Carter Burwell said about the score:
“One of the riskier decisions Simon Curtis and I made with the score was to withhold the main theme until the middle of the film, when A. A. Since his inception in the late 1920’s Winnie the Pooh has become a worldwide phenomenon, featuring countless books and adaptations throughout the characters’ existence. Throughout this time, the story has never been told about how author A.A Milne came to create the lovable bear–until now. ‘Goodbye Christopher Robin‘ tells the semi-true story of how Milne (Domhnall Gleeson) used his son, also named Christopher Robin, as inspiration for the world of Winnie the Pooh. As the books grow in popularity, the complications of success permeate back into Milne’s family life.
Based on the trailer, the film seems poised to garner a decent amount of awards season buzz, and Domhnall Gleeson’s performance seems to be one to keep an eye on this fall season. Directed by Simon Curtis (My Week With Marilyn), the script was written by Frank Cottrell-Boyce and Simon Vaughan. The film was produced by Damian Jones and Steve Christian.

Our International Sales Agent (Isa) of the Day coverage is back again for this year's Cannes Film Festival. We will feature successful, upcoming, innovative and trailblazing agents from around the world, and cover the latest trends in sales and distribution. Beyond the numbers and deals, this segment will also share inspirational and unique stories of how these individuals have evolved and paved their way in the industry, and what they envision for the new waves in global cinema.
108 Media is a new sales company out of Toronto. Founder Abhi Rastogi sees it as "a force that opposes the standards of the film industry, redefining boundaries of what is possible and achievable." 108 Media recently acquired the worldwide sales rights for The Insect King by Priscilla Cameron and will begin selling the picture at the Cannes Film Festival. 108 is also excited to bring titles like He Never Died, which stars Henry Rollins as a punk rocker cannibal and Camera Trap, a wildlife thriller about a film crew that pursues local sightings of a rare wildcat in Nepal.
Abhi Rastogi shares some of his history, sales and more about 108's Cannes lineup:
How did you start 108 Media?
I started the company two years ago. We looked at how sales and distribution was done for the last seven or eight years, and we looked at bringing something different to the independent marketplace. And so we've tried to stick to a certain model where you can expect not so regular things.
We are doing theatrical releases in North America. We've released seven films theatrically in the last one and a half years--some of the most high profile films being Midnight's Children, based on Salman Rushdie's book, The We And The I, based on Michel Gondry. We also act as a foreign sales company, so we're very excited to introduce new projects and new voices to the international market.
What's your background?
Prior to this, I was a managing director of a company called Cinesavvy. We produced films like Frankie & Alice, starring Halle Berry; I was an executive producer on the film. Lionsgate released it last month. Prior to that, I was a distribution manager at Cinemavault, which is a Toronto based sales company.
What will 108 bring to Cannes?
We're bringing first footage from the film He Never Died, which stars Henry Rollins as a punk rocker and a cannibal who never died. This was a film that I was introduced to in September. And as a sales agent, you also get involved with packaging a lot; we were able to package the film right after Tiff in record time. We shot the film in November, so we're bringing it to Cannes.
Then we're brining this amazing, stunning chiller that was made in Nepal called Camera Trap, produced by the very high profile Steve Christian of Pinewood Pictures from the UK. It was shot all on location in Nepal last year. It's about a crew that goes to look for a snow leopard and finds something else. What's amazing is that the filmmakers have done a lot of nature related visuals. The film is stunning, visually captivating, and very realistic.
How are sales?
The sales are doing very well, because we're realistic about what the market can bare. We want to bring exciting projects, but at the same time, we are very careful of what we are requesting from our buyers and what's needed on their parts to support these films. It's more about collaboration for us. We tend to do a lot of business with the same buyers.
Some territories are more challenging than others, but that's the nature of our business. Spain is challenging--there are fewer buyers that are chasing after much higher profile content. That's because there are just not enough outlets for independent films to be released there. France has been a bit more challenging because of the home video markets collapsing there.
At the same time, we're doing very well in Asia through our Tokyo office. We tend to sell well across the board, including Germany, the UK and Italy.

