There’s controversy and then there’s comic book movie controversy. While usually its concerning something more lighthearted like the internet losing their minds over some kind casting decision, we sometimes get the darker stuff. Like “shifting an entire studio’s heirarchy” level of craziness. From reported verbal abuse to alleged threatening of careers to a miserable Ben Affleck, there’s a lot of bad that came from Warner’s 2017 film. So today on DC Revisited, we’re diving into the moustache removing and tone lightening of Joss Whedon’s Justice League.
If you think other films in the DC lineup have had controversy then you haven’t seen anything yet because the stuff that goes on here is absolutely nuts. But I should state outright: we’ll deal with the Snyder Cut and all of that surrounded that in a future video. For now, we’ll just focus on the original filming period,...

Whether it’s using her lasso to get the truth out of her enemies or her gauntlets capable of trapping energy and using it to her advantage, Wonder Woman has some pretty cool abilities. And that’s not even getting into her crazy speed and jumping ability. While we may not have gotten her invisible jet, the other staples of Wonder Woman are all there, so join us on today’s DC Revisited as we dive into Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman.
While we may have finally received a Wonder Woman via Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman, the project had actually been in development for quite some time. Comedy director Ivan Reitman was even attached to the film as a producer in 1996. Then in ’99, Jon Cohen was tapped by now-producer Joel Silver to write a Wonder Woman script. He was even eyeing Sandra Bullock to star in the title role.

Unlike Covid, which forced a sudden and immediate shutdown of feature film productions that ultimately cost the studios anywhere north of $30 million per pic, the Hollywood majors have been planning and bracing for the WGA strike that began today since last fall.
For several of the studios, their theatrical releases dated for 2024 are in post-production, though there are some exceptions.
The contracts for the DGA and SAG-AFTRA do not expire until June 30, and some movie productions are scheduled to start up before then. Studios have figured out workarounds: a handful of tentpole productions are shooting overseas where there isn’t a heavy Teamsters presence, and the possibility of a shoot closing is less likely. Furthermore, studios have either locked scripts for productions, or have gotten sign-off on not having a scribe on set. The priority in case of a shutdown: Getting big action scenes out of the way first. Come Memorial Day weekend,...

With Robert Pattinson answering the Bat-Signal for Matt Reeves’ sequel to 2022’s The Batman, we know the Batcave won’t be empty for long, but much like any superhero casting these days, there were naysayers that thought the former Twilight favorite wouldn’t fit the cape and cowl.
Now that most of them have been proved wrong, is Hollywood finally ready to accept its new Batman? There are whispers that Pattinson has been locked in for a trilogy of movies and various spin-offs, but in some Elseworlds tale, it could’ve been someone completely different carrying the weight of Gotham City on his back. There have been a lot of Batmen over the years, and with that, even more who’ve missed out on the part. Let’s look back at 10 stars who nearly played Batman.
Pierce Brosnan (Batman)
Leaving comic book fans shaken and stirred, 007 himself was once tipped to play the Dark Knight.

George Miller’s Justice League Mortal is one of those films that I wish would have been made. I would have loved to see how it would have turned out!
We’ve got some new concept art for the film that has surfaced and it shows us early concept art of Armie Hammer’s Batman and Adam Brody ‘s Flash. It gives us more of an idea of what they were thinking in terms of character design. When previously talking about the Batsuit, Hammer revealed:
“Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, they built a whole functioning suit that had hydraulics and worked and had microphones all through the suit so I could hear everything happening around m. 100 percent function because we had $300 million to do it, kinda like the budget we had on the movie"

As far as directors’ filmographies go, George Miller may have one the most varied line-ups possible. The director responsible for four Mad Max pics, two Happy Feet movies, and a couple of Babe outings almost added Justice League Mortal to his roster in 2007, but it was nixed deep into pre-production.
A script had been finalized, casting had commenced and sets were being built, but Warner Bros. mysteriously and unceremoniously canceled what would’ve been the first live-action Justice League movie right before filming began. Only now, over a decade since its demise, is production art finally leaking out to the public, including our best look yet at DJ Cotrona’s Superman suit.
As first revealed by Skull101ify on Instagram, the unused designs by Weta Workshop depict a Man of Steel costume much different than what we’ve ever seen on the big screen, and you can check it out for yourself down below.

