Gojira -1.0 (2023)
King of the Kaiju
Godzilla Minus One is a masterclass of visual effects spectacle, good storytelling and effective cinematic work. Beautifully shot, well directed and studded with a cast of pure talent, this film takes what is a very silly concept and premise and elevates it to a very suspenceful, thrilling action masterpiece that is sure to set itself in stone among the cinematic greats of history.
Epic in scale and intimate in execution, the character of Godzilla feels deliberate and alive. Its eyes are haunting and show a clear intent in the harm it is causing. This is not just an animal causing animalistic havoc. This is pure and fully embodied evil that is here to deal horror to mankind. A wonderful and effective allegory for not just atomic bombs, but war.
Godzilla Minus One is an amazing film that should be enjoyed on the big screen. 9/10.
Blue Beetle (2023)
A Really, really fun Mexican Family movie, mixed ontop of a pretty mediocre superhero flick
Anything to do with the family in this movie is straight up amazing. It's a really charming story about a boy that wants to lift his poor immigrant family up the ranks by being the first to go to college. The family dynamic is great. Nobody hates anybody. There are disagreements between brother and sister, Mother and Uncle, but at the heart of it, they all love each other.
The grandma is absolutely hillarious and had me in stitches numerous times.
The uncle is great too. He's really charming, funny and best of all, quirky.
Here comes the bad. Despite a really well written lead, and an amazing family dynamic, the whole superhero part of the film is not very good.
The Dynamic between the lead and the blue beetle suit is really fun and a creative spin on the Ironman/Jarvis dynamic, but underdeveloped IMO.
The main villain has a few, delightfully evil character moments, but her really strong introduction falls flat by the third act and she just ends up becomming a boring bad guy.
The whole structure is VERY by the numbers and it is a formula that has become very tiring.
The first half of the third act is REALLY fun, because it focuses on the family, but just as soon as we get to the villain half of the act, it becomes really boring.
An incredibly well acted film. GREAT direction, really good dialouge, great action, good (at times) CGI and a REALLY mediocre script.
6/10.
Black Adam (2022)
I want my money back
Black Adam is a movie. It has characters, and there most certainly is a plot.
Black Adam is however, not a very good movie.
It is endlessly boring. The only saving grace is the unending, and effortless charisma of Pierce Brosnan, which doesn't say much as the man can simply exist in a room, and I would be mildly entertained for an hour or two.
I have more or less forgotten the plot to the film. The ending was patently insane, inept and un-understandable.
The acting is wooden and stiff, and the dialog is absolutely the worst.
The Rock, the otherwise funny and charismatic "dude" does not work as an angry and brooding man. He simply does not fit the character of Black Adam. In fact, Black "Teth" Adam, is a very poorly written brooding dark evil person. His motivations are strange, his intentions are completely unknown.
He's just pushed around by the plot. Climax happens, because "plot" and the movie ends.
It's not good.
Go spend your money on a really good movie, like Bullet Train or Top Gun Mav.
3/10.
EuroTrip (2004)
Average from a film-making perspective, but a masterpiece at MY TYPE OF HUMOR.
EuroTrip is one of my favorite movies. It's a qoutable blast, and while the film-making is average (pretty great for what the film is), what matters is how much fun you're having while watching it.
It's clear that on every step of the way, everyone was having a blast making it. The writers must have had so much fun, the director must have been laughing his ass off daily, the actors must have had the time of their lives.
You can feel that energy as it translates directly into the product. This film is not for everyone, but it's right up my alley in terms of humor. I love it. It's one of my favorite movies, purely from the amount of enjoyment I get from it.
Kaze tachinu (2013)
Boring and aimless, Yet stunningly animated.
I watched The Wind Rises straight off Porco Rosso, another Ghibli classic involving airplanes. While I LOVED Porco Rosso, i found that The Wind Rises was a very aimless movie. The plot feels almost non-existant in it's sluggish pace, the characters are likeable yet, everything just feels cold and emotionless.
The emotional plotbeats that were supposed to make you emotional didn't hit, and the film just left me fairly dissapointed.
One saving grace was the SPECTACULAR animation. The film is so amazingly animated it's insane. The only thing lacking in the animation department was the fantastical spin. Unlike other Ghibli movies, it's too grounded. The animation sticks to our real worlds physics, and honestly would have been better in live action.