108 is an agitator – a force that opposes the standards of the film industry, redefining boundaries of what is possible and achievable.
The media industry is not what it used to be, it is untraditional and media is consumed differently, in an ever changing and increasingly diversified forms of delivery and interaction. 108 Media is as unpredictable, leading edge and flexible as today's media demands – we’re targeted, we’re quick to execute, and we give the audience what they want, where they want it, and when they want it!
The Why is the easy part, because it is required of a media company to do so or be left behind like print media. The How is the interesting part. 108 Media measures social, blog and web traffic and consumer patterns to fully understand its consumers' dynamics, location and tendencies, thereby building effective and timely strategies to maximize media exposure and consumption efficiency. Further, 108 Media controls the pipelines of delivery, creating a truly vertically integrated next-generation media company fully capable to producing, marketing, and distributing media to all major Digital VOD, Broadband VOD and Paid Cable platforms.
We cut the old mantras of advertising and media delivery and enable a truly cross-promotional and cross platform digital experience.

Exclusive: Protagonist exec named head of acquisitions and development at Pinewood Pictures.
Protagonist Pictures head of acquisitions Jeremy Baxter is to join UK production outfit Pinewood Pictures as head of acquisitions and development.
Baxter will join the production arm of the Pinewood Studios Group, run by Former CinemaNX chairman Steve Christian, in late April.
The addition of the executive is a coup for Pinewood, which to date has backed productions including Crispian Mills’ A Fantastic Fear Of Everything, Amma Asante’s period-drama Belle and Richard Shepard’s Dom Hemingway, and is now looking to ramp its production activities.
Parent company Pinewood Studios manages the multi-million pound Isle of Man Film Fund and was recently appointed as advisor to the Welsh government on their new film and TV investment pool.

Check out the official trailer for Amma Asante’s Belle starring Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Sam Reid, Tom Wilkinson, Emily Watson, Tom Felton, Miranda Richardson and Matthew Goode.
Scheduled for a May 2014 release, the film was shown at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival to positive reviews.
Justin Chang (Variety): “The pleasures of Jane Austen and the horrors of the British slave trade make a surprisingly elegant fit in Amma Asante’s handsome period piece.” John Oursler (Sound on Sight): “Amma Asante’s Belle, a new entrant in the genre, strikes all the right notes.” John DeFore (The Hollywood Reporter): “Moviegoers should respond well when Fox Searchlight brings it to theaters next spring.”
I can’t wait to see this. Being a fan of period-piece dramas, Belle looks to be the perfect blend of courage, love and history.

Latino animation Chico & Rita is set to become a stage musical, and the stars were out for the Chemical Brothers' new film
Cuban heels
Hot on the heels of its Oscar nomination last week, animated feature Chico & Rita is set to become a stage musical. The film, telling the romantic story of a Havana piano player and a beautiful singer separated by time and circumstance, has all the ingredients for a stage show, including a successful soundtrack by the late-flowering Cuban musician Bebo Valdés. The film also features music from Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker, Tito Puente and Thelonious Monk, and is set in the late-1940s period when the New York jazz scene began to absorb immigrant percussionists from Havana's nightclub scene such as Chano Pozo. The film, produced on the Isle of Man by CinemaNX and directed by Fernando Trueba and Javier Mariscal, has already won a European...

This spring no less than three British-made sports documentaries get a cinematic release. Does this mark the start of a new relationship between sport and film?
Sport and cinema have been uneasy bedfellows over the years, their dual history mapped out by a series of rather awkward public conjoinings. Football has long been something close to a running joke on film, its high points restricted to the Brian Glover Pe teacher bits in Kes, the luminous pre-modern internationalism of Escape to Victory, and any action movie in which geezer-for-hire and former Wimbledon clogger Vinnie Jones takes a beating.
Perhaps sport and film stand apart as poles: an oil-and-water collision of the loud, the outdoor and the boisterous with the dimly lit, the indoor and the ruminative. That might be about to change. This month three British-made sporting documentaries have had a cinematic release. Two are cricket films: From the Ashes...

Set to star a pretty great cast including Jodie Whittaker (Attack the Block) and Luke Evans (Robin Hood), and is directed by Sex and Drugs and Rock and Roll helmer Mat Whitecross. Must say the cast sounds too good not to take into account.
Fiesta Prods.’ Esther Douglas and Fiona Neilson will produce, while exec producer credits will go to CinemaNX’s Steve Christian and Marc Samuelson, Merzbau’s Phillip Kier and Coldplay’s Chris Martin, Guy Berryman, Jonny Buckland and Will Champion.

