As you may recall, it was announced back in 2020 that HBO was developing a series reboot of their hit vampire series “True Blood,” with Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa leading the charge. Based on the novels by Charlaine Harris and created by Alan Ball, HBO’s vampire/werewolf/were-panther/you-name-it series aired between 2008 and 2014, officially coming to an end after seven seasons and 80 episodes.
But what’s the latest on HBO’s “True Blood” reboot? Well, according to a new article from Variety this week, those plans from back in 2020 are dead-in-the-water here in 2023.
HBO and HBO Max content CEO Casey Bloys tells Variety that while a few scripts had been written for a potential “True Blood” reboot, nothing ended up coming together. It seems the project was only ever in the early stages, and HBO wasn’t confident enough to proceed. That doesn’t mean “True Blood” will Never be back, but...

Ryan Kwanten has been in the entertainment industry for nearly 30 years, and he has become an international star during that time. Although Ryan’s resume includes a long list of acting credits, he is probably best known for his role as Jason Stackhouse in the popular HBO series True Blood. For six years, the show elevated Ryan to heartthrob status and viewers just couldn’t get enough of him. Since the show’s end in 2012, he has continued to land great roles and he has a role in the upcoming Amazon Prime series, Them. Additionally, Ryan has a couple of projects

400 years from now you have to ask… Are we worth saving?
It still amazes me to this day that Jason Stackhouse is none other than lifeguard Vinnie from Home and Away. I mean back on that show he was the chubby lovable idiot now he is ripped and a bloody great actor to boot. So apart from utterly useless trivia about who an actor played years back, I am also a bit of a sci-fi nerd and when Chronical: 2067 (or just 2067 outside the UK) crossed my table and was billed as a timey-wimey, post-apocalyptic sci-fi with that young lad from The Road who is all grown up now and True Blood’s Jason Stackhouse (aka actor Ryan Kwanten). Rutger Hauer, the versatile Dutch leading man of the ’70s who went on star in the 1982 “Blade Runner” as Roy Batty, died July 19 at his home in the Netherlands after a short illness. He was 75.
Hauer’s agent, Steve Kenis, confirmed the news and said that Hauer’s funeral was held Wednesday.
His most cherished performance came in a film that was a resounding flop on its original release. In 1982, he portrayed the murderous yet soulful Roy Batty, leader of a gang of outlaw replicants, opposite Harrison Ford in Ridley Scott’s sci-fi noir opus “Blade Runner.” The picture became a widely influential cult favorite, and Batty proved to be Hauer’s most indelible role.
More recently, he appeared in a pair of 2005 films: as Cardinal Roark in “Sin City,” and as the corporate villain who Bruce Wayne discovers is running the Wayne Corp. in Christopher Nolan’s “Batman Begins.

Can you hear Benedict Cumberbatch perfecting a Southern drawl and hissing, "Sookie"? It almost happened. Cumberbatch was up for the part of Bill Compton on HBO's fan-favorite True Blood, series creator Alan Ball revealed. "I read Benedict Cumberbatch. He came and read for Bill," Ball said, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "Jessica Chastain read for Sookie. Jennifer Lawrence read for, in season three there's this werepanther girl, and she was great." According to THR, Ball wanted to cast Lawrence, who went on to win an Oscar for Silver Linings Playbook, but because of her age, 17, and the role, she was supposed to play Jason Stackhouse's (Ryan Kwanten) girlfriend, he had to go...

Ryan Kwanten learnt a lot about guns as Jason Stackhouse in True Blood, and he'll be putting that to good use in his new film Blunt Force Trauma.
The Australian actor leads the cast of the new thriller, which also stars Mickey Rourke and Slumdog Millionaire's Freida Pinto. Digital Spy has an exclusive clip from the film below:
Blunt Force Trauma follows the journey of John (Kwanten) and the aptly-named Colt (Pinto) as gunfighters and lovers, as they attempt to climb the ranks in the underground dueling world.
Speaking about the movie, Kwanten told us that it's not your typical Taken-style action film: "It really had some interesting existential throwbacks to the 1970s-style films, which I really like.
"I obviously grew up in the '70s, I remember my dad showing me High Plains Drifter when I was way too young! There was some nice allusions to that,...

