DC’s Batman has undoubtedly been one of the most adaptable characters in the history of pop culture, so much so that the character got its own rendition in live-action as well as animated projects. From Tim Burton’s blockbuster films to the 1992 show Batman: The Animated Series, the Caped Crusader witnessed several curves to its character and storyline.

Following the success of the two above-mentioned projects, Batman Beyond hit the television with great reviews. The show featured the return of a retired Bruce Wayne, who passes on the mantle to a teenage hero named Terry McGinnis. Meanwhile, despite the show’s success, the producer of the classic Batman: The Animated Series, Bruce Timm, actually despised the original pitch for Batman Beyond.

Horror is the gift that keeps giving, especially when it comes to inventive carnage on screen. On that front, it’s been a stellar year for memorable kills in horror thanks to a slew of franchise entries, original slashers, surprising takes on demonic possession, and more.
What might be most surprising, in the best possible way, is how 2023 horror pushed boundaries when it came to on-screen deaths. 2023 horror wasn’t afraid to get ruthless when it came to shattering the taboo of killing kids. Nor was it afraid to deliver unforgettable moments on screen through unexpected demises that made us groan, cheer, recoil, and even laugh.
We’re saluting the ten best kills in 2023 horror movies, which means massive spoilers ahead.
You’ve been warned…

Cole Sprouse has seen the dark side of going through a breakup in the public eye.
In a new Vulture interview with the cast of “Riverdale”, the actor opened up about the fan outrage that he received after his split from co-star Lili Reinhart.

“I get a lot of stuff sent to my house or my loved ones’ houses,” Sprouse said “Death threats, really nasty, honestly criminal stuff.”
The actor went on to explain that intensity of the response was likely motivated in part because several of the stars dated each other, like their characters on the show.
“I do think it’s because at least four of us at this table have dated our coworkers,” he said.
“Is that just a consequence of an incredible love? Or is that what fanaticism looks like?...

There’s no easy way of putting this, A Million Little Things faithful: It really looks like Javier “Gary” Mendez Jr. is not long for this world.
The character’s imminent death shouldn’t come as a shock to anyone who’s been watching the show this season: In the premiere, James Roday Rodriguez’s character was diagnosed with Stage IV cancer. As his oncologist told him, the advanced stage of the illness meant that there was no chance of remission; the treatment plan involved using medicine to stave off the disease’s advance for as long as possible.

Whether it’s filming a major musical number or epic action sequence, camera operators are responsible for the media audiences consume.
Camera operator Mitch Dubin’s 17th film with director Steven Spielberg is the upcoming “West Side Story.” The musical presented Dubin with opportunities to harness new techniques, such as wearing an earpiece to listen to the score while filming.
“Normally, you take your cues visually, but in a dance film like [this] if I wait for the visuals of a dancer leaping in the air, I would be late,” explains Dubin. “I had to have the music to understand exactly when [to move and focus].”
Dubin, who has been recognized as Camera Operator of the Year and a Lifetime Achievement Award winner by the Society of Camera Operators, says the job requires “being in sync with the actors, understanding the emotional content of every lens [and] the storytelling perspective of every position.”

Wonder Woman 1984‘s crucial Christmas Day streaming premiere on HBO Max yielded interesting results—notably a surprisingly strong showing at theaters with $16.7 million in North America and $68.3 million internationally—but attention has already shifted to the future of the DC Extended Universe, for which untitled threequel Wonder Woman 3 is now a confirmed part. However, the threequel will eventually arrive through the studio’s ambitious new post-2022 release structure.
An announcement this past weekend from Warner Bros. Pictures Group chairman Toby Emmerich confirmed the studio’s plans to fast-track production of Wonder Woman 3, which will close out a film trilogy, retaining the primary duo of star Gal Gadot and writer/director Patty Jenkins. Yet, with the announcement having come off the historic holiday weekend streaming premiere of what would have been one of the biggest box office hits of the year, it notably clarifies that the developing threequel is aimed exclusively as a theatrical release.

Over the weekend, WarnerMedia took a major step in its plan to make HBO Max a legit contender to Netflix by releasing one of its biggest films of the year, “Wonder Woman 1984,” on the streaming service. Not only did this set a precedent of releasing a potentially billion-dollar blockbuster on HBO Max at the same time as theaters, but it also showed that WarnerMedia was willing to release some of its superhero properties directly on a streaming service instead of worrying about a traditional release.

With the death of horror film legend Christopher Lee, the last of the legendary honor guard of horror has passed on. He was part of an elite group that created the horror genre. Lee’s passing is a reminder that it’s been a long time since we had a new horror film superstar. Is the day of the horror film specialist gone forever? Where are the big-screen boogie-men for the 21st century?
Once upon a time there were a group of actors, known as the ‘screen boogiemen’ who created the horror film/monster movie genre (starting in Universal Studios and later in Hammer Studios.) They were specialists who understood the psychology and performance style of horror cinema and became legends in the industry. The first was silent film star Lon Chaney Sr. (Phantom of the Opera, London After Midnight, the Hunchback of Notre Dame, the Unholy Three, the Monster,...

