The world of horror films lost two of its most important and influential figures recently with the passing of filmmaking geniuses George Romero and Tobe Hooper. Although the careers of these two great artists can fill (and have filled) entire books, I’d like to briefly mention their most important works and pay my respects to them both.
When I was around ten or eleven-years-old, I had snuck out of bed late one night to watch some old movie on TV; a Tarzan flick I think it was. In order to avoid waking my parents, I had to keep the volume on the television set very low, but sit close to the set so that I could hear. As I sat alone in my parents’ dark living room waiting patiently for the commercials to end, a bunch of zombies appeared on the screen and quickly lurched forward with their arms outstretched!

Freezing conditions. Dangerous stunts. Here are a few examples of actors who've suffered through some high-profile film roles...
When DiCaprio lifted his Best Actor trophy at this year's Oscars, we're surprised he didn't scream, "It's about damn time I won one of these. I slept in a goddamn hollowed-out horse for you people!"
Ah yes, the hollowed-out horse. But there was also the scene where DiCaprio had to eat a raw bison liver, or the sundry moments where the actor had to crawl in and out of freezing cold lakes and rivers. At a time when whizzy computer effects can make the impossible look possible, the cast and crew of The Revenant decided to take a decidedly analogue approach to making their period survival drama, with the long, arduous shoot taking place in ice-cold parts of Canada, the Us and Argentina.

Gunnar Hansen, who played the iconic villain Leatherface in the original Texas Chain Saw Massacre, died Saturday of pancreatic cancer at his home in Maine, his agent said. He was 68. In the movie, friends visiting their grandfather's house are hunted by Leatherface, a chain-saw wielding maniac. The imagery in Hellraiser perfectly adapts itself to cupcake design and is easily identifiable. With Halloween fast approaching, EW is picking the five best films in a variety of different horror movie categories. Each day, we’ll post our top picks from specific group—say, zombie movies or demon films—and give you the chance to vote on which is your favorite. On Oct. 31, EW will reveal your top choices. Today, we’re taking on the slasher flick. Most slasher flicks boil down to the following ingredients: teenagers (usually described as "nubile") a slow-moving, indestructible serial killer determined to kill said teenagers, death indirectly caused by promiscuity, and the chaste Final Girl, who outlives...

If you're a horror fan anywhere near Worcester, Ma, don't walk, Run to one of the most beloved horror conventions on the East Coast. Of course we're talking about Rock and Shock!
You want celebrity guests? Rock and Shock's got 'em in spades. And some really unique convention celeb guests at that. Like Scott Wilson ("The Walking Dead"), Robert Patrick (Terminator 2: Judgment Day, "The X-Files"), Sharknado director Anthony C. Ferrante and Jason Simmons ("Charmed") making their first ever convention appearances. How about horror icons Robert Englund, Michael Rooker, Gunnar Hansen, Kane Hodder, and Sid Haig; famous horror author Joe Knetter; and Twisted Sister frontman and all-around horror dude Dee Snider? They'll all be there carousing with the fans. One thing many Rock and Shock veterans always comment on is the laid back atmosphere of the festival and how the celebs feel comfortable just milling around with the fans.

Word has come across our desk of a new project that is funded and shaping up to be completely badass. Factory Entertainment is working on a film called Death House, which is being billed as The Expendables of horror. Interested? Read on!
The script for Death House was penned by none other than the original Leatherface himself, Gunnar Hansen, and from what we hear, a cast is being put into place that's gonna be pretty damned insane. We have a list of names already attached but would rather not print 'em until the ink is dry on the proverbial paper. However, we can tease you a bit. We are talking a Captain, a hellish demon, a cornbug, a nightmare man, and even a corpse-raising mad scientist's main squeeze. Do the math.

Leatherface cranks his weapon of choice for yet another outing that starts interesting and wastes any potential it had in the opening minutes. Texas Chainsaw (the seventh film in a franchise that has never lived up to the first) was directed by John Luessenhop (Takers) from a screenplay by Kirsten Elms, Adam Marcus and Debra Sullivan (both who wrote the story with Stephen Susco). It stars Alexandra Daddario, Dan Yeager, Trey Songz, Scott Eastwood, Keram Malicki-Sánchez, Tania Raymonde, Shaun Sipos, Thom Barry, Richard Riehle, and Paul Rae. The film also features cameos from stars of the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre - including Gunnar Hansen, John Dugan and Marilyn Burns. Although the film.s story is so weak it seems...

While films that pit notorious horror icons together to ‘face off’ are far from classic cinema, there is no denying that they can be fun if taken as the mindless entertainment they are intended to be. When Freddy vs. Jason was released, it surpassed expectations by grossing over $80 million domestically. The film almost spawned a sequel, Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash. The follow up never came to fruition, since Sam Raimi wanted to maintain the rights to the Evil Dead franchise. A year later, we saw another epic pairing with Avp: Alien vs. Predator, which also grossed an estimated $80+ million. Then, in 2007, we saw Avpr: Alien vs. Predator: Requiem hit the market. And, of course, who could forget the Oscar contender (sarcasm) that was Puppet Master vs. Demonic Toys.
There are plenty of hoops to jump through in order for studios to bring icons from different franchises together to duke it out.

Our recent Movie Trailers of 2013 roundup should be seared into your brain by now, but in case you need a gory reminder, we have a few new images from one of the movies mentioned: "Texas Chainsaw 3D." Entertainment Weekly featured some photos of the chainsaw-wielding baddie from the horror series, Leatherface.
It looks like he's stalking his prey at a local carnival. The film takes place decades after the original 1974 storyline introduced us to the famed killer and his demented family. When a young woman learns she's inherited a Texas estate, she hits the road with friends to collect her namesake. Her family reunion takes a turn for the bloody. See what happens when Bill Moseley, Alexandra Daddario, Gunnar Hansen, Trey Songz, Marilyn Burns, and the rest of the cast return to Texas on January 4.

The footage does seem to cover a good bit of the movie for those that haven’t seen the trailers, so we’ll add a *spoiler warning* just in case for those that don’t want to know anything about the plot ahead of time.

We’ve got two new pictures of the ladies of Texas Chainsaw 3D a.k.a. the pretty young women who may or may not get naked but will almost certainly get bloody and die.
They are Alexandra Daddario and Tania Raymonde, who should be both familiar to wizened viewers of the glowing orb and the silver screen. Daddario has had roles on White Collar, Parenthood, and Law & Order, with a role in Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief, whereas Raymonde is most notably an alumnus of Lost.
They both, along with Trey Songz, Dan Yeager, and Gunnar Hansen, star in Texas Chainsaw 3D, which opens January 4th.

Texas Chainsaw 3D will be opening in the Us on the first weekend of the New Year, and from what we’ve seen so far, it’s going to be a brilliant horror to kick off the first weekend of the year.
The first trailer landed back in September, and with its release now really just a matter of weeks away, Lionsgate have released a new sixty-second trailer, along with the first TV spot.
“Lionsgate’s Texas Chainsaw 3D continues the legendary story of the homicidal Sawyer family, picking up where Tobe Hooper’s 1974 horror classic left off in Newt, Texas, where for decades people went missing without a trace. The townspeople long suspected the Sawyer family, owners of a local barbeque pit, were somehow responsible. Their suspicions were finally confirmed one hot summer day when a young woman escaped the Sawyer house following the brutal murders of her four friends.