Episode 1, “Jesus Gonna Be Here”: Tara (Rutina Wesley) dies—again.

Jason Stackhouse and Sarah Newlin in the church. Lafayette and James in the parking lot. Jason and Jessica in the back of a pick-up truck. Eric and his fangbanger from Estonia going at it for six hours in the Fangtasia dungeon. Jason and a random hook-up outside Merlotte's by the dumpster. The whole town in front of Sookie Stackhouse's residence. In the oversexed world of True Blood, such moments are commonplace; everyone in Bon Temps is doing it everywhere. But of all the sex scenes that have taken place on the show over the course of its seven seasons, it’s not the many very sweet, touching, and romantic moments that will be True Blood’s legacy, but the crazy, bloody, head-turning ones. Here are seven of True Blood’s craziest and most memorable sex scenes.Hate Sex Bill and his maker, Lorena, had a twisted relationship, picking up would-be...

Are happy endings really possible in Bon Temps? Here's Emma's review of True Blood's penultimate episode...
This review contains spoilers.
7.9 Love Is To Die
We’re exactly one episode away from True Blood’s denouement, and while Love Is To Die might not have provided an explosive run-up to the finale, it did produce a classic slice of soapy, Bon Temps-style melodrama. With confessions, admissions and reunions aplenty, there’s literally no one in town that hasn’t unburdened themselves to great effect this week, except maybe Jason ‘I like Pink’ Stackhouse. Not sure we’ll ever see him in quite the same way again...
The big news of the week is that Bill’s badly misplaced sense of nobility has become something of a suicide mission. Refusing to drink from the vile Ex Mrs Rev Newlin as way to permanently remove himself from Sookie’s life seems, from where we’re sitting,...

With one more episode to go, it doesn’t seem too premature to go ahead and award Ryan Kwanten, A.K.A. Jason Stackhouse, the coveted Hit Fix Award for Most Valuable Player of the final season of “True Blood.” As already predicted in this space, Jessica and Hoyt have finally, fully reunited, falling in bed together after Jessica has broken down and confessed to Hoyt that they used to be a couple before she cuckolded him with the irrepressible, sexually irresistible Jason, after which Hoyt asked her to erase all his happy memories of their time together before lighting out for Alaska. Hoyt is all forgiveness towards Jessica, but he does injure his fist by applying it directly to Jason’s hard ol’ head. Hoyt’s ex, Brigette, loads the unconscious Jason into her car and is driving him to the hospital when he comes to. She tells him that he needs medical attention,...

As True Blood's seventh and final season comes to an end, HBO is partnering with Screen Bid to auction off props from the set, including Eric Northman’s Fangtasia Throne and a menu from Merlotte’s Bar and Grill.
Eric's Fangtasia Throne Up For Auction
The auction, which will begin 9 a.m. Pdt on Aug. 20 and end at 9:53 a.m. Pdt on Aug. 25, will reportedly feature over 1,500 items from the set, though only 125 are currently listed. Most of the props up for auction are wardrobe and décor pieces – signs from Fangtasia, paintings from Eric’s offices – but the most desirable item on the list so far is probably Eric’s Fangtasia Throne.

Warning: This interview contains minor spoilers for “Almost Home,” the latest episode of True Blood.Earlier this season, when Jason Stackhouse called up his old friend Hoyt Fortenberry to let him know his mother died, you just knew we’d soon be seeing Hoyt back in Bon Temps, not only to bury his mother and take care of her possessions, but also, quite possibly, to bump into his ex Jessica. Hoyt and Jessica had too much history — from their meet-cute at Merlotte’s all the way up to her glamouring him so that he’d forget her — for them not to interact onscreen again. But to save her and Jason both in one fell swoop? That’s a final-season True Blood reunion done right. Ryan Kwanten got fans drooling when he showed off his perfect abs on a beach in Malibu on Tuesday.
The .True Blood. looked sizzling hot as he was running and splashing in and around the ocean in just his swimming trunks. The beachgoers in Malibu, California, got a little more than they bargained for and got a hot show while they worked on their tan!
The 37-year-old star has played the role of the main character Sookie Stackhouse's gullible brother, Jason Stackhouse, since the raunchy HBO show premiered back in 2008. He has appeared shirtless and almost naked a couple of times on-screen. The show goes off-air on the 24th of this month.
His show may not be doing well, but the Australian star is certainly in his prime.

