Billions, Season 7. Photo Credit: Mark Seliger/Showtime. One thing we’ve learned from the show Billions is that, apparently, the more money you have, the more you appreciate music. Not only has Billions used several iconic pieces of music as part of its soundtrack, but nearly all of the show’s key characters regularly have lines referencing songs or artists, and several artists have appeared (as themselves) on the show, including Metallica, Michael Bolton, Ben Folds, Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes, and indie darling Jason Isbell. The show’s creators, Brian Koppelman and David Levien, are big music fans themselves — Koppelman’s father was the “K” in ’90s label Sbk Records — and they spoke to us about the importance of finding the right music for the show. Charles Koppelman, former music executive and Martha Stewart chairman, died on Friday. He was 82. A cause of death was not given at the time.
His son, showrunner Brian Koppelman, announced the loss on his social media, saying, “I’ll write more about my dad, Charles Koppelman, when I can. But the only thing that matters is how much I loved him. And how much he taught me about every single thing that matters.”
The Billions co-creator continued, “He lived exactly the life he wanted to live. And he spent his last days surrounded by those he loved the most. Pop, thank you.”

Keith Alan Mitchell’s voice is layered and beautiful. His album, This Clumsy World has some genuine moments of brilliance, but if you’re looking for a super-complicated and multi-instrumental affair, look elsewhere. Mitchell’s a dude with a guitar. That’s really all you need to know.
Compared to The Head The Heart as well as Tom Petty, Mitchell is in good company. While I totally get the comparisons, I found Mitchell more closely connected to Mike Edwards of Jesus Jones. I know that might be a random reference, but while listening to Mitchell, that was the first thing that popped in my head. The music is, of course, wildly different, but vocally, Mitchell and Edwards have a similar tone. It’s remarkable.

We're all rookies at some point, but when it comes to the MTV Video Music Awards' Best New Artist category, you only get one shot at being the new kid on the block. And for this year's nominees — Big Sean, Foster the People, Kreayshawn, Tyler, the Creator and Wiz Khalifa — now is their time to shine and join an illustrious list of previous winners that includes Lady Gaga, Guns N' Roses, Justin Bieber and 50 Cent.
Since the very first Moonman was handed out in this category in 1984, MTV has a pretty stellar track record for picking artists who either went on to superstardom or at least represent a very specific moment in time (we're looking at you,...

Isn't technology grand? We remember back when phones were ... well, phones. Now they're highly advanced pieces of tech that can bring you multimedia entertainment while on the go. It has been a big week for television. "Mad Men" returned to our TV screens earlier in the week, and tonight not only sees the premiere of the hotly-anticipated second season of "Jersey Shore" but also the first episode of the new season of "Project Runway."
The high-drama fashion series, hosted by Tim Gunn and Heidi Klum, is one of the more unique reality competition shows out there, as it attracts contestants who are seriously talented, and many of them have already had some success designing for big fashion houses or with their own small lines. The stakes always seem especially high, too, as the prize — a spot at New York Fashion Week and money and technology to start a line — is truly a gateway to more opportunities and better career success. Many of the past winners have gone on to dress huge celebrities and sell their work to major stores.

Celebrating almost doing something is always a little unusual (it's doubtful the Boston Celtics will commemorate the day they lost the NBA Championship to the Los Angeles Lakers, and it seems impossible that John McCain throws a party to remember the day he nearly won an election), but then again, how many opportunities does life really give us to talk about Jesus Jones? On this day in 1991, Jesus Jones' "Right Here, Right Now" climbed into the number two position on the Billboard Hot 100. It seemed primed to crash the top level of the chart, but it was boxed out by Bryan Adams' "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You" (which was an absolute juggernaut of a tune, staying in the top spot for seven weeks).

Joshua Clover is the kind of guy who needs Fredric Jameson to explain Roxanne. 1989: Bob Dylan Didn’t Have This To Sing About takes its title from Jesus Jones’ “Right Here Right Now,” and proceeds to throw the line “watching the world wake up from history” against Francis Fukayama’s 1989 essay “The End Of History.” This is by no means a bad idea: Clover has lots to say about the ways a vapid ’90s rock song might both contradict and support one of the key essays of neoconservative thought. But the full project strives to theorize generally how ...

This Thursday's all-new episode of Private Practice, "Right Here, Right Now," takes its name from the popular, early '90s hit of the same name by the band Jesus Jones.
What that has to do with this episode, we have no idea. But what we do know is that Dr. Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) will be crossing over from Grey's Anatomy!
Bailey brings a kidney transplant patient to Los Angeles, and Addison, her former Seattle Grace colleague, isn't the only Oceanside Wellness doctor pleased to see her.
Meanwhile, consequences of Addison's emotional affair with Noah catch up with her, and Sheldon and Pete finally - finally! - discover who the father of Violet's baby is.
Combine those things and you have an episode that pretty much sounds awesome. Click to enlarge lots of photos of Bailey, Sam and Addison on Private Practice ...

The old Hollywood studio-hand W.S. Van Dyke -- who directed, amongst countless other things, "The Thin Man" -- once advised a young Orson Welles to "just keep it close, and keep it moving." And an unlikely inheritor of this wisdom is Paul W.S. Anderson, whose latest work to hit screens is this week's "Pandorum," which he executive produced, leaving the directing to German up-and-comer Christian Alvart. Rivaled only by Uwe Boll for the title of worst-reviewed director of the past decade, Anderson's also been one of the most resourceful. Working with the flimsiest material (video game adaptations and remakes) in the least respectable of genres (sci-fi, horror), he's managed to construct a remarkably coherent body of work. With his longtime producer Jeremy Bolt and a loose coterie of actors, he's created a series of films that focus on the expressiveness of claustrophobic spaces and the physical grace of his (mainly) female protagonists.