The tale of Justice League: Mortal is legendary amongst superhero film fans. Though DC lovers had to wait until 2017 to get a Justice League movie, they could’ve got one back in 2009 if Warner Bros.’ initial plans had gone through. Mad Max director George Miller was supposed to helm the all-star team-up film that would’ve beaten The Avengers to the punch by three years, but production issues ultimately stopped it from reaching cameras.
Over time, we’ve gotten some glimpses at how the characters could’ve appeared in the movie, such as Armie Hammer’s Batman, Megan Gale’s Wonder Woman and D.J. Cotrona’s Superman. However, we haven’t had a good look at what Hugh Keays-Byrne could’ve looked like as Martian Manhunter. Fan artist Spdrmnkyxxiii has now taken a stab at imagining what might’ve been though, creating a possible character design for J’onn J’onzz in Mortal.

Flashback to 2007. In the midst of Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, WB and DC were about to beat Marvel Studios to the punch. Mad Max: Fury Road director George Miller had signed on to direct a Justice League film written by husband and wife duo Michele and Kieran Mulroney, subtitled Mortal.
Intended to be the start of a new franchise, the pic had even finalized its cast. D.J. Cotrona (Superman), Megan Gale (Wonder Woman), Common (John Stewart Aka Green Lantern), Adam Brody (Flash), Santiago Cabrera (Aquaman), Hugh Keays-Byrne (Martian Manhunter) and Armie Hammer (Batman) were all set to star, with production scheduled to take place in Australia.
Unfortunately, however, Miller’s superhero epic never made it to Sydney. The 2007-08 Writers Guild of America Strike and other troubles behind the scenes forced WB to abandon Justice League: Mortal and the rest, as they say, is history.

Even though I’m someone who walked away from the Justice League movie that we eventually received with a smile on my face, there’s no way I’m going to say that it was perfect or was the complete package that my favorite characters deserved. Actually, I find myself conflicted because while I do love some of the actors that populate the landscape that makes up the DC Extended Universe such as Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot and Jason Momoa, every little bit of trivia surrounding the canned Justice League Mortal forces me to believe that it’d have been the better product.

Armie Hammer was undoubtedly the fulcrum of that botched project, having signed on to play the Caped Crusader back in 2007. Dogged by internal setbacks and a high-profile writers strike, production was ultimately abandoned two years later, which is all the more disheartening when you consider that Justice League Mortal would have introduced us to a “dark, deranged” Batman – one who was more akin to Christian Bale’s Dark Knight than previous incarnations.

Some more new details have surfaced for George Miller's canceled DC film project Justice League Mortal. The movie was supposed to be made back in 2009 and it would have been a very different take on the DC superhero team than what we are seeing now.
During a recent interview with Jay Baruchel on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. He was cast in the role of the villain, Maxwell Lord. During the podcast, he talked about his time on Justice League Mortal and shared a couple cool sounding scenes involving Wonder Woman (Megan Gale). When talking about her introduction, he explained:
"The first time you see Wonder Woman - the opening scene on Themyscira. It’s just her on top of a steed and she about half a kilometer away from a minotaur.