Review: It’s been a while since a breezy, British action comedy has arrived on U.S. shores; their heyday being in the ‘80s when such titles like “A Fish Called Wanda” and “Time Bandits” held their place on the marquee.
When it comes to mobsters, guns and laughs, British director Jonathan Lynn knows a thing or two about crafting a crowd pleasing caper. Lynn is so good at it, Hollywood tapped him for his stylings with “The Whole Nine Yards,” “Sgt. A British teen drama which helped launch the careers of Nicholas Hoult and Dev Patel is set to be transformed for the big screen. Patel landed his role in Oscar-winning film "Slumdog Millionaire" after director Danny Boyle's daughter pointed out his performance in "Skins", a series focusing on the debauched lives of a group of students in Bristol, England.
Hoult went on to land movie roles in "A Single Man" and "Clash of the Titans" following his stint in the racy drama. Now "Skins" bosses are hoping to copy their former employees' success at the box office with a full-length feature film next year.

It’s been all-but confirmed in recent months, but now the official announcement has been made: E4’s teen drama Skins will be hitting the big screen sometime next year, according to a statement picked up by Variety. And given that the show is still in production, with the most recent series aired earlier this year, the Skins creators and producers are most definitely involved, which should hopefully keep the quality level high. Regular director Charles Martin will be behind the camera while, according to distributor Steve Christian, writer Jack Thorne has "finished nearly 95% of the screenplay."So what can we expect from the movie in terms of the cast, especially since some of the first generation (such as Nicholas Hoult and Dev Patel) have moved on to busy film careers? "Everyone wants to know right now but until the whole package is put together we're keeping quiet," Christian says.

Summer 2011 release planned for E4's take on adolescence
Skins, the sex, drink and drug-fuelled drama that depicts teenage life as it often is rather than how parents imagine it, is to migrate to the big screen.
After a year of speculation about the E4 show, producers today confirmed that shooting would begin in September on a film to be released in summer 2011.
Steve Christian, executive producer on the film and chair of the film finance and distribution company CinemaNX, said the show – which few could accuse of presenting a sanitised picture of adolescence – was perfect for the big screen. But he added: "The biggest critics of Skins are the Skins fans so it's going to be a big challenge. The programme has this incredible fanbase despite all the characters changing."

London -- Isle of Man production and finance banner CinemaNX kept its promise made in Cannes this year to come up with innovative distribution deals by sealing pacts to put "Me and Orson Welles" in front of British audiences.
The project, starring Zac Efron, Claire Danes and introducing Christian McKay as Orson Welles, is directed by Richard Linklater and is set to open here in early December.
CinemaNX said Tuesday it has pacted with Warner Bros. Entertainment U.K. to roll the film out in theaters on around 180 screens. Warner Bros. will partner on other distribution platforms including video-on-demand and pay and free television, CinemaNX said. CinemaNX sealed a deal with Freestyle Releasing in September.
But the Isle of Man funder also said it has struck a deal with retail giant Tesco to give its stores exclusive DVD rights for 12 months on the title from Easter 2010.

The Toronto and Other Fall Festivals Rights RoundUp list looks quite sizeable for what is claimed to have been a quiet festival season. Though it's true business down, the large number of acquisitions has not been viewed as such and yet is the result of a new trend which has been sneaking up over the past few years and has now taken hold. Distributors and sales agents now acquire Before the festivals rather than during. It developed out of Cannes' prescreenings which have mostly been discontinued, and it could go so far as to change the pre-Sundance adage Not to show the film to anyone before Sundance.
This Rights RoundUp for acquisitions executives, distributors, international sales agents, investors and producers is different from my previous Rr Reports. It is no longer a report based on data and FilmFinders is out of the equation. This listing of rights acquired Before the actual festival,...

Variety reports that Me and Orson Welles will finally arrive in theaters after multiple delays. Cinemanx has set November 25 as the release date, matching it with Nine, the musical directed by Rob Marshall (Chicago), and The Road, starring Viggo Mortenson, which also got a new release date.
Me and Orson Welles stars Zac Efron, Claire Danes, and Christian McKay in the title role. Behind the camera is Richard Linklater, who also directed School of Rock, Fast Food Nation, and Dazed and Confused.
The story is based on the Robert Kaplow book of same name, which involves Richard (played by Efron), a teenager cast in Welles' 1937 production of Julius Caesar. Along the way, Richard develops a romantic relationship with an opportunistic production assistant (played by Danes). When he learns that she is also the object of Welles' affections, tensions build, possibly threatening the production.
