Mulholland Dr. (2001)
When you need critics to decipher a movie, it's NOT a good movie!
This is the worse movie I have ever seen - it makes no sense whatsoever, even after reading the explanations supplied by critics online (critics who were just as clueless as I was - they couldn't explain what the box and the key meant, either). Way too long - I can't believe I wasted 3 hours of my life on this meaningless film. Here I thought if I just stuck it out, at the end all would be revealed. But nothing was - a total disappointment.
Clerks (1994)
Great script, but barebones with terrible acting
Just one question - why do all the actors in this film say their lines too quickly and with no emotion? Maybe they're trying to look cool and just not succeeding. Maybe the script was too long and they're trying to fit it into a neat, 1.5 hour time slot.
The Shining (1980)
The worst horror film I have ever seen!
This movie does no justice whatsoever to the novel written by Stephen King. The acting, by all three of the main characters (Jack Nicholson, Shelley Duvall and Danny Lloyd) is sickening. I mean, Wendy is supposed to be good-looking, and they cast Shelley Duvall?!?! And Jack is supposed to be a nice guy - a good father and husband - at the beginning of the story, which makes for greater contrast when he goes ballistic at the end. But Nicholson looks and acts psycho from the get-go, making it is no surprise when he actually does go crazy. Considering King's novels are usually terrible (come on, a car that kills people named Christine?) "The Shining" was a haunting account of the hotel effects on the gradual demise of Jack's psyche. And what's with Tony morphing into this friend that "lives in Doc's mouth"? I suggest reading the actual book, or watching the 1997 mini series with Steven Weber and Rebecca De Mornay, which is true to the book and a much better movie. Because this version of The Shining is pure crap.
Golden Boy: Sasurai no o-benkyô yarô (1995)
This is one of the funniest anime series ever!
I am a woman, and I found Golden boy to be absolutely hilarious. I guess I could be offended by the fact that most of the female characters are portrayed as scantily-clad sex objects, but men could be just as offended by the main male character, Kintaro, who makes all men seem like sex-crazy dorks. Just don't take the show too seriously. It does have a lot of animated nudity and dirty sex jokes, so don't watch it if that type of thing offends you. Also, I suggest watching it in the english dub rather than subtitled, because the english voice of Kintaro is much funnier than the japanese voice.