Anybody who has ever spent any time watching soaps will know that time behaves very strangely within the confines of that universe.

Deborah Ann Woll's Jessica found herself back in the arms of Jason Stackhouse (Ryan Kwanten) after making a startling discovery about her boyfriend James on last week's "True Blood."
Given that Jason's girlfriend, Violet (Karolina Wydra) knows about Jason and Jessica's reunion, Deborah said there will be definite consequences on Sunday's show.
"You can kind of see she's not happy about it, and I think Violet is not someone to let anything go," the actress told Access Hollywood at Comic-Con 2014 in San Diego. "So there'll definitely be some drama there."

HBO is being stingy with its "True Blood" clips this season... none last week and only one for the upcoming Episode 7.05, "Lost Cause." But we'll take what we can get as we prepare for the show's final Sdcc panel on July 26th.
Episode 7.05 - “Lost Cause” (air date 7/20/14)
Exhausted from her recent travails, Sookie (Anna Paquin) finds herself the unwilling host of a festive mainstreaming party in Bon Temps. In search of an elusive adversary, Eric (Alexander Skarsgard) and Pam (Kristin Bauer von Straten) head to Dallas and attend a gala fundraiser.
Meanwhile, Andy (Chris Bauer) makes a life-changing decision; Jessica (Deborah Ann Woll) and James (Nathan Parsons) reach a crossroads; Bill (Stephen Moyer) loses himself in remembrance of human days. Written by Craig Chester; directed by Howie Deutch.

There are six more episodes of True Blood. After that, no more Sookie, no more Be-hill, no more shape-shifters, no more true death, no more of this drain-circling nonsense. [Note: Mild plot spoilers up through last night’s episode follow from here on out.] Arlene can be with Terry again. (Shoulda let her die, Sookie!) Pam can finally chill. Sam can go do whatever his thing is now. It will all be over soon. But before it ends, I have one simple requirement: Sookie and Eric need to bone one last time. This is all I ask.I have given up on all other True Blood hopes, because what's the point? Lafayette will never find true happiness. Sookie will never leave Bon Temps. I don't even care if Jessica and Hoyt figure out a way to make things work, nor do I have any wishes left for Jason Stackhouse, world's dumbest human.

True Blood, Season 7, Episode 4, “Death is Not the End”
Written by Daniel Kenneth
Directed by Gregg Fienberg
Airs Sundays at 9pm Est on HBO
On this week’s True Blood, Pam and Eric return to Bon Temps, Sookie leads a rescue mission for Arlene and Nicole, Fangtasia’s history is revealed, and the Bon Temps mob strikes again.
Remember when True Blood premiered, and it was simply a campy, supernatural-flavored summer show–a fun way to pass the time, but too lighthearted and silly to truly take seriously? Sure, the characters were great and the writing was good (if not always coherent or streamlined), but True Blood‘s never really been truly great television. Until “Death is Not the End”, that is.
Turns out, all True Blood needed to reach its full potential was an end date.
For any who doubted True Blood‘s ability to keep up the string...

HBO‘s True Blood I Found You TV Show Review. True Blood: Season 7, Episode 2: I Found You opened on a four-and-a-half minute fantasy sequence between Jason Stackhouse (Ryan Kwanten) and Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard). Recently, TV Line got chat up True Blood Sarah Newlin hottie, Anna Camp (left), to get more spoiler teasery intel for what's going down with Sarah Newlin in True Blood's last season 7. Anna explained to them: "It’s not what I expected at all. She’s definitely on the run; she’s got Pam and Eric after her now, and the Yakuza. This season is about Sarah trying to survive.” After that, she revealed that Sarah will end up,having another run-in with Jason Stackhouse, and commented on it by stating: "It’s not in a way that you would expect. It actually can be pretty funny and pretty sad. It’s very unexpected the way that I end up interacting with Jason this time around." Stay tuned. True Blood, Season 7, Episode 2, “I Found You”
Written by Kate Barnow
Directed by Howard Deutch
Airs Sundays at 9pm Est on HBO
On this week’s True Blood, Sookie leads an investigation into neighboring town Saint Alice, the Bon Temps townspeople start a mob, Arlene and Holly attempt to escape, and Pam finally finds her maker.
Proving last week’s stellar season opener wasn’t a fluke, “I Found You” is an excellent follow-up episode. Despite the supernatural nature of the show, True Blood‘s final season is unfolding with a heavy dose of realism–the actions and emotions of the characters are right on point, and even the brief touches of humor feel natural and earned among so much horror and dread.
In a move both unsurprising and terrifying, the townspeople of Bon Temps almost immediately form a mob once they find themselves temporarily leaderless. This plot move makes...

