If you've listened to Corpse Club or read Daily Dead over the years, you may know that I'm not shy about sharing my eternal love for the 2008 zombified horror comedy Dance of the Dead, directed by Gregg Bishop from a screenplay by Joe Ballarini (I even had the undying pleasure of helping put together 10th anniversary screenings for the film). It's with immense pleasure and plenty of anticipation that we share the news that Bloody Disgusting and Fangoria are teaming up for Bishop's next movie, The Sisters of Samhain, which features a "rogue coven" running amok on Halloween night.
Announced by Bloody Disgusting and Deadline, The Sisters of Samhain will be directed by Bishop from a screenplay by Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski (the writing duo behind Super Dark Times and the recent Sundance hit The Night House). According to Bloody Disgusting, the film "follows a group of friends who...

Exclusive: Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski, the hot writing duo behind $12m Sundance pic The Night House, are joining forces with genre label Fangoria on horror movie The Sisters Of Samhain. The script follows a group of friends who team up with a witch on Halloween night to prevent a rogue coven from bringing about the end of the world.
Fangoria’s owner Cinestate is financing the pic and will handle distribution. The Texas-based studio is teaming with Chicago-based media company Bloody Disgusting on the project, as well as Final Destination producers Practical Pictures and Grade A Entertainment. The latter two companies developed the script with director Gregg Bishop, who is set to helm.
As a pair, Collins and Piotrowski broke out with their 2017 indie hit Super Dark Times. Their latest feature, The Night House, starred Rebecca Hall as a widow who begins to uncover...

As John Squires earlier noted, a few years back, Hallmark started giving some love to the horror genre with their annual holiday ornament collections, to date surprising us with ornaments based on films such as Jaws, Aliens, Predator and Frankenstein. We’re hoping that we’ll be getting more horror-inspired ornaments for Christmas 2018, but it’s too early to know. What we […]...

It’s easy to pick apart ratings and find the meaning you’re looking for, which is why we’re trying to be impartial about them. It’s well known here on the site that I don’t like “The Walking Dead” (although I’m a huge fan of the comic), and that John Squires does (here’s what he had to […]...

We’ve seen a lot of movie inspired fan-made Ben & Jerry Ice Cream flavors and packaging created over the years. Today we’ve got a whole new series that are based on different horror movies. The series was created by John Squires and Frank Browning, and they pay tribute to films such as Gremlins, The Shining, Army of Darkness, A Nightmare on Elm Street, They Live, Friday the 13th, and Halloween.
The names of the ice cream flavors are pretty clever and the packaging is amusing. Some of the names are "Klaatu Banana Nikto," "Heeeeere’s Brownie," "Camp Crystal Cake," "Human Centi-Peach," and my personal favorite is "Never Sleep Again," which is coffee flavored caffeinated ice cream. Check them all out below.

That Netflix’s Stranger Things” is inspired by 80’s horror is well documented and there have been many words spilled on these pages. Filming began yesterday in Boston on the Paul Feig-directed, female-centric reboot of the "Ghostbusters" franchise for Sony Pictures. Three of the four new Ghostbusters, stars Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy and Kate McKinnon, were on hand for filming and already the first set photos from the project have gone online.
The characters are not in their new Ghostbusters uniforms, only their civilian clothing which itself looks fairly colourful. Plot rumours have Wiig as a woman whose prestigious job at Columbia ends before it begins when it's learned she co-wrote a book claiming ghosts are real. She soon finds herself teaming with her ex co-writer and that woman's new partner to hunt ghosts, just as the Big Apple is terrorised by a wave of them.
The pics come on top of a photo that Feig posted yesterday on his Twitter account that suggests Slimer would be appearing in the reboot.

Welcome to Outrage Watch, HitFix's (almost) daily rundown of entertainment-related kerfuffles. Not anxious enough already? Get your fix of righteous indignation below, and stay posted for outrage updates throughout the week. Joss Whedon famously called a pre-release clip of "Jurassic World" "'70s era sexist" on Twitter. Hey, even "Jurassic World" director Colin Trevorrow agreed! While Whedon later apologized for voicing the sentiment (without actually backpedaling), his criticism is now being echoed by Daily Beast reviewer Marlow Stern, who calls the film a "Big, Dumb, Sexist Mess" in his headline before going on to write: "'Jurassic World' is not about corporate greed, anti-militarization, crass commerciality, disrupting the food chain, or dinos eating the shit out of people. No. It’s about a woman’s 'evolution' from an icy-cold, selfish corporate shill into a considerate wife and mother." Stern is referring here to Bryce Dallas "Not Jessica Chastain" Howard's character Claire Dearing,...

