Johnny Cash: The Redemption of an American Icon (2022)
The tunnel
This movie was really good. It's about Johnny Cash's entire life and how everything affected him. It shows how near the end of his life he accepted God and became redeemed. This movie has eye witnesses from all crawls of his life including his son, sister, and others that knew him. I really liked the fact that they got all of these people together to help tell the complete story of Cash with the help of archived footage. I also really liked the talk of him in the cave with God talking to him and telling him to keep crawling which is a really good allegory for his life and how he could become right with God and be redeemed.
Big Fish (2003)
Good fish
I really liked this movie. It felt like it was an actual group of stories that a dad would tell his kid and I liked how they all ended up being real. My favorite part was when the dad was in the circus working for information on the girl. Some parts I didn't really like were the weirdness of it all. The movie is about a man's son who is tired of his dad telling fake stories about his life. We go through the dad's life as he tells his stories about what he witnessed. He goes from "saving" his small town from a giant, to traveling into a dream-like area where he is incited to stay, and working at a circus for information on his future wife.
Cinderella Man (2005)
She Cinderella on my man till I box
This movie is amazing. It was very interesting from the start and told a great story based on real events. The movie is about James J Braddock, a former boxer, who after a broken hand can not box anymore. Years later after his broken hand he has fallen on hard times with a wife and 2 kids. Soon one of his old friends came to him asking him to box again. He accepts and eventually after a string of matches he goes against Max Baer who is younger and bigger than James. James, through pure determination, wins after a lengthy fight against Baer. I think this movie was great at captivating audiences and rightfully so, because I was on the edge of my seat with every fight.
Ray (2004)
Bay Billiam Barles
This movie was pretty good. I think that it was a lot better than the other two movies we watched. When I started this movie I didn't think it would be that good but when I saw it some more and i thought it was good some more. I liked the parts where it showed how his mom taught him how to deal with his blindness. I also liked the part where it showed him being in rehabilitation and being able to play the doctors in chess even though he was blind. There weren't any parts that I hated but I didn't really like the scenes where it kept flashing from the old for a split second to the new with the red flashes.
Walk the Line (2005)
Walk the pickle brine
This movie was interesting. It is a movie about Johnny Cash and his life before and after fame. It didn't go into as much detail about his fame but more his life and the difficulties he went through. It goes into his marriage problems, his drug addiction, his new marriage, and his family issues. The parts I didn't really like about it was its generic "follow my lead" trope most of these movies about singers do. And I didn't really know how to feel about the creators making his wife seem like a bad guy. But overall I really liked seeing the behind the scenes of Johnny Cash and how he became the man he was before and after he was famous.
Elvis (2022)
Elvis the pelvis
Elvis is as you may guess is about the king of rock and roll himself. This movie goes into detail about Elvis' business life, personal life, and his past. It also goes into detail about Colonel Tom Parker who was Elvis' manager and wanted him to put on as many shows as possible and rake in as much money as he could. The movie seems like an accurate description of Elvis' life from his childhood to his death but I could never know since I wasn't there. I really liked all of the facts and historical details that they put in such as JFK's, and MLK's assassination along with the Sharon Tate murder. Some stuff I didn't really like about it was the mix of hip-hop music mixed in with the old time feel.
Saving Private Ryan (1998)
private Ryan has been saved
The movie was about a group of specialists searching for an army man named Ryan. When they find Ryan they don't find anything special about him at first but upon hanging out with him they begin to like him. In the end they end up saving private Ryan. I really liked this movie and the reality of it. I liked the part when the German soldier was naming American things trying to avoid getting shot. I also liked the part when they were all talking before the tanks came in. I really liked the banter between all of the soldiers due to how real it felt. It felt just like a conversation that I would have with my friends in war.
Darkest Hour (2017)
The darkest hour was the hour he spent on the toilet
When I watched this film I started to like it and I liked it throughout the entire film. I love the realism of Churchill and showing his true side. When Churchill said "You can't reason with a lion when your head is inside its mouth!" I thought it was a very intriguing quote. I thought it was also funny when it showed all of the jokes he made and how he did the two fingers up to the reporters. I also thought that it was very informative on how Churchill reacted to WW2 and the type of decisions he made throughout the war. Overall I think that they made a good casting decision and I like how the actor shows the silly and scary side of Churchill.
