Josh Boone has been hard at work as of late. Since directing The Fault In Our Stars, the writer-director has been highly in-demand when it comes to bringing other literary works to the big screen. Fault was based on the book by John Green, and now Hollywood has tapped him to work on features for writers ranging from Anne Rice, to the folks behind Marvel's X-Men: The New Mutants, to the legendary Stephen King.
In terms of King, Boone has not one but two projects in the ether. For a while, all eyes were on his adaptation of King's seminary book The Stand. The director had gone as far as to secure a cast with verbal agreements, and yet now the project has stalled. It's still on the way, but on indefinite hold while they figure out the exact logistics of telling such a sprawling story. The other project, which...

Every time one of you kind (or not) souls posts a comment on one of my articles, I get an email. Through 360 days of 2010, I've received something in the neighborhood of 6000 messages. I read every single one of them, largely because I honestly think that if someone goes to the trouble of reading something I wrote and then takes the time to write something in response, then I owe it to them to read it. In all seriousness, I never cease to feel both lucky and astonished that I get to write here, and that all of you take the time to read my words.
[Cleans stupid dust out of eye]
Of course, there are also the spam comments, which shine with their own sickly light. There's something of a train wreck quality to some of the spam that makes them impossible to look away from. There's an almost poetic lilt to the mismatched words and...

On their way to counseling, young, pretty couple Jack (Reynaldo Rosales) and Stephanie (Heidi Dippold) take a few wrong turns and end up getting lost on a desolate, country road. After some petty bickering and painful exposition on the duo and their problems, the couple eventually gets directions from a menacing sheriff (Michael Madsen) and stumbles onto an eerie uninhabited inn (the kind that solely exist in crappy horror films). The establishment, all shadowy passageways and terrible customer service, is run by a baleful woman (Leslie Easterbrook) and her horny, homicidal son (Bill Moseley). Soon, Jack and Stephanie, along with another stranded, vacant-eyed couple, find themselves haunted by past sins and a masked psycho who demands one dead victim by sunrise. Considering Jack is a writer and Stephanie is a moderately successful local musician, it’s a surprise these creative minds couldn’t write themselves into a better thriller. “House,...

We have three clips in from Lionsgate's "House" on DVD today! Starring Michael Madsen, Leslie Easterbrook, Bill Moseley, Lew Temple and Julie Ann Emery. Robby Henson ("Th3e," "The Visitation") helms the film from the screenplay by Rob Green based on the novel written by Ted Dekker and Frank Peretti. What we said about the film: Quick: When I say "Christian movie" what's the first thing that comes to mind? Cheesy? Preachy? Low budget? Kirk Cameron? When I heard that Namesake Entertainment was making a movie based on the best selling novel House by Frank Peretti and Ted Dekker, and that it was being directed by Robby Henson, who adapted Dekker's book Thr3e for the screen, my first thought was, "How cheesy is this going to be?" Robby Henson ("Th3e," "The Visitation") helms the film from the screenplay by Rob Green based on the novel written by Ted Dekker and Frank Peretti. The film begins with married couple Jack and Stephanie on their way to a clearly much-needed session with a marriage counselor. After straying off the main road, they find themselves lost on a backwoods road in Alabama when they come upon an accident. After getting directions from a very creepy cop, they come to a crossroads where, at high speed and bickering all the way, they decide to veer of their route and head home. And then it happens. They come upon a disabled car and when Jack tries to avoid a collision, he crashes. In typical spooky movie fashion,...

Hollywood has not been kind to movies of faith. Christian film makers have tried and tried again to evangelize through faith-based-movies. With Nintendo quality CGI (remember your old Nes?)and only slightly better acting these movies have fared less than well in the past. i.e. Left Behind, Fireproof or The Omega Code. Enter Ted Dekker and Frank Peretti. Both are N.Y. Times bestsellers and modern day gods in the realm of Christian fiction. Dekker, a respected suspense author teamed up with supernatural / thriller writer Peretti to write what some call, Stephen King's version&nbs...

When I heard that Namesake Entertainment was making a movie based on the best selling novel House by Frank Peretti and Ted Dekker, and that it was being directed by Robby Henson, who adapted Dekker's book Thr3e for the screen, my first thought was, "How cheesy is this going to be?" I saw the film "Thr3e," and trust me, to call it ridiculous would be a compliment. For the most part, films made by or for Christians usually highlight the low production budget and actors picked for their faith more than their talent (hence the Christian film industry's love affair with casting Kirk Cameron in leads). They focus more on the evangelical message they want to drive home rather than a cohesive story that lets the viewer realize the point on their own. Well, I'm happy - thrilled, surprised, overjoyed - to tell you that "House" is not like a Christian movie in any way.

All of a sudden there’s all this info out there about House, a religious-themed horror film based on the novel by Frank Peretti and Ted Dekker. To add to that we just got a quartet of exclusive images from the film, which you can start digesting below.
The official plot for House goes like this: On a deserted back road in Alabama, Jack and Stephanie find themselves driving fast and running late. Their world suddenly changes when a strange accident leaves them stranded with no car, no cell phone coverage, and no help in sight. They have no choice except to continue on foot. As darkness approaches, they round a bend and see a small sign at the top of a long gravel driveway: The Wayside Inn.
The exhausted couple stand in front of an inviting house, complete with gated stone wall, ancient oak trees, and a note welcoming weary travelers.

Now wait just a goddamn second...is that two-time Academy Award winner Faye Dunaway in this trailer for a new B-level horror movie? No, thankfully, it's not.
It's Leslie Easterbrook, now best known as a member of the Rob Zombie repertory, but I tells ya, the resemblance is uncanny. When I watched the trailer for House, my first thought was, "Where the hell is Hugh Laurie?"
But then I got focused. "What the hell is Dunaway doing here," I asked my computer. When I learned it wasn't her, my reaction was, "Why the hell didn't they go after Faye Dunaway?"
There might be some legitimate jumps and scares in House, which drags its cup along the bottom of an empty well for inspiration. It's from authors Ted Dekker and Frank Peretti, so hope springs...uh...intermittent, I guess, because the longer this trailer goes, the sillier the movie starts to look.

It seems there are more movies coming out this Halloween season that I’ve not heard hide nor hair of before. All off a sudden they have posters, trailers, interactive games, etc. Am I just unobservant or are these movies creeping up on us?
The latest example is Robby Henson’s House, based on the novel by Ted Dekker and Frank Peretti. The film goes down in rural Alabama, where two couples being chased by a maniacal killer who calls himself The Tin Man have holed up in a house, in which they soon find themselves trapped. The Tin Man tells them that the only way they can get out is if they kill one of the four, if they haven’t done so by sunrise, all of them will die.
Dekker and Peretti are both religious writers, so expect that House is going to have a pretty thick element of good vs.
