Home Alone 3 (1997)
Could have been a fair bit worse but could have been a fair bit better
This movie was entertaining and funny but there were quite a few things wrong with it. The main kid character should have been blonde. He should have been called "Kevin" not "Alex" The bad guys should have been called "Harry" and "Marv" and should have looked like they did in the previous two movies - Harry or Marv having acquired a girlfriend would have been good. They could have had the parrot initially aligned with the thieves but become an ally of Alex after he became trapped and freed by Alex - that would have been nice. Better than Home alone 2 and HEAPS better than Home alone 4 but could have been better than it was.
Marley & Me (2008)
Liked the movie but the dog shouldn't have been such a horrible dog
I watched this movie with my Aunt Ruth and I liked it but I feel the dog should not have been such a horrible dog. The dog should have been full of physical problems but loveable; they should have seen his and his siblings' father walking laboriously along; his tongue hanging out of his mouth; struggling with the doggy door when he finally got to it and have John say "I think we just met Dad." and have Marley live on puppy food for most of his life. The dog should have been more of a hero than he was; he should have scared off a burglar or rescued one of the kids from drowning but it's a good movie. I will certainly be watching it again sometime in the not too distant future.
Shrek (2001)
Great movie
This is a great movie. It breaks every fairytale rule in the book and it's amusing, wicked, witty and funny. Having said that, it's just as good; maybe better for adults than children; it's not what I would call a toddlers' movie. It's sure to leave you thinking "Huh? That's not what I expected" in spots; the characters don't normally behave and react how most people would expect. My grandfather wanted to watch it and he got to before he died.
Spymate (2003)
Not outstanding but quite enjoyable
I watched this movie and while it could have been better, it could have been a LOT worse. The actors are not bad at all and the movie is quite well done; there are several rib-tickling moments and there's not a lot of gratuitous violence. It's not the greatest movie in the world but well worth watching.
100% Wolf (2020)
Nowhere near the quality of "Shrek" or "Toy story" but enjoyable
If you want a really great movie; this probably isn't the one. But if you want a nice, feel good movie; this could fit the bill. Kids will probably enjoy it and it won't drive most parents too mad. The animation isn't too great quality; it looks like it was not really professionally done; but it is quite an acceptable movie.
Home Alone: The Holiday Heist (2012)
Could have been a lot, lot, LOT worse but could have been better
I decided to try this movie; knowing I'd have only thrown about five dollars away if I didn't like it, but I found spots of it quite rib-tickling (amusing). Like with Home alone 3 and 4, they should have had the little boy hero blonde; not a brunette, he should have had more siblings and Jeff Daniels and Joe Pesci should have reprised their roles (or actors that actually looked like them) maybe Jeff Daniels finding a girlfriend (Kirstie Alley) and (in this movie) recruiting Fluffy (a Neopolitan mastiff, Rottweiler cross) (who is ordered to attack Kevin, but when Kevin says "Easy boy, nice doggy, offers the dog a cracker and cautiously pats him licks Kevin's hand and reforms; adding to the family in the end) but it's worth watching. I just like a little continuity in my films
Mr. Peabody & Sherman (2014)
Very poor; a convoluted watch-once film
This movie is very poor; it's a convoluted watch-once film. It's full of stupidity and plot holes; they forgot about the other Penny. I'll concede that it will make you laugh twice but you could spend your money and time watching much better movies.