If Ben & Jerry's ice cream is good for anything, it's for satisfying our constant cravings for dreamy, inventive flavor combinations. Over the years the ice cream brand has created a number of flavors with real-life pop-culture connections -- from "Neapolitan Dynamite"(inspired by the movie Napoleon Dynamite) to "Liz Lemon Greek Frozen Yogurt with a Blueberry Lavender Swirl" (inspired by 30 Rock's Liz Lemon character). But what if they created flavors based on some of our favorite horror movies? What devilishly delicious flavor combinations could we see? And would you eat them? Created by John Squires and artist Frank Browning for Freddyinspace, check out a bunch of fictional Ben & Jerry's horror movie-themed ice cream...

It won’t be long before you head to your attic, crawlspace, or basement to retrieve your holiday decorations, bringing Rudolph the Red-Nosed reindeer, Frosty, and other Christmas characters into your living room. But if you’re looking to add a little horror decor to your tree this year, then you might be interested in The Return of the Living Dead ornament that pays tribute to the brain-hungry Tarman.
From Freddy in Space’s John Squires and Homemade Horror‘s Gabe Lapeer, The Return of the Living Dead Christmas ornament depicts the iconic Tarman sleeping the years away in a sealed drum of Trioxin. John Squires wrote me last week pining, "Aw, man! I wanted to do that Hellyfish story!" It is now with a great deal of spite and spirit the we do not let him write this one either. Why? Because he refuses to nut up and get a PS4 so we can smack each other around next gen style! Where was I? Oh yeah! A new Hellyfish poster!
From the demented minds of Pat Longstreth and Rob MacLean comes Hellyfish... yes, Hellyfish, a film that will no doubt be either released by The Asylum or mockbusted by The Asylum. Doesn't really matter which.
Synopsis
America’s only missing nuclear weapon is leaking radioactive material into the ocean just off the coast of Tybee Island, Ga. The trifling existence of a hapless cast is disrupted by a vicious force of nature that shows no mercy.

Arnold Schwarzenegger announced the title of the new Terminator movie in style today (August 6), by posting a photo on Instagram of a director's chair with the film's name emblazoned across the back.
Perhaps the most noteworthy aspect of the title is its unusual spelling, with the next instalment named Terminator Genisys.
Twitter users have been quick to make their feelings on the title known, with some mocking the 'innovative' spelling of the word 'genesis':

You may or may not know this, but as of July 30th, Fearnet will shut its doors forever. In April, Comcast NBCUniversal bought out Fearnet. Because NBCUniversal already has Chiller and Syfy, it was decided that Fearnet was redundant. Most of the staff was laid off then, with a skeleton crew kept around to help with the transition.
I have worked at Fearnet for the last six years - the last two full-time as associate editor - and it has been the most formative experience of my life. It would drive my husband crazy because I would work non-stop - but when it was all said and done, he told me that he never heard me complain. Not once. I loved this job. I will continue writing about horror. Currently I am writing for Shock Till You Drop, and I have some stuff in the works for Fangoria. I am...

I really don't remember a time when there wasn't talk of a sequel to the Chiodo Brothers' Killer Klowns from Outer Space. But let's face it... it's probably never going to happen. A TV show, however... well, that's a different story altogether!
According to our own John Squires at iHorror, who sat down recently with Charles Chiodo, there is no sequel planned for 2016, thus debunking some nagging rumors. In the end MGM didn't feel there's enough fan interest to warrant funding a sequel so until they get moving or change their minds, we hopefuls are dead in the water.
Chiodo did go on to say that he and his brothers would be interested in turning Killer Klowns into a TV series, but there's nothing official on that front either. If MGM doesn't do anything with the franchise, the Chiodos are considering "making a totally original scary clown movie, which would...

