Exclusive: Keith Adams, the Deaf coach who made history leading an all-Deaf high school football team on 12 consecutive victories against all hearing teams, has inspired two major projects: a feature film and a documentary with the Project Power directors behind the feature film. Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman have signed on to direct the film with screenwriter Josh Feldman currently writing the screenplay. That film is based on the life of Coach Keith Adams, and his sons, Kaden and Trevin, quarterback and team co-captain.
“This film will be groundbreaking for many reasons including representation and disability visibility both behind and in front of the camera. As someone who graduated from a state school for the Deaf, I am honored to introduce the world to a compelling family, both on and off the field, with Coach Keith Adams as its beating heart,” Feldman said.

There is a great idea at the heart of Trent Cooper's "Father of Invention," which makes it all the more disappointing to take in a film that circles the drain precariously before plunging downward with vigor. Kevin Spacey steps into the shoes of lead Robert Axle, a former millionaire inventor, whose genius lies in an ability to combine two ordinary items into one--a pepper spray camera that blinds your would-be attacker while taking a picture. He plies his wares with a showman's craft in infomercials that piggyback on a legacy of successful combinations. However, after one of his devices causes…...

Comedy is hard, as the saying goes, but unshakably in the blood of writer-director Trent Cooper, whose latest film, the rangy ensemble farce “Father of Invention,” centers on a disgraced infomercial wizard, Robert Axle (Kevin Spacey), who gets out of prison and tries to start putting his life back together. Robert shacks up with his semi-estranged daughter (Camilla Belle) and her roommates, and gets a job working at a retail superstore, but finds his ex-wife (Virginia Madsen) remarried, and various attempts to secure start-up financing for a new idea stymied at every turn. ShockYa recently had a chance to talk one-on-one with Cooper, about his new movie, his feelings of warmth and affinity for...

Writer-director Trent Cooper crafted a film in Father of Invention that was close to his heart. Cooper tells us in our exclusive interview, that as a father himself, he was drawn to a story of a man who did everything he could to provide for his daughter, even if it was at the sacrifice of actual time with the family.
Kevin Spacey plays an inventor in Father of Invention who has reaped millions off of his inventions and unmatched work ethic. The only thing is that he is never home and available mentally when he is home for his daughter. The movie’s story begins as Spacey’s character is getting out of jail. It seems that one of his inventions hurt thousands of people and he had to pay the price of eight years in prison.
When he gets out, he finds his wife has divorced him and taken all his money.

Title: Father of Invention Director: Trent Cooper Starring: Kevin Spacey, Heather Graham, Camilla Belle, Johnny Knoxville, Virginia Madsen, Craig Robinson, John Stamos, Michael Rosenbaum, Anna Anissimova If one could entirely banish certain ideas for scenes from the minds of all screenwriters, then surely near the top of the list for such cinematic excommunication would be press conference confessionals, which at some point must have seemed really bold and original but by now almost without fail come across as lazy and pat — an entirely synthetic way to give an audience the feeling of a character-awakening conclusion without any of the heavy lifting that accompanies honest reflection. Such is the dispiriting end...

Coming to you on October 14th is a film that, I predict, is going to surprise a lot of people. Father of Invention, Directed by Trent Cooper (don't let Larry the Cable Guy fool you), and starring Kevin Spacey, Heather Graham, Camilla Belle, Johnny Knoxville, Craig Robinson and Virginia Madsen, is the kind of film that may well prove just crazy enough to work.
Given rather different circumstances, this might be one to write off (which is why it may look that way at first glance), but I have a lot of faith in Kevin Spacey and Heather Graham, and their ability to give this one just the right tone and comedic presence.
Take a look below, and don't let this one slip by.
Millionaire infomercial guru, Robert Axle (Kevin Spacey) loses everything when one of his inventions has a design flaw that accidentally chops off the fingers of thousands of customers.