5/10.
JoJo no Kimyô na Bôken: Set's Alessi, Part 1 (2015)
By far the worst Episode of Part 3.
I fricking LOVE jojos. Part 1 was good, Part 2 was AWESOME and Part three was great. HOWEVER! This episode and second part, just show an almost unacceptable level of perversion. It's downright uncomfortable to sit through this episode. The villain, while funny, is extremely unlikeable, the main characters don't feel like their usual selves, and the episode just DRAGS.
Atleast the end has a good payoff.
But otherwise, most attempts of jokes in this episode just makes you cringe. It's an uncomfortable, slow and perverted mess of an episode in an otherwise great show.
The Helgason Show (2019)
An absolute joy...
The writing is superb. The acting is amazing and the comedy is just on point. Absolutely amazing!
The Room (2003)
Actual genius
The movie is so geniously bad, i would have a bad Time discribing the plot.
So this Guy Johnny, true american hero, he had everything, good looks, good job and many friends. And this girl, his fiancé she betray him! And this Johnny, he go crazy, decides to kill himself infront of the World to see. And maybe Johnny is Vampire.
Ok, that was from the Disaster Artist, a movie about a bad movie.
I love it...
South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut (1999)
Actually my favorite musical
This movie is a pure joy through and through. The music is well done, the animation fits the tone, and the characters are fun and relateble.
Trey Parker and Matt Stones style of comedy shines through brilliantly as they mix a sincere message with a barrage of well acted and performer musical number pocking fun at the genre as much as it's praising it.
The story is engaging and the villain is hallarious.
9/10
Steven Universe: The Movie (2019)
wut?
Uhhh.... so this movie, is, uhhh. It's good. not bad in anyway, it's got that classical Steven Universe charm, and its wonderfully animated, but theres just something about it.
First of all, too much singing. I like musicals, i like Steven Universe, and i mostly like the songs in Steven Universe. But sometimes, there's just too much of a good thing. There was a point in the movie, where less than ten seconds after a song ended, A NEW ONE BEGAN! then after that, 20 seconds, and A THIRD SONG!
Spinel is a great villain, but her arch is all over the place, it packed plenty of emotion, and Rebecca Sugars strong writing shines through, but her character simply lacks coherence.
Third. it is very obvious that this movie was written by like 17 people. count the credits, 8 people made the story, then 13 wrote and storyboarded it, which makes the movie less consitent, both in tone and quality.
Overall a fun and satisfying movie, but it is flawed in many ways.
6/10
Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood (2019)
You did it again mr Tarantino.
This movie isnt about The plot, the plot just serves the characters.
This movie is about that special friendship that Cliff and Rick share, and the dark side of the hippie move ment most elect to forget. This is not for everyone, but i certainly did in enjoy it.
8/10
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
Honestly, not that bad.
It is in No way, a perfect movie. It has flaws. Some parts drag, it can get a little confusing, and (this is coming from someone with vision impairment, so take it with a grain of salt) the dark lighting and colorgrading can sometimes make it Hard to see whats going on.
Other than that, it delivers some really satisfying action setpieces, and Lex is probably the best part of the movie, with Affleck and Cavills fabulous performances as a good second.
The end was fairly well put together and hit some nice emotion al beats, the soundtrack was absolutely incredible, and definitely helped make the less emotional scenes stand out.
A flawed, non perfect, but servicable movie.
7/10
Disenchantment (2018)
Why is it so boring?
I was excited for Disenchantment, but i couldnt watch past the 4th episode. The characters are weak, the plot is boring, and it lacks proper soul.
Futurama was a master example of this done right, Disenchantment is a master example of this done wrong.
Forrest Gump (1994)
HOLY F@&K
Wow. All I can say is... Wow.
It's sooo good. Forrest is one of the most likable characters of all time. Despite going through death, betrayal the whole shebang, he still keeps on being positive.
And the ending is both heartwarming and heartbreaking.
10/10
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017)
A bloated mess
My main problem with this movie is the two subplots. Ego just doesnt fit the tone established anywhere else in the movie and it's too wacky and too serious. It makes the movie feel long and boring but at the same time, bloated and overstuffed.