This week, it was only apropos that I tackle Jason Voorhees and Friday the 13th seeing as, well, there's a Friday the 13th this month. Earlier, I ranked the franchise's installments, from best to worst. With this piece, I'm breaking down the many interpretations of Voorhees and ranking them, again, from best to worst. I encourage you to weigh in with your own ranking using the comment board below - definitely want to hear your thoughts on this!

"The Walking Dead" is not a show to thrive on celebrity guests. Aside from Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward and F/X god Greg Nicotero (who works on the show anyway), there have been no celebrity zombie appearances. But there have been plenty of zombie tributes.

One of my personal favorite horror films of 2012 was Richard Bates Jr.'s debut feature 'Excision.' Back then, I was able to interview the writer/director over on Icons Of Fright to get a bit more insight into this strangely unique and wonderful odd film. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that the story initially started out as a short film before becoming a feature. It's not uncommon for stellar shorts to be turned into full length films. In fact, just a few months back, fellow Fearnet scribe John Squires wrote a piece showcasing 10 horror films that originated as short films. And now, the filmmaker just tweeted a link to a You Tube page housing the long coveted short, which you can watch for yourself below.
The story of 'Excision,' both for the short & feature centers around the highly intelligent yet mildly disturbed Pauline, a teen who...

If you've seen James Wan's hit shocker The Conjuring, you're probably still having nightmares about the terrifying possessed doll Annabelle from the prologue of that film... especially if you read our story about that doll's real-life inspiration. (She's even getting her own movie!) But Annabelle's not the only haunted toy with a movie-worthy backstory: seems there's a little guy out there named “Robert” whose own history may be even more disturbing... so much, in fact, that he actually became the inspiration for Chucky and the recently-rekindled Child's Play film franchise. Fearnet's own John Squires recently wrote a chilling piece for iHorror.com detailing Robert's strange legacy: the chilling story begins over a century ago, when the doll was presented as a childhood gift to painter Robert Eugene Otto, allegedly as an act of revenge by his parents' voodoo-practicing servant. Accounts of the cursed doll's paranormal skills include the ability to speak,...

We have expressed our love of artwork many times here at Dread Central. The only thing better than a well-thought-out and executed piece of eye candy is a well-thought-out and executed piece of eye candy that you can actually eat!
Our man John Squires recently put together a gallery of 25 horror-themed cakes for iHorror that are so scrumptiously cool we had to share them with you here as well.
You'll find a bunch of them below, and honestly? If you thought that Nathan Grantham wanted his cake badly in the "Father's Day" segment of 1982's seminal classic Creepshow, we can bet that you'd like to sink your teeth deeply into any of these creepy crawly confections.
Check 'em out, and let us know your favorites.

Our spotlight on horror-themed holiday décor continues with a return visit to “Homemade Horror,” a.k.a. artist Gabe Lapeer, who recently unveiled some of his own terrifying tree ornaments – including this upcoming item, depicting a cotton candy-cocooned victim from Killer Klowns from Outer Space. This 4” hangable replica will soon be available exclusively through horror/pop culture blog Freddy in Space (run by FEARnet's own John Squires!), where they will be announcing the ordering window and more info shortly. Lapeer's previous tree ornaments include an Evil Dead Necronimicon, “Large Marge” from Pee-Wee's Big Adventure, a “Crite” from Critters, and his “Karbonite Killers” series (which we previously showcased here). [For more Diy holiday horrors, be sure to check out our earlier piece on John Tatarelli's zombie tree-trimmers!]...

It’s a well-known fact that many motion picture studios are fond of milking a cash cow until it is dried up and keeled over. Perhaps more so than any other film genre, horror sequels have a tendency to deteriorate to the point of almost unwatchable direct-to-dvd nonsense. The inverse can also occasionally be true: studios leave money on the table instead of making a much demanded sequel to a franchise that still has life and potential left in it.
We believe that just because a franchise has seemingly dried up or deteriorated to the point of churning out a barrage of unwatchable sequels, that does not mean that a series that once showed great promise and potential cannot be revived with a creative script and a director with a unique vision for how to resurrect a dying franchise. The same goes for a series that has been abandoned by...

