[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for Schmigadoon! Season 2 Episodes 1-5.] Alan Cumming and Kristin Chenoweth have been chums for years. They first worked together on The Wonderful World of Disney’s Annie, released in 1999, in which they played criminal couple Rooster and Lily St. Regis opposite Kathy Bates‘ Miss Hannigan. Twenty-four years later, they’re sharing the screen once more as Dooley Blight and Miss Codwell in Schmigadoon! Season 2 — two characters not intended to be an extension of Rooster and Lily, but are nonetheless. Dooley and Miss Codwell are Season 2’s take on Sweeney Todd and Mrs. Lovett from Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. As the manager of Schmicago’s orphanage (named for Sweeney creator Stephen Sondheim), there’s a lot of Miss Hannigan baked into Chenoweth’s character. Unfortunately, Chenoweth’s character and her butcher boyfriend also want to bake orphans into pies. Schmigadoon! packs as many Broadway references into its six-episode...

Yes, Ariana Granda has called Kristin Chenoweth for advice on playing the upcoming big screen version of Glinda in “Wicked.” And on Wednesday’s episode of “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” Chenoweth revealed that she told the pop star to take full advantage of making the character her own.
Set to release its first part this Thanksgiving, “Wicked” tells the origin story of Glinda the Good Witch and Elphaba, the green girl who would go on to become the Wicked Witch of the West. In the movie adaptation of the Broadway musical, Grande will play Glinda, originated on Broadway by Chenoweth, and Cynthia Erivo will play Elphaba, the role originated by Idina Menzel.
Grande and Chenoweth are longtime friends — according to Chenoweth, she’s known the singer since Grande was 10 years old — and even worked together on projects like “Hairspray Live!” and “The Voice.” So, naturally, Grande was nervous taking on the role.

Join in the cosmic cantata, and take a trip to Schmicago!
On Schmigadoon! Season 2 Episode 3, Josh gets groovy with the hippies, Melissa meets the residents of Quick Street, and Bobby razzle-dazzles the courtroom.
It's so consistently impressive how much they cram into 30 minutes and still come up with a coherent narrative.
Cinco Paul's cleverness with lyrics comes into play in every song here. He's got internal rhymes up the shoobie-doobie, and the double meaning of "The Worst Brats In Town" -- sausages and children -- is just too good.
On Quick Street, we have Alan Cumming and Kristin Chenoweth as Sweeney and Mrs. Lovett... er, Dooley Blight and Miss Codwell, who is also Miss Hannigan from Annie.
Cumming leans into the melodrama of Dooley Blight, evoking more sympathy than menace. Vocally, both of them are at ease with the weird intricacies of the Sondheimesque score.

Though it is perhaps not the buzziest title among Apple TV+'s offerings, the musical comedy "Schmigadoon!" was a surprising and pleasantly charming riff on some classic Broadway shows. Premiering in the summer of 2021, "Schmigadoon!", as its title would imply to those in the know, spoofed old-fashioned musicals like "Brigadoon," "The Music Man," and "Oklahoma!", with the twist that a modern couple found themselves magically transported into a world combining elements of these stage shows and could only get out by renewing and better understanding their love for each other. If "Schmigadoon!" had wrapped as a single-season miniseries, ending on a tentative but hopeful note, that would've been fine. But there are other eras of Broadway to spoof, and thankfully, we now have a second, very loopy, yet slightly edgier season of "Schmigadoon!", picking up almost exactly where it left off in terms of its story and high quality.

Ariana Grande is treating fans to another look inside the world of “Wicked”! On Sunday, the 29-year-old shared pictures featuring her co-star, Cynthia Erivo, in London as they film the highly-anticipated movie adaptation of the Broadway musical.
As if she isn’t keeping fans wondering about the film enough, Grande used lyrics from one of the musical’s songs as the caption.
“up to (no) good ,” the “Thank U, Next” singer wrote next to the photos — referencing “No Good Deed” from the musical.
In the pictures, Grande and Erivo — who play Glinda and Elphaba — hug as they wear chic dresses and pose for the camera. In another picture, the duo show off their manicures as they hold hands at a dinner table.