I loved the first one, but this was just... It feels like James Gunn was writting two movies, and every other page was swapped out with each other, 1, 2, 1, 2, 1, 2 etc.
I'm just dissapointed...
Coco (2017)
best Pixar has ever put out.
I watched this November 2nd for day of the dead. I had heard good about it, but WOOOWIE! it was good. The twist honestly shocked me and the animation is just sooo pretty.
Watch it, it's worth it.
Wonder Woman (2017)
Bloated and bland. Although a great soundtrack
I was pretty excited about Wonder Woman. I'd heard a lot of good stuff about it during the one year between its release and me watching it. "It's the best DCEU film!" blah blah, you've heard it.
I was wonderfully let down. First of all, the structure and plot is very much a carbon copy of Captain America THE FIRST AVENGER.
Evil Scientist guys have invented a new weapon that will pose a huge threat to humanity and make them win the world war.
Hero with greater strength than they realize go to help and assembles a team to destroy the enemy and the new weapon.
There's a guy named Steve, who sacrifices himself in the new weapon built by the Nazis, I mean Germans.
And this weapon just happens to be a plane.
It's an ok movie, but it left me very disappointed.
Predator (1987)
GET TO DA CHOPPA!
This movie is delightful. It has a good pace and is over before you know it. The predator actually made me jump a few times and the fear of the unknown helps create some real tension.
The acting is expectedly over the top and at the same time wonderfully delivered. I think that it could have been better in the VFX department but i understand the technical limitations of 1987.
overall a good movie 8/10.
The Dark Knight (2008)
AMAZING! FANTASTIC! but overrated...
This movie is absolutely amazing.... but it is very overrated, first of all... It's not a Superhero movie... it's an engaging and well made Action/crime-thriller...
Justice League is a better superhero movie, because it's an actual superhero movie, no doubt The Dark Knight is awesome and Justice League sucks... But still...
8/10 amazing.... Watch it!
The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
Objectively the best movie ever made...
In my subjective opinion, Empire Strikes Back (1980) is the best movie and my personal favorite... But this movie, this movie is just soooo good... While it is not my favorite movie, it deserves the title of "Best movie of all time"...
It's never Boring, the characters are fun and relatable, and the motivations are just AMAZING!
This movie is worth a watch, any time
Alien (1979)
My favorite horror movie!
This movie is purely amazing!... The tension is real, the plot is memorable and the monster is just ICONIC!...
Ridley Scott knew how to deliver a tense and cramped movie, set on a space ship in the middle of nothing...
The special effects are amazing, seeing as it came out in 79!..
Definetly worth a watch...
Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
Impossible to forget
I gave this movie 8/10 to Begin with. Now i have given it a few Months to really sink in and i simply have to give it 9/10 simply due to the fact that i still vividly remember it.
The pacing is slow and it takes it's time to show All the different plot lines slowly merch together as the film comes to an end. Yet, it does not feel slow. It moves along constanly and not a minute is wasted. You are never bored and your mind is constantly racing trying to piece everything together.
Thanos is both charismatic and yet very frightening. The acting from Josh Brolin is phenomenal and the motion-capture is actually flawless.
The battles are engaging and large, yet they still feel small and down to earth, which gives the film a very nice feel and style.
The cinematography is absolutely astonishing, and the set design, costume work and overall look alone, is enough to Sell this movie.
Avengers Infinity War can both be watched as a thoughtful and emotional film, and fun movienight entertainment.
9/10 one of 2018s most memorable movies...
Lykke-Per (2018)
Interesting and thoughtful.
This movie is Long, and it feels Long. But it uses that, it takes it's time and establishes wellwritten and charismatic characters that you emotionally engage in.
It has aome beautiful set design and costumes are on point. The actors do a very good job, including the lead who has a striking ressemblence to Martin Freeman.
Overall a wellrounded and satisfying film, good to watch with a group of people where you can discuss the plot as the movie Rolls along.
AVP: Alien vs. Predator (2004)
Fun, dumb, stupid action.
This movie is not that good. But it provides fine entertainment for those who just wants a GOOD movienight.
Nothing special, but still fun...