True Blood is the gift that keeps on giving, especially with last night's dream sequence between Ryan Kwanten and Alexander Skarsgård. Warning, spoilers below! Viewers got a glimpse of the long-missing Eric Northman when he appeared in Jason Stackhouse's (super hot) dream. In it, Jason finds Eric, who was last seen reading naked atop a mountain in season six, and the two get hot and heavy. You see, Eric previously healed Jason, and when they happens, well, sexy dreams are a side effect. "It was somewhat hilarious because Alex and I really only saw each other at the table reads, which is maybe once every two weeks," Kwanten told E! News' Marc Malkin. "We begged for the producers...to give...

Warning: True Blood spoilers (and some rather explicit content) ahead. If you haven't yet watched the Sunday, June 29 episode, "I Found You"—and/or don't want to know what went down—don't continue reading. 'Twas fan fiction made fantastically real! The final season of True Blood isn't all bleak apocalypse talk (although the global Hep V epidemic is Walking-Dead-level bleak). Last night's episode kicked off with an encounter no one exactly saw coming: A nearly-explicit man-on-man scene between Jason Stackhouse (Ryan Kwanten) and Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard). 7.2 I Found You
It’s week two of the True Blood swansong, and things have taken a very serious turn indeed. Instead of the ravenous nuisance everyone assumed they would be, the roaming H-Vamps are, it turns out, systematically massacring small towns, wiping out every citizen with complete abandon. As if the residents of Bon Temps didn’t have enough to worry about, what with DogBear Mayors, Vampire Whores and imprisoning dangerous two-week-olds, it’s now clear that they are facing possible extinction. It has to be said, though, that where Evil Vince and Dame Fortenberry are concerned, extinction would be no bad thing...

As the final season of True Blood continues, I’ve got to say, as much as I like this show, I had a hard time getting excited for this episode. Don’t get me wrong, last week’s season premiere, “Jesus Gonna Be Here,” was a fine start to the season, but it was far from the exciting and game-changing turn of events that I expected as the series heads into its last batch of episodes.
Instead, it acted as more of an epilogue to last season’s events and set the stage for bigger things to come. Hep-v infected vampires have made their way to Bon Temps, and have already fought and kidnapped a few of its citizens, leaving Sookie, Jason, Andy, and Alcide struggling with the various vampires that are intertwined in their personal lives. Meanwhile, Pam continues the search for Eric, and Tara met the true death,...

Despite all evidence to the contrary, “True Blood” would like to give you what you want from it. This is not a Brechtian experiment in raising awareness of the audience’s desire to have its feelings manipulated in the name of “entertainment” by frustrating and disappointing us at every turn; at its best, it’s a robust sexy horror comedy made by HBO pros. But it’s been having trouble being scary and funny—intentionally, anyway—because of creative exhaustion, or the contempt that’s bred by familiarity, or because Alan Ball has left the building. Or maybe its priorities are just screwed up. “I Found You” opens with a languorously paced scene in which Jason Stackhouse tracks down Eric, standing in front of a window with his shirt open, as if practicing his moodiness. “Why’d you come here, Jason?” asks Eric “I came because I knew you’d ask that f***ing question,...

Jason Stackhouse (Ryan Kwanten) declares he's going to rape Violet (Karolina Wydra) only to have it not be rape because she apparently wants him to want to rape her (ummm, okay).
