In an interview with Vanity Fair last year, Matthew and Kate were joined by co-star Kathryn Hahn, producer Lynda Obst, writer Burr Steers and more to reflect on the movie’s impact.
During their discussion, they shared some juicy secrets. For instance, they revealed that another actor was initially interested in Kate‘s part and spilled on how Matthew was brought on. The group also talked about Kate‘s timeless yellow dress, the movie being “feminist” and so much more.

Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson proved to be a charming couple in Donald Petrie’s How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. In the early 2000s, McConaughey was predominantly cast in rom-com movies. Revisiting his days as a Hollywood heartthrob recently, McConaughey recalled meeting Hudson before the production began on the film. He shared that it was the natural chemistry between them that landed him the lead role in the film.

It didn’t happen at Universal’s presentation, but we finally got a Christopher Nolan announcement at CinemaCon 2024.
On Thursday morning, Paramount Pictures’ President of Domestic Distribution Chris Aronson revealed that Nolan’s “Interstellar” will return to theaters on September 27, 2024 in both 70mm and IMAX formats. The re-release is a celebration of the film’s 10-year anniversary. It is probably also — at least somewhat — a continued celebration of Nolan’s Best Picture-winner “Oppenheimer.”
Of course, the “Oppenheimer” victory isn’t for Paramount to tout, and its studio Universal took a brief victory lap (or two) during its own Wednesday afternoon Colosseum presentation. The on-stage champagne-popping split time with “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” and included a prerecorded message from Nolan. (He did not touch on “Mario.”)
In the package played for a packed house of (mostly) exhibitors, Nolan said he had been “very nervous” about showing “Oppenheimer” footage to the same CinemaCon audience last year.

Oscar nominations were announced in Los Angeles at 5:30 a.m. on Jan. 23. The backlash began by sunrise. Barbie received eight nominations, including for best picture, but where were individual nods for director Greta Gerwig or star Margot Robbie, the A-list architects who constructed a billion-dollar blockbuster out of an $18 plastic doll that was born in 1959? Barbie fans went berserk online, denouncing the Academy for what they saw as a sexist snub. Breathless press coverage of the controversy dominated the news cycle for days, and even Hillary Clinton weighed in to support her shunned sisters.
By Jan. 26, producer Lynda Obst had heard enough. “I have to write about this misplaced horror,” Obst unloaded on Facebook, offering a history lesson pulled from personal experience, reminding her readers that comedies rarely fare well at the Academy Awards in top categories. Drew Barrymore and Dermot Mulroney had a tear-filled reunion when the actor surprised the talk show host on Thursday’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show.
The Anyone But You star was one of three people who made an appearance and caught Barrymore off-guard, as the episode was only intended to be a sit-down with Andie MacDowell. The two co-starred in Bad Girls.
In honor of the 1994 film celebrating 30 years, MacDowell surprised Barrymore with Mulroney, their fellow co-star Mary Stuart Masterson and executive producer Lynda Obst, who made an appearance via video.
“I am freaking out right now,” Barrymore said, sitting alongside Mulroney, as they both got visibly emotional. “You were so good to me. I really was like a lost 17 year old. I know I was having so much fun, but I didn’t know how to take care of myself, and you took such good care of me.

Jamie Lee Curtis Remembers ‘Halloween’ Producer Debra Hill as “Ride or Die” Best Friend at PGA Event
Jamie Lee Curtis turned up at UTA headquarters in Beverly Hills on Thursday to help the Producers Guild of America announce the recipient of a fellowship bestowed upon a producer identified as a next-generational talent. Before she handed over the certificate, the Oscar winning actress looked to the past to honor the fellowship’s namesake, the late Debra Hill, a beloved friend and colleague from the Halloween franchise.
Curtis, an early riser who joked that she was out past her typical sunset curfew, said the franchise has been dissected in everything from books to college courses (“literally, PhDs have been earned on Halloween“) as people have attempted to get to the root of its appeal and meaning. She credited director John Carpenter as a “great guy, a wonderful director,” who co-wrote the film with Hill, but noted that it was the female storytelling that also helped the movie rise above.

Many rom-com fans can likely agree that How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days wouldn’t be the same without Kate Hudson’s “Benny boo-boo” lines or her cover of “You’re So Vain.” She and Matthew McConaughey had an electric chemistry that made the movie one of the most iconic romantic comedies to this day. How to Lose a Guy even led Hudson and McConaughey to co-star in another film, Fool’s Gold, a few years later.
And yet, the earliest plans for How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days didn’t include Hudson as the leading lady. Here’s who was the first choice to play Andie Anderson and how the part ended up going to Hudson. Plus, how Hudson helped seal the deal on McConaughey.

One of the more unexpected shifts in media habits during the pandemic, at least for me, has been a new interest in those little bird-box book libraries that inhabit front lawns in the quieter neighborhoods here. I regularly pass a dozen of them on a circuit of five or six miles around Santa Monica and Brentwood. Always, I stop to see what they’re offering. Sometimes, bag and sanitizer in hand, I’ll actually swap a book.

The annual year-end film industry rituals continue as critics groups vote for the best of the year, with the results of the New York Film Critics Circle announced on Friday, and the Los Angeles Film Critics following on Sunday. And this time around, Academy voters could really use the input.
While some moved back their deadlines along with the Oscars — including the usual first taste-setter, the National Board of Review, as well as the Golden Globes and the Critics Choice Awards — the two most influential critics groups chose not to wait. As a result, their winners could provide some guidance in this most unusual Oscar season.
At a time when theaters in New York and Los Angeles aren’t building word of mouth, good films are hard to find, and FYC campaigns often fall into the ether, the critics groups help to steer voters toward must-see films. As screeners start to arrive,...

Preliminary casting for The Hot Zone: Anthrax is already underway.
“The gripping, propulsive story of the hunt for the anthrax killer who terrorized the country in the dark days that followed the Sept. 11 attack couldn’t be more timely,” said Carolyn Bernstein, EVP, Global Scripted Content and Documentary Films. “As the world battles Covid-19, another deadly and mysterious virus, The Hot Zone: Anthrax is a scientific thriller for our time.”
The Hot Zone started off as a Julianna Margulies-starring limited series, chronicling the Ebola virus outbreak, which launched on Memorial Day 2019 and became Nat Geo’s most watched scripted series ever and second most-watched series overall.

A new, updated take to hit 1983 Paramount movie Flashdance is in early development at CBS All Access, soon-to-be-rebranded as Paramount.
The potential series hails from Paramount Television Studios, with Tracy McMillan set to write the script and Angela Robinson on board to direct.
The 1983 movie starring Jennifer Beals marked the first blockbuster hit for producer Jerry Bruckheimer and the first in a string of hugely successful features for Paramount with partner Don Simpson. Bruckheimer is in the ViacomCBS family; his company is under a deal at CBS TV Studios though he is not believed to be attached to the project. (The film’s associate producer Lynda Obst is executive producing.)
The series reboot, first reported by THR, will revolve around a young Black woman with ballet dreams and a strip club reality who struggles to find her place in the world while navigating romance, money, art, friendship and how to love herself.
