Fun Stuff

Trivia:
The villains of the film were originally intended to be Romulans, but upper studio management wanted Klingons to be used since they were better-known enemies. By the time the decision was made, the Romulan ship was already built and they did not want the expense of replacing it. However, since the TV show had already established that the Klingons and Romulans had shared technologies and ships in the past (for exactly the same real-world cost-cutting reasons), the idea of Klingons using a Romulan-style vessel was not a problem. more
Goofs:
Miscellaneous: The USS Enterprise had more damage markings on the hull at the start of this film then it did at the end of Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan (1982). Considering that this film was set immediately after the events of The Wrath of Khan, there is no explanation as to why these mysterious markings appear on the Enterprise. There were three markings on the hull at the end of the previous film, one to the star drive section, one to the neck section, and one to the underside of the saucer section. In this film the star drive section and warp engines are most notable for the mysterious damage. more
Quotes:
[first lines]
[Spock's dying words, repeated from the previous film]
Captain Spock: Don't grieve, Admiral. It is logical. The needs of the many outweigh...
Kirk: ...the needs of the few.
Captain Spock: Or the one. I have been and always shall be your friend. Live long and prosper.

You Klingon bastards !, Kirk gets personal., 4 March 2008
7/10
Author: LieutenantJohnChard from United Kingdom

It is what it is folks, it's a good honest Star Trek story, it beats a real emotive heart and although some may decry the lack of blistering space battles, or end of the universe peril scenarios, it's an essential film for dealing with the protagonists we know and love.

Into the mix here we have our favourite alien enemies The Klingons led by the oddly cast Christopher Lloyd, Spocks father, Sarek, graces the story, Kirk gets an emotional kicker, and hardcore fans get a surprise with the beloved Enterprise. It's merely a set up for the next {and delightfully great} instalment Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, but on its own it stands up as one of the better character pictures in the series, and Leonard Nimoy directs with care for a subject he obviously knows all about, 7/10.