Unbroken (2014)
She un on my broken till i 2014
This movie was pretty enjoyable and felt kind of accurate for the life of a soldier during WW2. The movie is about 3 soldiers surviving after a plane crash after being shot down during a fly. We follow the main character Russel Allen Phillips throughout his life being a professional Olympic runner and how he survives after being in a plane crash into the ocean. He eventually is captured by the Japanese and is tortured. It then shows his journey trying to survive in the Japanese camp. My favorite part was when he was holding up the beam for hours on end. When he got back I liked when he was reunited with his family.
Dunkirk (2017)
Not my cup o' wa'a
Honestly i didn't really like the movie, It's about the real life Dunkirk situation where German.citizens have trapped Allied troops onto the beach of Dunkirk. The story is split into 3 different stories. 1 is in the air, 1 is in the ocean, and 1 is on land. The main characters to me aren't that interesting and don't have depth. To be honest I missed a majority of the movie so i don't know if the beginning of it had more context as to who these people are. I really did like the part though where the people on the ship save the soldiers from the sinking ship and oil fire. I was very surprised when that one character died after falling down from the fall.
12 Mighty Orphans (2021)
ricky doodah
As a 12 this mighty spoke to me. I thought the movie was kind of good but could have had better scenes in some parts. I did like the scenes in the courthouse and the ending where they actually played the game. When they kept doing the talking scenes back to back it started getting boring. The story is about Rusty getting a job at an orphanage where he wants to get orphans into sports like football. Rusty starts busting down on corrupt acts against orphans such as making them work long hours for no pay and government officials working against them in law. When the movie ended with them winning the football game i actually was invested but i felt like it should have been longer.
The Grapes of Wrath (1940)
GRAPES
I don't like this movie that much. It was quite boring and I couldn't clearly follow the story. When we were watching it I kept falling asleep. I actually did like it when the lady got hit in the gut with a bullet and started her redemption arc on getting her vengeance on the cop by suing the entire police system and efficiently making a new police system. At the end of the movie I did think that the ending was pretty sad where he had to leave his family again. I was actually pretty interested in how the characters interacted and how happy they were with each others company. The ending was bittersweet with him running away but the family being happy still.
O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000)
tresure
In this movie 3 ragtag fellas go on the run from the police after they escape from prison meeting many wacky characters along the way to find some treasure. This movie is based on Homer's The Odyssey in which characters from it are taken and portrayed as more lifelike counterparts. This movie had me liking it from the start due to the charming characters, funny jokes, and other wacky shenanigans. I liked the dynamics between the group and how Everett kept Delmer, and Tinkle in check. I loved seeing how all the characters from the odyssey were converted into real life scenarios such as the cyclops (man with one eye) and the sirens ( random singing ladies). I was interested in how they would find the treasure and what other types of things they would go through until they found the treasure.
The Sound of Music (1965)
The sound of amazing
The Sound of Music was a film that I enjoyed almost the whole way through. I really liked the musical aspect of it and how well the songs were put together. I also was invested in the suspense between the Nazis and Georg. I also liked seeing the bond between the kids and Maria grow as they went from not liking her to loving her. The way that the story connects is really smooth going from Georg's "friend" wanting him to throw a party to then tell him that the Nazis are planning to invade. It was very weird seeing it go from them singing and having a good time to the Nazis invading though but i guess that is how reality is.
It's a Wonderful Life (1946)
The searching for Lincoln in 1917 dancing with argo having a wonderful life in thirteen days under the bridge of spies (guys) flying with the red tails during hacksaw ridge
At first I thought that the movie was going to be boring but when it started getting to the part showing what the world would be like if he didn't exist it started to get more interesting. The things I didn't like were the boring talking scenes and the fact that the other timeline didn't last so long. When it did finally get to the part I was very interested and I liked it when it showed it and the other timeline. I thought the aspect of "every time you hear a bell ring an angel gets its wings" was kind of corny but it was pretty nice. I liked the reuniting of the family and all of the town gathering together in the end to help raise money.
A Christmas Carol (2009)
pepe silvia
I actually kind of liked this film. After going to the play for around 3 Christmases in a row I thought that this was a kind of faithful retelling. I liked how it showed what. My favorite part was the end was when the scrooge jumped on the buggy and started sliding. Jim Carrey as scrooge was not that good due to him being so energetic but when scrooge redeemed himself his voice kind of fit. But then again the movie was very scary and it almost made me pee myself. I was actually going to cry during multiple scenes. This movie was very scary and I hated it Because it had frightening imagery and had Jim Carrey.