Thankfully, we’ve learned quite a bit about it in recent years and now, Jay Baruchel – who would have played the villain Maxwell Lord in the movie – has spoken to MTV’s Happy Sad Confused podcast about what his mind-controlling character would have got up to. If it wasn't for the Writers' Strike of 2007, we may have already seen a Justice League film, featuring Armie Hammer as Batman. Ten years ago, Justice League: Mortal was in the works, with a cast including D.J. Controna as Superman, Megan Gale as Wonder Woman, Common as Green Lantern, Adam Brody as Flash, and Santiago Cabrera as Aquaman. George Miller, who most recently directed Mad Max: Fury Road, was set to helm the picture, and though the film never made it past pre-production, as was the case with Superman Lives, the all important costumes were designed, and even tested out, by the cast!
Screenrant sat down with Armie Hammer recently, asking the Man from U.N.C.L.E. and Lone Ranger star if he had the chance to try out the Batman armor designed for Justice League: Mortal:
“Oh yeah, for sure. I put on the whole suit.

Superman and Batman have been the subject of various live-action films, enjoying portrayals from the likes of Christopher Reeve, Christian Bale, and Henry Cavill. But the third member of DC's Holy Trinity has yet to leave Paradise Island -- until now.
Wonder Woman will finally make her blockbuster debut in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" before headlining her solo film in 2017.
It's been a long journey on the road of development hell for Warner Bros., which has spent years trying to make a Wonder Woman movie (or TV show) happen. Here are 11 notable times they tried, and failed.

One superhero movie I would have loved to see is George Miller's vision of DC Comic's Justice League. That's something that we'll never see, though. It's a shame because it could have been amazing. He was developing Justice League: Mortal back in 2009 and it would have brought the team together against Maxwell Lord and Brother Eye.
The cast of the film included Armie Hammer as Batman, D.J. Cotrona as Superman, Megan Gale as Wonder Woman, Adam Brody as Flash, Common as Green Lantern, Santiago Cabrera as Aquaman, Hugh Keays-Byrne as Martian Manhunter, and Jay Baruchel as Maxwell Lord.
You can actually see some concept art from the film here and a test photo shoot of Gale as Wonder Woman here. Zack Snyder is the man who will now bring the Justice League to life on the big screen, and I hope he's able to pull it off.

Though George Miller‘s “Justice League Mortal” was scrapped years ago, photographer Mark Rogers just released a new photo of actress Megan Gale as Wonder Woman on Friday. The image shows Gale in costume as the Amazonian hero, complete with a blue skirt, corset and gold cuffs. The photo came the same day actress Gal Gadot shared the first official photo from Warner Bros.’ “Wonder Woman,” which is slated for a 2017 release. Though her version of Wonder Woman never made it to the big screen due to the 2007-08 Writers’ Guild of America strike, Gale eventually went on to work with Miller.

Yesterday photos surfaced of Megan Gale from “Mad Max: Fury Road” in her Wonder Woman costume. The images were production stills from George Miller’s scrapped “Justice League Mortals.” A few hours later, Gal Gadot released the below never-before-seen photo of Princess Diana in front of what looks like Big Ben…from the upcoming 2017 version of “Wonder Woman.” I'm not saying this photo was released in response to the George Miller images, but hey! New look at Gadot's Amazon Princess! Almost 75 years in the making... #WonderWoman is underway. A photo posted by Gal Gadot (@gal_gadot) on Nov 21, 2015 at 12:14am Pst...

It will only take 75 years for Wonder Woman get her debut on the silver screen. In 2016, Gal Gadot will star(?) alongside Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.” But before Zack Snyder, before “Man of Steel,” and before interconnected cinematic universes…there was George Miller. Back in 2007, the “Mad Max” director was at on time on track to deliver DC’s superheroes in “Justice League Mortals” in 2009. However, production was crippled by the Writer’s Strike and the project never recovered. Miller moved on to “Fury Road” and the rest is cinematic history. Had it come to passed, “Justice League Mortals” would’ve starred Armie Hammer (Batman), D.J. Cotrona (Superman), Common (Green Lantern), Adam Brody (Flash), Santiago Cabrera (Aquaman), Hugh Keays-Byrne (Martian Manhunter), Jay Baruchel (Maxwell Lord), and Megan Gale (Wonder Woman). If you recognize Wonder Woman’s actress, it’s because she recently turned...

