Call of Duty and Battlefield are two of the biggest names when it comes to online multiplayer Fps games. However, while Call of Duty is growing even today by adding new games to the franchise, Battlefield has hit a bit of a roadblock. The last installment of the latter was released back in 2021, Battlefield 2042, and was met with a lukewarm welcome by the community. Fans who are now eagerly awaiting a new Battlefield game will be waiting quite a bit longer as a studio closure leaves the game’s future in limbo.
EA Announces Closure of Ridgeline Games The new single-player Battlefield project will now be handled by Criterion Games.
The information comes from Andy Robinson on X, who tweeted out saying EA has closed Ridgeline Games, the studio handling a future Battlefield single-player game. This title was supposedly going to be a counterpart to Battlefield 2042, which was designed exclusively for online play.

The worst-kept secret in the video game industry is that Nintendo intends to launch a Switch successor sometime soon. When it comes to making sense of all of those Nintendo Switch 2 reports, though…well, things quickly get much more complicated. There are a ton of Nintendo Switch 2 rumors out there at the moment, and the legit/current ones often look just like the reports that are utter nonsense.
So, while I will emphasize now and throughout this article that there are so many things about Nintendo’s next console that remain unverified (including its very existence), here is a rundown of some of the most substantial rumors regarding Nintendo’s next console.
What Is the Nintendo Switch 2’s Name?
While we’ll be referring to Nintendo’s next console as the Nintendo Switch 2 for reasons I will get into shortly, we don’t know the console’s full official name as of this time.

In this blackly comic gorefest, rereleased after 30 years, a couple encounter a horde of hellish demons when they move into a creepy old house
‘No tears please – it’s a waste of good suffering!” Thirty years on, this rerelease of Clive Barker’s Hellraiser amplifies its mostly intentional black-comic horror.
Clare Higgins gives an entertainingly queenly performance as Julia, who comes back with new husband Larry (Andrew Robinson) to live in his late mother’s creepy old London house, only to find it secretly contains the mangled, zombified body of Larry’s brother – and her former lover – Frank (Sean Chapman), who has sold his soul to netherworldly demons, summoned with an occult antique box.

Stars: Chhabi Biswas, Gangapada Bose, Kali Sarkar, Padma Devi | Written and Directed by Satyajit Ray
After the commercial failure of the second part of his Apu Trilogy, Bengali auteur Satyajit Ray opted for more commercially viable material for his next project. He turned to writer Tarasankar Bandyopadhyay, and a short story about a landlord clinging to his last motes of power as his empire crumbles around him. The result was 1958’s Jalsaghar, released internationally as The Music Room.
The landlord (or zamindar) in question is Lord Roy, played by Chhabi Biswas with a gravitas that matches his contemporary, Laurence Olivier. The film opens halfway through the narrative, with Roy as a bent old man, and the last of his servants, Ananta (Kali Sarkar), still at his side. We jump back four years to show what brought Roy to near-ruin, before the second half of the movie shows us how he...

Writer Doug Wagner teams up with artists Daniel Hillyard and Laura Martin for an unsettling serial killer story that readers won’t be able to look away from – Plastic.
Retired serial killer Edwyn Stoffgruppen is in love with Virginia, a girl he “met online.” Her affection quiets his vile urges. Together, they tour the back roads of America in their Ltd, eating doughnuts and enjoying their healthy appetites for each other. Life is good… until a Louisiana billionaire kidnaps Virginia, forcing Edwyn to kill again in exchange for her freedom. The twist? Virginia is a sex doll.
Says Wagner:
This book is wrong… in every way. It’s bloody, sexual, disgusting, and troubling. Some people are going to Hate it. But, for those who embrace the strange as beautiful, you’re in for one hell of a disturbingly glorious ride.

Based on his novella The Hellbound Heart, Barker’s feature film adaptation introduces us to Frank Cotton (Sean Chapman), whose soul is transported to a hellish dimension after acquiring a mysterious puzzle box that summons demonic forces.

I hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving yesterday, and that your conversations with your friends and family were both peaceful and joyous. In my experience, the tryptophan in the turkey makes everyone so sleepy that noisy arguments require too much energy.
Today, Black Friday, is the official start of the holiday shopping season. With luck you are still enjoying the warm glow of gratitude from yesterday’s holiday, and we can use these emotions to consider your holiday shopping list.
I, for one, am grateful to live in a country that defends freedom of speech. Even hate speech. I don’t like neo-Nazis or what they say (and for even more video, check out this link). However, we know who a bunch of these people are now, and we can defend ourselves https://www.splcenter.org.

