Jesse Ventura's Top Five Movies Kick Ass

Maybe he ain't got time to bleed, but Jesse Ventura had time to sit down with Rotten Tomatoes to reveal his top five films. And I have to say, it's a pretty damn good collection.

A co-star of Schwarzenegger in Predator, the former pro wrestler and Minnesota governor has a new show that debuted this week called Conspiracy Theory. In fact, it garnered 1.6 million viewers on truTV, a record for a debut on the cable outlet. If you read Ventura's latest book, you know he's pretty deeply entrenched in conspiracy theories, and I think for a lot of people, they're quiet obsessions - UFOs, JFK, 9/11, and on and on.

There's even a conspiracy theory movie on his top five, and it's the best example of that sort of thing we have. I like that Ventura specifically mentions the editing in JFK, because I don't know that I've ever seen a better edited film. »

Stephen King Writing 'Shining' Sequel

Best selling author, Stephen King, has shocked fans with the announcement that he is writing a sequel to his famous book "The Shining". The 1977 novel was adapted for the big screen three years after it hit retailer shelves and the film directed by Stanley Kubrick (Full Metal Jacket) and starring Jack Nicholson became a cult classic, considered one of the scariest motion pictures of all time. King confirmed he is writing a follow-up during an appearance in Toronto, Canada this week and revealed the story will be set 40 years later and revolve around the lead character Jack Torrance's son. The sequel is currently titled "Doctor Sleep". However, King admits he's nervous about writing a follow-up to his best story, joking to the crowd, "Maybe if I keep talking about it I won't have to write it."

Warner Brothers has launched a new service that sounds fantastic on paper but turns out to be useless in practice. On DVD2Blu.com, for a low price, you can trade up your old DVD for the Blu-ray equivalent. Sounds good, right? Except you're limited to only 55 barebones releases to select from, and you have to pay additional shipping and tax to get it delivered to you in 5 weeks. It adds up to not being worth the effort.

A standard order of one title will set you back $7.95 + $4.95 in shipping, for a total of $12.90. Some of the newer/biger releases (Body of Lies, Speed Racer, Superman Returns) are $9.95 a piece, for a total of $14.90. Not including tax, depending on where you are. Pinewood Studios sets a New World Record

As you know, we here at HeyUGuys like to support the British Film Industry as much as we can and that’s why you may see promotions for events that we think our readers will like.

Over the past few weeks, and until the end of the year, Pinewood Studios have set up a ‘drive-in series’ of which our roving reporter Ben went to The Shining a couple of weeks ago (his review here). This weekend, Pinewood Studios decided that just having the biggest screen in Europe wasn’t enough, but that they wanted to break the world record for the largest movie projection Ever! Well, the good news is that this weekend on Saturday, 7th November, they did just that screening Mission: Impossible.

I adore movies because they encompass the whole world and allow you to titillate a myriad of interests without having to hone in on just one. (Same with writing -- why pick one slice of life when you can write about them all!?) But there's a side-love -- the art that comes out of cinema. D'Onofrio To Quit Law & Order

Actor Vincent D'Onofrio has confirmed he's handing over his TV cop badge and exiting Law & Order: Criminal Intent.

The Full Metal Jacket star will leave the show during an upcoming two-part season premiere; Jeff Goldblum will replace him on the hit show.

A statement from the actor, who played Detective Robert Goren in more than 130 episodes between 2001 and 2009, reads, "After eight seasons, and with the addition of Jeff Goldblum, now is the perfect time for me to explore other acting opportunities and I leave the show knowing it is in great hands with Jeff."

But he has assured fans his character won't be killed off: "I wouldn’t be surprised if Goren pops up from time to time." »

What is there to say to Crank 2: High Voltage? Those of you who have already seen it know what I’m talking about. For those of you who haven’t, the experience is roughly analogous to walking in on your kid using the neighbor’s cats to re-enact the civil war. You know, deep down, that you’re supposed to scold your kid, maybe get him psychiatric help, but your obligatory socially conscious reaction is undercut by two factors: a) it’s kind of hilarious, and b) you can't even begin to fathom why it happened in the first place.

Picking up several months after the events of the first film, the film opens with our dashing lead hero Chev Chelios (Jason Statham, who proves here that he can grunt and scowl his way through any role) falling out of an airplane and landing on the hard pavement of a city street. »

I want to begin by telling you up front that what I am about to say may shock some of you. In fact, some of you may choose never to read my reviews again. Prepare yourselves, because I am about to make one bold statement… The Time Traveler’S Wife is one of the best love stories Ever told. There. Now, that wasn’t that bad, was it? With that said, I would liked to have seen a few better casting choices.

The film was based on Audrey Niffenegger’s novel of the same name, adapted for the screen by Bruce Joel Rubin (Ghost, Jacob’S Ladder) and directed by Robert Schwentke (Tattoo, Flight Plan). At one hour and 47 minutes in length, the film can feel a bit slow at times in the first two acts, but the pace of the third act certainly makes up for having patience. The »