Young wife Janet Stewart (Anabel Shaw) arrives at a hotel where she is to meet with her war hero husband, Lt. Paul Stewart (Frank Latimore). Janet already had to live through months during which news of Paul’s death could have arrived at any moment. Compounding matters further was when she received such news, although it was only later proven thankfully inaccurate. Her fragile emotional and psychological state is thrown into a savage tailspin once again upon hearing an argument in another room. Janet goes to her balcony (where there is a view of the room where the heated tête-à-tête is transpiring). A man (Vincent Price), in a fit of fury and revulsion, hits his wife over the head with a candle holster, killing her in the process. Janet immediately goes into a state of shock,...

The St. Louis Globe-Democrat is a monthly newspaper run by Steve DeBellis, a well know St. Louis historian, and it’s the largest one-man newspaper in the world. The concept of The Globe is that there is an old historic headline, then all the articles in that issue are written as though it’s the year that the headline is from. It’s an unusual concept but the paper is now in its 27th successful year! Steve and I collaborated in 2011 on an all-Vincent Price issue of The Globe and he has asked me to write a regular monthly movie-related column. Since there is no on-line version of The Globe, I will be posting all of my articles here at We Are Movie Geeks. Since this month’s St. Louis Globe-Democrat is written as if it’s 1959, I decided to write about two of my favoririte films from that...

We're just getting started serving up some spooky Halloween jams for October, and next up is Mondo Zombie Boogaloo – a vintage-style collection featuring new spins on old standards and classic horror flicks, plus a few original surprises, all courtesy of three revered old-school rock legends. Assembled by Yep Roc Records, Mondo is a wild and energetic mashup of several musical eras: it taps into the '60s, when “monster kids” hit the beaches by day, watched The Munsters in prime-time and bopped the night away to “The Monster Mash,” then jumps to the late '70s for the kind of horror-infused punk and psychobilly made famous by the Misfits and The Cramps, and for good measure, stops off for a few loving homages to horror movie themes from the '70s and '80s. When it comes to vintage Halloween party rock, there's plenty to love in here, adding up to a rowdy,...

Outside of Shock, I did a bit of hosting for FearNET (with Angie Greenup and Spider of Powerman 5000), tackling Midnight Meat Train and the Vincent Price-starring The Tingler . The Clive Barker adaptation, directed by Ryuhei Kitamura, is now airing under their "Movies With More Brains" programming and the folks at FearNET gave us a video preview, the intro to the film. This was my first time doing something for television, so go easy... (I kid.)...

Ever since the spot-on mock trailers in Rodriguez and Tarantino’s Grindhouse, companies have been cashing in, releasing collections of whatever forgotten theatrical trailers they can get their hands on.
First off, I highly doubt that anyone out there is going to buy anything from a company called Cheezy Flicks. I doubt even more that anyone would even pick up a DVD titled Cheezy Horror, and if you’re like me, the tagline, “Some of the Cheesiest Horror Trailers of All Time,” will bury this before you even press play. Since I was bored, I counted the word “Cheesy” appears 14 times in various derivatives on the packaging, a word which makes the bile rise in the back of my throat.
Despite all that, there are some fun trailers here that, unless you’re a decade older than me, you’ve never seen before, ranging from Vincent Price’s The Tingler to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Halloween is coming, and fright flicks are everywhere at repertory houses and special showings. Joining the screening events we previously listed here and here are more big-screen revivals of classic fear films, plus a couple of East Coast Zombie Walks!
• Canadian undead fans can take part in the 7th Annual Toronto Zombie Walk, which takes place Saturday, October 24 beginning at 3 p.m. This one starts at Trinity Bellwoods Park (meeting place is the pit between Dundas Street and, appropriately enough, Gore Vale Avenue) and ends at the Bloor Cinema (506 Bloor Street West), where the festivities continue with a Cinema of the Dead double feature of Thom Eberhardt’s Night Of The Comet and Lucio Fulci’s Zombie. Admission to the movies is $16 for ghouls and $20 for regular humans; more info on the Walk can be seen here, and on the screenings here.

Console gaming changed forever in 1996, when Nintendo's N64 was released with a controller featuring an analog thumbstick. It was a design not seen since the days of the Atari 5200, and one that would not only be copied by each successive console, but that would also help usher in an age of 3D gaming that took full advantage of the new apparatus. And the N64's interactive legacy wouldn't end there -- an empty slot on the back of the controller would soon present Nintendo with the means to further revolutionize the medium. At first used only for memory cards, that vacant port realized its full potential on July 1, 1997, when the highly anticipated scrolling shooter "Star Fox 64" hit store shelves with an included Rumble Pack that, when plugged into the controller during gameplay, would shake in harmony with the on-screen action. The era of physical feedback from your entertainment had begun,...