For 50 years, the many incarnations of Star Trek have been boldly going where other shows wouldn’t.
The recent announcement that Hikaru Sulu (John Cho) will be gay in this weekend’s third installment of the Star Trek reboot films has garnered intense attention, contention, and debate. Many jilted fan boys have cried foul over director Jason Lin and writer Simon Pegg’s decision to pay homage to the original Sulu George Takei, claiming that it ruins the integrity of the character. Many have rejoiced in the “first” Lgbtq character in the franchise. Both of these camps are misguided. Star Trek has always been a place for Lgbtq representation — even when studios and public opinion refused to allow it to be overt.
Star Trek: The Original Series was groundbreaking in many ways. It was the vehicle through which one of the first televised interracial kisses occurred between Captain Kirk (William Shatner) and Lieutenant Uhura (Nichelle Nichols). The...

This podcast focuses on Criterion’s Eclipse Series of DVDs. Hosts David Blakeslee and Trevor Berrett give an overview of each box and offer their perspectives on the unique treasures they find inside. In this episode, David and Trevor discuss Eclipse Series 40: Late Ray.
About the films:
The films directed by the great Satyajit Ray in the last ten years of his life have a unique dignity and drama. Three of them are collected here: the fervent Rabindranath Tagore adaptation The Home and the World; the vital An Enemy of the People, based on the Henrik Ibsen play; and the filmmaker’s final work, the poignant and philosophical family story The Stranger. They are complex, political, and humane depictions of worlds both corrupt and indescribably beautiful, constructed with Ray’s characteristic elegance and imbued with autumnal profundity. These late-career features are the meditative works of a master.

I’ll bet many of you cinephiles out there have heard of Indian filmmaker Satyajit Ray’s acclaimed trilogy of films from the 1950s (Pather Panchali, aka Song of the Little Road, 1955; Aparajito, aka The Unvanquished, 1956; and Apur Sansar, aka The World of Apu, 1959), but have never actually seen them. Here is your chance to rectify that egregious error. Quite simply put, anyone interested in film history needs to have this trio of motion pictures under the belt.
Satyajit Ray, who received an Honorary Oscar for Lifetime Achievement in 1992, began his career as an illustrator of books. One of these was Pather Panchali, a classic of Bengali literature (1928) written by Bibhutibushan Bandyopadhyay, and its sequel, Aparajito (1932). They comprise the story of the growth of a boy from infancy to adulthood over the course of twenty-five years or so (from the 1910s to the 1930s...

India, 1955/1956/1959
The Criterion Collection set of Satyajit Ray’s Apu trilogy has been one of the more eagerly anticipated releases in recent years. These masterworks of world cinema, widely acclaimed for decades, have been long overdue a much-deserved superior treatment on home video. Now though, benefitting from a 4K digital restoration by the Academy Film Archive and L’Immagine Ritrovata, and with a wealth of bonus features, these exceptional films are available in the superb presentation so many have been waiting for.
But to start at the source, such a treatment would not have been warranted in the first place were the films themselves not so remarkable, and that they most certainly are. As no less an authority than Akira Kurosawa puts it, “To have not seen the films of Ray is to have lived in the world without...

We may remember Independence Day, The Matrix, The Phantom Menace. But what about these forgotten 90s sci-fi films? And are any worth seeing?
Think back to the science fiction cinema of the 1990s, and some of the decade's biggest box-office hits will immediately spring to mind: The Phantom Menace, Jurassic Park, Independence Day, Men In Black, Armageddon and Terminator 2 were all in the top 20 most lucrative films of the era.
But what about the sci-fi films of the 1990s that failed to make even close to the same cultural and financial impact of those big hitters? These are the films this list is devoted to - the flops, the straight-to-video releases, the low-budget and critically-derided. We've picked 50 live-action films that fit these criteria, and dug them up to see whether they're still worth watching in the 21st century.

Simon Cowell has taken on the adaptation of graphic novel The Fifth Beatle to film.
Syco Entertainment will serve as a co-producer on Vivek J Tiwary's acclaimed Brian Epstein biography, reports Variety.
It centres around the Beatles manager, who discovered the now iconic band in 1961. Sir Paul McCartney said of him that "if anyone was the fifth Beatle, it was Brian".
Epstein died in of a drug overdose 1967 at the age of 32.
"I have always been fascinated by Brian Epstein - and his story," said Cowell in a statement. "He played a huge role in The Beatles' incredible success - and, I believe, remains the most talented manager ever.
"Yet his story has never been fully told. Also, like everyone across the world, I have so much respect for The Beatles and their music. So to be given the chance to be involved in this project was one I just could not pass up.