Father of Invention is something that I’m pretty sure I had never heard of until this past week, when we got both a poster and news that Anchor Bay had picked it up. The film stars Kevin Spacey, Camilla Belle, Virginia Madsen, Craig Robinson, Johnny Knoxville, and Heather Graham — not a cast that screams “huge hit,” but one with enough people where I thought it would be getting more attention.
Well, the first trailer has shown up at Hulu, and it pains me to say that the film doesn’t look too promising. This pain mostly comes from my appreciation of and frustration with Kevin Spacey; an actor who has done great work in his time, he’s also spent so many years toiling in middlebrow material, which this looks like the latest in a long line of. "All I need is one good idea that puts me right back on top." Anchor Bay has debuted the latest official trailer over on Hulu for Father of Invention, an indie dramedy about Robert Axle, an eccentric inventor played by Kevin Spacey. I'm not that familiar with this film, it never hit any film festivals as far as I know, but it looks okay, and it has Kevin Spacey as a crazy old bearded dude, which is the best part. Though I find it kind of odd that Camilla Belle plays his daughter and Heather Graham one of her "young" friends. Berlin -- The Berlin film festival's Panorama sidebar is coming back loud and proud this year with a lineup packed with films examining gender identity and the gay movement.
The 2010 Panorama opens Feb. 11 with the Russian film "Jolly Fellows," director Felix Mikhailov's look at the drag queen subculture of a Moscow club.
This year's lineup also features Cheryl Dunye's thriller "The Owls," in which aging lesbians try to get away with murder; and Jake Yuzna's "Open," a series of intertwined love stories featuring gay and trans-gendered partners.
Several of Panorama's documentary selections explores related themes -- such as Crayton Robery's "Making The Boys" about Matt Crowley's ground breaking gay play "The Boys in the Band;" "Cuchillo de Palo," Renate Costa's expose of persecution of homosexuals during the Paraguayan dictatorship and the German doc "Rock Hudson – Dark and Handsome Stranger" from directors Andrew Davies and Andre Schaefer.

Virginia Madsen has been hurting for some decent roles after Sideways proved to us all what a good actress she can be given good material. And bless Kevin Spacey for being the guy to pull her up back up to the big leagues; Madsen will star alongside Spacey in Father of Invention, an indie comedy starring Spacey as an egomaniacal billionaire who gets out of prison to find that his former life has fallen apart. Variety writes that Madsen will play Spacey's ex-wife, who spends all his money while he's in jail and winds up remarried, hilariously, to The Office's Craig Robinson. I have no idea how anyone can keep up with Craig Robinson comedically, but I wish Madsen all the best in giving it a shot anyway. Father of Invention is dreicted by Trent Cooper, and has already started filming.

Kevin Spacey is producing and starring in a film called Father of Invention and now he's been joined by the wonderful Craig Robinson, as well as Heather Graham, Johnny Knoxville and Camilla Belle, according to THR. Spacey plays, according to the trade, a "humble inventor turned egomaniacal billionaire" who serves an eight-year stint in jail after some bad shit goes down with one of his inventions. Intent on revitalizing his reputation, he also has to rebuild his family. Trent Cooper is directing from his own script co-written with Krane and Nichole Beatty. Robinson sounds like the key supporting actor; he'll play the guy who married Spacey's ex-wife after he went to jail, and now enjoys the fruits (ahem) of Spacey's labor. He helps Spacey get back on his feet, which includes nabbing a job working at a store run by Knoxville. Belle will play Spacey's daughter and Graham her lover,...

Kevin Spacey never really went away, so I hesitate to say that he's making a comeback, so let's just say "Hey, it's nice to see Kevin Spacey out and about in the trades again." Then we can talk about Spacey's Father of Invention, and talk about the eclectic foursome he's lured in as costars. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Craig Robinson, Johnny Knoxville, Heather Graham, and Camilla Belle have all signed onto Spacey's independently produced, Trent Cooper-directed film.
The story centers on Robert Axle (Spacey), an inventor who has forgotten his humble roots after making billions, and become an egomanical jerk. In a Lex Luthor twist, one of his inventions has gone awry, maimed hundreds, and landed him in prison serving an eight-year sentence. Freed from his sentence, he goes about rebuilding his personal and professional life, but finds remaking his name and fortune easier than repairing his fractured family.

