Destination Wedding (2018)
So wordy but so clever.
I laughed from the beginning till the end of this. Excellent and unique film. I'm pleasantly reminded by When Harry met Sally.
Robin Hood (2018)
I'm not entirely sure what everyone else expected...
The trailer showed an action-packed depiction of a Robin Hood story. I walked into the theatre expecting no more. Just hoping for a nice action packed film in some alternate-universe-like Nottingham and Robin Hood as was suggested by interviews and the trailers.
Is it medieval England as we know it on film? Of course not! This movie poster and trailer never claimed to be that. And to enjoy this film one must really just let go of the Robin Hood stories we know and love for awhile and be ready for something new.
Is it going to be anything like the past Kevin Costner/Russell Crowe/Disney/Men in tights versions? Not really, nothing in the press material certainly suggested it.
Is it nonsensical at some parts? Of course! It's about this dude in a hood robbing the rich in an action film. I feel the film stretched logic to just the right amount, and not so bad that it was too nonsensical to be enjoyable.
In short I'm quite surprised at the negative reviews as I felt it was fine. I walked in not expecting "Gladiator" or LOTR material (legends, obviously), just merely to have a good time to sit back, shut my mind from outside, to watch some mad archery skills and action sequences - and I say it delivered what was on the cover, no more no less.
Gossip Girl (2007)
View for fun
From what the readers of the book say, "Gossip Girl" the TV show is quite different compared to the original book.I have not read the book, therefore I have nothing to compare it against except the screenplay set for the show.
Judging by the name and the cast, the show's audience is mostly set for teenagers and people with an eye for fashion. It also contains a few elements worth learning about like making big decisions and knowing which friends are real and which are not.
The show pulls this off nicely as a non-addictive series that is just to watch at leisure and for fun. Most comments seem take this series and to compare it with serious shows(with a more experienced cast compared to this one), which is unnecessary since the genre is most obviously one targeted for people who just want to see the lifestyles of rich teenagers and how their lives are driven by image, image, and image.
All in all, a nice watch. With a right mindset, and a great observing mind for 'dolling up' ideas, one could enjoy this show as some good fun, and maybe learn a thing or two from the characters many challenges.