Our look at underappreciated films of the 80s continues, as we head back to 1988...
Either in terms of ticket sales or critical acclaim, 1988 was dominated by the likes of Rain Man, Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Coming To America. It was the year Bruce Willis made the jump from TV to action star with Die Hard, and became a star in the process.
It was the year Leslie Nielsen made his own jump from the small to silver screen with Police Squad spin-off The Naked Gun, which sparked a hugely popular franchise of its own. Elsewhere, the eccentric Tim Burton scored one of the biggest hits of the year with Beetlejuice, the success of which would result in the birth of Batman a year later. And then there was Tom Cruise, who managed to make a drama about a student-turned-barman into a $170m hit, back when $170m was still an...

The Star Trek franchise has a great tradition of seeing its actors become creatively involved behind the camera. Leonard Nimoy got the ball rolling by taking the helm of Star Trek III: The Search for Spock and then co-wrote and directed Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home and collaborated on the story for Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. In between those latter two, William Shatner co-wrote and directed Star Trek V: The Final Frontier. Later, The Next Generation cast member Jonathan Frakes directed Star Trek: First Contact and Star Trek: Insurrection. Frakes also directed many episodes of The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine and Voyager. Other cast members who’ve helmed episodes of various incarnations, including Enterprise: Patrick Stewart, LeVar Burton, Avery Brooks, Rene Auberjonois, Roxann Dawson, Michael Dorn, Siddig El Fadil, Gates McFadden, Robert Duncan McNeill, Robert Picardo, Andrew Robinson and Tim Russ. The clock is ticking on Forever. Can it sustain enough viewers to live to a full first season? Here's Billy's review...
This review contains spoilers.
1.6 The Frustrating Thing About Psychopaths
Before I get on to the review, I want to talk about the show in general, and its likely longevity. Looking at the viewing figures and how they’re sliding there was some debate online if this production would beat the eight episodes that the very similar New Amsterdam (2008) managed to deliver before cancellation. With seven episodes complete, ABC has confounded many Network TV watchers by ordering a further three scripts. That is spitting distance away from a complete half season, even if it isn’t the full set.
Though, it’s worth pointing out that ordering scripts isn’t bankrolling them being produced, and Forever has just one more episode in the bag to prove it isn’t the...

It’s impossible for me to hide the fact that Scream Factory is one of my favorite boutique media labels. Scream Factory’s Blu-ray release of Pumpkinhead, was one of their most impressive releases of the year (so far). That review will be up this evening. In the meantime today Scream Factory announces their release of Pumpkinhead II: Blood Wings, to be released on Blu-ray on October 28th. We all knew it was coming, but now we know exactly when, we have the cover art, and we have a list of the bonus content. This isn’t going to be quite as extra-heavy as their release of the previous film, but I have no doubts that it will be a solid release regardless. Plus, how cool is it to have the sequel sitting right next to the original on your carefully-organized shelves? Juan Ferreyra is one of the best artists working in the comics industry, or anywhere for that matter. I always hesitate to say these things because it turns out there’s someone I’ve missed or forgotten to acknowledge, but the fact of the matter is that I will buy any issue of any comic drawn by Ferreyra, even if the story is tripe, because I just want to stare at the pages. His use of watercolor strokes, emotions in faces, and terrifying tentacle monsters are at equal levels of effectiveness. Now he’s on Prometheus with Paul Tobin (for an interview with both Tobin and Ferreyra, click here), wherein one who claims to be inspired by Giger finally gets to draw Xenomorphs, and the results are fantastic.

Such a question is unfair because by implication it demands the individual to pick one film out of the many they have seen in their life time thus far. How is this justice I ask? To have one ‘favourite’ movie cuts you short of an existence of potential cinematic delights because the truth of it is, loving film is not crystalline, but fluid. As one gets on in years, tastes begin to differ and a film you once...