Imagine if criminal genius Lex Luthor had a family he actually cared about. Now imagine a movie where, instead of trying to kill Superman and take over the world, he tried to reconcile with those loved ones over his past misdeeds.
That’s what the premise of the upcoming comedy Father of Invention sounds like to us, although it probably doesn’t help that Kevin Spacey, who recently played Lex Luthor in Superman Returns, is among the ensemble cast. Spacey plays an inventor-turned-billionaire and world-class egotist who serves a prison term after one of his inventions (Let’s guess which one it was: Giant robot? Orbiting death ray beam? Super-intelligent android with a heart made of Kryptonite?) goes crazy.
After being released from the slammer, the character tries to rebuild his fortune as well as repair his fractured relationship with family members—the latter proving much trickier. According to The Hollywood Reporter,...

After being released from the slammer, the character tries to rebuild his fortune as well as repair his fractured relationship with family members—the latter proving much trickier. According to The Hollywood Reporter,...

Kevin Spacey is set to star in indie comedy Father of Invention, as a bankrupt billionaire - well, former billionaire presumably - a role that seems extremely timely in this credit-crunched era.The plot sees Spacey play a once humble inventor who turned egomaniac when his creations finally took off. But he loses everything when one of his inventions goes horribly awry, and after eight years in federal prison, he is released, homeless, penniless but determined to rebuild his fortune. Does this sound like the beginning of Superman Returns to anyone else? The plot better not see him moving in on a dying heiress.Trent Cooper of, er, Larry The Cable Guy: Health Inspector fame will direct, after writing the script with Jonathan Krane and Nichole Beattie. Spacey will produce as well as starring.

NEW YORK -- Toilet humor, jokes about paraplegics and serious overacting make this lowbrow comedy an irritating watch. The story about a health inspector hunting a criminal who is lacing top restaurants with a diarrhea-inducing drug is as bad as it sounds.
"Larry the Cable Guy: Health Inspector" harks back to the gross-out teen flicks of the '90s. Its star, the blue-collar stand-up comic who performs under the name Larry the Cable Guy, has a loyal following that could boost boxoffice numbers. Teens likely will lap up the frequent fart and butt-crack jokes. Lionsgate opened the film wide Friday.
Larry the Cable Guy (born Daniel Whitney) plays a health inspector who checks Florida restaurants for violating hygiene codes. Larry, who seems to be attempting to channel both Michael Moore and Leslie Nielsen, prides himself on his lone-wolf image and is outraged when he's given a female partner, Amy (Iris Bahr). Amy is a bookish type who, in the first of many lame situation jokes, Larry presumes is a man.
This dynamic duo are sent to investigate a rash of food poisonings at the city's top restaurants. Larry and Amy suspect foul play. They surmise that sabotage related to a citywide chefs competition is at the root of the outbreak. But they run afoul of city politics, so Larry has to go undercover to vindicate himself.
The attempts at humor generally come from situations where the big, blue-collar Larry runs up against snobs in posh restaurants. A lot is made of Larry's bowel movement problems and the inordinate amount of time he spends on the toilet. Most of the physical gags are poor.
More worrying is the way Larry is allowed to get away with homophobic gibes and gags that make fun of paraplegics. Political correctness often is the enemy of good humor, but gags involving people's wheelchairs falling over simply aren't funny. Larry is played as an affable, no-nonsense working guy, but those qualities are used to mask an underlying bigotry.
Jonathan Bernstein and Jim Greer's script is adequately structured, working the lowbrow material to a neat ending. Larry the actor delivers what's expected of him, often accompanied by FM rock classics like B.O.C.'s "Don't Fear the Reaper". But director Trent Cooper allows a supporting cast of TV performers and comics, which includes Joe Pantoliano as the Mayor, to ham it up like renegades from a Troma production.