Hatcha! Whoopee! “Schmigadoon!” returns for Season 2 on April 7, 2023 with a darker tone. Unlike Season 1, which was inspired by golden age musicals of the 1940s and 50s, Season 2 of the Apple TV+ comedy transports the characters to “Schmicago.” The show will still be the humorous love letter to Broadway that fans adore, but this time it will be inspired by tuners from the 60s and 70s. “Schmigadoon!” picked up a few Emmy nominations, and even a win, when it was set in a colorful campy town. Will “Schmigadoon!” perform even better at the Emmys this year thanks to a lauded ensemble that pays homage to the likes of Oscar champs “Cabaret” and “Chicago”?

Apple TV+ is subbing out “The Sound of Music” for “Sweeney Todd.” The first trailer for Season 2 of “Schmigadoon!,” the streamer’s musical parody series, has been released.
Created by Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio, Season 1 of “Schmigadoon!” was a riff on the basic concept of “Brigadoon,” a 1947 Tony-winning musical. Cecily Strong and Keegan-Michael Key lead the cast as Melissa and Josh, a long-term couple in a rocky patch of their relationship. The pair stumble upon the remote town of Schmigadoon and soon discover they can’t leave until they understand true love: something the magical realm determined the partners weren’t in. Every episode featured multiple original musical numbers, patterned from “Brigadoon” and other musicals of its era, all written by Paul.
Season 2 of “Schmigadoon” picks up with Josh and Melissa back in the modern world, where Melissa feels discontent after experiencing real-life musical magic. The two pack their...

Exclusive: A new musical based on the award-winning 2012 documentary The Queen of Versailles and the life of beauty queen, socialite and TV personality Jacqueline “Jackie” Siegel is in development, with Kristin Chenoweth attached to star and produce.
The project would reunite Chenoweth with her Wicked composer Stephen Schwartz, who is on board to write the music. An industry reading is set for March 24 in New York City, in preparation for an out of town engagement with additional details to be announced.
Stephen Schwartz (Photo: Nathan Johnson)
Lauren Greenfield’s The Queen of Versailles 2012 documentary depicted the often bizarre lives of Jackie Siegel and David Siegel, owners of Westgate Resorts, as they struggled to build the largest private home in America in Orlando, Florida — a $100 million house inspired by the Palace of Versailles. Their plans – and their lives – were derailed by the Great Recession of 2008.
The stage musical will reunite Schwartz with Broadway superstar Chenoweth (who will play Jackie Siegel), and feature a book by Lindsey Ferrentino and direction by Tony nominee Michael Arden. The project is described as “a new musical exploring the true cost of fame, fortune, and family.”
The Queen of Versailles is produced by Bill Damaschke. Chenoweth will also act as producer through her production banner Diva Worldwide Entertainment.

Film sets can be dangerous places to work. There are so many moving pieces — actors, crew, cameras, props, sets, stunts — that are often in motion, sometimes simultaneously, that things can too easily go wrong. And on the stunt front, where sequences intentionally put performers in physical danger, situations may get downright deadly.
Thankfully, most sets employ experienced stunt coordinators to make sure everything happens as planned. Ted Sharon, a teacher at the Society of American Fight Directors, explained the role of a stunt coordinator to Backstage. "A qualified stunt coordinator will be able to describe as well as demonstrate, or have an assistant who can execute the sequence," he said. "Good stunt coordinators have a healthy regard for actor safety as well as for the director's vision. They are the guardians of both on set."
Still, no matter how much care is taken to make sure everyone has rehearsed, equipment's been checked,...

It seems almost everyone has found themselves on some form of a healing journey in 2023. While wellness and self-care have always been important, sometimes it also feels a little overwhelming. Why does taking care of ourselves feel like such a heavy topic? I speak for myself when I say: entertaining my inner child as much as possible is one of my favorite parts of healing, so I was over the moon to read Kristin Chenoweth's "I'm No Philosopher, But I Got Thoughts" (17).
From the book's hot-pink cover to the 200-page collection of "mini-meditations for saints, sinners, and the rest of us," this book gave me a new perspective on faith, rage, and what it means to heal in your own way, with a lot of laughing required.