This has been a big week for Chucky fans! Earlier this week, we got not only a Blu-Ray box set collecting all of the 'Child's Play' films, but a brand new 'Child's Play' sequel 'Curse Of Chucky' written & directed by Don Mancini. And so, we've just been given this bizarre 25 years of Chucky tribute video. I say bizarre because it's a "megamix" by Mike Relm. You'll either find this "mix" terribly annoying, or maybe you'll find it charming and awesome. I fall somewhere in the middle as I've always found anything Chucky related irresistible. Have a peek below!
Also, can't get enough Chucky? Read our review of 'Curse Of Chucky' by Scott Weinberg, our interviews with series creator Don Mancini, as well as Ed Gale, the man in the Chucky suit. John Squires also whipped up this great piece showcasing the best Chucky toys on the market!

The folks over at Horror Decor have teamed up with Freddy in Space to bring you pillows featuring the faces of Freddy Krueger, Michael Myers and others. The idea originated from Freddy in Space’s John Squires and artist Patrick Carson Sparrow, who thought of creating a Madballs-style pillow. Over on Dread Central, Squires discusses how Horror Decor were able to create seven individual pillows with Freddy, Leatherface, Chucky, Predator, Pinhead, Jason Voorhees and Michael Myers:
“When I went to Patrick with the idea of a Madballs inspired pillow for our August release, he went above and beyond the call of duty by turning seven of my favorite horror icons into their very own Madballs, creating art not just for one pillow but for a whopping eight of them…. The pillows have a 12″ diameter, and the round design makes them look like actual Madballs, which you can cuddle up...

Summer's not quite over yet... it can't be, because we still have more horror movie pops to go! Still, this is kind of a bittersweet moment for us (no pun intended), because it marks the final gallery of ice cream concepts from Freddy in Space's John Squires and artist Frank Browning. We won't say for certain whether the ice cream man will return next summer, but for now the guys are putting the plan on indefinite hiatus: “You can only come up with so many horror movie themed ice cream ideas before your brain melts and you're ready to move on to something else,” John said. So without further ado, gobble up this final collection, which features some of the duo's most outrageous summer treats of all! Be sure to visit Freddy in Space for the full-size versions.

Old school horror fans were amazed (and delighted) this year when Neca rolled out two action figures based on the oddly-tinted renditions of horror icons Jason Voorhees and Freddy Krueger from Nintendo's Nes game system in the early '90s. It's another sign of a nostalgic revolution sweeping through the horror community – a trend that has inspired creative artists and designers to come up with their own “what-if” concepts, like these awesome Nes game mockups based on Italian horror movies from Dr. Terror's Blog of Horrors. The Doctor is in again, along with another of our favorite blogs, Freddy in Space (helmed by regular FEARnet contributor John Squires), to provide more 8-bit dream projects we'd love to see in reality: this time, a pair of figures based on lo-fi vintage horror games that you may remember (or may not, as some of these games got a very limited release). Working...

In recent months, we've showcased some cuddly horror-themed designs from Horror Decor (including those awesome customizable VHS-styled pillows), but today we're excited to announce that Freddy in Space, the pop-horror-culture blog run by FEARnet contributor John Squires, is teaming up with Horror Decor to launch a series of pillows based on the popular “Madballs” toys from the '80s... but instead of using that line's original characters, artist Patrick Carson Sparrow has created new original Madballs designs based on your favorite horror villains. The upcoming designs are part of the “Freddy in Space Childhood Nostalgia Line,” which began last month with a “My Pet Monster” themed pillow also designed by Sparrow. That item was so popular it sold out in a matter of hours, so they decided to team up on a new project, and thus the "Freddy in Space Horror Madballs" pillow concept was born. John says the seven new original character designs,...

Summer's getting a lot hotter... but the horror-themed faux flavors from Freddy in Space (whose creator John Squires is now a FEARnet contributor!) just keep getting way cooler. They promised us more horror-themed ice cream products this summer, and with the help of resident artist Frank Browning, there's a third gallery of Ben & Jerry's-style flavor ideas on display. This round pays tribute to some well-known favorites, like Friday the 13th and American Psycho varieties... ...as well as some clever entries themed on cult classics like Madman, May and the Real Ghostbusters animated series. But today's clear winner is “All Outa Bubblegum,” based on John Carpenter's They Live, which you see above in its original form, but the following images reveal the shocking truth behind the packaging, which of course can only be seen with these special glasses... Visit Freddy in Space for the full-size versions. Obey!

