With new exclusive behind the scenes pictures, director Kevin Lima takes us through Enchanted, as it hits its 10th birthday.
It’s been ten years since the terrific Enchanted arrived in UK cinemas, just under two months after it premiered at the London Film Festival. The film made a star of Amy Adams, brought back 2D animation from Disney to the big screen, and has a songbook that sits happily alongside the top end of Disney work. Plus, the film remains a flat out family treat.
“It has been a long time” Lima chuckled, apologising in advance if he couldn’t recall all the answers I was after. Turns out he didn’t do too badly. He spared me some time to look back over the film, the challenges of making it, and what happened next…
I’ve only just discovered that Enchanted actually had its premiere in the UK!

Breaking: Looks like it’s Warner Bros‘ week to hire directors. The studio has signed Rupert Sanders to direct Napoleon, a Scarface-style look at the French leader that will be produced by Gianni Nunari. Jeremy Doner wrote the script and Niija Kuykendall will oversee for the studio. This comes a day after the studio tapped Joe Wright to direct Pan. Sanders made his feature directing debut on Universal’s Snow White And The Huntsman, which grossed near $400 million worldwide. He’s got 90 Church with that studio and producer Joe Roth, and he’s developing Juliet for Sony and New Regency, with Charles Roven producing, as well as the screen adaptation of the Frederick Forsyth thriller The Kill List for producers Steve Schwartz, Paula Mae Schwartz and Nick Wechsler. Sanders is represented by CAA and attorney Carlos Goodman.

This feels like a story we already reported, but Michael Fassbender has just updated his status from "strongly rumoured" to "confirmed" as the star of The Counsellor. Cormac McCarthy's original screenplay is being directed by Ridley Scott. The film is coming together amazingly quickly. McCarthy (author of No Country For Old Men, The Road and All The Pretty Horses) delivered his screenplay to his surprised publishers in January, and Scott was signed as director only weeks later. The story involves a successful lawyer who thinks he's clever enough to exploit the system by moonlighting in the drug business, but finds himself quickly dragged into a world of pain. Naysayers are starting to mutter that that sounds rather like Breaking Bad, but producer Steven Schwartz is understandably enthusiastic: "Since McCarthy himself wrote the script, we get his own muscular prose directly, with his sexual obsessions. It’s a masculine world into which,...

Stem cells from embryos may finally cure patients-reviving a bitter debate. In this week's Newsweek, Sharon Begley reports from the front lines of the ethical battle.
Stem cells, it seems, have become almost as ubiquitous in medicine as stethoscopes. Yankees pitcher Bartolo Colon received injections of stem cells from his own fat and bone marrow to treat an injured shoulder and elbow, his doctor recently revealed. Meanwhile, a Texas hospital is testing whether stem cells from a patient's bone marrow will improve the effectiveness of cardiac bypass surgery. It's enough to suggest that the bitter religious, ethical, and political battles over stem cells that began in 1998 were pointless. If cells harvested from patients themselves can treat disease, perhaps there's no need to use ones obtained from human embryos-with all the questions that raises.

Magazines have figured out how to use platforms like Facebook -- and to a lesser extent Twitter -- to build brand awareness, but they're still a long way from making money from social media. That was the message from publishing executives and their resident social media gurus at the Mpa's inaugural Social Media conference, held in New York on Tuesday. "We're all learning," Steven Schwartz, chief digital officer at Rolling Stone and Us Weekly publisher Wenner Media, admitted. Schwartz said that while some of their magazine campaigns have won the company bigger business...

SAG’s upcoming elections have been getting some attention, but the WGA West is having an election this summer as well. The ballots go out sometime in late July or August, and are apparently due back September 17. Current WGA West president Patric Verrone is running for one of the open board seats, but not for president (I believe there are term limits). Instead, the candidates for president are John Wells and Elias Davis. For more details, see the press release below.

The WGA West announced Monday the initial list of candidates for its 2009 election of officers and board of directors, and it includes a familiar name: John Wells.
For president, Elias Davis, who is the current secretary-treasurer, is running against Wells, who held the president post from 1999-2001. Despite the absence of "ER," Wells has a robust slate of TV and film projects as a producer, many of which are set up at Warner Bros., where his production company has a home.
Board members Tom Schulman and Howard Michael Gould are running for vp, and Christopher Keyser and David N. Weiss, who is the current vp, are running for secretary-treasurer.
Additionally, 16 candidates have been nominated for eight open seats on the board of directors. Those include Luvh Rakhe, Linda Burstyn, Mick Betancourt, Jan Oxenberg, Eric Wallace, Jed Weintrob, Chip Johannessen, Andrea King, Steven Schwartz, Jeff Lowell, Billy Ray, Carleton Eastlake and David Wyatt,...
