Click (2006)
It's not Billy Madison Adam Sandler.....
I am an Adam Sandler fan, but what this movie made me realize is there are two categories of Adam Sandler fans. Those that loved Billy Madison and those that loved Big Daddy. Both are funny, but Big Daddy is a more mature comedy with a dramatic, sad twist. I love all Adam's movies, so I was eager to see Click. Click was not at all what I had expected! The film is so emotionally moving, I actually teared up at the end, which I also did during Big Daddy. I also busted out laughing several times which I've done at all of Sandler's flicks. The comedic dialog in this movie is quick and very witty, not silly and deliberate like Billy Madison or Happy Gilmore. There are some one-liners that are absolutely hysterical but if you don't catch them you won't fully appreciate the sarcastic undertone of the movie.
Click shows how Sandler has matured as not only an actor, but as a man in general and how he's been capable of making movies that have matured along with his audience. This is not a chick flick, or a date movie, although it makes good for both. You could see this with anyone or all by yourself and still appreciate it. Yes, the ending is a little predictable and cliché, but it gets the point across and the movie is still really enjoyable. I highly recommend it.
**Check out the red-headed neighbor kid!!! He is HILARIOUS!**
ATL (2006)
Too predictable but still cute
This movie was so predictable it was borderline boring. However, if you're into Southern culture and hip-hop, it's a must-see. T.I. was fantastic as Rashad, although at certain points he looked so much older then the other characters it was a little disturbing to see him making out with a girl that could easily pass for a high school student and him being damn near 30! What I didn't expect out of this movie was some of the hilarious one-liners and scenes. There is a scene where Ant is in the car of a VERY southern man about to make a sale and the man is speaking pure ATL and there's actually subtitles for what he's saying. That was hilarious to me because like most "Northerners", I know how it can be damn near impossible to understand what most deep Southerners are saying half the time.
Another funny scene was the morning after scene with Rashad, Ant and their Uncle. I'm not going to ruin it for everybody, but let's just say it was so true to life, especially for high school males, that it was another really funny aspect to the film.
And that attribute right there is what makes this film enjoyable, despite it's extremely predictability, it's true-to-life quality. The characters are relatable, their actions, trials and tribulations very common and overall, whether you're from the south or not, you can easily relate to these character's high school era issues.
Pay attention too for all the little sarcastic cameos. Bone Crusher makes a quick appearance but his one line is LMAO funny. Monica's in it too.
Cruel Intentions (1999)
Amazing
This movie should have a higher rating then R if it can. In fact, if there was just a little more explicit sex in it, it probably would've pushed the NC-17 rating. There are drug references, scenes with drugs, homosexuality, incest (sort-of), all sorts of insanity. And it is all with a bunch of rich, overly gorgeous teenagers. Hmmm how lovely? Ryan Phillipe is amazing as Sebastian. He plays the character so believably with his perfect teeth and curly blond hair. However I think this role type-casted him a little bit. He was young and it was his first real role in a successful commercial film. It exposed him to audiences that hadn't really seen him much yet, and I think it sort of forced him into that rich-boy character; which honestly, is really a shame because he is rather talented.
Reese Witherspoon is painfully believable as the virginal Annette. What really got me about this film and her role opposite her real life husband (lucky bitch) was that in the scene where she starts crying when Sebastian tells her she was just a conquest, and she slaps him, that actually wasn't in the script. But they both got so emotional in the scene the director decided to keep it and right after they shot that scene Ryan was so upset he actually threw up. Talk about quality acting! However my favorite performance in this film was that of Sarah Michelle Gellar who before this film, I was not a huge fan. To me she was just Buffy, but after this film, I was convinced she was evil in a past life. How can you play such a completely conniving, bitchy, selfish, horrible character without at least some personal reflection? After seeing this film I really started to think that she could honestly play a killer or stalker or some other type of psycho in a thriller with her creepiness and lack of emotion.
Excellent movie over all - I highly recommend it, but not to anyone under the age of 16.
Legally Blonde (2001)
Adorable blonde movie
OK, I am sarcastic, bitter and overly critical. My equally bitter friend and I went to see this movie on a whim, and ended up with it as both of our guilty pleasure. Reese Witherspoon is too cute, too blonde and too funny not to like. It's a solid feel-good movie, you can't help but laugh at some of the stupid parts and you feel proud for Elle at the end of the movie. Now I refuse to buy this movie, and I'll rarely admit that I like it, but it is a worthwhile film for all little girls and women alike to see. Especially when you're getting over a boyfriend who has a I'm-too-good-for-you-now complex going on. In fact, in that case, I would recommend sending a copy of this to him. Just for kicks though. Besides, he'll probably watch it just because he thinks Reese is hot.
Brokedown Palace (1999)
Makes you want to call your best friend
I saw this movie in the theater, and was thoroughly impressed by it. Then again, that was when Claire Danes was a good actress, not the foolish, arrogant, Hollywood-ized bitch she is today. Anyway, this film really struck me as one of the more raw, realistic, beautiful friendship films. How far would you really go for your best friend? I was moved to tears at the end, and still tear up when I watch it now (I own it). I remember as soon as I left the theater, I called my best friend and sobbed to her how much I loved her. This is a great film to watch with your best girlfriend. However be prepared for the almost certain conversation afterward where she turns to you and asks if you'd do something like that for her....
The Shining (1980)
scared the *hit out of me!
This movie did and still does, scare the *hit out of me! I watched it for the first time when I was about 11 years old, by myself, in the dark and had nightmares for weeks after. Its one of few older horror movies that doesn't need fancy effects or digital ones to make it scary. And did that little boy truly scare the hell out of anyone else?! Good lord, he's almost as bad as that kid in the Omen! It is just flat out horrifying and no one plays a psycho like Jack Nicholson. I can't imagine anyone else filling this role so effectively. If you want to scare the crap out of a small child or even an adult, rent this movie, and make them watch it in the dark on a cold winter night by themselves. And please offer them a bathroom nearby.
Spun (2002)
Unforgettably Unique
This movie is one that will leave a lasting impression on you. You won't remember everyone from the interesting ensemble cast, you won't remember just how bizarre it is, but you will remember the movie. It gives a realistic look into the world of meth and its addicts. If you liked Requiem for a Dream, you'll like this. Mickey Rourke is very interesting, Brittany Murphy and her multi-colored pooch are sad and John Leguizamo is hilarious. And did anyone notice Deborah Harry?! How random is that? This ensemble cast again, you won't remember all the stars, but you'll remember at least one. All give commendable performances.
Blade (1998)
Favorite movie of all time
I am in love with this movie! Correction, I am in love with the characters, the story line, the blood, the unrealistic-ness of it... The whole story. I don't like science fiction or comic book based films, EVER. I'm not into goth stuff, vampires or any of that. I don't know how I even got suckered into watching this for the first time... But I knew that I fell in love with the story the second I saw it for the first time.
Blade's character is so dramatic and tragic. I love this story.... I loved the movie so much, I named my first born Deacon, after non other than Deacon Frost (Stephen Dorff). So yes, I am a fan.