How is everyone’s wallets doing after last week’s most American shopping day? I hope you still have enough left over to buy some poorly transferred horror films brought to you by the slackers over at Echo Bridge. Fear not though, Chillerama is out this week and that makes up for all the garbage being thrown at us recently. On a side note, if you plan on blowing your brains out this season, make sure you pick up VH1 Storytellers: The Dixie Chicks before you go through with it. I just want to make sure your reasons are justified; that’s all.
30 Minutes or Less
What a well-made yet unfunny film. I was disappointed by this title and it mostly has to do with the great cast delivering flat, cringe-worthy lines. Watch the trailer, those are literally the only comedic parts in the the film. I wrote a...

I had the abosolute pleasure of being able to catch Chillerama in New York City this past Saturday at a midnight showing. Chillerama was less of a movie viewing “experience” and more of an “event” for me. I make this distinction because there are a number of things that made this trip special. For one, I live on Long Island, which is one of the Worst places to live if you’re a movie lover (and just in general). All the movies that I want to see are always playing in the city, and it’s not always so easy to get there because it’s time consuming. Chillerama was a film I needed to see, I‘m a huge fan of Adam Green, I think he is the face of contemporary horror, even if many dismiss him. I also respect Joe Lynch, Wrong Turn 2 is more than enjoyable in its own right,...

Today (August 9th 2011) is the quiet release of Evil Things, a film that employed many found-footage tropes long before they became mainstream. Being an independent film, Evil Things lacked the proper funding to be distributed and sat on the shelf for about 2 years. Now, with the success of Paranormal Activity, Rec, Cloverfield, and Troll Hunter, Evil Things was able to be picked up and lightly distributed. Unfortunately, due to the large amount of similar films, I am afraid that Evil Things will get pushed to the wayside. I want to talk about my experience with Evil Things and then do a review of sorts.
About 2 years ago, when I started showing interest in horror films that were not mainstream, a friend of mine by the name of John Squires, brought me in a copy of a new found-footage film that he thought was better than most. I was only really...

For the month of August, the tail end of summer-movies (big budget blockbusters) is playing in theaters and the last bit of films that were released in the middle of the year are getting a Blu Ray/DVD treatment. All in all summer is a bad time for movie lovers but there are still some solid Blus and DVDs coming out this month (along with some terrible ones).

I’m really looking forward to watching this; I actually pre-ordered it a few weeks ago on Amazon. They had a killer price of $13.49 for pre-order and after all the great things I heard from both Shawn Savage and Justin Laliberty, I just had to pick it up. Read their reviews if you need to be convinced; I was.
Yellow Brick Road: Aug 2nd
Woo! More found footage but dammit, I’m a sucker for it.

Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon caught me with my pants around my ankles. I added it to my Netflix queue a couple of years ago because the description looked enticing and I wanted to try something new (a documentary on a fictional masked killer? I’m in). When it came in the mail, I waited a few days to pop it in, I was expecting the familiar low budget slasher flick that made it points by trying desperately to appease fans with pointless nudity and horrible looking CGI kills. When I did finally watch it, what I saw was one of the funniest and most intelligent horror films I haven’t seen since Scream. Behind the Mask was not afraid to make fun of itself or the community that it represented but at the same time it empowered the community and defined a whole new generation of...

New York -- Media and entertainment insiders struck some somber notes Tuesday, predicting an extended U.S. economic downturn and growing challenges to the advertising market.
"We expect this to be a long and deep recession," one that is more drawn-out than generally seen since World War II, Merrill Lynch managing director and entertainment industry analyst Jessica Reif Cohen said at the second annual Media and Money conference organized by Dow Jones and the Nielsen Co., parent of The Hollywood Reporter.
After several quarters of weakening trends in local advertising markets, national advertising is also in danger, she said. "We've definitely started to see national get hit now," Reif Cohen said.
Fellow panelist Wenda Harris Millard, co-ceo of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, also noted "a lot of unrest" among consumers and marketers and last-minute ad buying in recent months.
John Squires, executive vp at Time Inc., argued that consumers will...
