Studio 666 (2022)
Actually worse then I imagined
So I actually went in with pretty low expectations but thought that it could still be a bit of gory fun judging from the trailer, then I saw the run time and got worried...
There's no excuse why this movie needed to be 100+ minutes long, it could had worked if they made it into a 30 min short film because you could still do the same story and the pacing would had made it so much better.
What I think is really odd is that they decided to make a movie with Foo Fighters but didn't take the opportunity to let their music be what tied the movie together, they could ha recorded several songs and used them in the movie, not just some jam that they added bits to.
I like Dave and the Foo's well enough but if I were really into them then I'd be disappointed with the lack of Foo music, they could easily had written all the music for the movie and made it a Foo Fighters movie soundtrack.
Pretty much everything about the movie is awful but I have to give some props for the practical effects on the kills, it looked good and there were some work behind it.
I don't know what people found funny in this movie because I didn't laugh once, was it goofy? Yes, is that enough? Maybe for some people.
If you are a hardcore Foo Fighters fan then maybe you get some enjoyment from this as content but if you expect it to be a real movie you'd be disappointed.
Seeing Kerry King and Carpenter was fun though.
No Man of God (2021)
Superficial but Intriguing
Ted Bundy is probably known by most people if they have any interest in true crime/serial killers and most likely have watched or read documentaries, so don't expect to learn anything different from this movie that you most likely didn't know from before since it never really dig into the crimes per se but is more about the interaction between Ted and Bill. It's a good movie and Luke Kirby does an excellent job portraying Ted Bundy, it keeps you invested and you'll want to keep watching to see what Ted has to say. Even if in the end you never learn much about the psyche about a serial killers mind other then "Because you wanted to". There's a somewhat strange sequence in the movie where Ted takes Bill on a journey of one of his killings but it's way too artificial dramatized with quick cuts between Ted and Bill without really saying much other then that Ted enjoyed doing what he did. I would say that what really makes the movie is Luke Kirby's portrayal since he makes you feel like it's Ted Bundy present. I would say it's like a longer episode of Mind Hunter and keeps the same quality. It's just quality film making and worth your time to watch if you have any interest in this subject, just don't expect to learn something extraordinary. Which is a shame since it seems like Ted opened up to Bill in real life and you would expect that Bill would had learned something more and that this movie would have used that information that might not have been that publicly known. I would had liked a bit more of a clinical analyzes of the mind of Ted Bundy then this movie could offer even if the portrayal of Luke was pretty telling what kind of a person Ted was, a weak egotistical psychopath who probably didn't feel remorse a second in his life for what he did. Well worth a watch.
Roundhay Garden Scene (1888)
Released in 1888 heavily edited
Released in 1888 heavily edited. Originally 5 seconds long and included lot's of gore and explicit sex, but due to the threat of an X-rating from the British Board of Film Censors (BBFC), the director cut it down to 2 seconds so it could be released as PG-13.
Because it premiered around the same time as "Traffic Crossing Leeds Bridge" which was the blockbuster of the year it did poorly at the box offices and the movie quickly went to 4K3D Blu-ray.
Only in recent years have it started to get the attention it deserves.
Due to Louis Aimé Augustin Le Prince directing both movies he still got the money back for "Roundhay Garden Scene" but got so disarrayed because his original vision wasn't being shown to the public.
He made a couple of independent movies called "Man Walking Around the Corner" and "Accordion Player" before he retired and leaved all the fame and Hollywood promises behind.
The uncut version is still missing.
ER: Time of Death (2004)
One of the best TV-episodes ever made
So I don't really watch ER but luck would have it that I started to watch this episode, I don't know why but probably because Ray was in it.
It left me speechless, I was in a trans the entire episode, it was so strong and like nothing you've ever seen before, TV have never felt so real to me and it made an impact, I rarely get teary eyed but this really got to me.
The script is one of the best ever written for anything and Ray goes beyond acting, this episode should be the 101 on acting for classes.
Probably one if not the best episode ever aired on TV, not just for ER but for TV as a whole.
Dylan Dog: Dead of Night (2010)
Cliché
This movie isn't that good, I actually skipped most of the ending and I almost never skip in a movie but I just didn't care what was going to happened because I already knew.
I don't know why I even watched more then an hour because this movie is so cliché and all the actors are terrible.
I can't really blame all the actors because the script is awful and I don't know if anyone could've pulled it off, even Peter Stormare couldn't do it.
The comic relief is the sidekick and he isn't funny at all, but he sure is trying with every cliché there is.
Every line in this movie is a cliché of old detective movies.
I could actually almost predict all the dialog.
I don't know anything about the comic.
Also, the werewolf in the slaughters house actually made me chuckle because it was so cheap and reminded me of a bad version of Michael Jacksons Thriller video.
Other than that the effects were mediocre.
No I wouldn't waste my time on this movie if I was you.
Martyrs (2008)
if Irréversible were a horror movie...
If anyone would ask me what the most disturbing movie I've ever seen is I'd have to say "Martyrs".
I'm reluctant to use the word "scary" since "scary" seems kinda juvenile compared on the impact this movie had on me.
I couldn't get a good night sleep for days after viewing it. I know that a friend of mine actually cried during the movie and another friend couldn't take it so he fast forward it.
The movie closest to this is Irréversible but about 10x worse.
I'll never watch this or Irréversible twice.
If there ever should be an 18+ discretion then Martyrs and Irréversible deserve it.
