that he's an unparalleled musical talent, a great man, whose "eccentricities" are part of his genius; and 50-percent that he's a sick person, whose obvious musical greatness becomes secondary to his bizarre life and inappropriate enjoyment of the company of young boys. I told my producer I thought he was right, and that since Jackson's death, that ratio has shifted to more like 95-percent positive and 5-percent negative, at least as reflected by the media. Now, as we're seeing the last few days, those in that minority are beginning to make themselves heard. Long Island congressman Peter »

Michael Jackson And 10 Classic Movie Moments That Would Not Exist Without Him

1 July 2009 10:00 AM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Last week’s sad death of Michael Jackson has all of us in the MTV newsroom working overtime these days, for obvious reasons. We already ran a story on Mj’s direct influence in movies and TV including “The Wiz” and “The Simpsons.” What’s even more impressive is the movies he inspired without even appearing in them.

Below are ten classic film moments that would not exist if Michael Jackson never moonwalked across our planet and into out hearts. What’s your favorite?

“Back to the Future” trilogy

In “Back to the Future Part II,” we got a peek at the theme restaurants of 2015 via an order-taking television with a “waiter” hybrid of Mj and Max Headroom. In the trilogy’s final entry, set in the Old West, Marty McFly avoids getting shot by moonwalking away from some evil cowboys.

Here’s our interview. 1. Tell us about yourself, where are you from, and what is your background in acting? I was born in Houston, Texas. My family moved to San Francisco when I was two. Kanye West Likes Your Shoes, Especially If He Designed Them

27 May 2009 1:05 PM, PDT | MTV Newsroom | See recent MTV Newsroom news »

By Jayson Rodriguez

Kanye West always stays fresh in the wardrobe department, but that doesn’t mean he can’t big someone else up for their fashion sense.

“Oh, I like your shoes,” ‘Ye told Bun B as he passed him backstage at the Drake show last night in New York.

Bun, of course, had on the Nike Air Yeezys. The kicks — a mix of Michael J. Fox’s shoes in “Back to the Future Part II” and classic Air Jordans with an array of sensibilities from the swoosh — were designed by Kanye. ‘Ye and Bun shared a laugh when they both looked down at the charcoal pair on the Ugk rapper’s feet.

“I got a big foot and I be needing a shoe that’s comfortable, but still fly,” Bun told Kanye. “Just because I’m big don’t mean I can’t be fresh.”

Chris Fisher Delves Deep Into S. Darko: A Donnie Darko Tale

11 May 2009 6:29 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

The director of this new Donnie Darko tale talks about this continuation of the classic Richard Kelly film.

Chris Fisher has worked in both TV and film before, directing films such as Dirty and also episodes for TV shows such as Chuck and Cold Case. Now he's going back into the world director Richard Kelly created in his 2001 cult classic Donnie Darko with the straight-to-dvd sequel, S. Darko: A Donnie Darko Tale, which will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on May 12. I had the chance to speak with Fisher over the phone about his new film, and here's what he had to say.

I was first curious about how you first learned about this project and what got you interested in taking the helm for this?

Chris Fisher: I first heard of it when my agent called me and said that a company had a new script that »

Elisabeth Shue is Gobbled Up By 3-D Pirahna

14 April 2009 1:49 AM, PDT | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

It's astonishing to learn Elisabeth Shue has now signed on to star in Alexandre Aja's remake Piranha 3-D. I don't say this because I am not looking forward to the film, because I am, but because Shue had made a career for herself after I remember seeing her for the first time in 1984 in The Karate Kid, then in 1987's Adventures in Babysitting, followed by her co-starring role with Tom Cruise in Cocktail (a guilty pleasure of mine), she played Jennifer in Back to the Future Part II and III and in 1995 she hit the pinnacle as she was nominated for a Best Actress Oscar for her role in Leaving Las Vegas. Fast forward to today and the last time I saw her she was playing herself in the vastly over-rated Hamlet 2. I guess I should look at what happened as a natural progression. Roles in Hollow Man »

Elisabeth Shue in Talks for Piranha 3-D

12 April 2009 2:30 PM, PDT | WorstPreviews.com | See recent Worst Previews news »

A few week ago, a source revealed to FEARnet that Elisabeth Shue was in talks to join the upcoming Alexandre Aja-directed "Piranha" remake. The site has been trying to get a confirmation, but has only received a message from The Weinstein Company that they will look into this. Moviehole is now reporting that several sources close to the film, including one writer, have all confirmed that Shue is indeed in negotiations to play the female lead. She will be starring as Sherrif Julie Forester, a take-charge authority figure in the community of Lake Victoria - where the action takes place. She's the mother of Laura, Zane and Jake (one of the central characters in the film - the shy teenager who gets to prove his worth when human-eating fish threaten his family and friends). The 45-year-old Shue is best known for such films as "The Karate Kid," "Adventures in Babysitting, »

Remakes And Sequels: Have We Reached Overload Yet?

27 February 2009 8:28 PM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Now to start off no one can say that remakes and sequels are a new thing - it’s a notion that has been around for almost a hundred years. The first example of either (that I could find) being 1916’s Fall of a Nation (a sequel to the of 1915 film Birth of a Nation).

But lately (perhaps over the last 15 years or so), they have come not only to full fruition and thus extremely noticeable as a trend - but also they seem to be getting made left, right and center. Now why is that? Why is that it’s only recently that it’s become so popular to remake or make a sequel out of something?

Well let’s start with remakes…

The earliest remake (again, that I could find - I apologize if I’ve overlooked something) is 1919’s Marked Men (a remake of the 1916 film The »

10 Movies That Need Sneaker Tie-Ins

12 February 2009 10:30 AM, PST | Spout.com | See recent Spout news »

Late last month, Nike unleashed the latest movie-themed sneaker, a yellow shoe with brown fur coming out of the top inspired by Teen Wolf (never mind that in the film the title character wears Adidas). Between this and the recent Back to the Future Part II tie-ins, Michael J. Fox seems to be a big influence on the world of sneaker collecting, and so it may only be a matter of time before we see Nike unveil a Doc Hollywood design. Actually, it may only be a matter of time before we see a lot of film-inspired shoes we wouldn’t expect. Already, <a href="http://www.sneakerf »