Thirteen Days (2000)
13 bridge of days
To be honest this movie wasn't that good. Basically all it was was people in the white house arguing. If it was better it would add some variety, they would have made the movie 13 days long. I think Kevin Costner was a good choice for the main character. The movie was really boring causing me to fall asleep during it (sorry Ms. Allen). I did like seeing the conflict between the two ships and seeing how close we were to WW3. While the conversations were boring I did like the acting that was done between the people. I also really liked how the person who played Kennedy expressed his angry side since most people only know his good side.
Bridge of Spies (2015)
Bridge of guys more like eyes
I didn't really like the bridge of spies that good to be honest. It seemed like an action movie that didn't have any action just a constant build up with barely any pay off. "Rylan believes this movie was very mid on the scale of 10" - Dylan Dyson. I did like watching the story of Donovan visit Berlin and trade with the Russians and see Abel's family. I also think that Tom Hanks did a good job playing James Donovan showing how an actual good lawyer may have reacted to the situation going on. I also really liked the way they depicted Berlin and how people were reacting to the Berlin wall trying to get to the other side. Overall I think that the movie was kind of not good compared to other history movies.
Hacksaw Ridge (2016)
Hacksaw Ridge more like haha
Hacksaw ridge was one of my favorite movies I've seen in our class that i haven't seen already. The use of Andrew Garfield as Desmond Doss was a really good decision. My favorite part of the movie was when Doss' dad came and got him out of the trial. The comedy aspect of the movie was good too and every joke gave me a laugh. The story of Desmond Doss was really good and made me feel happy Doss decided to never pick up a gun. At the end of the movie i liked the way that it showed Doss in real life and all of his friends. Overall it was a really good movie that had me like learning more about wars.
Red Tails (2012)
Method man and Walter White
Red tails was a film I enjoyed that taught me a lot about these people. When I started it I was hesitant at first but as I got into it more I really started to enjoy it. It starts with a group of Tuskegee airmen training to fly in battle. Later in the movie it goes to an airbase in Italy that the pilots eventually start using as their base for flight. Later in the movie 2 characters die off that we see which made me really sad that people actually went through that during that time. My favorite part of the movie was when one of the characters are caught by Nazis and put in a camp but they soon escape with the help of white inmates that don't discriminate against him at all. I was sad about the part where one of the characters were saying they didn't want to die as they were about to crash their plane but they ended up living which made me happier. Overall i enjoyed the movie pretty good and think that other people should watch it even if it's kind of corny.
1917 (2019)
1917 more like 1984
1917 has to be one of my favorite historical films. I love the way that it historically shows the hardships soldiers had to go through during WW1. The first time I saw it I was so surprised by the death of Blake. This is one of the first historical movies I've seen that have actually gotten me wrapped up in the story. My favorite part was when Schofield found the French woman in the basement with the baby. Seeing some relaxation during the chaos was satisfying to witness. I also liked the part where he had to run through the battalion of people to get to Colonel Mackenzie about the trap. I liked the way the movie ended with Schofield under the tree after telling Blake's brother about his death.
Free State of Jones (2016)
FREE STATE OF JOOONES
I really liked the free state of Jones. It gave me a far worse view of the south during the civil war than what was already there. I really liked learning about Newton Knight and all the hardships he had to go through to rebel against the ones rebelling so he could push his cause of anti slavery. One thing i liked the most about the movies though were the time jumps having it jump from around the 1860's to later in the mid 1900's. I was really sad over all the deaths in the movie and everyone else was sad along with me. Overall I liked the movie and hope to find more like it that catches my attention.
Lincoln (2012)
Lincoln isn't stinkin
My thoughts of Lincoln at first were that it was boring but when I got deeper into the movie I found out more interesting things about our 16th president. Things such as i never knew Lincoln had children and one of them had died causing them to be protective of their other kid. I also liked learning all of the stuff going into the freeing of slaves and giving slaves rights. Before the movie i had never really thought of other people like Thaddeus Stevens that helped push rights for slaves but now i know him for what he did. The way that they portrayed Lincoln with feelings like sadness, happiness, and anger showed him as more of a human instead of how he's constantly portrayed as perfect really made me find him more relatable.
The Searchers (1956)
Pretty cool
The Searchers was a great movie that I enjoyed because of the action and the view into depictions of old stereotypes both good and bad. I thought it was a good movie just to witness, and had fun watching it. I missed some of it but all of it i saw was good to watch and interesting.