With the "Wonder Woman" solo movie having begun production, an earlier and ultimately discarded incarnation of the character has seen the light of day today.
Photographer Mark Rogers has used his social media accounts to share a couple of shots of supermodel Megan Gale in costume as Wonder Woman in George Miller's cancelled "Justice League Mortal" project from back in 2007 & 2008.
The look certainly differs from that Gal Gadot is seen sporting in next year's "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice". Boasting a brighter blue cloth skirt, more accurate headpiece and quite different leather corset - it's a distinctly different take.
Gale, who also starred in this year's "Mad Max: Fury Road" as the Valkyrie, was to star in the film alongside Armie Hammer as Batman, D.J. Cotrona as Superman, Adam Brody as the Flash, Common as the Green Lantern, Jay Baruchel as Maxwell Lord, Santiago Cabrera as Aquaman, Hugh Keays-Byrne as Martian Manhunter,...

As many of you already know, back in 2008, Mad Max director George Miller was set to direct a Justice League movie for Warner Bros. The project ended up being canceled for numerous reasons. It's one of those films that I wish would have happened. I think it really could have been great.
The movie was called Justice League: Mortal, and the plug was pulled on it right before it was supposed to start shooting. The film had an interesting cast that included Armie Hammer as Batman, D.J. Cotrona as Superman, Megan Gale as Wonder Woman, Adam Brody as Flash, Common as Green Lantern, Santiago Cabrera as Aquaman, Hugh Keays-Byrne as Martian Manhunter, and Jay Baruchel as Maxwell Lord.

"Justice League: Mortal" is a name many fans may have heard but know it has slowly faded into obscurity. It used to be the title for a film based on the iconic and powerful comic book super team, but it died before it could walk, and never allowed anyone to see the vision George Miller had for a comic book film. But, it has recently resurfaced, with a new documentary based on the film being a hot topic of discussion for fans everywhere.

Justice League: Mortal is a well documented film-that-never-was. Filming was set to begin in early 2008 in Australia for a 2009 release date, however, Warner Bros. pulled the plug on the eve of filming. The film starred Armie Hammer as Batman, D.J. Cotrona as Superman, Megan Gale as Wonder Woman, Adam Brody as Flash, Common as Green Lantern, Santiago Cabrera as Aquaman, Hugh Keays-Byrne as Martian Manhunter and Jay Baruchel as Maxwell Lord. Today, production photos from the project have made their way online after roughly seven years, giving us our first look at Megan Gale's Wonder Woman. Of course, these days, everyone is well aware that Gal Gadot will be portraying Wonder Woman in Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice before making her solo-feature debut in 2017. Here's a look at the two costumes side-by-side. Which do you prefer?...

Before he reinvented Mad Max for a new generation with Fury Road, director George Miller was planning on bringing DC’s finest to the big screen for the first time with the now defunct Justice League: Mortal. Various events such as production location issues and the writer’s strike ultimately derailed the project, but not before Miller and his team were fairly deep into the thick of it.
The cast would have included the likes of Armie Hammer (The Lone Ranger) as Batman, Adam Brody (The O.C.) as The Flash, D.J. Cotrona (G.I. Joe: Retaliation) as Superman and Megan Gale (Mad Max: Fury Road) as Wonder Woman, and most of them actually got to see themselves in costume as their characters – though we never have, until now.

The story is already part of superhero movie lore, but in case you missed it, here's the short version. Gearing up to film in 2008, George Miller's "Justice League Mortal" was eventually scrapped due to complications from the writer's strike and a budget that wound up soaring when tax breaks couldn't be secured in Australia. The cast would've included Armie Hammer as Batman, D.J. Cotrona as Superman, Adam Brody as The Flash, and Megan Gale as Wonder Woman, but alas none of it came to pass. However, Michael Angarano reveals was in the mix for the movie at one point, but his ego got in the way. "I’ve auditioned for a couple [of superhero movies] in my life. I screen-tested, or came very close, for '[The Amazing] Spider-Man,' the Andrew Garfield one. There was another one when I was really young. I auditioned for 'Justice League' and I got called...

