Given some distance and the perspective of time, almost every horror film seems to look better and find its audience. Though the early to mid 1990s have long been considered a particularly bad period for American horror movies, recent years have seen a number of titles being reassessed and opinions on them revised to be much more favorable than they were 20 years ago. Titles like Disturbing Behavior and I Know What You Did Last Summer and The Rage: Carrie 2, largely written off by horror fans during their theatrical releases in the ’90s, are now being talked about as secretly good genre efforts not because the movies have actually improved, but because enough time has passed that the films can be removed from their historical context and taken for what they are.
Of course, some ’90s titles were always secretly good; they only needed some time to find their audience.

From August 27 to September 1st, John Fallon (aka the Arrow) and I had the pleasure of flying overseas (yes, we took the red-eye) to London, England to take part in my first film festival as a member of a film team...as opposed to the media, that being London's Frightfest! Over my 18 years at the site, I'd been to many film festivals but always as press, not the executive producer of an actual... Read More...

Around 20 years ago, I met a dude named John Fallon and we became friends for life! We both loved talking movies and hoped that we could one day make our own. In the year 2000, John became "The Arrow" and basically ran the horror section (aka Arrow in the Head) of the JoBlo Movie Network for the next 15 years, while hustling to make movies on the side. He did pretty well for himself (check out... Read More...

John Fallon will get behind the camera and direct the Predator-esque action-horror film The Shadowing, Shock is being told this morning. Fallon will produce with Chris White (of the My Super Psycho Sweet 16 series). Jason Hewlett penned the script with Fallon. In the film, a group of Special Forces soldiers on leave after a successful mission in Iraq head out to a cabin in the mountains with their beloved wives and their children in the name of having a good time and getting some well deserved relaxation.

I’m sure that many of you have been reading about more and more “crowd-funding” campaigns rolling around these days (ex: Kickstarter, IndieGogo), especially those in which actual movie stars like Zack Braff and Sylvester Stallone, or directors like Spike Lee are asking fans for money to finance their future films. Well, unlike those people, my good friend John Fallon (aka the Arrow from Arrow in the Head) actually needs the money in order to make his acclaimed...

Arrowinthehead.com has given us a special Halloween treat! Check out this original horror anthology comic series presented by John Fallon (The Arrow) and Eric Red!
Eric Red: “Welcome to the first issue of Twitch, a new online horror anthology comic series exclusively on Arrowinthehead, com at JoBlo.com. It’s a different kind of comic book done in a style that channels the old EC Comics in a spooky way you haven’t seen before. Our very own The Arrow (who else?) performs pervy duties as our degenerate Cryptkeeper. We had a blast creating this project, and hope you get a kick out of it too. The issue downloads in 3 parts, free of charge. Please remember this is an R rated comic, not work safe and not for kids. The first twisted little tale is called Do Not Disturb. Read on, and Happy Halloween!”
Warning: Contains Nudity And Gore.

The Fantasia Film Festival is officially over and we here at Sound On Sight will always remember it as the year of brilliant first time features with the likes of Bellflower, Absentia, Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark, You Are Here, Beyond The Black Rainbow, Attack The Block and Retreat, to name a few. The final audience numbers are yet to be confirmed, but Fantasia estimates it has welcomed more than 100,000 audience members in the past three and a half weeks. 150 international directors, actors and producers came to present their films and we had a great time meeting new faces and drinking the nights away with some of the filmmakers. I can’t stress how fun the festival is and highly I recommend our international readers who love genre cinema to one day travel here to Montreal, and check it out.

[Update - Please Read]: This is Not a poster for the sequel. Arrow clarified that the image they received below was included in a Warner Bros. promotional package. The studio informed us this is not official key art in any way. A final one-sheet will be revealed at another time. Our man John Fallon over at Arrow had a reader send in this early look at the new one-sheet for Final Destination 5 . This art highlights the opening destruction sequence (still, I'm a fan of the teaser over this poster). What I think is amusing is that it says it's "from the writer of A Nightmare on Elm Street " which will lead some to think...Wes Craven. Actually, it's the writer of A Nightmare on Elm Street 2010 Eric Heissere, who was brought in to rewrite Wesley Strick's draft...

During the Weekend of Horrors this past weekend, Eric Red (pictured with John Fallon), screenwriter of The Hitcher and Near Dark and director of Body Parts and Bad Moon, took part in a Q&A to discuss his upcoming film, 100 Feet, which is still settling on a distribution deal. Once the film is out, he’s poised to return to the sub-genre he kicked so much ass with in Near Dark with a new vampire film called Nightlife.
Well, perhaps “new” isn’t the right word; Nightlife has actually been sitting in Red’s "to-do" pile for quite a while and came very close to getting made previously, but Icons of Fright reported from the Q&A that it’s in the very early stages of pre-production.
"It’s a contemporary vampire story set in San Francisco,” Red told the Fango crowd. ”It’s very graphic in terms of violence and sexuality.
