Haunted house movies have been a cinema staple for well over a century. Lorimer Johnston, Buster Keaton, D. W. Griffith, and Elliott Nugent all knocked on the creaky doors of the subgenre well before film married even sound. It’s a familiar trope, one that has permeated our culture for a very long time. Naturally, as timeless tropes are wont to do, countless filmmakers and writers have added their own signature, and The Changeling is one such example.
Perhaps the greatest? That’s what the Halloweenies debate in their exhaustive breakdown of Peter Medak‘s 1980 masterpiece. Starring George C. Scott, Trish Van Devere, and Melvyn Douglas, the “true story” follows a renown composer, who moves to Seattle from New York City following the deaths of his wife and daughter. The historic society gives him the keys to a dusty mansion, and he soon discovers there’s more than his music floating within its halls.

Hello, everyone! We’re back after a brief hiatus to give you a look at the horror and sci-fi headed home this week on home media. As it turns out, the month of August’s releases are starting off on a quiet note, as we have two titles getting the 4K treatment this Tuesday—Dario Argento’s Tenebrae and Flatliners from Joel Schumacher—and then a handful of indie horror arriving on both Blu-ray and DVD: Scream at the Devil, Paranormal Devil, The Farm, and Joker’s Poltergeist.
Flatliners 4K
Some Lines Shouldn’T Be Crossed.
Known for his impressively eclectic filmography and for helping to launch the careers of several young Hollywood stars of the 80s and 90s, Joel Schumacher tackles the existential question that, at one time or another, haunts us all: what awaits us after we die?

Arrebato: "Horror movie director José is adrift in a sea of doubt and drugs. As his belated second feature nears completion, his reclusive bubble is popped by two events: a sudden reappearance from an ex-girlfriend and a package from past acquaintance Pedro: a reel of Super-8 film, an audiotape, and a door key. From there, the boundaries of time, space, and sexuality are erased as José is once more sucked into Pedro’s vampiric orbit. Together, they attempt the ultimate hallucinogenic catharsis through a moebius strip of filming and being filmed."

This July, 1984 Publishing will be releasing the official soundtrack to 1984's Children of the Corn! With plans for a vinyl LP, along with cassette and CD editions, we have details on the new release and a look at the artwork from “Ghoulish” Gary Pullin:
Cleveland, Oh — At the time of its release in 1984, parents and critics alike were outraged at the pack of killer kids featured in Stephen King’s Children of the Corn.
Rolling Stone magazine: “Seven months before The Terminator hit theaters, Linda Hamilton was being terrorized by a completely different menacing force: A nightmarish cavalcade of creepily angelic tykes causing unspeakable horrors amidst the vast, empty stretches of the Midwest.”
Naturally, the film has become a bona fide ‘80s horror cult classic and spawned many sequels.

Hello, dear readers! It’s Saturday and we’re still in the midst of Indie Horror Month, which means we have another installment of our Ihm Marketplace series for you today, and it’s all about celebrating horror and sci-fi art and artists. In fact, we have more than 50 different online shops for you to peruse today and to make things a little easier, we’ve organized our list alphabetically.
One quick note: Because of the nature of some of the shops, it was hard for us to pull images to use in this post, so to keep it fair, we had to omit including an image for each of these artists’ shops just so we didn’t show favoritism towards one artist over another. But this writer can guarantee that there are some truly amazing artists included here, and if you are looking to spruce up your walls with some killer genre art,...

“Don’t Judge a Book by Its Cover” is a proverb whose simple existence proves the fact impressionable souls will do so without fail. This monthly column focuses on the film industry’s willingness to capitalize on this truth, releasing one-sheets to serve as not representations of what audiences are to expect, but as propaganda to fill seats. The January doldrums have finished and Oscar season’s close has arrived. One of my all-time favorite horror events was experiencing a live performance of Tales from Beyond the Pale at the Overlook Film Festival in 2016. Such an incredible amount of work is put into these horror audio dramas from the cast, sound engineer, and especially series creators Larry Fessenden and Glenn McQuaid. If they announce any new live performances, it's absolutely worth your time to make a trip to see it, but they're giving horror fans the ability to listen to new horror audio dramas from the comfort of their home every week.
Today, we have details on the launch of a a weekly Tales from Beyond the Pale podcast that will see a mix of new stories with content from their archives, featuring an impressive cast of horror talent. Starring Clay McLeod Chapman and Larry Fessenden, the first release is a brand new audio drama called Reappraisal that will be available on multiple podcast providers,...

Terry Gilliam’s 12 Monkeys (1995) starring Bruce Willis and Brad Piit will be available on Blu-ray October 30th From Arrow Video
The Future Is History
Following the commercial and critical success of The Fisher King, Terry Gilliam next feature would turn to science fiction and a screenplay by Janet and David Peoples inspired by Chris Marker’s classic short film La Jetée.
In 1996, a deadly virus is unleashed by a group calling themselves the Army of the Twelve Monkeys, destroying much of the world’s population and forcing survivors underground. In 2035, prisoner James Cole is chosen to go back in time and help scientists in their search for a cure.
Featuring an Oscar-nominated turn by Brad Pitt (Fight Club) as mental patient Jeffrey Goines, Twelve Monkeys would become Gilliam’s most successful film and is now widely regarded as a sci-fi classic. Arrow Films are proud to present the film in a stunning new restoration.

As longtime readers of Daily Dead know, we're big fans of artist "Ghoulish" Gary Pullin and his amazing creations. A passionate George A. Romero fan, Pullin recently visited the Evans City cemetery where the iconic opening scene of Night of the Living Dead was filmed. While there, he respectfully took wax crayon rubbings of one of the gravestones featured in the film, incorporating it into his new limited edition artwork that's featured at his Comic-Con booth, along with copies of his new retrospective book (written by April Snellings), and much more!

Mondo has released several new pieces of poster art for their Universal Monster tribute gallery. It features new art depicting The Mummy, Frankenstein, The Wolfman, The Bride of Frankenstein, The Invisible Man, The Creature From the Black Lagoon, and Dracula.
The Mondo Gallery has been hosting Universal Studio's classic monsters this month from Jan. 19 - Jan. 27, and this art collection is pretty incredible. There's some beautiful work here. When I look at this art for these classic horror films, It makes me sad that Universal Pictures and their team of talent don't really know how to handle these amazing characters for their Dark Universe reboot films. This is their inspiration, and they haven't been able to capture the greatness of it yet.

A new retrospective book on artist "Ghoulish" Gary Pullin is reason enough for celebration, but 1984 Publishing is giving horror fans who order the signed hardcover version even more to enjoy: a 12-inch Goblin vinyl featuring freshly remastered live performances of their music from Suspiria and Dawn of the Dead. Beginning today around 1:00pm Et, horror fans can pre-order this limited edition book/vinyl set, and we've been provided with an exclusive look at the cutting of the vinyl master lacquer.
Below, you can see the Goblin vinyl's master lacquer being cut by Well Made Music's Dave Polster on a vinyl record cutting lathe from 1974—one of only 100 operational ones in the entire world.
Priced at $39.95, the book/vinyl will be available as a "stained glass" transparent blue (limited to 300) and a "stained glass" transparent red (limited to 200).
To learn more, keep an eye on 1984 Publishing's official site and read...