Blinky Bill: The Movie (2015)
Watchable and cute, but very poorly done
I went to watch this movie and I found it OK, but I would never watch it again. There was nothing wrong with it, but the CGI looked like it had been done by a bunch of yobbos who needed something to fill in their time; the animals looked like they were made of cheap plasticine and the script was poor. You could watch much worse movies than this, but there are millions of better ones
How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)
Terrible; a load of absolute junk
This movie is a load of absolute junk. I'd give it zero stars if I could. Don't hire for the kids to watch until they're at least ten and even then be prepared for them to beg you to turn it off. The grinch is way too frightening for toddlers; I watched it at age 25 and had two disturbed nights afterwards. Why they made this movie is beyond me. The whirring noise I kept hearing as I watched this movie could very well have been Dr Seuss turning in his grave
Run Rebecca, Run! (1981)
Very nice, but the storyline is not really appropriate
This is a very nice movie, but the storyline is not really appropriate and what makes it not appropriate is it shows a child going with a stranger and an illegal immigrant getting away with his crimes. Yes, I know he saves her from drowning and also stops a snake from biting her and he's a nice guy, but as a parent; please be aware of what happens
Benji (1974)
One of the best "dog saves the day" movies ever
This is one of the best "dog saves the day" movies ever. It's full of charm and warmth. The tititular hero of this movie longs for a home, but the overprotective father won't let the mutt stay because he's worried about germs. Then his kids get abducted and Benji (with help of his girlfriend, Tiffany; a white dog with some Maltese in her) finally makes those dim-witted two-leggers (those humans) understand and Daddy finally makes the decision he should have made an hour ago
E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982)
Could have been a lot worse, but it could have been a fair bit better
This movie could have been a lot worse, but it could have been a fair bit better. I would have liked it a lot more if Eliott had been riding his bike and had hit the extra terrestrial creature with it and had brought it home and had then not wanted to return it to his planet, bestowing it with the name "Alf" and have the creature not want to return either and train it to sit which goes wrong and have Elliott's mother say "He HAS to go back where he came from! We don't have enough house left for three days!", and finally have everyone decide it would be better for Alf to stay with them permanently (due mostly to the creature's heroics over something)
Harry and the Hendersons (1987)
One of the BEST movies ever made
This is one of the BEST movies ever made. I would give it 9.9 if I could. It is so well made and so believable and the "Hary" outfit is so well made; the only faults this movie has is Ernie lets his dog run free and Harry does return to the forest; I feel he should have stayed with the Hendersons permanently. The creators of this film certainly should have made a sequel where the forest where Harry and his girlfriend Harriet lives is extensively damaged by fire, necessitating a return to the Henderson's house and ultimately resulting in Harry's and Harriet's permanent residence at the Hendersons
Cars 2 (2011)
I loved it, but you should wait till your kids have a few extra miles on their dials
I loved this movie, I do not agree with the critics who say "All that dazzle-dazzle cannot disguise the rusty storyline."; this movie has been undeservedly called a lemon, but, don't get me wrong, I feel parents should strongly consider waiting till their kids have a few extra miles on their dials before they watch this movie. There are scenes of violence that may scare the more sensitive kids in the world; two cars get severely beaten for spilling beer all over the pup patrons but trust me, Cars 2 is much, much, much, much better than Cars. It is A-1 entertainment for kids strong-stomached enough and it's much less likely to make their parents hit the road
The Emoji Movie (2017)
Not as good as Toy story and Wreck it Ralph, but still underrated as far as I'm concerned
Not as good as Toy story and Wreck it Ralph, but still quite underrated as far as I'm concerned. It is funny in parts, a little sad in others and touching here and there, so while even for me it does not quite rank with the movies "Toy Story" and "Wreck-it Ralph", I think you and your children should still watch it. I am quite likely to buy it on DVD when it comes out
The Little Mermaid (1989)
I love the movie, even though some might hate it because a rebellious teenager gets her own way
My mother bought the movie for me and I loved it. Ariel does persistently disobey her father, but I must say, her mother's death was at least as much her own fault as the sailor sailing the ship that killed her. Athena should NOT have swum back for that music box, but it has made King Triton hate and fear humans forever and so when he finds out that Ariel rescued a human from drowning he destroys her treasures and Ariel is (quite justifiably) heartbroken., and here we must mention one plot hole, Ariel says "You don't even know him", and they should have had Prince Eric and Ariel get to know each other Frankly, even to this day I hate King Triton, even though he does give in; his behaviour makes even that make him only the second-best Disney father, and that's being really generous
C.H.O.M.P.S. (1979)
Nowhere near as good as Benji or Lassie, but quite passable
Nowhere near as good as "Benji" or Lassie. It is the sort of movie you would probably watch once or maybe even twice and then you'd donate it to a children's' hospital. There are lots of canine hero movies that are a lot better, such as "Benji" and "Lassie" but if you are into canine hero movies, you should watch this one for a bit of variety from the standard formula. C.H.O.M.P.S does get a bit blown up, but is successfully repaired, so just steel yourselves and your children for that
Beauty and the Beast (2017)
Has both its merits and failures over the cartoon version
I have watched both the cartoon version and real life version of this film, and they both have their merits and failures over each other. The real life version makes more sense in that they mention the prince did read, thus explaining the library, but the real life version does lack some of the charm of the cartoon version. This movie was reputed to have a "gay" scene, but I couldn't detect anything gay about the movie. I feel that if you have very young children, go for the cartoon version, but for older kids, the real life version is fine.
The Hero of Color City (2014)
Deserved to do better than it did
This movie deserved to do better than it did. It is colourful, charming and touching. A must- watch for kids and kids at heart. It is great for keeping kids entertained without making parents want to join the circus. I may not recommend it to a two-year old, but it would be good for a six. With all the awful Saturday Disney around I can't see why this movie did so poorly