There are rumblings that Mad Max: Fury Road director George Miller could be taking over the Superman franchise for Man of Steel 2.
The speculation about the 70-year-old filmmaker being handed the keys to Henry Cavill's next solo Superman film began with Jon Schnepp, the director of documentary The Death of Superman Lives: What Happened?.
Schnepp claimed on Popcorn Talk that Miller is currently being sought by Warner Bros to take over Man of Steel 2 from Zack Snyder, who is busy with two upcoming Justice League movies.
Some DC fans will remember that Miller was in 2007 attached to direct Justice League: Mortal, the shelved movie that would have starred DJ Cotrona as Superman, Armie Hammer as Batman and Megan Gale as Wonder Woman.

A little less than a decade ago, George Miller was within a hair’s breadth of directing a DC Comics movie — “Justice League Mortal,” a big budget take on Superman, Batman, et al. In 2007, Miller got as far as building sets in Australia, and cast all the major roles, with D.J. Cotrona as Superman, Armie Hammer as Batman, Megan Gale as Wonder Woman, Adam Brody as The Flash, Common as Green Lantern, and Jay Baruchel as the villain, Maxwell Lord. The movie was cancelled shortly before production got underway due to various factors, but it appears that fresh from “Mad Max: Fury Road,” Miller might be getting another chance to make his superhero movie. John Schnepp, the director of “The Death Of Superman Lives” (a documentary about Tim Burton’s earlier unmade DC Comics movie) was a guest on the DC Movie News Show (via Latino Review), and states that...

Back in May we heard about Ryan Unicomb and producers Aaron Cater and Steven Caldwell's plans to get a documentary focusing on George Miler's defunct Justice League movie off the ground. Like the recent The Death of Superman Lives doc, it would take a behind-the-scenes look at the production and ultimately what led to it being shut down. The project already has producers, writers, and private investors on board, and recently Unicomb was able to secure the services of Indiegogo to help with a crowd funding campaign - but they still need the go ahead from Warner Bros. Though preliminary research has already begun (the doc's Twitter account has even shared some concept art), unless they get the studio's permission to use the various costume designs, Bts stills and shots of the cast - which included the likes of Armie Hammer as Batman, Megan Gale as Wonder Woman, D.J. One of the more anticipated unofficial projects in the works is budding Australian filmmaker Ryan Unicomb's upcoming "Miller's Justice League Mortal," a documentary about the rise and collapse of "Mad Max" helmer George Miller's "Justice League Mortal" project several years ago.
The film is still a long way from full production as various hurdles have to be cleared, and the chief one is about to hit. If Magazine reports that the filmmakers have formally pitched Warner Bros. Pictures in an effort to use characters and images from the project.
Unicomb says: "It's a nervous wait. George Miller and [his producing partner] Doug Mitchell know about the project, so now it all hangs on Warner Bros' involvement." It appears Miller and Mitchell's contributions will only come with a sign off from Warners.

Armie Hammer is actually relieved that George Miller's Justice League movie was cancelled.
The actor was poised to play Batman in the film, which would have also featured DJ Cotrona as Superman and Megan Gale as Wonder Woman.
The Justice League movie you'll never get to see: George Miller's lost superhero epic
Speaking to Yahoo Movies, Hammer said that he thinks he was too young to do the character of Bruce Wayne justice.
"I would have made a terrible Batman. Really terrible," he said. "It's too young. No-one wants to see a 19-year-old Batman. What can a 19-year-old do?"
Hammer's Man from Uncle co-star Henry Cavill, who is set to star in the new Justice League movie in 2017, agreed that it wasn't the right time for him to take the role.
"It'd be like [Bruce Wayne's] parents had just been shot last weekend, and so you became Batman," he said.