Dark Horse, the elder statesman of independent comics, continues to show no signs of slowing down during this year’s San Diego Comic Con. Even though Marvel now holds the rights to Star Wars, its biggest licensed comics property, Dark Horse struck back by announcing a several creator owned titles in different genres as well as an expansion to the Mignolaverse and a sequel to one of the most beloved novels of the past century. Dark Horse also won some Eisners in a wide variety of categories showing the company’s comics appeal to many types of readers from kids to people who wouldn’t normally read comics.
1. Hellboy and the Bprd Miniseries
Even though Batman has gotten most of the publicity, another comics character is celebrating a big anniversary. 2014 marks the 20th anniversary of Hellboy’s first appearance in the Seed of Destruction miniseries by Mike Mignola and scripted by John Byrne.

The covers above are from Action Comics #34 (Gary Frank), Detective Comics #34 (Tommy Lee Edwards), Green Lantern #34 (Craig Rousseau), Grayson #2 (Andrew Robinson) and Harley Quinn #9 (Amanda Connor). Some are better than others, but each is very creative in its own way. Selfie variants are a smart idea, and they do make a nice change from Marvel's constant Deadpool-centric "hilarious" covers. What do you guys think? Be sure to sund off with your thoughts below!

Between films like The Big Ask to 10 Things I Hate About You and television’s long-running series, Numb3rs, chances are you’ve seen a David Krumholtz joint. His latest project has him dressing in drag and talking about cumulus clouds, which is indeed a 180 from Bernard the elf.
Weather From is an online weather channel where daily outlooks are delivered by a delightfully frisky older woman named Gigi aka Krumholtz after four and a half hours of makeup. The comedy website is a new creation from Barry Sonders, Zach Golden and Ricky Mabe and features 35 pre-taped segments with forecasts from the National Weather Service. For Krumholtz, wearing prosthetics was a dream come true, and transforming into a fiesty retiree gave him a chance to pay tribute to his own grandmother. VH1 spoke to the actor about his latest gig, the sexual exploits of the Aarp set and a long-awaited grudge...

Wow. Just a month in and this regular post dedicated to the - shall we say - more idiosyncratic, less delicate of movies (or shall we just say “gory horrors and not-quite-b-movies”) has the splendid fortune of getting to review Stuart Gordon’s tongue-in-cheek classic, Re-Animator.
Produced by Brian Yuzna, the warped individual behind the brutal class satire/mutant cannibalism jaunt Society, and starring that rubber-faced icon of the midnight movie, Jeffrey Combs, this remains one of the crowning glories of 80s cult film-making. Re-Animator's essentially an outlandish, sillier take on Hp Lovecraft’s spin on the Frankenstein mad-scientist story, and Combs, who you’ll undoubtedly know from such box-office juggernauts as Doctor Mordrid and Cellar Dweller (reviewed here next month), plays brilliant-if-misguided medical student Herbert West.

Pumpkinhead II: Blood Wings was originally released in the UK at a time when I was heavily getting into horror yet was, legally, still too young to rent 18-rated titles from the local video shop (a shop which to this day I credit with the formative years of my movie tastes). It was also at a time when Jeff Burr was being hailed, at least in some corners of the UK and Us horror press, as the future of the genre. After all, he had helmed the fan-favourite Vincent Price-starring horror anthology From a Whisper to a Scream and then the very successful sequel The Stepfather 2, before hitting the “big time” as director on the third film in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise.

Director Don Siegel’s 1971 thriller Dirty Harry is rightly regarded as a landmark, providing Clint Eastwood with one of his signature roles, giving action cinema one of its most memorable catchphrases ("Do I feel lucky...?") and setting the template for a legion similar cop movies.
Yet while Dirty Harry's influence on movies like 48 Hrs. and Lethal Weapon is readily acknowledged, the importance of its villain is less commonly discussed. But the nihilistic killer Scorpio, as played by Andy Robinson, is arguably one of the best villains in cinema, and his performance has surely had a subtle influence of its own.

The Fifth Beatle: The Brian Epstein Story by Vivek Tiwary and Andrew C Robinson, with Kyle Baker. 144 pages. Dark Horse. Available in both hardcover and electronic editions.
This week, I’m kvelling all the time. The Fifth Beatle is finally in the stores.
Let me explain. About a dozen years ago, I met Vivek Tiwary and we quickly became friends, even though it’s only recently I’ve pronounced his name properly. We met because we had friends in common, friends who inspired us to do some good, in Vivek’s case quite amazingly. (Really, watch the video at the link. It’s wonderful.)
Community service is all well and good, but what really bonded us was comics. We are totally geeks together. We would walk around various conventions (both Book Expo and the San Diego Comic-Con), sharing the kind of fangasms such events inspire. I even helped him take his young son around.