Watching "The West Wing" now feels like revisiting a moment in time. Aaron Sorkin's groundbreaking political drama follows President Josiah Bartlet (Martin Sheen) and his senior staff as they strive to make the world a better place during two terms in the nation's highest office. It's an idealistic — some would say naive — depiction of politics that feels like a fantasy in the divided America of today. Airing in the early days of peak TV, the network drama was unique in its verisimilitude, lack of studio interference, and inclusion of characters who looked, felt, and acted like real people.
You'd think that a show about the White House would revolve around its most famous occupant, but Potus is just one of its many compelling characters. In fact, originally, the president wasn't supposed to be on the show at all. Rather, Sorkin's intent was to follow the staffers, assistants, secretaries, and...

Exclusive: Kristin Chenoweth (Schmigadoon!), Kenny Ortega (Julie and the Phantoms) and producers Alan Powell, Steve Barnett and Vicky Patel of Monarch Media are teaming for the docuseries 1300 Miles to Broadway. Inspired by Chenoweth’s Broadway Bootcamp, the series introduces 8th to 12th graders to the world of performing arts through master classes in acting, singing and dancing, and goes on the emotional journey with them as they prepare for a future as performers.
Chenoweth launched Broadway Bootcamp at the Broken Arrow Performing Arts Center in her Oklahoma hometown of Broken Arrow in 2015, to give talented local kids a taste of real Broadway talent, working with them one-on-one. She brought Broadway director, actor and producer Richard Jay-Alexander into the fold four years ago to strengthen the program. All editions of the camp have taken place in-person with the exception of 2021’s, which was held virtually amidst the pandemic, with kids from 33 states and 8 countries participating.

Schmigadoon! star Kristin Chenoweth surprised Steve Harvey and her Celebrity Family Feud teammates on Sunday, August 14, when she gave a naughty answer to the very first question of the night. Before the round began, Harvey introduced the Tony-winning actress, saying, “You know what, I’m really good with people. You are an exceptionally nice person.” However, his opinion changed just moments later as he asked the contestants, “We asked 100 women, after the lips, what’s your favorite part of a man to kiss?” Chenoweth was quick to buzz in first but momentarily paused before giving her answer. Clearly embarrassed by the answer she had in mind, The West Wing alum said, “It rhymes with [censored].” Unfortunately, the television audience didn’t get to hear what Chenoweth actually said as her response was beeped, but the reaction from Harvey said a lot. [The official Family Feud YouTube page revealed later that Chenoweth’s answer rhymed with “heinous.

Every family has their problems – even ones that are meticulously crafted in a writers room. And during this episode of WrapWomen’s “UnWrapped” Podcast, actresses Kristin Chenoweth (“Schmigadoon”), Rosie Perez (“The Flight Attendant”) and Jasmine Cephas Jones (“Blindspotting”) discuss how their recent roles shine a light on the everyday challenges of motherhood and marriage through humor, heartfelt dialogue and even a few musical numbers.
Whether it’s Chenoweth playing the uptight, hostile leader of “Mothers Against the Future” in “Schmigadoon!,” Perez trying to reunite with her on-screen son in “The Flight Attendant” or Cephas Jones exposing the effects of incarceration on families, all three characters are fierce mothers – and don’t particularly care if you agree with their parenting styles.
During this episode, the women also opened up about their real-life family dynamics growing up and how that impacts the work they’re doing today.

It’s hard enough to get live singing down pat while a camera is rolling, but how about a four-plus minute number without a single cut? Emmy and Tony winner Kristin Chenoweth nailed it on the first take, and thus “Tribulation” was born.
The “Schmigadoon!” stunner — a “Music Man”-inspired patter song written by co-creator Cinco Paul for the show’s main villain — is one of the standouts in the musical comedy series about a bickering couple (Cecily Strong and Keegan-Michael Key) who unexpectedly find themselves in an alternate universe in which wokeness is not yet a thing, and you have to sing your way through everyday life.
Re-recording mixer Joe Barnett walks us through the clip (seen in full just below), and gives us some background on the separated audio showcasing the intricacies of putting the number together.

“Welcome to the 48th, 49th, and 50th AFI Life Achievement Award” joked Bob Gazzale, AFI President and CEO, who kicked off the last night’s event in honor of Julie Andrews by first giving the other award of the night, the 2022 Franklin J. Schaffner Alumni Medal, to “Coda” director and AFI alum Sian Heder.
It was a direct address of how the event, which had to take two years off due to the pandemic that is still affecting everyone’s schedules, travels, etc., was now back as a somewhat more humble affair.
